About the Artist
Rahul Sakyaputra (1947-2002), born in Puna, India, spent many years studying with the great musician and teacher Allaudin Khan. He lived for many years in Los Angeles recording music for TV and Film and performing concerts with Patrick Morris, Zakir Hussain, Patrick Moraze and Ron Wagner (of which these recordings are derived) for the likes of Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn and others. Ron Wagner, having obtained a degree from the Eastman School of Music, made a career recording TV and Film (Salaan Bombay, Star Trek Voyager etc.) and performing both western and eastern music (with Ottmar Liebert, L. Subramaniam, Strunz & Farah, Steve Kujala, Peter Sprague etc.) He learned tabla for fourteen years from Pandit Taranath Rao.

Product Description
The shimmering exotic sound of East Indian Music has had a spellbinding effect on sizable segments of the Western listening public since the Beatles introduced Ravi Shankar to the pop culture in the sixties. The Sitar, an Indian stringed lute type instrument, has movable frets and twenty-two strings stretched over two gourds to produce the sound that many musicians including George Harrison found so facinating. The accompaning hand drums called Tabla are extremely tonal with fourteen different sounds that can be produced from the goat skin covered bowls. From stately to lightning fast, the exciting, inspired yet mathmatically precise execution inspires the performance and leads it to a facinating conclusion. Experience the music whose influence has been heard in both jazz and rock more than any other form of indigenous music!
