Heavenly music - amazing authentic Renaissance recipes!.......2005-06-08

This is an absolutely superb CD in every respect. The excellent selection of songs encompasses some of the finest composers of the Late Middle Ages-Renaissance including earlier masters such as Machaut, Binchois, Dufay as well as some exceptional composers of the Prima Prattica such as Isaac and his pupil Senfl. Compositions from France, England, Spain/Portugal, Germany, Italy and Burgandy are all represented too. The Isaac chanson 'Donna di dentro' may well be my favorite of this whole CD.

Equally exciting is the fantastic recipe book that comes with the lavish booklet. I have many a cook book and I can tell you this is as good as any of them and an absolute must if you are a Renaissance music enthusiast. Just as many a great score has laid in museums gathering dust for centuries, so too have many cook books been forgotten and their recipes lost to time. The efforts of many reknown contemporary chefs have been employed to resurrect some of these gems. The food tastes like nothing I have ever tried before - like listening to Renaissance music for the first time. If feels like you have stuck your spoon and knife (forks were a later invention and no self-respecting HIP music lover would eat this food with one!) into a Renaissance still life picture of a lavish meal and started eating.

One suggestion: definitely try the 'orange omelette for pimps and harlots'. Only thing routinely use one whole orange (peeled and put through a blender) AND a couple of tablespoons of a light non-bitter orange marmalade. Skip the extra added sugar and instead add some Cointreau to the mixture. Then serve hot with ice cream as a desert (desert omelettes are a sadly lost art), unless you feel that you HAVE to keep these strictly HIP because they didn't have ice cream in those days - make sure your favourite song from this CD is playing. You will think you have died and gone to heaven.

Hearing the spirit of the Renaissance is one thing but to also see it, taste it, smell it - now that's something else!!! I strongly suggest buying now as these sort of releases then to dissappear and if it does reappear the wonderful CD booklet with its recipes will likely be missing.

An irresistible combination of great food and music........2001-12-04

Food, Wine and Song is an irresistible combination of great food and music. I've even tried one of the recipes - the bread, almond and saffron pudding with a fig crust. It was delicious and preparing it while the CD played was inspiring. It was a perfect way to start this winter cooking season. The packaging is elegant!

If you like good Brazilian music, buy this CD. Ivan is a strong singer and a gifted composer. He has applied sophisticated jazz-fusion harmonies to Brazilian rhythms, creating memorable songs.

Una joya musical.......2005-10-15

En este disco, Fito ha alcanzado el punto mas alto de su madurez musical. La canción mas impresionante del disco es "La casa desaparecida" la cual se puede interpretar como una historia intima de Argentina recogida en una canción. "Al lado del camino" transmite fuerza y sentimiento; "la despedida" es la cancion perfecta de despecho, fito solo a voz y piano. "es solo una cuestion...","Buena estrella" y "Ahi voy" reflejan el fito rockero que todos conocemos. "Habana" es pura nostalgia con un arreglo finisimo. Creo que al maestro Paez le va a dar mucho trabajo superar este disco.

El disco tiene muchas canciones de una letra que demuestra lo fastidioso que le resulta el mundo a Fito. La casa desaparecida es simplemente un poema declamado que encuentro, aunque largo, muy personal y describe muy bien la situacion en su Pais natal Argentina. Me gusto mucho Torre de cristal y ahi voy, a demas de los exitos, Es solo una cuestion de actitud y al lado del camino. El disco es un simbolo de que Fito todavia puede producir y su inspiracion no esta muerta como muchos creyeron. (Me parece que lo demostro muy bien con Naturaleza Sangre aunnque Rey sol no fue una produccion buena)

I'm no great music critic, I just know what I like.. and Fito is my favorite, in any language.. he's a genius! "La casa desaparecida" is what some would call "long" but it's beautiful and clearly heartfelt..I've never even been to Argentina and I was moved by it. I'm partial to "Desierto" as well myself. Wonderful, just like almost everything else he's ever done.. or ever will do.

Antes que nada, tengo que decir que soy un Fan de Fito... Tiene unos álbumes que simplemente son una maestría de la música, como por ejemplo "Giros", entre otros. Pero este álbum es simplemente una PORQUERIA. Mi sugerencia es que compren los álbumes viejos, pero este... no pierdas tu dinero.

Breathtaking, brilliant music of incredible power!.......2005-01-21

Though by no means a classical expert, I am very familiar with the great orchestral works and, in terms of complexity, power, beauty, and scope, I would have to say "Rhapsody" appears to be the most inspired piece I have ever heard.
This recording is the ideal performance of Krouse's masterpiece for Orchestra, "Rhapsody", undoubtedly the main focus of my review, in that the orchestration and conducting are superb and very attentive to detail while the violin solos are, at the hands of the brilliant Maria Bachmann, imbued, in every note, with the heart-wrenching humanity that is so central to this work.
Opening with an epic introduction, "Rhapsody" continues through a quiet violin lament that grows more and more violently beautiful as it approaches the orchestra's re-entrance that can only be related as one of those rare, musical moments that one finds among all the great works and never forgets.
The other three pieces on the disc, "Tientos", "Cuando se abre en la manana", and "Thamar y Amnon", are more reminiscent of Krouse's background in classical guitar but, though clever and certainly demonstrative of the composer's tradition of flamenco style, they do not approach the impact of "Rhapsody".
In conclusion, music lovers everywhere deserve to hear this rare and remarkable, yet strangely unsung, orchestral masterpiece.
