Album Description
Born of Tibetan nomads, Nawang Khechog discovered in childhood a deep affinity with the bamboo flute. In 1959, he fled to India and spent 11 years as a Buddhist monk before bringing his music to the West. Despite worldwide praise for his work, Nawang resolved in 1991 to return to mountain seclusion - until the Dalai Lama himself encouraged him to continue to share the power of his music with others. Quiet Mind reflects the far-reaching travels of this remarkable musician. It is his most personal transmission, a continuous prayer that imparts serenity to everyone it touches. With didgeridoo, Incan pan pipes, and ocarina.

Very Relaxing.......2006-03-14
A very peaceful and relaxing CD. Just listen to the samples for yourself.
Love flute music.......2006-02-01
I got this because I love the sound of flute music and the peace within it gives me. I use the cd to calm myself and to daydream or meditate.
Absolutely Beautiful.......2004-09-22
How you could NOT like this CD is beyond me. The feelings it invokes are indescribable. It touches your soul the instant you hear it. I've gotten 3 of his CD's so far, and plan on buying the rest. The word "Amazing" doesn't do this man's talent justice. He's a gift from heaven. Everyone should hear it at least once. That's all you'd need. Absolutely incredible....
Wonderful CD.......2003-02-26
I am a huge fan of Nawang-la, this CD is spectacular.
Exhilirating peacefulness.......2000-02-13
This is my favorite Nawang cd. Tibetan flute and Australian didgeridoo. Nawang was a Tibetan monk who eventually fled to Australia to evade the Chinese annexation. Though renouncing monkhood he is still very much involved in his spirituality and this shows in his music. I have never heard a single instrument played to such effect. Peace is the main theme of all his work but this is not passivity, this is not the sleep of unconsciousness. This is a dynamic peace, one which engages all the varieties of life yet never gets bogged down by them. There is power here, power of the wisdom of Earth and the compassion of Buddha. The music brings the spirit of the listener to the portals of Shambhala, to the heart of Tibet, and to the center of the adamantine throne on which sits the Buddha. Of course we are all really Buddha deep inside, so when we come to the center of the throne we come to the center of ourselves. Listen to this disk and you will hear what I mean. One reviewer mentioned that it is only good for sleep. I do like to listen to peaceful music when I go to sleep, but I can never do that with Nawang. The music floats, to borrow a phrase from Hildegard von Bingen, like a feather on the breath of oneness. What could be more exciting than that? But to each his own. We hear as we are able, and should one hear what another does not is that to mean one is wrong and the other right? No. Each is in his own place, and each hears what is right for him. For me, you cannot get much more right than Nawang Khechog.

Customer Reviews:
Gently uplifting compositions by a sweet-voiced singer/songwriter.......2006-10-01
Weaving elements of folk, Celtic and world music into a rich, comforting tapestry of sound, vocalist and keyboardist Lydia McCauley offers an intimate musical journey through life, love and spirituality. Her voice is lovely - pure, honest and flushed with the soft warmth of a mother's lullaby--and her soothing vocals are featured in all but one of the songs on this album. There's a warm wistfulness and sense of down-to-earth, motherly love about McCauley's lushly arranged music that is very appealing--great to relax to at the end of a hard day and to remind one of the important things in life. This debut album, with it's varied harmonies and mix of musical influences, is my favorite of her releases. Standout tracks on "Sabbath Day's Journey" include the moving and beautifully mournful "Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair," the jaunty "Asissi," the Celtic-like "Buon Giorno, Buena Gente" with its changing tempos, and the contemplative "Brimstone," a song about the natural cycles of life, creativity and hope. In addition to accompanying herself expertly on piano and synthesizer, McCauley fleshes out the sound of her songs with the help of a sizeable number of acoustic instrumentalists: Phil Heaven on bowed strings and doumbek, David J. MacVittie on bouzouki, guitar, sitar and doumbek, Frank Olsen on bass and bass guitar, Larry Knechtel on piano, Paul Englesbert on concertina and penny whistle, Frank Jackson on recorders, Jud Sherwood on drums, and co-producer Kurt Scherer on bells and (?) Garden Weasel. (I'm sure there's a story behind that, but it doesn't appear in the liner notes!). Lydia McCauley's next release is the hypnotic "Entrances," followed by "The Beauty of the Earth." If you enjoy her gentle, sonorous compositions, you will also like the work of harpist Lisa Lynne, harpist Thomas Loefke, singer Susan McKeown, guitarist Richard Searles, and the acoustic Celtic groups Orion and Orison.
Lydia's Music is Evocative.......1999-11-27
Sabbath Day's Journey is indeed a journey. One of spirit and grace and feeling, which are reflections of Lydia herself and her band. The first selection, Mother's Heart is a touching, lyrical piece. Her Celtic and Appalachian roots blend beautifully to produce the music of her soul and the ability to express feeling. Black is the Color is a haunting piece. Lydia's music displays the spectrum of spiritual to playful. It gets regular airplay on KSER. I have given this CD as gifts and will do so again. Lydia's music is reminiscent of Loreen McKennitt's. It is music to be enjoyed over and over. The many layers of its sound and meaning come through more with each listen!
Fresh breeze outside, warm fire in........1999-10-24
First, check out the eclectic folk instrumentation: not just viola, guitar and sitar, but also the doumbek, bouzouki and the Garden Weasel (it makes a nice percussive sound not found elsewhere). Then, listen to the clear vocals of Lydia McCauley. Lydia and her band sweep in with a debut album from Brimstone Music that deserves to be heard. Lydia has written or adapted songs that call from the heart to the heart, like a fresh breeze outside, warm fire in. Drawing from her Appalachian background, she sings an achingly lovely, simple rendition of the folk song "Black is the Color." Her own songs of the Pacific Northwest, such as "Grace Day," call out for deeper intimacy: "Forgiveness is a healing of a wound between us both." Drawing inspiration from spiritual soulmates Francis of Assisi and Julian of Norwich, she creates songs around ancient words, such as these from Julian: "All shall be well, all shall be well and all manner of things shall be well." Around that one sentence she and the band have made a swirling temple of song to end the album. The music is similar to that of Loreena McKennitt, but Lydia has more in her collection than Loreena's signature Celtic harp and high notes. Lydia's music stretches the concepts of journeys. Her journeys in this album dance between spiritual and secular lyrics, European and American music, and the inward and outward self. An excellent first CD, Sabbath Day's Journey is finding its way to an audience of thoughtful music lovers around the country.

fusion fire.......2002-10-03
after norman connors hit big with "starship", he followed up with this lp. while not as massive as its predecessor, it did have its pleasures. prince philip mitchell's "once i've been there" and "destination moon" were fm staples. the title cut and "thembi" were also highlights. but the "must hear" was "for you everything" the duet with mitchell and eleanor mills, who reportedly was stephanie's sister in law at the time. that cut had some serious "marvin and tammi" chemistry hapn'n. you can practically feel the heat between these two before it's all over.
mills also shines on the stylistics' remake of "you are everything". as far as i know she didn't do anything else after this project, but check it out if you like old school rnb.

Escapade - 'Due To A Faulty Premonition' (Mother West).......2004-01-20
This is the band's fifth release and '...Premonition' does a great job of fusing krautrock with ambient experimentation. My guess would be that the band members had listened to a fair share of Neu!,Faust and Amon Dull II prior to forming Escapade."Soundtrap" is a winner, starting off acoustic and later builds up as it gets better."When A Squall Line Beckons" is fun to check out and all,but it has an indescribable sound to it as "I See Things" is an eleven-minute epic that makes one feel like they're able to float around in a giant colorful room with hundreds of marshmallows all around them."Singe" is a jazzy freakout track that employs some rather heavy bass."Undoubtedly" is probably the disc's best cut as it's an awesomely beautiful twelve-minute trip through pure sonic mayhem."Postscript A Flickering" is another beautiful gem that brings this trek to a close as it seems that the band's instruments are bidding you,the listener a good night.Nice CD to own.
Excellent psych rock soundscapes.......2001-01-02
Listening to this cd is like taking a journey through new lands of sound. It's strange, but not TOO strange. Overall, Escapade concentrates on texture & atmosphere instead of melody, although it's obvious these guys CAN play their instruments! There's lots of cool synth, varied guitar textures, strong drumming and a certain vibe that's hard to describe.
The opener 'Sound Trap' begins softly with acoustic guitar and builds into a throbbing pulsating entity that's minimal in melody but not minimal in texture. 'When A Squall Line Beckons' is the sound of the world almost coming to an end, with powerful swirling waves of sound surrounding an insistent drum beat. 'I See Things' is experimental ambient, and 'Singe' is a weird manic piece of music with an off-kilter rhythm and what sounds like breaking glass piercing through the rising tension. 'Undoubtedly' has a kinda jazz-rock - but not really fusion - jam that has two contrasting guitars: a jazzy electric guitar fighting it out against a squealing acid guitar that spews out solid sheets of noise and controlled feedback. All this settles into the second part which builds up into a hypnotic section with furious tribal drumming being a focal point along with percussive guitar. The last piece, 'Postscript: A Flickering' reminds me of Fripp & Eno, but with darker overtones. Perfect closing track to drift away with.
I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys Krautrock bands like Can, Ash Ra Tempel or Faust, and also to fans of adventurous psychedelic music & space-rock. A future classic, I dare say!

Customer Reviews:
Very moving, soulful, uplifting.......2006-02-13
Melba Moore's Solitary Journey from 1998 was very moving, soulful and uplifting. I liked the dance numbers here as well as her ballads. Moore sings with so much grit on a lot of the numbers here and a few songs had me crying with the emotion she gives in her voice. For several years after she was dropped from Capitol Records' roster in the early '90s, I was going, Where's Melba? But this is a finely done release on an independent label. And yes, Melba sounded wonderful in Beyonce Knowles' movie The Fighting Temptations!
Not The Melba I Knew & Loved.......2002-08-12
I am a Melba Moore fan. I loved Melba Moore's music back in the day. I have her "A Lot of Love"(1986),"I'm In Love"(1988)and "Soul Exposed"(1990) cassettes. I even purchased,"This is It,The Best of Melba Moore" CD. All were nice. But "Solitary Journey",I must say is horrible. Even the dance remixes were horrible. Sometimes one may not like a regular version of a song but may instead like the dance/house remix version of a song. Melba has a very unique voice. She has a "Broadway" type voice. I've heard that she's good on stage in plays and in concert. She need to find the right producers and writers to help her make a decent comeback. Maybe she need to seek the aid of such producers as Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis or BabyFace, someone who can really pull the best out of a singer and make the singer sound their best. I love Melba and hopes she finds the right writers and producers help her make a great comeback. I would look forward to hearing some good music from her again. Good Luck Melba
Very well comeback for Melba Moore ckeck the CD out.......1999-04-23
Well Melba Moore fan's the new CD is out I love all 14 tracks, really good vocals as well do buy if your a long life fan who has all 14 albums you will enjoy.
