Everything about this CD, from its eye-popping cool packaging to its beautiful booklet, is wonderful, perhaps peerless. It's a study that spans 16 countries, catching paeans to childhood sleep from varied traditions. The set traverses the Cape Breton Gaelic tradition with the Rankin Family, Haiti with pop stars Boukman Eksperyans, and the African continent with music from Tonga, Algeria, and Cameroon. Despite their distances from each other, at times the songs sound quite alike. Voices might begin alone but then gather into choral size, with a reliance on wordless passages to emphasize the flow of time as sleep encroaches. In execution, the surprises are many. Algerian Houria Aïchi sounds East Indian; the Traditional Japanese Music Ensemble of New York sounds poised somewhere between a stately concert of historical court music and a touching homage to childhood; and German singer Michelle sounds pop-music ready even as she toes the line on singing a sleep-triggering song. Beyond being a great collection of international music, this is probably the most interesting mix available of cultural voices approaching the issue of children sleeping. --Andrew BartlettCustomer Reviews:

The Absolute Best Compilation Of Julio's Great Ballads!.......2005-06-21
Yes, I am an eternal romantic. And Julio Iglesias is the all-time master of the romance ballad. Few other vocalists can communicate the intensity of love, its joys, melancholy and suffering as well as he does, (and everyone who loves, suffers, at least a little). Some men are turned off by all the schmaltz. But women, worldwide, love Iglesias and his repertoire. I lived for many years in Mexico and Latin America - some of my best years, in fact, and listening to these 2 wonderful CDs brings back, to my mind's eye & ear, the faces and voices of people so special to me; moments spent in the tropical sunshine and others in the crisp mountain air of the Andes; and, of course, starlit nights, romance and friendship also. I remember laughing and crying with my girlfriends to these very same songs - comparing notes about the capriciousness of love. The first time I listened to "33 Anos," (33 Years), I was 33 years-old...and felt as if I were rapidly moving toward middle age, as does Julio in the song. Many years later, now, I have to laugh!
Originally released in 1978, the 2 CD compilation was re-released in 1998. Although the lyrics in many of the 24 songs are exceptionally beautiful, one does not have to speak Spanish to appreciate the quality of Sr. Iglesias' warm velvety voice or the romantic orchestral backup. Are these his 24 greatest songs? Disc 1 is absolutely on target. There's not a single cut that should be omitted, although I wish I could have added some. The music and lyrics of the nostalgic "Me Olvide De Vivir," and the exquisitely tender love song "A Flor De Piel," are favorites. The raw emotion in "Abrazame," and "Por Un Poco de Tu Amor" could bring forth tears from a stone. Disc 2 is more upbeat, and although many of the cuts are excellent, I could eliminate some tracks easily. I love the Mexican classic, "Cu-Cu-Rru-Cu-Cu Paloma," the dramatic "Candilejas," and the beautiful "Jurame, and "Caminito" are highlights. I have never been a fan of "Manuela," although it doesn't bother me to listen to it. However, "Un Dia Tu, Un Dia Yo" is an awful song, and I could do without "Quiereme" also.
Make no mistake though, this is probably the best collection ever of Julio Iglesias' great ballads and it is definitely a 5 Star album. I am being picky, that's all. I want all 24 songs to be superb - but my taste is not everyone's, and what pleases me most might not do the same for others. "Julio Iglesias: The 24 Greatest Songs" is a truly great album. I highly recommend it.

Product Description
Children have a natural ability to learn multiple languages easily. Studies show that from birth to age 12, a child's brain is open to assimilate and retain other languages. With repeat exposure to another language, your child's mental develpment will be enriched and carry over into all aspects of learning. This entire CD has been sung only in Spanish to immerse the child fully in the language. This method has been proven to be the most effective way to teach secondary languages. Nursery rhyme songs are a perfect way to introduce or continue developing another language in a familiar setting. Children will recognize the tunes and be able to make a connection with what they are singing. The tempo of these songs has been slowed down slightly so that the words are easy for children to hear and articulate themselves, in order to sing along. Written lyrics have also been included. Childhood development is extremely important! Adding additional languages in a fun, musical environment will only increases a child's capacity for knowledge.Customer Reviews:

Who said musical comedy was dead? Was it you? Fools! There are more shining moments in each of these 39 zippy little numbers than in the complete score of any bloated Broadway dud today. Peppered with original dialogue, and seven renditions of "The Simpsons Main Title Theme" (including Australian, Big Band, and Afro-Cuban), this disc includes beloved originals like "Who Needs the Kwik-E-Mart?" Even better are the scathing parodies: "Oh, Streetcar!" (Tennessee Williams à la community musical theater); "Dr. Zaius" (Falco-meets-Planet of the Apes); and "See My Vest" (Monty Burns's jaunty dissection of Disney's "Be Our Guest"). With celebrity cameos from Tony Bennett, Robert Goulet, and Beverly D'Angelo, Songs is a sparkling tonic to sustain you through the seven dreary days between Sunday evenings. --Kurt B. 4 1/2 Springfield, You Rock! .......2005-03-15
Krusty's "Send in the Clowns" is a prime example of the importance and the sheer quality of the songs in the show. Like the best musicals, they advance the plot, jive with with the show's themes and characters, and are musically memorable and lyrically hilarious. Some of the songs are played semi-straight (Lurleen's country songs) while others extend the subversive, on-target humor of one of TV's most brilliant shows. (As the co-owner of the creature who actually won the "animal who most resembles a Simpson contest," receiving a Matt Groening autographed poster as a prize, I am one of millions of experts on the show and a longtime fan.)
I agree with the reviewer who said there were a just a few too many reworkings of the Simpson theme songs on the CD (although many of these are of unquestionable worth), the CD, replete with both music and samplings of dialogue is a tribute to the show, a true bargain box set, and a must for any Simpsons or musical comedy fan. Springfield, you RAWK!

"Rhum and Coca-Cola" and "Whispering" are my two winners for this album. The vocals needed to be honed (or fixed with "studio magic") before some of these were released to the public. I got the feeling that Dombasle was trying to channel Edith Piaf at times, but she's no Edith Piaf.

The Kronos Quartet have been luminaries of modern Western classical music for more than thirty years. So despite their previous forays into world music, a headlong dive into the alternative universe of Bollywood (Bombay-plus-Hollywood) soundtracks may seem somewhat incongruous. But Kronos leader David Harrington is a longtime fan of composer R.D. Burman¹s florid pop extravaganzas, which propelled an already saturated palette into day-glo and beyond. To get the project off the ground, he had to convince one of India¹s prolific and versatile "playback" singers to come on board. The legendary Asha Bhosle is a renowned Burman interpreter so securing her services was a major coup. To replicate the reverb-laden "wall of sound" typical of Burman arrangements, Kronos and Ashaji, accompanied by Indian percussionist Zakir Hussain and Chinese pipa virtuoso Wu Man, overdubbed themselves into a teeming multitude. However, there is nothing soulless or "canned" about the results; indeed, composer and singer emerge refreshed and more vivid than ever before, shaking their stuff amid swirling Technicolor veils of tongue-in-cheek mystery and sensuality. --Christina RodenAlbum Description
Sumptuous and surreal, the Kronos Quartet and Asha Bhosle's You've Stolen My Heart is not unlike the colorful, melodramatic Indian film musicals to which it pays tribute. Eight of its twelve tracks feature superstar Bollywood film playback singer Asha Bhosle, widely considered the world's most recorded vocalist. The songs were chosen from the repertoire of her husband, the late composer R.D. Burman, who revolutionized the sound of the movies produced at Mumbai's (formerly Bombay) fabled studios, a.k.a. Bollywood.Customer Reviews:
