Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

Mr. Montgomery does a great job with the 4 tracker. Imaginitive use of effects and the e-bow. Has a homemade feel to it though. That might turn off some folks, not me though. I don't think I'd like this stuff as a steady diet, but, it has it's place. Nice mood music. Try it, you might like it!

i believe the reviewer who says this was composed after roy spent the night atop an inca pyramid is actually thinking of the album Temple IV. this release has a lot of the same sort of ebow enhanced layered guitar droning one expects from roy montgomery, but adds a few more instruments and some vocals from time to time. if you are used to his instrumental works like temple IV and scenes from the south island, these additions can be a little shocking and slightly annoying at first, but after spending some time with it, the whole album flows together very well, and roy's voice and lyrics fit in perfectly. i still prefer his soundscapes using just guitar, guitar, and guitar, but i don't need 20 albums of the exact same thing from any artist, and this is an excellent change of pace from mr. montgomery.

sublime melting minds.......2000-07-19

a beutiful album, one man an ebow and a four track. the songs melt together to form images of bliss, this was writen after the artist spent a night in a south american inca temple. beutifully layered building to cresendos then fadeing back, ebb and flow. amaizing album

Re-release (with 3 bonus tracks) of lost classic '95 debut songs album by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire. Combining US West Coast harmonies with Celtic Roots and World music and jazz touches this release is an excellent way to follow Chris Conway's story from the beginning.
Conway has played with members of Jethro Tull, Fairport Convention and toured UK with Monkee Peter Tork.

Chris is also a member of World Music band Re-Orient and has recorded a host of albums since Sounds Like Rain.

"Sounds Like Rain" is a rich album brimful with great songs and a great big sound. - influences David Crosby, Alan Stivell, Joni..., John Phillips, John Sebastian. Harmonies...

It all amounts to something really quite special. Clearly Conway is a songwriter, arranger and performer of considerable ambition, vision and ability. A very polished collection, Conway's debut ought to have reached a far wider audience than it presumably did originally, and this time around perhaps it will, for it's excellent stuff throughout and comes complete with three bonus tracks to clinch the deal.

The pretty melodies and swaying rhythms incorporate a wide range of influences from rock, to celtic, to world music. All the pieces on this disc have a strong sense of rhythm and purpose, and Conway's soothing chord voicings on the guitar add greatly to the overall harmonic intrigue of this fine collection of songs. If you like great contemporary music of the singer-songwriter genre, this CD is definitely worth the listen.

I have just one problem with it..........2001-10-23

...it ends. But enough about endings,
"Sometimes" is such a sweet beginning to the album...in fact. it
seems a companion, a bookend, to "Askin' You To", with its homey
accordion and straightforward lyric. These songs remind me of Neil
Young's "Sleeps With Angels" album, where he used two very unironic
yet sentimental tunes to frame a series of much more potent and
questioning songs. And "Net." I love "Net" This song is
like snow in April, or a kiss thrown from a train...it seems to last
only a moment, and to hang in the air just long enough to lodge in
your ear, and haunt you the rest of the day. "Everything Must Go" is
another total standout; I love the way the guitars sound, especially
the electric guitar in the refrain. But I was completely unprepared
for Nobody's Fool." It's such an understatedly gorgeous song that I
just sat and didn't move while it played. To me, it feels like the emotional peak of the
album. Sorry if all this stream-of-consciousness prattle is hard on
your eyes...In short, I love it.
