Clannad is made up of singer-harpist Maire Brennan, her brother Ciaran, and their twin uncles, Padraig and Noel Duggan. They all hail from a Donegal gaeltacht (gaelic-speaking region) and began playing music in the Brennan family pub. At first, they were more appreciated on the Continent than at home, as Irish-language singing was not then in vogue, but are now one of Ireland's most-beloved bands. These live performances date from 1996 and prove beyond any doubt that the group sounds as polished live as they do on studio albums. The material covers 30 years of repertoire; Dulaman, which is about gathering seaweed on the shore, dates from the very beginning of their career, when they were still primarily an acoustic band with slight jazzy edge. The now-hackneyed Theme From Harry's Game recalls the ethereal, gooey excesses of the "Celtic Twilight" marketing concept--it has not worn nearly so well. --Christina Roden

Don't ecpect anything new from Clannad on this Album. There are
11 well known tracks for everyone who loves and like the sound of Irish music and you can listen those songs live which are
recorded over several shows from their 1996 tour. But it is well worth to buy it and just relax with Marie Brennans beautiful voice and a great music.

That's what Irish music is about !!.......2006-12-03

...at least, as far as a Bavarian can judge that.
The 13 tracks on this compilation are very well performed - by a band in REALLY GOOD MOOD. The audience in this Live cut immediately catches the band's spirit - and I'm sure so will you when listenning to that great record. I heard it last summer with headphones on, when walking through the woods. So I could freely do what the Clancys forced me to: Sing (rather shout) out loud and dance - with a jug of punch in my ears but (I assure you) not even a thimble of it in my belly. And I also had a good smile about the funny and sometimes sarky announcements between the tracks.
To cut it short - that thing is a Must-Have for anyone who likes cheerful (but not silly), handmade music!

Music for All Generations.......2006-06-02

Okay, Irish music fans, if you're serious about your obsession, then there's just no reason to pass this CD by. As traditional as St. Patrick's Day, the Greenfields of America bring such an infectious energy to their performances that it's a wonder half the world isn't drinking a pint in their honor. Combining all elements of Irish culture, from the written word of Celtic poetry, to mournful Gaelic ballads, to jigs that will practically force you out of your seat, these guys do it all with a grace that does Ireland proud. Still in all, this is not your grandfather's Irish music, but beautifully contemporary versions that just might prove that the old man had it right all along. (A-) - Tom Ryan

Number One on my "desert isle" list..........2003-06-03

Just to set the record straight (see the other reviews), the lead singer on "Kilkelly" (on this CD and on the 'Kilkelly' CD) is Robbie O'Connell. Mick Moloney does sing harmony on this song, and a glorious job it is by both of them.
That said, you really need this album. It captures the group Green Fields, comprised of all stellar artists in their own right, at its finest. You will not be disappointed.

Great Collection of Timeless Irish Music.......2000-01-23

This is a great album. I bought it the first time at a perfomance of Mick Moloney (the main artist), and then gave it to a friend. I agree with the other review that the rendition of Kilkelly on this album is better than on his album "Kilkelly"; but niether can compare to the way Mick Moloney sings it live. A truly great contribution to traditional Irish Music.

This version of Kilkelly is more beautiful...........2000-01-15

There is a gorgeous, haunting song on this album-- Kilkelly--about an old man whose children leave Ireland during a potato famine for a better life. Those of you of irish descent--or with an irish heart--get out your handkerchiefs. Particularly if you've been drinking whiskey or beer. Mick sings like an angel, and this is a better version than the one on his cd entitled Kilkelly.
