5 out of 5 stars I haven't found a better one.......2006-05-26

An exceptionally well-sequenced collection. I usually don't like BEST OF discs that scramble chronology, but the people who put this together did a great job; the different styles of production keep this interesting all the way through. In this context, I can even appreciate his poppy early work. Excellent sound. And it's got most of the songs from "Harold and Maude"! Ignore the cover and GET THIS (used).

5 out of 5 stars GREAT COLLECTION.......2003-05-08

For the die-hard Cat Stevens fan who wants to hear the 'very best of Cat Stevens' I'd say buy every CD he made. For the peripherally interested, this is the album to get, in my opinion. Not only does it contain a large portion of his most favoured period [Tillerman/Teaser] but it also contains a bit from all his periods. This is Cat Stevens in a nutshell. It includes at least one song from every album. My favourites are Moonshadow, Land of freelove adn goodbye and Into white.

5 out of 5 stars Practically Perfect.......2002-03-19

This CD has all of the tracks that you'll ever need, TERRIFIC sound quality, and even a cover that depicts how beautiful, spiritual and dreamy the music is (though listening to the music is still better than looking at some kid doing Yoga). Opt for the import -- it's worth it!

5 out of 5 stars A true classic.......2000-11-22

Cat Stevens is another artist I grew up as a teenager. His music speaks to the human soul. I almost forgotten about his contribution "If you want to sing out, sing out" to the film classic "Harold and Maude". It was like reacquainting myself with an old friend. Songs like "Father and Song" and "Morning Has Broken" moves me in a way no other artist can. I consider his version of "Another Saturday Night" far superior to the original by Al Green. Obviously this collection of Cat Stevens songs has four extra tracks that his greatest hits cd doesn't have. For anyone interested in buying a compilation of Cat Stevens songs, this ultimate collection is the way to go.

5 out of 5 stars Songs with feelings.......2000-04-28

For those who don't know his work, this is a great CD with all his major hits, a Collection of songs that reveal all sorts of emotions, from happiness to sorrow. For those who do know his work, this is just another CD with his most famous titles. I already knew his work, but i liked it.

5 out of 5 stars "Confusion" no way. Look for this on Amazon as a remaster with bonus tracks!.......2007-07-16

As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" and a former radio disc-jockey, I am often asked to write and or discuss various music supplies and recordings from the 60's and 70's.

The answer is yes. Those that pose the question if I get a remastered copy of Remember The Future with the bonus single edit can I hear Roye's guitar? Thankfully, the latest version sounds the way the original album was intended for the listener. Make sure you only purchase the remaster!

This is one of the finest examples of progressive music ever crafted. Nektar's uncanny ability to mix their style of rock and roll with intense improvisational pieces is once again unveiled here.

Roye Albrighton's guitar-playing is stunning, Mo's bass is tremendous, Ron's drums excel and Taff picks his stops on the keys. The vocals are flawless.

Although thought of as two long pieces Remember The Future Part 1 and 2, the album has plenty of subdivisions to keep the journey exhilarating. Take a trip back in time
    Life evolving growing higher
Not just space that bluebird sees
in the sea a new domain

The opening passage sets the tone for the bombardment of your senses. Lyrical and instrumentation can rarely reach this level. As we travel further the words intensify.

I was the first to see it all when the rainbow
    crossed the bridge at dawn
Forty billion miles I came to tell this
    Tale already told

When side two emanates from the speakers listen carefully to the section the band refers to as ""Bluebird" > "Smile" > "Lonely Roads." It's diversity and complexity is nothing short of extraordinary.

There are record albums and there are masterpieces preserved for the future to help us remember it.

Enjoy the music and be well,
    Craig Fenton
Author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent"

2 out of 5 stars Muy poco para recordar.......2004-03-17

1 out of 5 stars They practically ruined a great album..........2003-07-27

Should've never bought this very substandard re-mix of what was
originally a very fine work. I'll let it be known that whoever
did this crappy remastering job turned down the guitar so far
that you can't even hear it when the rest of the band is playing,
and barely can hear it when it's the only instrument.
The keyboards and vocals are all I can hear for about all of it.
I just wish I'd have read the other reviews before I got all
enthusiastic and bought the damn thing. It's really disappointing
to want to hear a record like this (a really good one),
and then when you play it - it's been drastically altered,
    for the worse.

4 out of 5 stars Rock and Roll from its finest hour.......2002-08-29

I would like to buy this album on CD but from reading the reviews I feel I am better off not getting it due to poor remastering. I have the vinyl, it is practically new. I originally bought this on 8 track tape, got listened out on it, but still bought the album later on after 8 track was a thing of the past. The song "Confusion" is what I would call one of the first "spacy" songs I've heard. This album has a sound of its own and fits with much of the other progressive rock coming out at the same time.

2 out of 5 stars remaster on the way.......2002-05-22

The original CD is flawed version of a great album and was apparently taken from the wrong tape. If you've heard the LP, you'll be greatly disappointed. The good news is a remastered CD, said to be faithful to the original record, is due for release by the band in June, 2002. My advice: wait for the reissue.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful face, beautiful voice........2004-03-16

This is an absolutely charming compilation of recordings from the incomparable Moira Anderson. Her voice is instantly recognizable with its rich, almost mezzoish sound, yet listen to how she effortlessly scales the heights in such numbers as 'Poor Wand'ring One' and the brilliant 'Waltz Song' from Tom Jones. In the former, she sings the traditional cadenza at the end, and sustains a gorgeous high E flat; in the latter, while not as showy as Sutherland in her recording on the 'Love Live Forever' album, she nevertheless handles the coloratura effortlessly and soars to a top D at the end. Still in the coloratura realm, the Mozart 'Alleluia' is tossed off pretty convincingly, and there are some pretty staccato interpolations in 'Waltzing in the Clouds'. But it's when the songs call for real soul that the goosebumps rise on my arms - listen to the beautiful renditions of 'A Perfect Day', 'Ye Banks and Braes' and 'Whispering Hope'. They're quite simply definitive. I could go on and on, but this is a CD to play over and over and never tire of. If only they'd transfer Moira's Ivor Novello recordings to CD! I have several of her Scottish CDs; let's hope there are more surprises to come.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Lanza in (mostly) top form.......2004-11-28

This is a "twofer" CD, consisting of the 1955 soundtrack to the movie Serenade and the 1956 Cavalcade of Show Tunes album. Before I go any further, however, I should acknowledge that I was one of the liner note writers for this release. But I have no financial interest in the CD, and am simply reviewing it here because to date no one else has commented on it!

Serenade marked Lanza's return to films after an absence of three years, and revealed a voice that had darkened considerably, while still retaining its brilliant upper register. Stylistically, this is also a much-improved artist in many respects from the sometimes-wayward tenor of the early 1950s. Anyone who compares Lanza's superbly operatic renditions here of Amor Ti Vieta, Lamento di Federico, and O Paradiso with his earlier versions (all featured on the CD Mario Lanza Sings Opera Arias and Duets) will immediately detect the new-found control in his singing.

That's not to say that all of the Serenade material is outstanding. Lanza's renditions of Nessun Dorma, O Soave Fanciulla, Di Quella Pira, and the title song are below par, with the tenor uncharacteristically strained in the upper register and rough in his approach. But redeeming everything are the oustanding renditions of the arias mentioned in the previous paragraph, together with Lanza's sensitive singing of Di Rigori Armato from Der Rosenkavalier, a superb Torna a Surriento, and an unsurpassed Dio! Mi Potevi Scagliar from Otello. Lanza also recorded the Act III duet from Otello with Licia Albanese for this film, but time constraints have reduced it to a brief extract here. (The entire duet, however, can be heard on the aforementioned Arias & Duets CD.)

The other album featured here showcases the romantic side of Lanza. Beautifully recorded, Cavalcade includes passionate renditions of Yours is My Heart Alone, Only a Rose, Will You Remember, and other selections from operetta and musical comedy. Although Lanza may indeed be *too* zestful here for some tastes, vocally at least, he is at the height of his powers. The voice is rich and round - gloriously consistent throughout its registers - and the abundance of effortless B flats, Bs, and even a high C reveal a tenor in formidable form.

    Highly recommended.
