Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

Great selection of music, and well presented. This is however older recordings that do not match the quality of Rutter's latest recordings such as the Te Deum or the Gloria.

Especially touching are two of Rutter's original carols, "Christmas Lullaby" and the joyful "Angels' Carol." The musical selections speak to the soul, helping the listener connect to emotions of joy, peace, faith, hope, and love. This is a worthy addition to your collection of Christmas CDs.

If I were to choose only one Christmas album to ever own, this would be the one. John Rutter is an exceptional composer of religious music, with unusual harmonies. The music is difficult to sing, and because this is his own choir and he is directing it, the performance is flawless. Gives you goosebumps.

Not even close to being as good as the first "Crow"'s soundtrack. Too repeatitive to my ears.

Not nearly as good as the first but it's not without some great tracks..........2006-09-23

Straight to the point. This album is not nearly as good as the first. But Hole, Rob Zombie, Filter, Pj Harvey, Bush (surprisingly amazing with the Joy Division cover... cause apparently this franchise really digs those), and Iggy Pop all have great songs so it certainly isn't a waste of money. But many of the other songs(and artists) have not withstood the test of time. I would say go grab some of the songs off of this, and a couple of the songs of the abysmal follow up (The Crow 3: A Movie No One Has Seen) and call it a day.

Beautifully Gloomy Compilation.......2005-10-16

The Crow: City of Angels soundtrack is an absolutely beautiful, yet utterly gloomy and dark compilation from the best of the mid 90's alt-rock, and hip-hop, scene.

The album features a handful of covers (including Hole's awesome cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Gold Dust Woman" and Bush's adequately dark Joydivision track, "In A Lonely Place"), some b-sides from the best of the rap metal scene (Korn's "Sean Olson" and the ripping Deftones track "Teething") and some of the absolute BEST low-key collaborations of the decade (rounded out by 4 Non-Blondes Linda Perry & Jefferson Airplane's Grace Slick on "Knock Me Out" and my personal favourite track on the disc, Tricky and The Gravediggaz trading some creepy and unnerving verses on the ultra-ambient "Tonite is A Special Nite"). Other alt-rock favourites such as Filter, Toadies and the underrated NY Loose appear also, offering some rare tracks that really bring a smooth and solid cohesiveness to the package.

The album faithfully and effectively carries on the dark and melancholy mood inspired by the films themselves, and there is never really a dull moment on the disc. A teriffic soundtrack album, worthy of picking up for any fans of dark and gloomy rock, harsh alternative or for fans of the movie(s) themselves. Other mentionables include PJ Harvey's "Naked Cousin" and Iggy Pop's energetic live performance of "I Wanna Be Your Dog". Do not pass this one over.

Filter, Bush, the Toadies....Remember these bands?.......2005-07-13

I've been carrying around a battle-scarred copy of this CD for years. While I don't revisit the alt-rock hits at the beginning, I have discovered a jewel near the end of the disc - Iggy Pop's live version of "I Wanna Be Your Dog". It is an absolutely blistering track. I don't know how many people out there are Stooges fans, but this version beats the original on their first album, hands down. Iggy manages to pack more power and sleaze into 3 minutes than any of these other bands can put on an album.

One of the best!!!.......2004-07-23

I HAD to give this CD 5 stars since it is one of the VERY FEW cd's I've bought over the past decade where I like every song (one of four actually, the others being AC/DC - Live, Weird Al - Bad Hair Day and Gravity Kills self titled album). I bought it when it first came out and still listen to it today. The songs blend well together and carry the emotion of The Crow legacy with them. I rate this album the best in the series.

The picture.......2006-12-11

I haven't purchased the CD but the picture of the inside of a church on the cover is not of a British church, like one would assume since it says its a recording of British choirs. This picture is of Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Just thought i'd let you know. I'll be honest; I'm one to judge things by it's cover and if the company took such care to choose a 'British' church for their British choir CD, I'm willing to bet the music is equally well selected... I'm being sarcastic. But I gave the product 5 stars because I didn't want to hurt its ratings just because i'm cynical. But check out the church if you're ever in Montreal, it's truly beautiful... here I'm not being sarcastic.

yes, every one is writing about the "fast" songs, which i have no problem with, but they're forgetting about the darkest song in the album-"Long Shadows"- this song is awsome, mad lirics, slow moody beats, and an awsome intro-
along with "Neon Ray", and "Metropol" This cd is one of the best because of its variety-It will always make my speakers drown in style and sound.

Deep Bass... Nice Smooth Rhythm and Beats........2000-08-20

I hate to say this (mainly because that's what everyone else's saying), but the first song I heard by Lunatic Calm was "Leave you Far Behind", from The Matrix. I'd have to say that the energetic pulse and vocals in this song really made me want to learn more about Lunatic Calm, so I came here (Amazon), and listened to the samples. I really liked the samples, and thought they sounded very similar to Fluke's material (another great band), so I decided to buy the album.

Lunatic Calm isn't all energetic pulses, hard bass, and driving melodies though... "Leave you far Behind" is probably the hardest, and fastest track on the cd. Most of the cd is slow, smooth vibes. Everything here is similar to a lot of the material on Fluke's cd, Risotto. So, if you've happened to have heard (and liked) that cd, this is probably for you. Most of the songs on this cd are fairly long, and I guess some people might find them a bit boring. They're definitely not dance tracks, because they're slow, and somewhat mellow, but not by any means ambient, or minimal.

Every song on this cd has a nice, deep bassline that really has a nice rhythm. A few of the songs contain some voice samples, and dreamy, subtle vocals. They fit in very well with the song, and are part of what makes this album so ingenius. The bottom line is, this cd is for anyone who likes breakbeat, trance, ambient, dnb, or just smooth, somewhat layed-back beats. I was very, very happy when I got this cd, and I'm sure it'll stay one of my favorite Techno CD's for a while.

I think this is a /great/ album. It takes a little while to grow on you, hence the 4 star rating. Leave You Far Behind is probably the most energetic track on there, so don't buy it expecting rave music. A lot of it is trancy breakbeat stuff. Which of course, is good :)

There's more to 'Leave'ing.......2000-04-23

When I lost all of my CDs a couple of weeks ago, this was the first one I rebought. The reason: Lunatic Calm is awesome hard core techno. The popular track "Leave You Far Behind" is the kind of adrenaline-pumping song that makes you think you can take Jesse Ventura hand-to-hand. But this surely is not the only reason I am repurchasing Lunatic Calm. Other reviews leave out the a**-kicking tracks "The Sound" and "It Evolves on its Own," in which the mere method that the artists brings you into the beat is, well, really cool. Be advised however, that not all the tracks are as fast as the one on Matrix, but this does not detract from the appeal of the album. I give it 4.5.

Im mostly into rock and punk but when i heard leave you far behind i ran to get it. The CD Kicks!
