Seussical: The Musical [Cast Recording]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Seussical: the Musical, which is based on Dr. Seuss's beloved characters, made the news even before its Broadway opening, as tales of disastrous out-of-town tryouts multiplied and creative turmoil abounded. But the show has its fans--Rosie O'Donnell, for one, likes it so much that she jumped in to play the Cat in the Hat for a month while Roger Bart was on vacation. And guess what? As conceived by Ragtime's Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, Seussical isn't nearly as bad as its reputation would suggest. While Junior digs the familiar characters, Mom and Dad will notice that "A Day for the Cat in the Hat" could be an outtake from Cabaret--if that show had been rated G, of course--while "It's Possible" suddenly turns into an Elton John-type romp midway through. Easy on the ear and very pop, this is a kid-friendly cast album that won't insult an adult's intelligence. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

WILL NOT DISAPPOINT!!!.......2007-07-01
MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE TAKEN OUR KIDS (AGES 4 & 6) TO SEE THIS TWICE AND WE'LL GO SEE IT AGAIN WHEN IT COMES BACK. IN THE MEANTIME, WE HAVE THIS CD SO WE CAN SING ALONG WITH AND ENJOY THE MUSIC. THIS IS VERY UP-BEAT AND FUN FOR ALL AGES. I LOVE IT AND SO DOES MY HUSBAND. THIS IS SOMETHING WE CAN ENJOY ALONG WITH THE KIDS. VERY TRUE TO THE STORIES BY DR. SEUSS, ANYONE WHO LOVES HIS BOOKS WILL LOVE THIS CD.
Preparing for an Audition.......2007-05-25
My young daughter and several kids from her school were going to audition for roles in our community theatre's production of Seussical. I ordered this CD to help them practice. It was such a great tool!
The music is wonderful and the songs cover many styles of music. There is something on this CD for everyone!
I wish that a DVD of the musical was available.
By the way, my daughter secured a role! Hooray!
Great Fun!.......2007-04-04
We have never seen this show on stage, but we were curious about the music. We were not disappointed! The music is clever, catchy, fun, and very well-done. There are even some sweet songs that bring tears to your eyes.
The story is easy to figure out from the various songs, as well as the notes in the lyrics. The story includes many characters from Dr. Seuss books such as The Cat in the Hat, Horton, the Whos, Gertrude McFuzz....the list goes on. It is amazing how many characters are represented, and how many books are referred to.
After playing this in the car, I have often overheard my kids singing various songs from the CD. This is just a lot of fun for the entire family. We are looking forward to finally seeing the show on stage this summer.
My kids and I highly recommend this fantastic group of songs!
Seussical: The Musical (Original Cast Recoarding).......2007-03-31
This is a great CD with amazing music. The story is SO great, and it has an extremely powerful message. This show is written based on the different books of Dr. Seuss. Most of the characters are based on the books that he wrote. Some of these are Hortan (one of the main character) the grinch with all the whos, gertruid, mazie, and of course the narrartor, "Cat in the Hat" Don't give up, do what is right even if you're not always going to be popular. As Hortan says time and time again "A Persons a person no matter how small." I love this music, and I can't wait to see this show in a few weeks at "The Childrens Theatre" in Minnsota.
A great CD..........2007-03-17
Well, when I found out that my community theatre was putting on Seussical, I got around to checking out the album. I had meant to earlier but had never gotten around to it. The music is fun, the singers are great, and it leaves me thinking, "Who should I audition for? I want to play them all!" This is a great CD, I love it.

Based on the popular 1960 novel by Peter S. Beagle, best known for his novel, "The Last Unicorn", the musical version of A FINE AND PRIVATE PLACE features the entire Goodspeed Opera House cast from the premiere production. This musical version, with book and lyrics by Erik Haagensen and music by Richard Isen, has been produced in small theaters across the US and is available from Samuel French, Inc. and is finally available on CD. Customer Reviews:
Closer to opera than a musical.......2004-10-15
I read Peter Beagle's book years ago and was intrigued about a musical treatment of the story. The libretto follows the book fairly close, but the music and lyrics are a little slow and dry. Almost exclusively performed with a solo piano, the dialogue is sung with a minimum of spoken lines, (like opera). There are no "memorable" songs that could independently stand, like ones from most musicals, (i.e. "76 Trombones", "Tonight", Music of the Night", etc...) I think it is different, but not really that good of a musical.
A score full of magic and heart.......2004-09-09
I have been a fan of this show since the Goodspeed production and am very happy to finally have it recorded. The songs convey both the fantasy aspects of the original novel and the emotional inner core of each character. Songs effectively move forward the plot and define the characters while being satisfying musical pieces on their own. The lyrics are both clever and touching. The simple yet effective arrangements support the singers and bring out the exciting inner harmonies without overwhelming the singers. Listening to this CD will be a thrill for anyone who longs to hear a good modern book musical with heart.
Soulful, Touching Score.......2004-09-09
I had been waiting for the release of this soundtrack, and it's finally here! This show is amazing!
Previous Review.......2004-09-09
I suppose everyone is entitled to their opinion but I can't resist pointing out to the previous reviewer that there are four MP3 songs available for download so it would've been very easy to hear good quality versions of the tracks prior to purchasing.
Something suspicious about this review from M. Sparkman AKA "Infaustus". Everyone else-have a listen and make up your own mind!
Casio Keyboard Quality.......2004-09-08
The reviews I read of this show convinced me to buy the cd. Don't listen to them! The quality of the recording is horrible, especially the "orchestra". Since when does one keyboard classify as an orchestra. And the "witty, charming" lyrics are at best a chessey attempt at being clever. Please save your money. Thanks amazon for recommending this terrible cd to me. Glad I could pad your pockets some more.
