As far as we know, Bat Boy is the only musical to have been inspired by a headline in the Weekly World News tabloid. It tells the story of, well, a bat boy (complete with pointy ears) found in a West Virginia cave. Adopted by the family of the town's vet, Edgar--as he comes to be known--actually goes on to acquire an education and even falls in love with the vet's daughter, all the while struggling to keep his blood thirst under control. Things end tragically--unsurprisingly, interspecies romance is still battling considerable prejudice in this country. Composer-lyricist Laurence O'Keefe came up with catchy songs that owe a lot to late 1960s and early '70s rock musicals such as Godspell and even The Rocky Horror Show. Skillfully walking the thin line between over-the-top camp and actual emotion, O'Keefe has written a wonderful little musical that cleverly deals with issues of difference and community values. As weird as it sounds, we foresee quite a future for Bat Boy in amateur productions. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Bat Boy is a musical tour de force, a gem of a show that transcends its unlikely source material, the perennial cover freak for the sub-tabloid Weekly World News. It should please any open-minded musical theatre buff with it's bouncy numbers and absolutely fantastic cast. Don't deny your beast within, take a chance on Bat Boy!

I first heard of this musical on researching the W.W.N.'s character, and thought the idea was a little silly; a musical based on a tabloid bat/human hybrid. I heard the show was along the lines of a black comedy like Rocky Horror and Little Shop of Horrors, so I picked up the soundtrack and the script anyway. To my surprise, it turned out to be an awesome show, and I'd love to see it live! The soundtrack is amazing, and a must for all into dark comedies.

This is an AMAZING show...I have never seen it but the music is so well done I know I would love the show. The songs WILL get stuck in your head!!! and come on thats what a musical should do!!!! Buy this CD before it is gone forever...this is a great one to add to your broadway CD's...

"Bat Boy" is perhaps the strangest musical I have ever seen. When I heard my University was doing a production, and the flyers started popping up all over campus, I questioned the theater department's sanity. How could this possibly be good? I could not have been more wrong.

It's fantastic in every sense of the word. The music and lyrics are not only catchy, but moving. The main characters are for the most part tragic, but each with his or her own redeeming values. They are honest to God human in that way, Bat Boy more so than anyone. The songs and themes range from hilarious, to bizarre, to extremely serious (especially with the finale reminiscent of the final scene of Hamlet.) There's a bit of everything for all lovers of Drama: doomed love, prejudice, church revivals(heh), moral lessons ("Love your neighbor, forgive, keep your vows. And a mountain is no place to raise cows!"). Be warned, there are also adult themes like rape and incest. It's not disgustingly vivid at all, but it's there, and absolutely crucial to the story.

If you ever have the opportunity to see the show, GO SEE IT. You won't be sorry.

This CD is a must for anyone who has fallen in love with the story and music.

This CD is great to listen to both musically and story-wise/lyrically, if you know what I mean. The play is very similar to Honk (the story about an ugly duckling named Ugly). Being different is not accepted by the town and yet some folks eventually find a reason to accept the different one. In both plays the mass's can not accept someone being different (sounds like what happens in most schools these days). In Honk, the main character "Ugly" becomes a swan (a very happy ending). The outcome for Edgar (the Bat Boy), is much different in that he gets killed.

From a musical standpoint there are some great tunes on this cd. I find that I am listening to it over and over again. There are Phantom, Jeckell, Ragtime, Honk, Les Mis-like moments throughout, but bottom line here Bat boy is all its own unique.

I think if you buy this cd you'll be glad you own it and find yourself singing these tunes for a long time to come.

I am pretty happy with the CD I have. I noticed that these songs are not on other CD. Summer Time in Venice, Three Coins in the Fountain, The Impossible Dream, Send in The Clown, Somewhere My Love and Elizabethan Serenade. The sound quality is acceptable.

This cd is an ok collection of tunes from Mantovani.It's not the best but it's ok.This 2 cd set features songs such as three coins in a fountain,send in the clowns,skater's waltz,for once in my life and others.This isn't the only version of for once in my life Mantovani did.This version is light strings.Manti's other version is with a harpsicord and heavy strings.It is on Mantovani Scene/Mantovani Sound which has just come out from Vocolion.It also has such songs as dear heart,both sides now,honey and a lot of others.Amazon doesn't have this yet but I have just recieved my copy from another website.Like the other viewer said unfortuanly the sound quality is bad on the best of collection.I even heard somebody coughing on one track and there is some tape hiss from the transfer.I would like to recommend a 2 cd set by John Fox going under the name of the starry night orchestra that is put out by yestermusic(good music group)and has 30 tracks by Mr.Fox.Every song has a heavy string contingment and it states that these were played on beautiful music stations.John Foxes Strings are so beautiful.
The John Fox I'm talking about isn't the same John Fox that is a commedian that is sold on this site.

The Madacy Label has betrayed Mantovani's genious, and substituted poor recordings in these 2 CD's. I have immediately
cancelled all Madacy Label orders with everyone, and will investigate all future items with a Canadian origin prior to purchase.

The quality of the recording is poor. You can hear flutter in the string passages, which is 90% of Mantovani's music! There is also hiss noise, and pops in piece transitions... Amateur transcription from tape to CD's, is my guess. Someone else made bad reviews regarding the poor recording on the same record label, so my suggestion is to stay away from the label Madacy Records.

This CD has a nice collection of Mantovani's work. The combination of older standards with "newer" (such as Stevie Wonder's "For Once In My Life")is great. This is the stuff that is usually mocked as "elevator music" but also considered by many good romancing background music. Many of these arrangements were heard on a local Beautiful Music FM station where I live before the format change. The only negative I have is for a "box set" there is no write-up on the Orchestra. It would have been nice to read about Mantovani and what inspired his arrangements, and the orchestra personnell. My copy was made in Canada by Madacy. Maybe someone who has contact with that company could recommend a booklet for any future copies made.

I'm a HUGE Mantovani fan and have had mixed results trying to upgrade my collection to CDs. This collection is the original orchestra arrangements of all the classics. This is the one to buy.

The Mantovanti Orchestra shows off their "marvelous versatility" in this "wonderful" collection of "8 CDs", with titles that tell you "just what to expect", such as: "The Love Songs", "Memorable Classics", "Itallian Favorites", "On Broadway", etc. You can set the MOOD for practically ANY occassion! There are even some "popular" selections that we all know and treasure like: "Moon River", "Over the Rainbow" and "Autum Leaves"!
You will NOT want to remove these GREAT CDs from your CD Player, once you have listened to them! They make "nice" background music for small get-togethers or "lovely" background music for those "ROMANTIC DINNERS", for you and your "SPECIAL SOMEONE"!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SET!!! It is a GREAT DEAL for the money, even at the full price!!!

Violent Yodel Records is an independent music label out of Ithaca, NY specializing in releasing undiscovered music by singer/songwriters of the alterna/folk/pop genre. It was started in 1999 and currently features the work of 21 year old singer/songwriter/pianist, Skott Freedman.

I saw him last year when he was here at ISU... can't wait to see him again this year! Hope that the snow dosen't get him like it did last year. Buy his CD's at his performances.. they are cheaper there!

5 out of 5 stars I CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO IT!.......2002-04-05

I saw Skott lecture at my university last night. Unfortunately we could't have him perform also but I was able to see him perform tonight at another university. I couldn't leave there without buying a CD! His music is some of the most expressive music I've heard in a long time. Too bad the really sad song isn't recorded yet...let me know when it is Skott and I will buy that CD too! Well anyway I've been listening to my lovely little CD for about three hours now and I can't stop listening to it! As a matter of fact I am listening to it as I write this! :o) If anyone has ever expressed any emotion towards anything at all, you will enjoy this CD!

I went to college with skott and have seen a few of his performances. The talent he possesses is beyond words...watching him perform and listening to his music is a must. Just listen, everyone should. You'll see what I mean. Keep up the great work!

I saw Skott perform at my college (Kansas University) a few weeks ago and had to buy the cd. This album's an incredible blend of awesome poetry and music. His lyrics are really insightful and his voice is always changing. It's the first album I've bought in a long time where EVERY SONG really speaks to me. I highly recommend this cd to anyone with a love of music!!! It's kind of like a male Tori Amos.
