Hedwig And The Angry Inch: Original Cast Recording [Cast Recording]

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Hedwig (John Cameron Mitchell) is a Berlin singer whose sex-change operation left her with an "angry inch" and a taste for eyeliner. Closer to the New York Dolls than to New York's post-Sondheimian composers, Mitchell and composer-lyricist Stephen Trask rehabilitate the decadent bombast of early-'70s glam rock in a succession of catchy numbers. Hedwig makes a great transition from stage to record because the book is wafer-thin and lets the band focus on individual songs instead of trying to integrate a narrative: this is indeed the most radio-friendly cast album in a long time. So what if Trask has never met a power chord he didn't like? It may not revolutionize the musical theater, but the grand finale, "Midnight Radio," will have you reaching for a lighter. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

5 out of 5 stars TRY AND TEAR IT DOWN.......2007-05-24

SHEER ROCK MUSICAL PERFECTION. JOHN CAMERON MITCHELL AND STEPHEN TRASK ARE AMAZING. FUNNY TO ROCK OUT TO A SHOW SOUNDTRACK... THAT WAS A FIRST. BUT YOU CAN'T HELP YOURSELF. I PREFER THIS TO THE FILM SOUNDTRACK FOR NO OTHER REASON THAN IT HAS A RAW EDGE TO IT UNLIKE THE SLICK STUDIO TRACKS OF THE OTHER.

5 out of 5 stars Buy this CD right now........2006-06-08

This CD is right up there with "Purple Rain". It's just ____ing good, G_dd___ it! What more do I have to say? Buy this CD. If you don't like out it you can come down to New Orleans and kick my _ss. I left my real name. Like 2Pac said, "I ain't hard to find." So buy this. Buy this. Buy this. Buy this. Buy this.

5 out of 5 stars Great songs.......2005-10-18

This whole album is filled with so much emotion it makes you weep. Both the stage version and the film soundtrack are great albums if you are a fan of the show or not. No matter what anyone's personal views are or what they feel about the subject matter, you can't help but feel for this character and go with him/her on the journey.
The songs are angry, beautiful and full of raw emotion. Who doesn't understand "Wicked Little Town" sometimes?

4 out of 5 stars Perfect Companion Piece.......2005-09-14

Even though I saw the show many years ago (with JCM), it took the film to get me to purchase the original soundtrack. I never felt a need to purchase the cast CD. However, I finally decided to take a chance and am very happy that I did. If you love the soundtrack, the cast CD adds another layer to the trauma of Hedwig. I enjoy listening to both of them equally.

5 out of 5 stars Truly Great Album.......2005-06-26

I love this Album. Thats all. Anyway I can not stop listening to this CD. I listened to this only CD for four straight hours on a roadtrip. I still am not tired of this CD. Theres still little lyrics I have missed. If someone reading this does not buy the CD, there is seriously something wrong with you. Because its the best CD ever.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous Vicious Mixes.......2001-06-25

I didn't know Hedwig and The Angry Inch but decided to buy this Maxi-Single because of the Johnny Vicious Remixes, and I don't regret it. His remixes (and especially the "Johnny Vicious Club Mix", 10:13') blew me away. This man has the power to give any song an incredible intensity and turn it into a club bomb. His unique signature is perceivable from the first notes of the song and very reminiscent of his fantastic work for Veronica. Moreover, the lyrics of the song are totally infectious. "Angry Inch" is definitly a must-have for any fan of Vicious fabulous work.

5 out of 5 stars Good!!!.......1999-08-17

I can't see this musical, because I live in Japan. But this Johnny Vicious's club mix is very good! If you like React's "Let's go all the way" you'll love this.

3 out of 5 stars It's OK. Nothing great........1999-08-14

No one loves Hedwig more than I do. I'm seeing the show for the seventh time in a few weeks. Naturally I had to get this CD, but I was a little disappointed. The dance mixes of "Angry Inch" would probably be great to dance to, and I'll dance to them as soon as I get the opportunity. However, unlike many dance songs, the song had little merit when I just sat there and listened to it. In fact, they were annoying. I'd much rather sit and listen to the regular version on the cast album. (I still listen to the wonderful cast album almost every day.) The video clip was also something of a downer. It would have been superb if it had been Hedwig performing a song, but instead, all we get are a few short miscellaneous clips and some voice overs. (Still, it was nice to see JCM as Hedwig again.)
