The Most Happy Fella (2000 Studio Cast) [Box set] [Cast Recording]

Today The Most Happy Fella may not be as well known as Guys and Dolls or How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, but with this lavishly imagined "musical musical" Frank Loesser left us one of the finer nuggets from the golden age of 1950s musical theater. Its story line may not have dated so well, but the show's many-leveled examination of the nature of love and bonding is timeless. Tony is a rich, aging Italian vintner who dupes the object of his affections--the beautiful young Rosabella--into marrying him. And despite Tony's initial deceit, Rosabella eventually does fall in love with him, but not before a sudden romance with Tony's handsome worker Joe leaves her pregnant. As in Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, complications are swept away through the healing power of forgiveness, and the musical ends in the truly classic sense of comedy. For this installment in its Original Masterworks Editions series, JAY Records has pulled out all the stops. This CD presents the first complete recording of Most Happy Fella and includes not only an illustrated booklet with notes but a separate full libretto (also published for the first time): a completist's dream even if you already own the 1956 OBC recording or the fine 1992 revival (economically scaled down for two pianos). There is a considerable amount of underscored dialogue, so listening to the three CDs here really is like a night out, encouraging you to produce the show in the theater of your mind; six bonus tracks make the picture even fuller.
The Most Happy Fella is often described as on the "operatic" spectrum of musical comedy, and this applies as much to the lushly orchestrated, harmonically dense fabric of Loesser's score (intricately performed by London's National Symphony Orchestra) as to the big, juicy vibrato of its vocal style. Completed just before his sudden death, Louis Quilico's performance as the titular lead is warm and big-hearted, full of personality but able to blend in the show's wonderful assembly of ensemble numbers. Loesser's widow Jo Sullivan Loesser (the original Rosabella) makes a special cameo appearance, while daughter Emily Loesser brings to her own Rosabella enough fire and sexual chemistry with Richard Muenz's Joe to help counterbalance the character's sentimental passivity. Love of detail makes many of the smaller roles--such as Tony's sister Marie (played by Nancy Shade)--particularly vivid. It's a rich package for lovers of vintage musical theater. --Thomas May

Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23
THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.
Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14

Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17
If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

A Front Row Seat.......2005-10-23
This is an excellent recording. The most important feature is that, unlike other original cast recordings, it offers almost the entire play -- and that is a considerable accomplishment since this particular production had so much more music than the typical Broadway production.
In addition to the mere fact of being complete, because it is so complete it is possible to follow the plot simply by listening to the musical numbers -- again something very different from most original cast albums.
That is why listening to this dual disc is the next best thing to a frontrow seat in the theater.
Some recordings deserve far more than 5 stars!.......2005-03-24
Surely one of the most brilliant shows ever done on Broadway and I would include such stellar ones a My Fair Lady and Kismet. MHF is a powerful, rousing, joyous show, much beyond the run of most Broadway productions. Loesser was at his absolute top when he put this one together. The scoring was incredible, demanding the absolute most from his singers. (I did this show in stock with Keith Kalldenberg doing Tony.) We used to say that Loesser scored it for high first tenors...then raised it all a third! The brightness of the singing, captured on this recording, is a total delight to the ear. And the incredibly capable cast put all the emotion into the numbers they could possibly have done. This is, to me, a 10 star recording of a 10 star show. You'll listen to it for years...laughing and crying along with everyone else who owns it.
Seriously, the greatest cast recording ever made.......2005-01-18
As I see it, cast albums serve two purposes: to preserve the score and performances for posterity, and to convey a sense of the show's arc and theatricality. Goddard Lieberson's 1956 recording of Frank Loesser's THE MOST HAPPY FELLA does both, and to a degree never seen before and rarely since. This is a very special album because, as previous reviewers have pointed out, it preserves the COMPLETE show, including all the spoken dialogue, dance music, incidental music and underscoring (minus a few moments of stage business that, on recording, would have proved incomprehensible). To be able to hear an entire show, from overture to finale, gives the listener unprecedented access to its plot and characters -- listening to this recording is the next best thing to actually seeing the original production on stage.
And thank goodness, because it's a terrific show. This is one of the best, and biggest, scores ever composed for Broadway -- in three sprawling acts, it tells a tale of pathos, romance and humor, expertly structured and executed, with delicate characterizations and a wonderfully rich vocabulary. Are there any two songs less alike than "Don't Cry" and "Love and Kindness"? or "I Made a Fist" and "How Beautiful the Days"? Yet they exist side by side in THE MOST HAPPY FELLA, all completely integral to the show because, in addition to being great showtunes, they convey plot, reveal character, and define relationships. And everything is unified by Don Walker's beautiful orchestrations. Walker wasn't known for being a very subtle orchestrator (his arrangements of Rodgers and Hart sound, as my friend put it, like heavy metal), but here he works magic and makes Loesser's music soar like Puccini.
The cast, too, is superior in almost every way. Who else but Robert Weede could play Tony, with his huge voice and huge heart? Weede was that rare creature, an opera singer who could actually act, and do both exceedingly well. Who else but Jo Sullivan could play Rosabella, with all that tenderness and hesitation that blossoms into such joy? As Cleo, Susan Johnson will floor you when she belts "I know how it is," then break your heart when she confides that "I don't know how it is." In the hands of a lesser performer the character of Joey could have been just another musical comedy sleazebag -- but somehow Art Lund turns him into a real human being, one you might feel a hint of compassion for, despite all his restless hedonism. The minor characters -- Marie (Mona Paulee), Doc (Keith Kaldenberg), the Postman (Lee Cass), Pasquale (Rico Froehlich) and the rest -- are all brilliantly acted and sung. In fact, one of my favorite moments on this recording is a tiny throwaway scene between a Country Girl and a City Boy (Meri Miller and John Sharpe): it's only a minute long, but it's hilarious and bespeaks the high quality of the ensemble as a whole.
This is a royal score, and it gets the royal treatment on this two-disc set. A lot of "big" Broadway scores never got the same deal, which is why we listen, frustrated, to the eviscerated original cast recordings of ALLEGRO, CANDIDE, FOLLIES... But THE MOST HAPPY FELLA is here to sweep us off our feet, with all its heart and soul intact.
Frank Loesser's moving musical play...with "a lotta music.".......2004-03-06
Someone once asked Frank Loesser if he considered THE MOST HAPPY FELLA an opera. "No," he replied, "it's a musical...with a lotta music!"
And here we have virtually the entire show. (A few visual moments were eliminated since they would not make sense on a recording) All the dialogue, songs, recitative were recorded by Columbia records just weeks after the show opened triumphantly at Broadway's Imperial theatre. It was originally released in two formats: a boxed 3-Lp set of the entire show, and a single Lp of the key musical numbers. While the single Lp was more commonly found, Sony has released the complete recording as a double CD.
It's a vivid, theatrical performance. Robert Weede came from the Metropolitan Opera to play Tony and it is a perfect match of performer with character. Jo Sullivan sings gloriously as his "Rosabella" (and must have impressed the composer: he divorced his wife and married her during the run of the show.) As the heroine's best friend we have Susan Johnson, a performer who never got the attention she deserved. This was one of her few hit shows, as she often gave fantastic performances in flops liek OH! CAPTAIN and WHOOP UP. She retired from the stage and for many years show music fans cherished her few cast album performances for her distinctive belt. Her's was a perfect musical comedy voice.
Loesser combines several musical styles from standard show tunes ("Standin' on the Corner", "Big D") to operatic arias ("Rosabella", "How Beautiful the Days.") There is some spoken dialogue and some recitative. About 80 % of the show is sung.
It's a great chance to sit and listen to an entire performance of the show, undisturbed by late-comers. It's great for long trips in the car too!
the sparkling Frank Loesser masterpiece.......2004-02-10
THE MOST HAPPY FELLA is undoutably composer-lyricist Frank Loesser's masterpiece. Although there would be other big triumphs (GUYS AND DOLLS, HOW TO SUCCEED...) nothing quite matches FELLA for scope, dramatic intensity and sheer brilliance.
Based on THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WANTED by Sidney Howard, the story concerns vineyard owner Tony Esposito (played by opera great Robert Weede). The outstanding supporting cast includes superb belters Jo Sullivan (THE THREEPENNY OPERA) and Susan Johnson (OH, CAPTAIN!); as well as Art Lund, Shorty Long, Mona Paulee, Helon Blount, Lois van Pelt and Lillian Shelby.
The original cast album of MOST HAPPY FELLA was given the grand treatment by Columbia Records (under the inspired guidance of wunderkind producer Goddard Lieberson). The show was recorded, save for a few lines, in its complete state, and released in a lavish 3-LP boxed set complete with a copy of the full-color programme.
Sony Classical have now faithfully reissued this landmark cast album in a great 2-disc set, which will be relished by all fans of this delicious score. Standout numbers include "Ooh, My Feet!", "Somebody, Somewhere" and the rousing "Big D.".
THE MOST HAPPY FELLA enjoyed a successful run of 678 performances yet failed to win any Tony's. It was unfortunate that FELLA opened in the same season as LI'L ABNER and MY FAIR LADY, which both took out all the big awards that year.
THE MOST HAPPY FELLA is one of Broadway's greatest musicals. [SONY S2K 48010]

wonderful production.......2007-07-03
I bought this instead of the fully orchestrated version (on the advice of Amazon reviewers) and I don't regret it. The piano-only accompaniment really allows you to hear the voices and appreciate the fantastic music. This is a wonderful score, with many great performances.
I'm A "Haaappe Fella" After Seein' This-a Show! :o).......2006-10-18
I saw this show at a "neighborhood theater" last weekend. The first song was alittle "depressing" about the "sore toes" of waitresses. I thought I was in for a L O N G evening in the theater. But, the show kept getting better and better until I also "fell" for Tony---even though I'm a guy! If you have a chance to see this show sometime, go see it. I'd even recommend it for kids even with "the pregnancy" aspect of it as long as mom or dad is/are there to "explain" in case there are any questions about the baby to be from the "small fry". OK, the songs are not quite up to Rogers and Hammerstein or Irving Berlin. But, taken on it's own merits, you'll come to "love" Tony and the rest of the cast just like I did! Email: boland7214@aol.
No Orchestra!.......2001-06-20
The cast and their voices are wonderful. But I didn't realize that this CD, fromthe original cast of the revival at Goodspeed, is with piano only. Doesn't give you the full impact of such glorious music. It does, however, show you that the show CAN be done without a full orchestra...in case any community theatres, high schools, or budget-minded companies are looking for a great old book musical with some wonderful music.
BUT, if you're looking for a great CD of the production, I would steer away from this production in favor of one of the others that have the full orchestras accompanying them.

A Most Happy Revival.......2000-05-26
Over thirty years separate the original cast recording and this present release. In bringing this wonderful Loesser show back to the stage, Gerald Gutierrez reduced the accompaniment to two pianos. The reduction provides a much more intimate and clean interpretation when compared to the original album. One wishes a more complete score was provided. However, every track in this current release sparkles! Those familiar with the original album will delight in hearing the rich vocal harmonies more clearly against the lighter background. For example, "Song of a Summer Night" has a charming lilt and delicacy unmatched in the earlier recording. Shortie Long's voice dominates in the always-popular "Standing on the Corner" of the original, but Scott Waara blends his vocal lead with the others to produce a much more satisfying quartet. A superb recording!

Customer Reviews:
Nice performances.......2005-10-08
The music is very enjoyable. I especially liked Doc Severinsen's contribution on a few pieces. Percy Faith is always solid, and this collection is no exception. The Gershwin sounds much better than Most Happy Fella because of the stereo sound compared to mono.
"Gershwin and Loesser musical journeys ~ Percy Faith".......2003-06-04
The greatness of George Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess", can only amplify melody of music can exist without lyric ~ and our legendary composer/arranger performs his "Percy Faith Touch". Mr. Faith was chumping at the bit to do this project ~ with sweeping arrangements and full orchestration that leaves no stone unturned. Highlighting ~ "SUMMERTIME", "I GOT PLENTY O' NUTTIN'", "IT AIN'T NECESSARILY SO", "I LOVES YOU, PORGY", "THERE'S A BOAT THAT'S LEAVIN' SOON" and my favorite of favorites "MY MAN'S GONE NOW", attentive haunting strings with echoing saxophones each musician reaching into the depths of their soul for this one ~ they were George Ockner (violin), Bernie Leighton (piano), "Doc" Severinsen (trumpet), Jimmie Abato (alto sax), Russ Banzer (tenor sax), Terry Snyder (drums), Phil Kraus (mallets), Lucien Schmidt (cello) and Harold Feldman (oboe).
Another well received show was Frank Loesser's "The Most Happy Fella", with some great musical selections that Mr. Faith has given his full attention and the arrangements are exuberant. Such as the opening tracks "THE MOST HAPPY FELLA", "STANDING ON THE CORNER", "ABBONDANZA", "SPOSALIZIO", "FRESNO BEAUTIES" and "BIG D", sure to please all fans of Musicals and Broadway Shows ~ this one has your name on it.
A must have for those rainy afternoons with a good book ~ entire album of twenty-seven selections is simply captivating and highly listenable. Percy Faith is still larger that life and his music will live through us his fans ~ and go on forever.

--Thomas May
Customer Reviews:
A few minor weaknesses fail to mar a magnificent interpretation.......2006-11-28
Before reading this review, read the Amazon review above for a well-written coverage and outline about this release, Frank Loesser's masterpiece.
I come to this recording without any preconceptions as, apart from a few well-known songs, I didn't know this show or any of the other existing recordings. So I hadn't established any favourite interpretations or pre-conceived ideas on how it should be done. However, I do have experience in musical direction/conducting with a range of musicals, and all this allowed me to bring a fresh but musically experienced ear and mind to this recording.
What I heard as I listened to this show was an outstanding performance of a wonderful operetta. I was confused by the sudden significance of Marie at the end, but the deleted songs eplained all. Some of these, at least, should never have been deleted, no matter that the show is long, as their removal damages the dramatic integrity of the show. The recording producers are to be congratulated for including these songs.
Other reviewers have their favourite interpreters of various roles and are a little disappointed that the interpretations here differ from their favourites. I listened to the recording as a totality, and find that it works magnificently both dramatically and musically. A few minor spots of weakness cause no damage to the overall production. Each performer brings a valid and believable interpretation to his/her role in both their acting and singing. Supported by an excellent (large) orchestra and a musical director who clearly understands the material he is working with, I cannot imagine a better total performance. And you must consider the performance in TOTAL and not as an assembly of bits. To say, 'Oh, I would prefer this bit to be done by performer A, and this bit by performer B etc., etc.' is not really valid, because such choices may not necessarily come together successfully as a total cast. This cast DOES come together as a close-knit team in all aspects, including the casting of an operatic soprano among the voices.
In summation, if you want a complete recording of 'The Most Happy Fella', don't hesitate; buy this, despite its cost. You get a wonderful, well-recorded performance, ALL the music written for the show on three well-filled CDs, plus the complete libretto and a second significant booklet filled with interesting information about the show and the recording.
As an addendum, I sent a copy of this recording along with a suggestion that it was time for a new production to the appropriate people in my home-town (Melbourne, Australia, population app. 4 million) and was overjoyed to get a reply that a professional production is going to follow!
A great CD.......2005-12-26
Of course, I guess any full recording of this great score would be worth owning, as long as the cast members aren't completely awful. Of course, it's not the OBCR, but what is? Louis Quillco has a darker timbre than Robert Weede, but that's not a problem. The biggest problem with Quillco's performance is that he fails to delve sufficently into Tony's character arc - this is a man whom we are told is shy and easily intimidated at first, but by the third act's "She's Gonna Go Home With Me," Tony is forceful and commanding. Quillco hit all the right notes of the character, but his choices seem completely seperate. It's like he understands each scene, but not how one leads to another. This doesn't make the ending as powerful as it could be. Emily Loesser, in her mother's role of Rosabella, is quite good, I think. For never having played the character, she seems to coalesce right into this group of actors and she generally finds new and interesting character choices. She doesn't have that powerful lonliness that Jo Sullivan had - her "Somebody Somewhere" doesn't match her mother's at all. But for the rest of the show, I think she does quite nicely, especially after she realizes she loves Tony. Her "Warm All Over" is quite distinctive and very good. Karen Ziemba has been criticized as being too nice as Cleo, but personally, I think this makes Cleo a more human character and less "comic relief." I don't quite understand a few of her choices, but overall, I really like her. She seems to have real chemistry with Don Stephenson, too. Although their "label scene" is, I think, a little too over-the-top. I like Stephenson's Texas twang, and he's committed to the part. "Standing On The Corner" is kind of slow, though, and the harmonies are oddly balanced (the bass part is a lot louder than the melody.)
Now we come to the worst and best cast members. Worst: Richard Muenz. Sorry, I love you, but you are far far far too old for Joe, and you sound it. I really do think that Muenz is terrific in the '79 video, but he sounds like an old man, which really makes a lot of the ending of the first act silly. He used to have a bright, brilliant baritone, and now he quavers on the top notes of "Joey Joey Joey." Not his fault, but they should've used a younger actor. Best: Nancy Shade. She plays Tony's sister Marie, and she is the only cast member on this recording that surpasses the original, Mona Paulee. The liner notes talk about how Marie is often played as an unhappy spinster, and to my ears, Paulee does just that. Also, it's slightly unbelievable to hear her completely American accent contrasting with her "brother"'s heavily accented English. Shade uses a slight accent, but her real triumph is using her desperate love for Tony and her real belief that Rosabella will never love Tony as well as she does. This makes the final confrontation in Act Three powerfully moving.
Of course, Shade has a secret weapon: the bonus tracks. Three of the bonus tracks are cut sequences for Marie that work together to create a fully three-dimensional character. Loesser's original first Tony and Marie sequence, that culminated in "No One Is Ever Going To Love You," is incredible. When I heard it, I immediately went back and listened to it again. And then I did it again. BRILLIANT. That man is brilliant, and that song is brilliant, and this show is brilliant. That 50$-plus CD is worth it alone for that one bonus track. And the CD ends on an up note: Jo Sullivan's recording of "Wanting to be Wanted," the song that "Somebody Somewhere" replaced. "Somebody Somewhere" is a better song, but Jo Sullivan sounds so good for her age! Possibly, even better than she sounded back in the 50s (I always thought she was a bit shrill on the OCR), and her acting is just as amazing now as it was then.
A terrific new recording of a classic show!.......2005-01-09
This is a three-CD set, which contains the entire score of the classic Frank Loesser musical. This recording boasts a superb cast including Emily
Loesser, daughter of Loesser and Jo Sullivan, the original Broadway lead. In Emily's case, talent is certainly hereditary. She shines as Rosabella, supported by an unmatched cast of strong and well-cast singers.
This is the first complete recording of the entire score and it is peerless. Anybody who enjoys the better known Loesser shows, ("Guys and Dolls," "How to Succeed" et al,) should get familiar with this gem of a show,
A delightful recording from beginning to end!
MOST HAPPY FELLA for opera fans.......2001-04-02
Ethan Mordden in one of his books observes that cast albums of performances are better than studio ones because performing the role eight times a week gives the performers a certain elan and comfort that is almost impossible to come up with reading from a score for a one-time performance. This recording is a typical testament to this.
There is nothing outright "wrong" here, and if one had never heard the original cast it would seem magnificent by default, given Loesser's stunning achievement. But overall, there are two problems.
One is that this recording elicits the codger's complaint that they just don't make singers like they used to. Louis Quilico is good enough -- but often fails to support his tone through the line and has a tendency to scrape the high notes. Robert Weede did not have these problems -- although maybe because he was singing the role six times a week. Nancy Slade usefully gives Marie a bit of an Italian accent (Mona Paulee's pure American was technically a little implausible given how her brother talked) and delves into the inner torment of the character, but vocally she is often more forced than Paulee was. Even when singing, Paulee conveyed the same character she spoke in, but Slade's "opera" tone often sacrifices the character she is supposed to be playing. Richard Muenz' voice sits a little low for Joey -- Art Lund was effortless where Muenz has to force it a bit. Emily Loesser is just fine -- but never as creamy and solid as her mother was; but then, few of today's singers are. Is it because I am a singer that I hear these things more than many might? Perhaps, but I doubt I am alone.
Then there is the acting issue. Karen Ziemba alternates between aping Susan Johnson's inflections a little too closely, and more generally doing Cleo as rather generically sweet. But we already have a sweetie in the show, Rosabella, and thus Ziemba's rendition of Cleo as essentially the same character she played in STEEL PIER is rather redundant. Thus this recording lacks the contrast between Sullivan's ingenue and Johnson's brassy soubrette which was essential to musicals of the period. Johnson was truly smashing and rather unique with her broad and vernacular sounding belt -- but there are singers other than ingenue Ziemba who could have essayed a competitive reading (Kim Criswell? Debra Monk?). And Quilico, despite his stature in the opera world, never conveys the Mediterranean warmth that makes Rosabella's falling for him make some kind of sense. Singers get away with this doing the likes of TOSCA and DON GIOVANNI -- opera is about vocal technique above all. But in MOST HAPPY FELLA we need more.
And there are times when Edwards conducts too slowly -- OOH, MY FEET becomes a dirge, STANDIN' ON THE CORNER lopes instead of bouncing. I don't think this is just a matter of being used to the original recording -- the accompaniments to these songs were clearly written with brisker tempos in mind, in my view.
There are high spots. Don Stephenson blows the original Herman out of the water, inflecting the character and his songs with a delightful Texas twang. The crate-labelling scene is delightful. The cut songs are interesting -- the ones limning Marie as a pathetic wretch would have brought the show closer to opera than was perhaps feasible in the 1950s.
But I do not process this recording overall as the gem the other reviewers do. Especially since the original caught almost all of the score, I can't help feeling that it stands as the definitive reading still -- better singing and better acting, and the mono sound was marvelous in spite of itself, especially on CD. Opera fans may cottom to this set more than I do, but for musicals fans this set is basically useful as a reference if you are up to shelling out the money.
BRAVO!.......2000-09-11
Loving Guys and Dolls as much as I do I wanted to familiarize myself with this other Frank Loesser hit. I knew some of the songs (such as Standing on the Corner; Joey, Joey, Joey; and Big "D"), but never in the context of how they pertained to this musical. What a revelation! The story is about how an older vineyard owner deceives a much younger mail-order bride into marriage, with the usual consequences. I found The Most Happy Fella to be both joyous and touching. This new Jay recording possesses wonderful sound and superb singing from the entire cast. The generous libretto that is provided greatly enhances the enjoyment of the music and story. Oh how I wish a film was made of this masterpiece, like what was done for Guys and Dolls. Am I the only person who has observed a similarity between "The Most Happy Fella" and a wonderful 1950's movie called "Wild is the Wind", starring Anna Magnante and Anthony Quinn? HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, 10 STARS!

"Richard Alden", best of the best!.......2006-10-15
I bougth this CD only for the track #8, from my Fair Lady "I've grown accustomed to her face", played, arranged and directed by Richard Alden, the same Ronnie Aldrich. The arrange has a little more rithm than the version of Phase 4 Stereo in "The magic moods of Ronnie Aldrich". It sounds spectacular!
The CDs from Readers Digest have some themes from Ronnie and "Richard Alden", inedits and a treasures for who loves the music of that genius od the piano
The rest of the CD has pretty songs.

Customer Reviews:
Even better than the LIVE recording!.......2001-06-15
I enjoyed this recording even better than their LIVE AT THE MERCURY THEATRE. Great selection of material, great arrangements, and producing. I'm crazy about Susan Moniz and Kathy Santen. These women do Chicago proud!
Excellent Divas!.......2001-06-15
This is a great recording. There is such a wonderful spirit to the LIVE event. The performances are all strong, and are captured well. Special kudos to Hollis Resnick, and the "3 Ingenues 3". The producer of this concert/album is to be commended.
Diva Lovers..........2001-01-16
This collection of 15 songs by some of Chicago's greatest divas is well-worth the purchase. Standouts include Hollis Resnick's "I'll Imagine you a Song" (Lutvak/Hall) and Kathy Taylor's "Losing My Mind" (Sondheim). Cabaret lovers will certainly want to add this to their collection.
