Good ole Judy Blue Eyes has been with us musically almost as long as Aretha and Barbra, though with less regularity and luster. A few years prior to this 1999 recording, she obviously went through some sort of vocal crisis and sounded like hell for a while. But she appears, at least on the basis of this release, to have gone through vocal rehab and come out ahead. It's nice to have her back. To be sure, there are some problems: On "I Can't Get Started," her pitch varies wildly at times, and elsewhere her pure, white, vibratoless, boyish tone can make you a little crazy--take the words "face" and "begin" on "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" for example. In addition, she sounds purposefully detached to a point of catatonia a lot--but, heavens, she makes pretty sounds! She actually sings "Don't Cry for Me..." and makes you not want to throw something, and "Embraceable You" and "My Funny Valentine" are gorgeous. "Younger Than Springtime" is dull, dull, dull, but her famous "Send in the Clowns" is better and better. Jonathan Tunick's arrangements are properly wispy--lots of harp for this soft, sweet singing. Did you like Willie Nelson's Stardust album? Then you'll like this too. --Robert Levine

5 STARS AND THEN SOME !!.......2006-02-10
Oh Julie, the songs you sang on this CD are superb. I wish you could still give us that joy. If you can only sing in the low registers, give us jazz!! You can do it I just know you can!!
Pretty Sad, .......2005-10-27
Hollywood veteran Julie Andrews has had a glorious career, but not without its downsides. Her legend is built on "The Sound of Music" and "Mary Poppins" and other glorious roles. Her abilities as a singer were never impressive or great, her voice often sounded weak, but she always knew how to sing around her very limited vocal range. On this collection she performs some of the greatest Broadway tunes ever written and even though she does a good job, her voice just doesn't hold up against many of these tunes. Her warmth is felt all over the album, in "Here I'll Stay" she wraps her gentle, but narrow, voice around it and in "My Funny Valentine" she sticks to the lower register of her voice. However, in the re-recording of her classic "Sound of Music" and in "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever" her voice fails her, it often sounds thin and airy and it's actually quite sad to listen to. When all is said and done Julie Andrews remains a great talent, and most of that talent is largely due to her amazing capability as a performer and her genuine warmth.
I FELL IN LOVE WITH JULIE ALL OVER AGAIN.......2005-06-25
As a young kid growing up in the Philippines I remember my Dad playing his state-of-the-art Aiwa tape recorder back in the 60s and hearing Julie Andrews' voice - truly the voice of an angel! Now, hearing these songs again with adult ears I fell in love with her voice all over again !
A Great Julie Andrews CD.......2002-01-27
If you are a fan of Dame Julie's and musicals, this is the cd for you. It is a compilation of songs from prevously released albums; The King and I, The Music of Richard Rodgers, Here I'll Stay, and Victor/Victoria, Original Broadway Cast Recording.
I found the material to be very well put together giving the listener selections from My Fair Lady, Camelot, The Sound of Music, Victor/Victoria and others. What more could you want?
As for Ms. Andrews, she is superb. There is simply no one like her. I have heard comments that prior to the infamous throat surgery she was unable to handle the difficult material and hit those high notes. This is just not true. All you have to do is listen to these songs recorded in the early 90's to know that she still had a marvelous voice. Lets hope that one day she will be able to sing and record again. If not, these may be her last recordings so treasure them.
The My Fair Lady suite is wonderful and Ms. Andrews definitely hit the high note at the end of "I Could Have Danced All Night".
Her version of "Edelweiss" and "The Sound of Music" are lovely.
Also worth listening to is "Living in the Shadows" written for the Broadway production of Victor/Victoria so you won't find it on the movie soundtrack. The lyrics are by Leslie Bricusse who also penned "Crazy World", which is another great selection on this cd.
Overall this is a cd worth having in your collection, so buy it today. Otherwise you are missing out.
Climbing Every Mountain with Mary Poppins.......2002-01-22
Julie Andrews and her music have been an inspiration to me
every since I stepped into a theater and watched Mary Poppins
(many years ago). I admire her talent and her voice on this CD. I know it is not as clear a voice as she used to have but I still enjoy listening to her. I listen to this CD when I want a "pick me up" and am proud to have it as part of my collection.

Classy lady.......2006-12-20
I bought this CD because of the beautiful picture on the cover. I've since fallen for Lisa Vroman's fabulous singing on the CD. The orchestrations are first rate. Get it.
Five stars aren't enough.......2005-10-13
This is truly one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. Absolutely clear and articulate, yet with lots of emotional depth. If you enjoy a soprano voice, you'll love Lisa Vroman, you couldn't ask for better.
The lovely Lisa is nothing but dazzling.......2005-02-01
The first time I heard Lisa was when I saw The Phantom of the Opera for the first time in San Fransisco (she played Christine for years)and she was absolutely amazing. Her voice is so incredibly warm and rich and posesses a genuine sweetness that makes you fall in love with her instantly. You will not regret buying this CD--it's a treasure. Also, I feel I must mention Franc D'Ambrosio's new debut album, Franc D'Ambrosio's Broadway, as he amazed me just as much if not more than Lisa in his performance as the Phantom. Franc and Lisa have absolutely amazing voices that go so well together I think it would be a shame to own the album of one and not the other--I think anyone who has seen them together in Phantom would agree. I'm just waiting for the day when they come out with an album of duets!!!! However, the SF cast of Phantom of the Opera has recorded a CD of Christmas songs (it's called Christmas Center Stage) and Lisa and Franc do sing a duet on it! It's a lovely collection and very fun to listen to for those of you who are die hard SF cast phans like myself. Just a suggestion.
Not Much Better Than This..........2004-11-16
If you love Broadway tunes and want to hear them sung by the best voice today, you must have this recording. This simply is as good as it gets. The voice is stunning...and Lisa is as wonderful a person as is her talent.
Lisa Vroman Has The Voice of An Angel!!!!!! SO BEAUTIFUL!!!.......2003-07-12
For all you Broadway and opera lovers out there and even if you are not this cd is a must have!! Lisa Vromans cd is amazing, it does not disappoint. Her song selection is spectacular, with songs like "Think of Me" my personal favorite from her famous role as Christine in Phantom of the Opera. She is as good in the studio as she is live. Her voice is very powerful and she has a beautiful, rich tone. She is a jewel in this industry as she has a very powerful operatic-type voice yet she can sing other broadway material besides "Phantom of the Opera" very well. The orchestrations are well arranged on this album and her voice takes you away into the lovely world of broadway. I love opera a lot too and this album is so great as it brings a touch of opera to classic broadway hits. Her voice effortlessly flows into the high and low registers and is very crisp and though powerful also has a nice peaceful delicate quality to it. Her voice alone is such a gem to have on an album but this cd I think everyone will love as she covers some of broadways best loved songs, I will enjoy this album always. It is a rare gem in my collection and I will cherish it always!! Lisa Vroman's cd "Broadway Classic", will not disappoint it buyers and you will enjoy each song as she brings her own lovely style to old classics. They are so familar yet with her it is like you are hearing for the first time!!

Following the example of many contemporary Broadway singers, Susan Egan (Beauty and the Beast, Triumph of Love) offers a mix of pop songs and show tunes on this solo recording. On the musical-theater side, Egan bravely unearths obscure nuggets (Jerry Herman's "Where in the World Is My Prince," Alan Menken and David Zippel's "I Can't Believe My Heart," from the movie Hercules) and gives them a soothing, laidback reading. Even her natural charm, however, can't alleviate the sugary whimsy of Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich's "Taylor, the Latte Boy" (incomprehensibly, a favorite on the New York cabaret circuit). On the pop side, the clear-voiced Egan offers nice adult-contemporary versions of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" and Cat Stevens's "Oh Very Young." But her warm, no-nonsense style isn't a good fit for Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights," an outsize, demented song that requires a playful sense of drama that Egan lacks. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Susan Egan is a Tony-nominated Broadway star (Beauty and the Beast, Cabaret, Thoroughly Modern Millie) who has made a name for herself in TV (Drew Carey, NYPD Blue), film (13 Going on 30, Hercules, Spirited Away) and recording (over 30 cast albums and soundtracks). Egan is joined by Broadway star Terrence Mann for their first duet since they originated the roles of Beauty and the Beast.

Coffee House cd.......2007-01-12
Of The 2 albums I have just purchased by Susan Egan, this is the best. One can sit down and relax with this beautiful music. I hope she does more of this type of album.
There's something about Susan Egan's voice that just keeps you listeneing!.......2006-11-23
Something about her voice, it's like the perfect combonation of broadway/cabaret style, with a modern, sassy sound! I think part if it is her cool american accent!
Love Susan Egan, love coffee house!
Wonderful!.......2006-05-12
After reading a few reviews on this site, I have come to the conclusion that this is one of the albums where it's you love it or you hate it with no intermediate. It's a fairly simple concept. If you like different renditions of show tunes and pop songs, then go for this, it's beautifully done, Susan's voice is warm and dynamic, and she puts herself into these songs. If you don't like people doing covers, well then, I'd still say listen to some samples because she's that good.
There are many strong pieces in this album, her renditions of "Oh Very Young", "Wurthering Heights" (this song was much more full bodied and appealing than Kate Bush), "Roses", and "Oh How I Loved You" are particularly heart rending.
Addictive.......2005-10-01
This CD is addictive: I cannot take it out of my CD player. I purchased the album because I love Susan's voice, and I knew none of the songs beyond "Both Sides Now." The performances are wonderful, and I think Christopher McGovern's arrangements compliment her quite well and add a lot of beauty on their own. As for the songs I didn't know, I cannot get 'Oh, How I Loved You" out of my head.
True talent, unique singer.......2005-08-01
Susan Egan is an amazing performer, very true to her singing. Wether it's Broadway or her own cd's, she always sings with her heart and soul, perfectly capturing all the emotions in her own distinctive style.
All the songs on "Coffee House" were chosen by Susan herself - the ones she loved, could relate to and honestly wanted to sing. And it really shows, as we can hear a great joy and emotional engagement in Susan's singing - nothing is forced or over the top. She hits every note perfectly and knows how to make the most of her impressively wide vocal range. Song choices really reflect Susan's endearing personality - romantic, passionate, yet hilarious with a great sense of humor. There's no chance to get bored with her music and this album is a perfect choice for any occasion.
Susan is a well-loved and known musical stage performer these days, and her numerous Broadway/Tv/Movie credits just prove her wonderful talent and versatility. If you're tired of plastic pop and pop-idols being produced in masses, just try "Coffee House" and enjoy the natural charm of Susan's beautiful voice singing to the top-notch arrangements. Definitely a must-have!

Album Description
Franc D'Ambrosio, who starred as the legendary masked man in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Tony Award winning musical The Phantom of the Opera for over six years, was honored with the title of the longest running Phantom in the world after bringing more than five million theater goers to their feet over 2,600 times. On Dec. 12th he was a special correspondent for ACCESS HOLLYWOOD on the red carpet at the NYC premiere of Joel Schumacher's film musical The Phantom of the Opera at the Ziegfeld Theater.
You will most likely recall D'Ambrosio from his highly publicized portrayal of Al Pacino's opera singing son, Anthony Corleone, in The Godfather Part III (after an international search lasting more than a year.)

A Broadway Fan and A Figures Skating Fan's Idea of the Longe.......2005-06-04
When I saw Brian Boitano's Skating Spectacular, Franc who seems to be a friend of Brian's Sang while Brian skated. They said that he had played The Phantom longer than anyone else.
Therefore, I bought this CD. When I started listening to the first songs, I could not believe that Franc had played the Phantom. His voice sounded too young. His version of the song from PIPPIN did not sound as good to me as an American Idol Contestant's had. I thought he might be satirizing Broadway.
When I came to song Number 11, my opinion changed. His songs from then on, were great. I have listened to the HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA hundreds of times. I don't think I could tell his MUSIC OF THE NIGHT from Michael Crawford's.
If you would enjoy a quirky version of Broadway songs mixed with really good ones, get this CD. If you want straight Broadway, try Ron Raines.
WHAT LUNGS.......2005-01-31
I saw Franc on his concert tour recently and was very impressed. He has sure got some lungs... I like the fact that in person, he sounds just like the recordings on the CD. I have been collecting Broadway Cds for years now and I have quite the collection. The thing that stands out with Franc's CD is the wonderful range of songs. I especially liked the medeleys and the inclusion of some songs that have been my favorites from shows but never seem to be recorded too often. His vocal range is great as well....and an incredible high light voice. His vocal characteristics are reminiscent of Mandy Patinkin, whom I also really like. I will listen to this one for a long time to come.
Phranc unmasked---at last!!!!.......2005-01-30
I saw Franc for the first time when I was 13 and my parents suprised me one weekend by taking me to see The Phantom of the Opera for the first time in San Fransisco, and I swear my life has never been the same since. Franc was so captivating and soulful in his performance I doubt there was a dry eye in the house---I was awe-stricken. In fact, I was so moved by his perfomance that I dragged my parants back up to SF the very next week to see it again! I was so compelled by the play that I got my hands on any phantom book and music I could find, and the Phantom has been a permanent part of my life ever since. However, I regret that for years I did not think about the man behind the mask---Franc. I had been listening to the origanl London cast album for years because that's the only Phantom recording available, and it didn't even occur to me to look for other recordings Franc might have done until it had been so long that he wasn't playing the role anymore I didn't remember the names of any of the cast members we saw, but after an hour or so of research on the internet I was able to track him down and was thrilled to find out he had just released this album (his debut!) and I bought it without thinking twice. The first half of this album is very lively and fun and you can really hear Franc's energy and charisma, and the second half---all ballads---is stunningly beautiful. Franc sings his heart and lungs out, and his upper register is downright haunting! For anyone who has seen Franc perform, or just loves well-sung show tunes, this CD is a must. The only real draw back to the album is that the first few tracks are medleys so you only get to hear parts of each song instead of the enitre song, but it is still very nicely done and each song leads into the next almost seemlessly. Also, if you are interested in the original SF cast of The Phantom of the Opera, they resently held and recorded a Christmas benifit for AIDS called Crhistmas Center Stage and you can enjoy a variety of Christmas songs peformed by various members of the SF cast! It's a beuatiful CD and very fun to listen to at that time of the year or year-round! Now, one last suggestion: if you like broadway songs, a great companion to Franc's CD is Lisa Vroman's Broadway album (I think it's called Classic Broadway). Lisa played the Phantom's beloved Christine with Franc for years and both of their voices are truly stunning and extremely enjoyable to listen to.

Customer Reviews:
Let It Happen!.......2004-11-16
Judy Collins' voice has one of the most crystal clear vocal qualities of any singer. She sounds delightfully resonant on this "Classic Broadway" release. My favorite is the "My Fair Lady" classic "I've Grown Accustomed to His Face." Judy soars over the delightfully wistful orchestra, punctuated by the lovely clarinet. On "Till There Was You" from "The Music Man," Judy melts into the lyric and seems to soar on the wings of love. "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" is given a lovely reading on the Tim Rice/Andrew Lloyd Webber tune from "Evita," "I had to let it happen, I had to change." This is a delightful set of great Broadway classics done by one our best singers! Enjoy!
Classic Collins!.......2003-01-11
What is so pleasing about this CD is that Ms. Collins has matured so gracefully. Of course she doesn't sing quite like she did thirty years ago, but her voice is still beautiful. Unlike many of the rock singers of her generation, she probably will not die of cardiac arrest while gyrating and jumping on stage.
Ms. Collins begins this CD with a beautiful arrangement of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina"-- this much recorded piece sounds fresh and new when Judy sings it-- and ends with "Send In The Clowns," surely the most popular version of the Sondheim classic. In between there's music by Gershwin, Rodgers and Hart, Lerner and Loewe, Irving Berlin et al.
Theses Broadway songs are a pleasant addition to Ms. Collins' repertoire. Certainly this is a CD worth having.
A Delightful Surprise.......2000-01-27
Stumbled upon this CD very recently and wondered how I missed the September release of such a gem. A collection of truly classic Broadway melodies delivered enchantingly. Stand-outs include one of the best versions of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" I have ever heard, an affecting "How Are Things In Glocca Morra?" and an "I've Grown Accustomed To His Face" that warms the heart. Apparently, not much, if any, promotion for this album, and that is a shame. Miss Collins' voice is in fine form, and she does a terrific job with some wonderful songs. She deserves better. This is an album you would not regret buying.
A beautiful collection, sensitively interpreted!.......1999-11-19
JUDY COLLINS, has a remarkable career, and has shown the highest degree of good taste in choosing songs, and thematic albums to commit her enormous talents to, this one is no exception. Her sensitive, unique performances of many Broadway standards, brings each and every piece to life again, with a new twist, solely her own! Especialy moving is the song, "Don't Cry For me Argentina," which has been done repeatedly, but here, it has a new horn section, one that brings yet a new demension out of a song, where it seemed there were no new emotions to wring out of a well-visited piece of music. Leave it to Judy to find a new "twist" to a familiar piece of music. Another gem, is "How Are Things In Glocca Morra?" A song, unlike, "Argentina," that has hardly been covered at all! Bravo, Judy, for this musical treat!

This is my favorite CD!.......2003-06-07
I am a fan of old movies and musicals. When I saw this CD, I knew I just had to have it. The music is superb and makes you feel as if you are back in time. Also, the quality is excellent. I would reccomend this CD to any old movie fan or piano lover. Excellent!
If you do not like player piano tunes, beware of this CD.......1999-02-04
I did not realize this CD contains player piano tunes. If the rest of the title had appeared online, I would have reconsidered. After listening to a few, they tend to sound alike.

PORTER GETTING THE RAGTIME TREATMENT.......2003-12-16
Piano rolls are a matter of taste.I can spend hours listening to them, but i know many people get tired after a few minutes. This is a record one can play over and over again. If the whole collection has the same clean sound,i just hope that all the composers will be featured. Each piano player gets a little fancy with the tunes, but that's why it's so enjoyable. What a difference between the intellectual jazzy approach in the jazz piano essentials collection which i personnaly hate and this,a recording done for pure listening pleasure. My only problem is that my father stole it from me.Oh well!i'll get another copy.
