4 out of 5 stars Great soundtrack collection.......2007-02-12

Fans of Eric Serra already know he's done a massive ammount of soundtrack work in french films. People who are new to his music would be surprised by how many of the songs on this album they know already. Most especially if they enjoyed the blockbuster film the Fifth Element.

5 out of 5 stars La Musique des Films...C'est super!.......2001-01-30

An ideal compilation of Eric Serra's soundtrack work for those who are keen on Eric Serra's style but don't know what album to choose. La Musique des Films basically means The Music of The Films or The Soundtracks and some of the movie titles are in french also but the lyrics to the songs are all in English. This 20 track album contains at least two or more tracks from 9 of the movies he has worked on. His latest 'Joan Of Arc' is not included however, but the hugely popular 'Fifth Element' is, with a wild bonus 'cosmos mix' of the Diva Dance not on the original soundtrack. From the 'Big Blue' to the futuristic sounds of 'The Fifth Element' this is a soundtrack compilation that will have you wanting more! An absolute must have for any music fan who is in the mood for something a little crazy and a little different.

4 out of 5 stars Selective Sounds.......2000-08-29

While it's a good representation of his soundtrack work for films, it is not his best work. To get the whole picture one needs to actually listen to the individual soundtracks. Each soundtrack has the Serra trademark sound yet each work has its own special quality or uniqueness. Serra is able to go from pop, jazz, classical to rock and some faint funk or R&B. Whether it's due to his European background or not he gives the listener very diverse cultural/global material as well. His goal is always to evoke not just an atmosphere but emotions; It works. He does his job and does it extremely well. For example, his two tracks from The Fifth Element featured in this collection are only a tip of le grande iceberg. The rest of the actual soundtrack is a melting pot dreamscape of musical styles ! La Femme Nikita is a haunting and brooding soundtrack with a brilliant touch of a rebellious flare !

This collection is recommended for a good start for those unfamiliar with Serra's work...

5 out of 5 stars One stop for Serra's sountracks!.......1999-03-24

If you want to listen it's Only Mistery, from Subway, or listen any other soundtracks highlights (The Professional, Big Blue, GoldenEye), this is your chance! Eric Serra shows us how to really feel a movie, how to interact with them. A good choice for every moment!
