Lerner in Love: The Lyrics of Alan Jay Lerner
Editorial Reviews
Album Description
"Ought to establish Ms. Brussell as a singer and storyteller ready to join the dozen or so performers on cabarets top rung." - NEW YORK TIMES "Ms. Brussell gives every tune a unique spin, distilling the essence of lifes changing seasons. She is real, she is tender, she is wacky." -NEW YORK OBSERVER
"Cabaret singer Barbara Brussell looks like a composite of the great Hollywood blondes, from Harlowe and Monroe to Goldie Hawn. And in her heart-tugging roller coaster of a show, shes everything those women are onscreen: childlike, desperate, flirty, madcap, sad..." - TIME OUT NEW YORK
Selected love songs by Alan Jay Lerner, one of the greatest lyricists of the American Musical Theater, in a program of finely crafted, heartfelt lyrics, music and vocals. Barbara Brussell is a passionate singer with a voice that recalls the likes of Bernadette Peters and Betty Buckley. Combines rare and lesser-known gems with familiar pop classics and some of the greatest songs ever written for the American musical stage and screen (including tunes from My Fair Lady, Camelot, Brigadoon and more).

Shimmering.......2005-12-11
Barbara Brussell is thrilling. Her voice is a sky-wide rainbow of color. Her interpretations are smart and deep, but laced with an almost girlish sparkle and wit. Her affinity for Alan Jay Lerner is magical. She clearly believes -- and understands -- every word. This album is a treasure for any fan of cabaret, Broadway or just plain great singing.
