London's premier theater diva takes center stage in Encore, a career retrospective covering selections from Elaine Paige's most famous roles (Cats, Evita, and Chess), her 1993 salute to legendary chanteuse Edith Piaf, and West End hits Jesus Christ Superstar and Les Misérables. Released in 1995 around the time she took the role of Norma Desmond in London (which she eventually took to Broadway), the 53-minute album also includes three of Sunset Boulevard's biggest hits as well as two selections ("I Dreamed a Dream," "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina") recorded live for BBC Radio in 1993. For those more used to Paige's brassier American counterparts, this is an excellent introduction. Fans, of course, will need no convincing to pick up this CD. --David Horiuchi --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

5 out of 5 stars Encore: The Very Best of Rod Stewart, Vol. 2.......2007-03-21

This is a great cd. The music is quality Rod Stewart at his best. I have enjoyed it very much!! A great buy!!

5 out of 5 stars Even Better Than Volume One.......2005-03-06

Anyone knows that one disc can't possibly hold all of Rod Stewart's best songs, so naturally a second volume will have to be made. "Encore: The Very Best Of - Vol. 2" adds 18 Stewart classics not found on 2001's "The Very Best Of Rod Stewart". This disc has some great stuff on it, and is actually slightly better than the first volume.

"Encore" features pretty much every significant hit not featured on the first volume, from the soulful "The Motown Song" to the turbo charged rocker "Lost In You" to the new wave synth pop chugger "Baby Jane" to the somber " I Was Only Joking", you will find that you will love every song on this cd (even the much criticized "Love Touch" (which is one of my all time favorites). This set is also notable for inckuding Rod's popular on radio but otherwise hard to find cover of Carole King's "So Far Away" and "Don't Come Around Here" from 2001's "Human". Plus, anyone who's only familliar with Sheryl Crow's version of "The First Cut Is The Deepest" should really listen to Rod's version. It's truly better.

An added bonus to this disc is a booklet with commentary on each track and how it came into being, given to to you by none other than Rod. A great collection of Rod's music. Get this one as well as volume one.

5 out of 5 stars Better than Volume 1 or that Greatest Hits! .......2005-01-10

I liked that he put out a second album of his greatest hits on Warner Bros. And clever since he's finishing out his contract with them because he's on J now. But this album has songs he left out on the first one. I like that Crazy About Her is on here, for I played that the most from Out of Order! Very big sound on it! Infatuation I still love. And Passion is another solid song on here. There are some bluesy numbers, some soul-driven numbers and rockers here too. I loved his version of That's What Friends are For, even if Dionne Warwick's version was a big hit in late '85. It's kind of mixed up, not in chronological order, but the songs blend well. Stewart may be on this standards thing now, but pop/rock is what he can do the best and he should go back to it for his next album. This album just demonstrates his many talents as a singer and artist.

5 out of 5 stars More Classics From Rock's Spanner In The Works.......2004-11-02

Rod Stewart is a singer whose appeal has probably outlasted anyone in rock and roll with the exception the Beatles, the Stones and Elvis. He is adored by millions young and old. He has been named a perosnal favorite singer by every singer, from Elton John to Lindsay Lohan. Plus, he had an incredible run of hits between 1971 and 1998: 35 top 40 singles, 14 top 10 hits, 3 number one records (including one that was on top for 8 weeks). "Voice - The Very Best Of Rod Stewart" featured 16 of those hits. It had all his most memorable work on just one disc. It was excellent, but there was something missing. That missing void was filled with "Encore: Very Best Of 2".

This cd includes most of those remaining hits, including "Love Touch" (don't tell me anything bad about this song, because I love it), "Crazy About Her", "Passion", and the uplifting "The Motown Song". Also included is a vast number of underrated songs like "Broken Arrow", his original version "That's What Friends Are For" (not as good as Dionne Warwick's version, but it's still good), "I Don't Want To Talk About It", and "I Was Only Joking". Fans may miss "Handbags And Gladrags" and "The Killing Of Georgie Pts. 1 and 2", but that's a matter of opinion.

Get this and "Voice", and you're well on your way to owning all of Rod Stewart's best cds. Also pick up "Gasoline Alley", "Every Picture Tells A Story", "Out Of Order" and "Vagabond Heart", all great albums. Oh yeah, and the 3 "Great American Songbook" cds. They show how versatile the Rodmeister really is.

5 out of 5 stars An awesome return from a great talent..........2007-07-04

DJ Encore's newest album "Unique" is a great follow up to "Intuition." There is a good selection of dancible songs along with some slower songs that show a different side of Encore. The vocals are good, but I do miss Engelina who provides background vocals on the album. All and all, a great album with great music, and awesome lyrics...

5 out of 5 stars encore does it encore!!!.......2007-06-27

I am a big fan of encore. Intuition is one of the best albums around, period. Unique is not as great as intuition, but it Is almost up there. Encore has good taste and he figured that johanna's voice is not a best fit for music like that of intuition. Instead, he created what is a perfect fit for johanna's sensuality and warm voice. I bought the album. I listen to it everyday and I recommend it to anyone who appreciates bands like Lasgo, which I do. There are fast and slow tunes on this album, but all in good taste. The slow songs go well with johanna's voice. The best song on this album in my opinion is "sweater than beauty". It would be a shame if this song did not make it up the charts. Expect a video for it.

Other great tracks:
Point of no return
You make me feel alive
Walk on water
Falling

The other tracks are also good.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, But its not like Intuition!.......2007-05-31

I love this album, but don't expect it to be like Intuition because its not! DJ Encore seems to be following the trend of other trance artists like Ian Van Dahl and Lasgo to do more commercial albums. There is a different version of "out there' on this that is almost unrecognizable from the original and samples Miami Sound Machines - Dr Beat!!! This great album needs a few listen to be appreciated.

4 out of 5 stars Anyone Ever Heard of the group Da Buzz....?.......2007-05-26

Because evidently DJ Encore has. Every single song sounds like it is off of a "Da Buzz" album. The new vocalist sounds EXACTLY like Annika from "Da Buzz." You can actually sing the words to some of their songs to the music of the new DJ Encore disc. Not that this is a bad thing, because "Da Buzz" is one of the greatest dance-pop groups ever assembled, and I think DJ Encore may be a fan. To his credit, he has come up with a set of beats that are a little more modern than the last record, but the first reviewer was correct, too many ballads here. If you love this disc, check out the album "Alive" by Da Buzz. It is better than anything that even the ethereal Madonna has ever released. As for DJ Encore, he has mad talent, and should not wait five years to share it with us again.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Return of Andreas with new vocalist, Johanna!!!.......2007-05-18

Dj Encore (aka: Andreas Hemmeth) has done it again. Since his amazing debut, "Intuition" released in 2001 (Import) and 2002 (Domestically)with vocalist Engelina, fans of his have been eagerly awaiting a follow-up album. Now 2007 Andreas has released "Unique", a worthy and incredibly produced follow-up. This time around he lends beautifully sung vocals from Johanna. Every song is unique and gives a special meaning of life. Just listen to the words, listen to the beats, and let the melody and sound fill your soul. This is the best album of 2007! Hands Down!!! PICK UP A COPY OR TWO! :)

Following up on the release of his debut CD, The Voice, Russell Watson is back with Encore, another mix of opera favorites and popular songs. By now Watson has become virtually a household name--he sells out large concert venues and remains on the top-seller charts. On Encore, we find Puccini and Verdi sharing the billing with Lulu and Lionel Ritchie on the CD's 16 tracks, which range from the much-loved Bach-Gounod "Ave Maria" to "Where My Heart Will Take Me," the theme for Enterprise (the latest Star Trek TV series). Indeed, a more fitting title might have been The Voices, since Watson explores opera, sacred works, film, television themes, and pop songs. The orchestral arrangements on tracks such as "Va, Pensiero" may not win him any fans from the opera contingency, but Watson reveals a captivating sound on pop ballads, including "You Are So Beautiful" and "Somewhere." If you enjoyed The Voice, you're certain to want an encore. --Rebecca Agnew

5 out of 5 stars awsome CD.......2007-06-09

This CD is overall a wonderful sellection of music. I bought it for the one song and have enjoyed all of the songs on the CD.

4 out of 5 stars Versatile Singer.......2007-03-30

Russell Watson has an incredible voice range & a very versatile singer. He even made me appreciate opera!

5 out of 5 stars il divo ancora music.......2006-11-10

The book is wonderful. I love playing their music, its so great. Worth the money, no doubt.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing..........2006-05-05

Russell Watson is amazing. It is truly a delight to hear him sing both the pop and the arias, for he performs both equally well. His rendition of Volare is very fun, and when he sings Somewhere, it's simply breathtaking. His duet with Lionel Richie was also splendid. They really did sound fantastic together. The two low points for me were The Prayer, because I couldn't stand Russell's duet partner, Lulu, and Don't Know How I Got By, because the song just didn't seem to suit Russell's voice. However, the other tracks more than make up for those few inferior selections. Russell Watson truly is a talented man, and I highly recommend this album.

3 out of 5 stars His wrost CD.......2005-01-12

I have all 4 of Russell's Cd's and this is by far his wrose.
The Classical stuff is great but The pop stuff is some of the wrose pop stuff he has even done.

There's a plethora of single-disc Caruso collections, but this one's the preferred choice for opera fans who treasure this golden- voiced epitome of Golden Age singing. It's a Greatest Hits collection to beat all Greatest Hits collections. Selections span Caruso's career, from the lyric effusions of 1906-7 to the darker-voiced later recordings, including one of his last records, the 1920 La Juive aria, "Rachel, quand du Seigneur," which he invests with a heartbreaking poignancy that hasn't been bettered. Caruso shines brightest in the Italian repertory, capturing the pathos of Vesti la Giubba, the insouciance of the Duke's Rigoletto arias, and the hero's dilemma in Celeste Aida, among much else. But everything here is wonderful--great music, great singing. --Dan Davis

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great to hear the Great Tenor.......2007-04-11

I am impressed how well these almost 100 year old recordings have been transfered to CD. Of course they aren't perfect but considering their age it is still a miracle. It is nice to hear Caruso in his prime and not on a scratchy vinyl. I would recommend this to any lover of Caruso's singing.

5 out of 5 stars A childhood memory.......2006-05-28

I do not really know Opera. I am writing this review because I remember hearing Caruso's voice coming from a seventy- eight on an old Victor gramophone in my paternal grandparents house. The power and lyric quality of the voice struck me so strongly especially in 'Pagliacci'. The phrase has been with me, and comes back occasionally through all the years.
Caruso was then, and I believe still is considered at the very top of operatic singers. And it is a remarkable experience to hear so many years later , and in a stronger and clearer way sounds which one heard long ago in childhood, and have for years only lived in the mind.

5 out of 5 stars Great collection........2000-11-04

This CD is an older RCA release, but still one of the best! A great introduction to Caruso.

Eminem's fourth album offers few surprises, but still enough pleasures to carry the day. As evinced by Em's pre-election, pro-voting "Mosh," this is not exactly the same Eminem who seemingly crapped on anything and everything. Encore finds a surprisingly mature Eminem waxing reflective about his battle with Benzino ("Like Toy Soldiers") rather than unloading both barrels. However, it's not all elder statesmanship: "Puke" goes after his ex-wife Kim with incredible scorn, and "Big Weenie" showcases the familiar juvenile humor that made him famous. If Encore has a clear weakness, it's the bland production--the same plodding sound that he and Dr. Dre cooked up on the previous three albums. The exotic flavor of "Ass Like That" catches the ear, but many others run off the same monotonous minor-key melodies and tempos. Of course, people buy Eminem albums to hear him spit first and foremost, and in that regard few fans will be disappointed by Encore; it'd just be nice to see him switch up his sound at some point. --Oliver Wang

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Eminem gets stranger than usual........2007-07-04

Regular album : 2.5 stars
Bonus disc : 4 stars

Eminem has always been an acquired taste. He always aims to offend and usually he is successful and writes one damn good song at the same time. But this was the first album that he fell short on one of these tasks. And it's the wrong one to be unsuccessful with, most of the songs and beats are forgettable and not up to Eminem's high standards. Maybe it was cause the five years before he had released three albums that were ground breaking plus a very good D12 album. Or maybe he was working on his label and becoming a business man. Or maybe he was just burnt out on the celebrity game (when a chump like Ja Rule is trying to play you there's got to be a point when you say, "Why do I even have to write this battle track for this fool?").

Whatever the reason, Encore seems distracted. Not that there aren't some hot tracks. Never Enough is probably the standout on the album. You can blast this in the car but beware cuz you might be doing 80 before you even realize it.

What it comes down to is, for an Eminem fan this is essential but for a fair weather fan you might want to pick up something else. Or for someone who just picked up Chronic 2001 and wants to hear some Eminem songs that weren't played out on MTV, this ain't the place. Pick up Marshall Mathers LP or Slim Shady LP.

If you are a hardcore fan, make sure you pick up the two disc. The three tracks on the bonus disc are better than the entire album. They're remarkably similar to MM LP or When I'm Gone from Curtain Call.

Cool songs . . .
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Mockingbird, Like Toy Soldiers, One Shot 2 Shot, We As Americans, Love You More, Ricky Ticky Tock, and of course, Never Enough.

1 out of 5 stars Eminem's Nemisis.......2007-04-07

Behold, the inevitable downfall of Eminem. There are two major reasons why this album sucked:

1. The beats suck. The only songs that have a decent beat are Like Toy Soldiers and Mosh. And the only reason Like Toy Soldiers became popular is because of the catchy chorus which is just a sample of an old song called Toy Soldiers by Martika. Apart from those two songs, the beats on the other songs are pretty lame. I mean, in Rain Man, the beat consists of just 3 chords.

2. He ran out of things to say. This is what made his downfall so inevitable. If you look through his previous 3 albums, most of his songs have one of the following six song meanings:

- My mother is a b***h and I am going to kill her.
- My ex-girlfriend, Kim, is a b***h and I am going to kill her.
- I have an alter-ego called Slim Shady and he is a psychopath who doesn't care what people think of him.
- Woe is me for I am being persecuted by the media (even though this is the sort of reaction I wanted from them when I wrote the controversial lyrics because the controversy gives me free publicity and makes my young fans feel that they are rebelling against their parents and authority when they buy my albums, increasing my records sales and making me even richer, plus giving me something else to whine about).
- Radio friendly single with humourous lyrics that take shots at celebrities that I release for each album debut to gain radioplay and appeal to stupid pop fans with a short attention span (My Name Is, The Real Slim Shady, Without Me and Just Lose It).
- I have a daughter.

Eminem has been milking those 6 themes for his whole career. Yes, I am aware that he does have songs that do not fit into those six categories (eg. Stan, Mosh, Guilty Conscience). But the majority of his songs do. All his previous albums revolve around these themes. It was inevitable that he would eventually run out of things to say. I mean, how many times could he rap about killing his mother, killing his ex-girlfriend and Slim Shady before people lost interest? His first 3 albums had completely milked those themes for what they're worth, and due to his inability to think of anything else, he just ends up writing a bunch of silly, immature, incoherent lyrics with no meaning whatsoever. He seems to be more interested in immitating bodily noises than actually writing some decent lyrics. On top of that, his radio-friendly single (Just Lose It), as well as being about the same subject as all the other ones, sucked musically as well as lyrically. How brave of Eminem to do what every other celebrity and comedian has done in the past few years (make fun of Michael Jackson). There's a reason why Eminem quit after this album. And don't believe him when he says it's because he's sick of the fame, it's because he's run out of things to write about.

This is the sad legacy of Eminem. An artist whose lyrics revolve so much around present events, particularly what is currently happening in his life, that they quickly become irrelevant within a few years. I mean, who cares about his criticism of Moby and boy bands (Without Me) now that their 15 minutes of fame are up? Who is going to care about his shots at other rappers and Michael Jackson when they are gone from the spotlight? Who still cares about his hatred of his mother and his relationship with Kim? Or how he's moving out of Hollywood (Say Goodbye to Hollywood) or his beef with Murder Inc (Like Toy Soldiers)? These songs become out of date within a mere 2 years after his album is released. The only songs that could possibly be relevant within 10 years are Lose Yourself and Stan.

People say that the Slim Shady LP and the Marshal Mathers LP are some of the best albums ever made, yet how many people still listen to them? I mean, going back and listening to them now, they just sound so bland and dated, and his voice just sounds annoying.

Eminem has no lasting appeal. He was fresh when he first came out, creating a buzz with his unique style and controversial lyrics, but his reliance on a few themes has lead him to a dead end. From the release of his second album, any old monkey could realise that his career would be short-lived. Eminem had potential, but his egocentric lyrics that relied on references to what was popular at the time, made him just another fad with no lasting appeal. Now his 15 minutes of fame are up, his fans have grown up, MTV and pop listeners will move onto the next fad and no one will remember him in 10 years time.

2 out of 5 stars Where did Eminem go.......2007-04-04

A large shift in eminem's flow resulted in a dissapointing album. He reached his peak with the Eminem Show, but this album shows signs of a downfall. His rhyming style seems different and not as solid as before. This album was hard to get into and cannot be taken as seriously as the previous three. Some songs are decent , never enough, like toy soldiers, just lose it, and mosh being the best. After listening to this album one can only hope that shady makes atleast one more album that displays the talents of the old eminem.

3 out of 5 stars Sorry.......2007-03-30

I'm not feeling this album the 3rd was the best because he let himself go. This 4th album is too much of a joke get Jeff Foxworthy instead.

5 out of 5 stars Breathtaking Album.......2007-01-26

This'll probably be one of my shorter reviews mainly because I love this album, and there's little more that I can add to that. This is Jazz Samba Encore, this time featuring Stan Getz and Luiz Bonfa (Orfeu Negro, Luiz Bonfa Sings & Plays, etc.). Also featured here is Maria Toledo, Luiz Bonfa's then wife (I'm not sure if they are still married).

This is an amazing album, and a must have. The music is wonderful... very gentle, extremely clear, and very sincere. Featured here is a haunting version of "Sambalero" to open up the gentle adventure followed by 10 more incredible tracks. Gentle sax, perfect marriage between his tone and Luiz Bonfa's guitar. The music evokes an image, and the timing and musicianship grabs me every time I listen to this. While I loved every song on this, there were others that are absolute staples to me: "Insensatez", "Samba De Duas Notas", "Menina Flor", "Um Abraco No Getz", and "Ebony Samba".

If you are a bossa nova fan, you will certainly want to get this if you don't already own it. It's stunning. And if you do like this, you also want to check out "Getz/Gilberto", "Jazz Samba", "Getz/Almeida" to name but a few. You may also like music by Bud Shank with Laurindo Almeida.

5 out of 5 stars Another strong bossa nova release from Getz.......2007-01-07

Jazz Samba Encore was the third album in a series of four releases of bossa nova music on the Verve label, all of them featuring Stan Getz playing the songs of Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfa. This album is mainly a collaboration between Getz and Bonfa, and although the latter composer dominates proceedings, three of Jobim's songs are included, as well as his accompaniment on both guitar and piano on some of the tracks.

Not only is Bonfa a great songwriter, he is also an accomplished guitarist as he demonstrates on so many of the tracks here. His playing has a crisp and at times urgent feel on the faster numbers. Surprisingly, his most famous composition, Manha De Carnival was not included on the album. Also, Jobim's song Corcovado was present on the original LP as an instrumental, but is omitted from the CD. Instead we get a double take of Ebony Samba, one of the highlights of the album, so all is not lost.

As for the music, as one would expect it is just wonderful. It is rather different in feel and presentation to its purely instrumental predecessor, Jazz Samba, with JSE generally having a lighter and more joyous tone overall, but no less captivating. There is also the presence of Brazilian vocalist Maria Toledo. She tends to use her voice more as an instrument rather than the singing of lyrics. And with a slight echo added this gives an unusual haunting quality to some of these tracks. However, she does get to sing at least a full verse on one or 2 tracks, and one such example is Insensatez, one of the few melancholic songs included. The way this is performed is simply sublime, and worth the money of the CD alone. The great Stan Getz, of course is in excellent form as he was on Jazz Samba, and his sense of timing and use of phrasing is as immaculate as ever.

Although there were no huge hits from this album, unlike the case with Jazz Samba (Desifinado) and Getz/Gilberto (Girl From Ipenema), that does not render Jazz Samba Encore any less substantial as a musical project. If you liked the other two albums mentioned, you should certainly enjoy this one.

5 out of 5 stars Great Jazz Samba Encore!.......2006-03-10

This CD is just exceptionally good. It has a great mix of jazz samba in the same vein as the cd that precedes it. A great vibe for listening to and small chit chat or great for studying to.

This is just what the title implies. ENCORE. Great Jazz Samba music for listening.

5 out of 5 stars Magical Mystery Tour.......2002-11-03

A fella from Madrid (I'm above 13 years):
I think Sgt. Peppers; Ziggy Stardust, ............and Jazz Samba Encore! are a must have. Luiz Bonfa's solos takes your heart and Getz fills all the amazing space. Smoke something, fix yourself a drink and
enjoy the Magical Mystery Tour.

5 out of 5 stars A great collection of klezmer favorites!.......2006-09-30

Premiere violinist Itzhak Perlman is joined live in concert by four premiere klezmer groups: Brave Old World, The Klezmatics, Andy Statman, and the Klezmer Conservatory Band. Vibrant, poignant and distinctly old-world, klezmer is the musical style that developed among Eastern European Jews. Featuring the soulful fire of violin, clarinet, accordion, mandolin and vocal leads, accompanied by cimbalom (a hammered-dulcimer), piano, drums. There are a few soulful slow tunes mixed in amongst the fiery dances, but most of the selections on "Live in the Fiddler's House" are fun and up tempo, full of the instrumental virtuosity one would expect both of this genre, and of a concert violinist of Itzhak Perlman caliber. Klezmer is some of the world's best good-time music, right up there with Irish jigs, Cajun two-steps and country banjo pickin'. But it's not all sweetness and light; inherent in the mournful, minor mode of this traditional music is blend of opposites--both the sorrow of persecution and defiant sense of fun-in-the-moment inherent of a culture displaced, trying to maintain its identity in an ever-changing and often hostile world. And therein lies klezmer's appeal to the soul. For more great Jewish music, try any of the separate releases by Brave Old World, The Klezmatics, Andy Statman and his band, and the Klezmer Conservatory Band. You might also enjoy "The Hidden Gate: Jewish Music Around the World," the traditional Sephardic music of the group Voice of the Turtle, and the unplugged world fusion of Basya Schechter and Pharoah's Daughter in "Out of the Reeds."

5 out of 5 stars Best Klezmer album.......2004-11-16

To me, this is the best klezmer album I've ever listened to (and I have quite a few). And it's a live album. Although it's a kind of live version of "In the Fiddler's House", the repertoire is not the same (they only share one or two songs). The bands accompanying Itzhak Perlman are at their best (they are the best klezmer performers!). I prefer, personally, Andy Statman's clarinet and mandolin (Andy's Ride and Meron Nign/In the Sukke are my favorites); then there are great moments with Brave Old World (Doina Naftule and A Hora mit Branfn are beautiful pieces) and the Klezmatics, of course. The 12 minute finale is an absolute well crafted medley, under Klezmer Conservatory Band's leader, Hankus Netsky. I did'n want it to end.
I don't like at all the women voices of Klezmer Conservatory Band, although the instrumental pieces (like Khosidl) are amazing.
There is not a second in this album which is not top klezmer.

5 out of 5 stars This was a fun C.D........1999-01-16

For people who are into Klezmer music this is the finest C.D.! For Klezmer music lovers, this is a masterpiece.

5 out of 5 stars Sensuality Personified!.......2005-04-27

This is one of the best collections of Regine Crespin. Of course, her Berlioz/Ravel set with Ansermet is definitive, but the beauty and soft womanliness of her voice can be heard in all the selections on this disc. The engineers went for her vocal best and they created a fine collection aptly titled "The Best of..." One would be unduly captious to find Crespin "brittle" of tone here.

It is by now, very difficult to imagine anyone singing "Il est doux" with more apt expression of the line than La Crespin. Wagner's Wesendonk lieder is simply sublime from start to finish and the Faure takes on new meaning. That she is comical, melancholy, fun and happy by turns singles her out. This collection captures all her awesome talent. Underneath it all seems to be a very, if I may, sexual energy.

Crespin must be heard to be believed and the miracle lies in that even her softest tones are really enveloping, never thin. All tones are open and this is why there are enough colors in Regine Crespin's delicious voice to paint the world a thousand times, but it may also be why she infamous for being short and edgy on top but I remind, never here is she such. She is a relaxed singer in superb voice, comfortable in her own olive skin and makes the most out of every word those poets wrote.

The whole collection is unique in pace, style, and voice. It is Regine Crespin...in a nutshell fabulous!

There's one way to describe this album...ecstacy...without the need for substance abuse. Play this disc start to finish. It's serene.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best Trance Albums Ever.......2007-03-30

This album is perhaps the best pop vocal trance album ever, with the others being Ian Van Dahl's "Lost and Found," Alice Deejay's "Who Needs Guitars Anyway," and 4 Strings "Believe." There is no filler here, almost every single track has an amazing hook and beat. Unlike most trance albums, the lyrics are actually really good and the songs don't all sound alike. As a matter of fact, each song is somewhat different. This album is proof to the naysayers who claim that trance music is not art. This is a gem of an album, and look for the follow-up "Unique" in May 2007!

Give me DJ Encore's and Engelina's "Intuition", one of the best, if not the best, vocal trance album ever.

I'm completely amazed with this album. The lyrics are just awesome, easy to listen to, understandable; it's pure music, and music of the one I hadn't heard for some time. Engelina's breathtaking voice and Encore's magnificent performance as a DJ is, without doubt, what makes this CD a success, a masterpiece. All the songs are tremendous, making it easy to fall into the lyric and follow the stream of words without skipping any song. To you readers, and fans, the only thing I can say is: Buy this album; you will not regret giving it a try, guaranteed.

5 out of 5 stars A treasure of the musical world........2007-04-14

I was first introduced to Miss Russell in 1980 by fellow musicians in Rochester NY. We spent late nights after rehearsals secretly listening and laughing ourselves sick. She had the ability to put us and our conductor in our places and made us like it! Miss Russell clearly understood opera, live concert events, touring and all aspects of the music of the world. Parts of this album were recorded in New York City USA and parts in Johannesburg South Africa. It makes no difference where the audience is, the language and experience is universal and we all laugh together. Undressed bagpipes, ears turning into gardenias, the lament for the fat ladies, and "Jolly Old Sigmund Freud" presented in the singular voice of a "ruined opera singer" are irresistible.

The best comment about this album came from my seventeen year old son. Just last year (2006) I finally got a CD copy of this priceless work of art and shared it with him. He listened totally enthralled. The selection "Hamletto, or Prosciuttino (sung in simultaneous Italian and English0" caused him to comment, "Well, now I know what Hamlet is about." He since asked me to get the others and has loved them as well. "Backwards With the Folk Song" brought back memories of Voice Lessons and dreary concerts that now can be enjoyed safely from a distance. Today's indie and emo musicians could do well to listen and learn.

I would recommend Miss Russell's work for any teenaged class, they seem to adore her sly wit. Besides, all the French Horn players in the High School band need a little teasing from time to time.

5 out of 5 stars A classic above all classics.......2000-03-17

From the velvet-voiced music reviewer herself, Anna Russell has laid many a sour note. This in itself, is what makes her so funny. She takes greater pains to sound bad as most other singers do to sound good. And the best thing about this, and all of her recordings in general is that you will never tire of them, no matter how much you play them... From those before her or after her in the musica funnia farma (P.D.Q. Bach, Victor Borge, Florence Foster Jenkins, etc.), it is in this venue of music appreciation (or as some say, depreciation), that will bring newer fans to the classical arena...

5 out of 5 stars Funny and scathingly true.......1999-10-29
