Pop's rush to raid the cradle continues with this promising debut by 25-year-old Canadian singer Michael Bublé. And while the young vocal star's good looks are smart enough for a boy band, his muse seems to have sprung from a more sassy and compelling musical era. Mentored by Paul Anka (whose '50s hit "Put Your Head on My Shoulder" is covered in dreamy, cabaret fashion here), Bublé sings in the orbits of Darin and Sinatra, covering swing epoch gems ("Come Fly with Me," "The Way You Look Tonight," "That's All") and rock era standards (Van Morrison's "Moondance," "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" by the Brothers Gibb, Queen's "Crazy Little Ting Called Love") with equal aplomb. David Foster's production is typically slick and played to the back row of the bleachers, but it's informed by smart contexts provided by such arrangers as Johnny Mandel, Randy Waldman, and Mike Melvoin. If the choices of material are sometimes staid and predictable, they also give the singer a crucial framework for building toward something more challenging; his is a bright future. --Jerry McCulley

It's no coincidence that Michael Bublé's new album starts with just his voice and some fingersnaps on "The Best Is Yet to Come," a song made famous by Frank Sinatra. The Canadian smoothie looks longingly towards early-'60s Vegas, an impression quickly reinforced when a boisterous horn section makes its grand entrance, about 20 seconds into the track. That Bublé means business is confirmed by the second cut, a fast-paced take on Henry Mancini's "It Had Better Be Tonight," and of course by the CD's very title, another song identified with Sinatra as his cockiest. There are just a few sidesteps from the retro formula that's served Bublé so well so far: a languid duet with Brazilian star Ivan Lins on the bossa "Wonderful Tonight," a gospel choir on "That's Life." Interestingly, Bublé co-wrote the best of those sidesteps, "Everything," a Norah Jones-esque number that alluringly harks back to sunny '70s pop. It's also the only song on the album produced by Bob Rock (best known for his work with Metallica), sending out a strong signal that Bublé should reach out to unlikely collaborators more often. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Buble bubbles.......2007-07-16
This is one of the best releases in his growing catalogue of jazz/pop recordings. He's still proping himself up with his Sinatra wantabe interpretations; which is a shame because his voice is strong enough to develop his own material and style. This is a pleasant compilation of songs with a little "salsa" flavor. Easy on the ears and great for dancing.
Awesome CD.......2007-07-15
This CD was such a great purchase. I'd heard "Everything" on the radio but didn't know who sang it and was asking everyone I knew if they knew the song. Luckily, I heard it on the radio again a few days later and I'd ordered it before the song had finished as I loved it so much. Even though I bought the CD for just one song, the rest of it is so great also. "Lost" has such moving lyrics and such a beautiful tune and then there's some great big band numbers.
If you like this genre of music, you'll love this CD.
Michael Bublé does it again.......2007-07-09
Even my mother-in-law likes it! And, not going for the 14th selection makes it a very reasonable purchase/gift.
Great Gems.......2007-07-04
Buble's "Call Me Irresponsible" is a fine set with some real jewels. He obviously idolizes Frank Sinatra & shines on "That's Life" with a punchy arrangement, "I've been up & down & over & out & I know one thing, each time I find myself flat on my face I pick myself up & get back in the race." Of my very two favorites are the opener "The Best Is Yet to Come" with its cheerful anticipation, "Wait till the warm-ups are underway, wait till our lips have met, wait till you see that sunshine day, you ain't seen nothing yet!" "Me & Mrs. Jones" is a tale of an affair and was a startling Gamble & Huff soul track for Billy Paul. Buble milks the jazz out of the track, while sounding quite soulful. Harold Arlen is one of my favorite songwriters; so like other reviewers, I question the lisp on "I've Got the World on a String." It's probably supposed to be funny, but it sounds like he's making fun of the song. Joel Peskin's sax on the track blows deliciously. This set has some great gems. Enjoy!
A good album.........2007-07-03
I like it, I really do. I don't love it like I loved It's Time, but I like it. I know I'm being a bit redudant, but such is life. There were a few songs that in my opinion could've been produced or arranged a little better, but overall it's pretty good. I'm a great fan of Mr. Buble so he's one of the few artist that I'll buy a cd just because he's on it, and especially any cd that he puts out because it's sure to have good music on it. So once again I don't love, but I definitely like it..

Michael Bublé's assured debut and the tireless year of globe-trotting touring he spent promoting it elevated the 20-something Vancouver native into the first rank of pop crooner revivalists. His sophomore studio follow-up largely turns on the same formula that helped make his considerable vocal prowess so attractive to mainstream audiences, mixing the nigh flawless, if expected Sinatra-channeling ("I've Got You Under My Skin") with more playful and inviting renditions of pop standards like the Gershwin's "A Foggy Day in London Town," "Feeling Good," "Try A Little Tenderness" and Cole Porter's "I've Got You Under My Skin." But it's the eclectic mix of more contemporary material the singer seasons them with -- apt tribute to Bublé hero Bobby Darin -- that keeps him walking the narrow tightrope between artistic intrigue (a blues-tinged vamp of Holland-Dozier-Holland's "How Sweet It Is," Leon Russell's lovely "Song For You," with a guest turn by Chris Botti) and the kitsch-laden abyss ("Quando, Quando, Quando"'s Euro-centric duet with Nelly Furtado, a ring-a-ding-fling with the Beatles' "Can't Buy Me Love" that echoes fellow Canadian crooner/rival Matt Dusk's more successful flirtation with Lennon-McCartney). Arranger/producer Tommy LiPuma offers Bublé a welcome swinging jazz showcase on "The More I See of You," a bracing respite from the rest of producer David Foster's slick, if typically bloodless MOR production. -- Jerry McCulley [Note: A special edition including two bonus tracks--"Dream a Little Dream" and "Mack the Knife"--is also available.]

Great music.......2007-07-16
He is my favorite new singer. Very reminiscent of Sinatra, Bobby Darin, and the great Swing music of the 40's.
Michael Buble is WONDERFUL!.......2007-07-16
If you like easy listening music that`s reminiscent of Frank Sinatra, then you`ll love Michael Buble. I haven`t heard any artist this fantastic in years. This CD is the one you put in when you want to relax.
Another well done CD.......2007-07-14
This is another very well done cd by Michael Bublé. If you like his work, you'll enjoy this new edition.
Fantastic CD.......2007-07-05
This is a great CD - if you like Michael Buble's current CD (Call Me Irresponsible) you will like this one as well. This album has more slow songs on it than the current album, but still sexy and fun.
He just can't do the blues....only slightly convincing.......2007-07-02
I like Mike. He's a talented guy, but this, and the Call Me Irresponsible CD are just ok. He makes a few attempts in areas where he is not proficient, doesn't have the training, or the voice, but makes a decent go of it. However, the end result simply isn't convincing. He should stick with covers as he did in his opener, and even then, try not to make them his own by changing the musical accompaniment vastly. Good Jazz/Crooner, stick with it! Don't let the producers get in your way.

LOVE IT!.......2007-06-27
I love this CD. Perhaps its my love of old music or Michael Buble's wonderful voice! I highly recommend this.
"Just a Dream".......2007-06-12
Michael Bublé's voice takes me to another dimension high above. His voice has an undescribable quality that you have to experience to understand. He's like a cross between Frank Sinatra and Jack Jones. If you enjoy the standards of the American Songbook, you'll love the fresh yet traditional versions of the standards which he sings. I've been listening to the standards sung by Sinatra, Nat King Cole, etc for decades and usually don't enjoy remakes by recent modern artists; Michael Bublé is one of the rare exceptions who outshines all of the recent standards singers wannabes.
This CD is an incredibly great album to from start to finish; there's no need to skip songs which are merely mediocre or plain terrible because each song is a great rendition and a true gem.
Michael Buble'.......2007-06-09
Can't say enough about this new and up coming singer. He sounds to me so much like Sinatra when he was young. This album is very good and I enjoyed it very much.
Michael Bublé..........2007-06-02
I wish Frank Sinatra could have heard this young man sing. I'd like to think that he'd be impressed! Four stars!

In the opening track of this live CD, Michael Bublé explodes "I'm feeeling GOOD!" Who could blame him? He's backed by a big--make that a really big--band, and the song sounds like a million bucks. You may quibble that Bublé is a nice fellow who's a bit lacking in both the charisma and swing departments, but the music here percolates with bouncing energing--just listen to "Summer Wind" or "The More I See You" to see how glorious arrangements (by Johnny Mandel and John Clayton Jr., respectively) can propulse a reasonably gifted but by no means transcendent singer into the stratosphere. Best of all, Bublé once again shows his ability to seamlessly bridge eras and styles by offering stylistically consistent covers of the Beatles' "Can't Buy Me Love" (done swing-style) and Lou Rawls' 1976 hit "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" (done crooner-style in a duet with Italian singer Laura Pausini). (The DVD offers up a similar take on Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," for instance.) The DVD portion of this combo set doubles the ante by offering 18 tracks (plus a bonus "Song for You" with Chris Botti) to the CD's 8. There's also a 20-minute backstage featurette showing what goes into the preparation for the show. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

caught in the act.......2007-06-29
the only buble dvd out that's worth it's wait in gold. the sound is great and the band is the best..all young musicians under 35 yrs. old. God bless them..buy this keepsake
You are so gonna love it!!!.......2007-06-19
I have never liked concert videos very much. Even when I loved a singer or a band it was hard for me sit through an entire concert DVD, no matter how handsome or talented they were. I guess I felt it was a poor experience compared to the excitement of the real thing.
But Caught In The Act is so good that even I can't stop watching it. Why? Well...
1. Michael Bublé is a great singer. No, he is a great PERFORMER. He has no only a beautiful, velvet-like voice but he feels every song and it shows.
2. Great band! Awesome musicians. It's a real privilege to see and listen to such an amazing group of artists.
3. The songs are wonderful. Some may say that Bublé plays safe with proved hits but he sings every song in his unique style without betraying the spirit of the genre.
4. The guy is so funny!!! "Caught In The Act" is like one of those 2x1 specials. You get a great concert AND live comedy! His "impersonation" act is hilarious, especially because this time there is a surprise for him too.
5. And it doesn't hurt that the guy is good looking too. Absolutely NOT the most important part of the show but a nice bonus nevertheless.
This CD+DVD is an absolutely MUST. There is no way you will regret buying it.
The CD was remarkable, the DVD was entertaining!.......2007-06-10
I was first introduced to the wonderful talents of Michael Buble while I was looking for the song "Sway" on iTunes. Ever since, I've been hooked to Mr. Buble's music.
Michael Buble's performance thoughout the DVD is downright remarkable. He performed the songs that can be found on the CD as well as a few surprises here and there. Somewhere after track 10 on the DVD, Buble performs a cover edition of Maroon 5's "This Love". I'm a huge Maroon 5 fan and Michael's performance was hillarious when he made up words to the rest of the song because he didn't know (or remember) them.
Anyway, if you're looking for a glimpse of what the atmosphere at a Michael Buble concert is like, check out this DVD. It takes place at what seems to be a classy venue and the people in the DVD have so much fun dancing and singing to his popular songs.
WOW.......2007-05-15
this is a fantastic CD. I wish there was a DVD to go with it!
Fantastic.......2007-05-13
Michael Buble is one of the most talent artists out there. His arrangements of the standards are great, and he is giving new life to this wonderful music and bringing it to a whole new generation. While watching the DVD of this performance, I feel like I'm right there on stage with him because he has this great ability to make you feel connected to his performance. I loved the DVD and I would recommend this, and all of his CD's to anyone.

simply the best!!.......2007-07-03
Thank you, Mr Buble, for this fresh new cd of great material! Your take on "Me and Mrs Jones" is now one of my top favorites! Cannot wait to see you on stage again!
Love the man - Love the voice.......2007-06-08
I have all of Michael's CD's & DVD's & am madly in love with his music. His personality shines through on every song. I have never liked the song Mrs. Jones before (actually hated it) but Michael's version of it has made it my favorite on the CD. One thing I can not understand though - where did the lisp come from? It wasn't evident on any of the other CD's or DVD's before. It threw me through a loop at first but being such a fan the music finally won me over. It's a mystery to me - but I still Love the man - Love the voice.

A truly beautiful, unique mix of traditional swing jazz and contemporary pop........2007-05-16
As a performer, Bublé is the closest thing to Frank Sinatra there is today.
"Call Me Irresponsible" is the latest offering from Canadian hot-young-thing Michael Bublé. The handsome singer has already gained success in recent years with albums It's Time and Caught In The Act (CD + DVD) and singles including one of 2005's most played radio tracks Home.
With new and original material the crooner hopes to gain a new and more contemporary following.
To this end, the new album mixes old standards with new songs such as "Lost" - a melancholy tribute to a break-up - and the first single from the album," Everything".
While fellow artists trying to emulate the sounds of Ol' Blue Eyes and his gang may stick to the tried and tested formulas of Rat Pack songs, Bublé's new album departs from the crooner age, choosing classic songs that are not from the expected genre, including "Me and Mrs Jones", Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight" and "Always On My Mind" - the love song made famous by Elvis Presley.
There is almost half a really good record on this studio album. But, once again, glossy David Foster productions of overly-exposed songs associated with Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett dominate.
The backing band is top-notch. "Call Me Irresponsible" was certainly not cheap to make. Bublé's voice has body and he can carry a tune well but he's not a particularly expressive singer. Thus, his Las-Vegas-style version of Billy Paul's smoldering classic "Me and Mrs. Jones "strips all the sex and conflict and lyrical pathos out of it. Bublé's British actress girlfriend Emily Blunt ("The Devil Wears Prada") coos the closing lines.
Woozy, lispy renditions of "The Best Is Yet to Come", "I've Got the World on a String" and "That's Life" are even worse; they are smarmy -- like a boozy Bobby Darin come back to life.
When Bublé isn't cynically pandering to grandmas and their granddaughters with his predictable standards, he's improving. There's a charm to his original pop composition "Everything" (surprisingly produced by Bob Rock, a man better known for working with hard rockers Metallica and Motley Crüe). Oldies by Henry Mancini and Mel Torme that haven't been beaten to death through countless covers also stand out. Mancini's The Ultimate Pink Panther song "It Had Better Be Tonight (Meglio Stasera--in Italian)" is terrific, boasting an exciting Italian-salsa arrangement.
If Bublé would worry a bit less about demographics and take this album's title to heart by taking more chances and ditching the safety net of Foster, he could become more than just a sales phenomenom. Bublé could maybe approach the artistry of those he emulates.
Bublé wows the most when he departs from the Rat Pack-esque tunes and brings something different to other classics. His 1970s cabaret-style "Wonderful Tonight" presents a totally different take on the classic Clapton ballad, transformed in a delightful bossa nova duet with Brazilian legendary singer/songwriter Ivan Lins, while "Always on My Mind" is a more intimate and understated version than the King's, but still hits the spot. One of the album highlights is the jazzy version of Leonard Cohen's "I'm Your Man" - wrought with dramatic pauses, crescendos and key changes but still succeeding in being an intimate ballad.
A collaboration with the harmonic Boyz II Men on "Coming Home Baby" may seem like an odd pairing, but it's just good... However, the Boyz act as mere background to Bublé's warbling. And as if "Everything" wasn't rousing enough already, the album includes the singer pairing with a gospel choir on the track creating a truly uplifting version.
All in all...Unlike those who have tried and failed before him, the young star does not fail to disappoint. There are not many artists - especially in today's Pop Idol conveyer belt of a music scene - who can be mentioned in the same breath as Frank Sinatra. And NOT just as a mere epigon on the Sinatra's footsteps.
Which is pretty darn good.

A year after his slickly produced recording debut launched him on a meteoric course to stardom, this combo CD/DVD set chronicles Michael Buble's crowd-pleasing live performances before amphitheater-sized crowds on a triumphant national tour. The audio portion kicks off with pair of new studio recordings again reinforce the 20-something Canadian heartthrob's 1950s-something artistic tack with mixed results: "Nice 'n' Easy" has a Sinatra-faithful jazzy swing; the overproduced, somnambulistic "Can't Help Falling in Love" evokes Perry Como more than Elvis. The remainder of the audio CD is comprised mostly of live versions of songs from Buble's debut, with his takes of "My Funny Valentine," "Fever," Van Morrison's "Moondance" and "Mack the Knife" again suggesting that Buble has an ear cocked wisely towards the Bobby Darin oeuvre. But with the notable exception of three elegant live-in-studio performances culled from Sessions@AOL, the live DVD does Buble's undeniabl! y charming stage presence a great disservice. Intercut awkwardly with offstage comments by Buble and his band, the balance of that disc suffers from an MTV-inspired, cut/dissolve-every-three-seconds style that's intended to focus one's attention, but does exactly the opposite. If sudden stardom virtually guarantees that Buble's impossibly smooth, expressive voice seldom ventures very far outside the Sinatra/Darin mold here, hopefully he'll leverage that fame towards greater artistic challenges in the near future. --Jerry McCulley

I loved the cd/dvd of Michael buble, he's got such an awesome voice! He's so down to earth and brings back the good ol'days to the newer crowd.
SMASH HIT.......2007-01-18
Michael Buble is the best thing that has happened to music in the last twenty years.. The old standards, you can't beat them rate this cd as a number one..
I love this music.......2007-01-14
I have been told I am too old for my age as I love the Rat Pack music and American Standards. This is a great cover of those tunes.
I would love to fly with you!!!.......2006-11-10
This is a dynamite duo: cd/dvd!!! I first heard Michael Buble music in the Spring of 2005. The first purchase was It's Time, which is mind-blowing good!!! Come fly with me is awesome! The music is out of this world, and in my opinion, he sounds better than the original singers in the remakes he sings. WOW!!! The DVD is great! It shows his sense of humor, as well as his sensitive side. And there is no denying that he is an absolutely talented and amazing singer! The band is second to none as well! My impression of his talent was cemented even further when I saw his Concert in Spokane, WA in July of 2006. He never missed a beat and his voice was perfectly in tune. I have shared my excitement about his music and how it has touched my life with all of my friends, and have converted many of them to also be faithful fans of Michael's music. I now own almost all of his CD's and cannot wait to get the next one!

Buy a different Buble CD!.......2007-05-23
I have the albums "Michael Buble" and "It's Time", both are amazing. This album, however, is not. As pointed out by another reviewer, this work was done for a film BEFORE Buble became a big name. The film maker owned the rights to the music and released it in an attempt to capitalize on the current Buble craze. These songs are too subdued to enjoy anywhere but in an elevator or while falling asleep; they are lounge-jazz or pop-jazz, not at all the real thing.
Here's what Buble said about this fiasco: "Totally Buble" is not an album that I wanted to be released. They were songs I recorded for a film called "Totally Blonde" many years ago before I was signed to 143/Reprise Records. The decision to release it as an album was made by the film's producer, and I had no control over stopping him.
Also note that Buble's other tunes are great for swing dancing. These songs still work, but they are not nearly as much fun. Listen to the real Buble who can afford to produce good music, not the one who had to record soundtracks for lame movies to earn a living.
Oh yeah, the whole album seems to be only about 12 minutes long!!! The songs sound more like sample clips! I only recommend this CD for the hard-core fan who already owns every other recording Michael Buble has ever made. Perhaps these recordings would have turned out better without the obnoxious female jazz singers in the background. I hope this was informative.
Ho-Hum.......2007-01-10
I simply adore Buble but this wasn't really worth the money. Be sure and pick up "It's Time" and "Michael Buble" WAY before this album. I haven't ever seen the movie, but I'm guessing its one of those enjoy-the-music-during-the-movie-but-not-necessarily-after-it situations. Of course, Buble sounds good but the songs don't really do anything for me.
My wifes favorite CD.......2007-01-05
We saw his special on TV and I bought this for the wife. Good, easy listening if at home or driving in the country.
Critic of this Album.......2006-12-08
He should have interspersed this album with a few of some old standard ones that he hadn't recorded. He's known best for his arrangements on old standards. These song are to new on this album to hold their own.
taking advantage of buble the wrong way.......2006-06-23
here's a case of a someone trying to capitalize of someone's good name. don't buy this if you care about fair artist treatment.

Written by Michael, `Home' is his most emotional performance yet, brimming with soul and passionate honesty. `Home' more than matches his contemporary interpretations of songs such as `Feeling Good', `How Sweet It Is' and `I've Got You Under My Skin' which make up the many highlights of `It's Time'. The album, which was produced by David Foster and Humberto Gatica, is sure to develop into one of the biggest hits of 2005.
Album Details

Home Pt. 1.......2007-01-04
The only song that I like from Michael Buble is "Home" so I am happy that he made a CD with only this song on it.
Home Pt. 1 by Michael Buble.......2007-01-04
One of the most beautiful songs written for a loved one I have ever heard, it implies wonderful feeling & sentiment from the writer.
I love this song!.......2006-12-13
What a great contemporary love song. You can almost feel the yearning in Buble's voice as he sings about missing his "baby." A great song. I only wish Buble would record an entire album of contemporary love songs so he appeals to a broader audience.

-- Jerry McCulley [Note: This Special Edition includes two extra tracks: "Dream a Little Dream" and "Mack the Knife."]

Customer Reviews:
It's Time You Listen To Michael Bublé.......2006-05-30
I first heard of Michael Bublé from a friend of mine and I was immediately hooked and had to go out and buy this CD. His style is at once a throwback and completely new. He evokes Sinatra on "A Foggy Day," " Save The Last Dance For Me" is a swinging number that always make me get up to dance and "Home" is just beautiful. This is a stronger, more assured album from his first release.
His cover of "Can't Buy me Love" is so much fun and always turns heads when I play it at the office.
If you're looking to hear a male vocalist with that doesn't sound like he's been sucking in helium or if you are just looking to hear someone who can really sing and doesn't need to scream at an audience to prove it, you owe it to yourself to check out Michael Bublé. In the years to come he is sure to become a major force in music.
Wow.......2006-02-23
This is my 1st Michael Buble CD. Not only does Michael have an amazing voice to listen to but the band behind him is just as amazing. The band can take 50% of the credit for this being such a great album to listen to. Michael knows how to put feeling into his voice that makes you think he is singing directly to you. If you like music to swoon to, you will love this. His voice is a cross between Frank Sinatra and Frankie Avalon.
Fantastic CD.......2005-10-04
Michael Buble is phenomenal. Song number 5 HOME is a choker-upper at our houses, but we all love it and sing it out loud. Right now our family is separated by miles - but not for too much longer - the CD has tremendous sentimental value in our homes already and we will still be singing it I'm sure when we are all reunited again.
A star!.......2005-09-14
After having watched recent movies with his music featured, I wanted to buy this CD! It is well worth the price and the variety of music is great. The music will be enjoyed by all!
Great Interpretations and Arrangements of Standards and a Great Voice!.......2005-09-02
My wife who seldom buys cds suddenly buys this cd one day. I'm naturally intriqued and when I saw the good looking guy on the cover I thought right away, great, another one of those albums, a good-looking singer singing other people's stuff just like the endless numbers of boy-bands that keep coming out these days.
Then I heard the cd and I was blown away by first the great voice and then by the great Gattica/Foster arrangements. The sound is very well produced and as I'm a great Chicago fan, I really loved the arrangements on almost all the songs except perhaps "How Sweet it is" which I feel didn't really improve upon the original.
My wife bought the made in Singapore version and so I didn't have to pay $20 bucks for this and so I don't have as many gripes as some of the reviewers here about the price but I have to say that any cd that makes my wife happy, makes me happy too.
Great voice, great sound, great album!
