Boys Night Out
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Boys Night Out suggests the accompaniment to a PG-13-rated bachelor party, with an implied narrative arc and a stack of appreciative tunes about, er, dames. Frank, Dean and Sammy are heard mostly in solo settings, but the upbeat mood and brassy arrangements make for a cohesive Three Musketeers atmosphere. The 19-track disc offers some real nuggets for Sinatra fans (the little-heard near-title track, two visits to Guys and Dolls from the Reprise Repertory Theater set on which the Rat Pack's leader took the Nathan Detroit role he'd lost to Marlon Brando on film), while bearing reminders of how one-of-a-kind each of his two pals sounded. Listeners who are planning on staying in for the evening will also dig this thoughtfully compiled album. --Rickey Wright

same boys night out brand with a great new taste.......2007-07-06
i have been a big boys night out fan since before "make yourself sick," and except for "broken bones and bloody kisses" i've gotten every single boys night out album within the first week of it's release (hell, i skipped class to pick up "make yourself sick" the day it came out).
boys night out has always been a band that is about changing, yet staying the same. the new self titled album is no different. although, not quite as good as "make yourself sick," it is better than "trainwreck." in my opinion every single bno album gets a 5, because they are all fantastic. some of their cds may take a few listens to get into it and enjoy it, but i have not been disappointed yet.
let me explain my headline now:
anyone who is a fan of boys night out knows that their songs are all about murder and mayhem.....that's not the case with the new album. the songs on this album seem to be more about life, having fun, getting high, and some slight mayhem. the songs are all great though, and it's nice to see a change in the lyrics.
2 other differences...1 noticeable, the other not so much....is instruments. they now have 2 guitar players again (where "trainwreck" only had 1) and their original drummer ben is back (dave from fordirelifesake filled in for a while).
my only gripe about this album, but doesnt take away any points, is the slow type song that bno have at the end of every album they do....these songs are still really good on every album, but bno is way better when they stick with the faster paced catchy pop-punk.
if this is bno's 4th masterpiece....i can't wait to hear their next effort.
standout tracks include "get your head straight", "let me be your swear word", and "apartment 4".
just pick up the album....no need to even listen to clips. they don't do the songs any justice....you need to hear the full songs.
The best punk band from the Great White North returns!.......2007-06-27
The new Boys Night Out album deserves to be heard! The whole album is pretty solid but some highlights are "Get Your Head Straight," "Swift and Unforgiving," and "Reason Ain't Our Long Suit." The new cd isn't as 'screamo' as some of their earlier stuff but the sound is definitely great and shows how the band's sound has evolved. Of course, it still features some of the great prog-riffs that the band is already known for.
Bottom Line: Great stuff- definitely one of the better punk albums of the year.

Fun, Upbeat, Good Time, just like a Boys Night Out........2007-07-10
Yeah it is not their most famous songs, but the songs are all great. This disc is just a fun disc. The songs are upbeat and well done. I have Live at the Sands and EEE-O-11 which are both live and fantastic but this one is my personal favorite.
Sammy, Frank and Dean could REALLY sell a song--and that's no small feat !!!.......2007-06-19
This CD gives us a great collection of classic pop standards performed by three of the greatest entertainers of the twentieth century: Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Dean Martin. Their performances on this CD are remarkably well polished; and every moment of this CD proves it.
The CD track set opens with the peppy "Here Goes" performed by Frank Sinatra. The arrangement moves at a great tempo and the horns are well used for "Here Goes." Frank's breezy and flashy delivery sparkles like gold and his voice is in excellent form, too. Sammy Davis also performs one of his signature songs entitled "Yes I Can." "Yes I Can" is semi-autobiographical; Sammy sings of how he believes that he can "go all the way" in his career as a professional entertainer. The piano, horns and drums help the melody move along with drama and flair; and Sammy plays with the tempo of his vocals to accomplish some great vocal gymnastics.
"We Open In Venice" is a playful tune about Frank, Dean and Sammy embarking on a tour of Italy; they harmonize well and their verbal interjections create a sense that they improvised this number although they probably practiced "We Open In Venice" until they got it just right. Another playful tune is Frank Sinatra's rendition of "Ol' MacDonald." Frank changes most of the nursery rhyme lyrics to make it a song about how he loves his woman; and this approach works very well. Love those chimes on "Ol' MacDonald," too!
Sammy Davis, Jr. comes back to sing a more traditional ballad with "There Is Nothin' Like A Dame" from South Pacific. Sammy sings this to perfection and the musical arrangement uses the horns and percussion well. Sammy, being Sammy, just can't resist playing with some of the lyrics and the tempo--and this boosts the quality of "There Is Nothin' Like A Dame."
Other gems on this CD include "Guys And Dolls" sung by Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra; they deliver this number with panache and masculine sensitivity. "Something's Gotta Give" features Sammy Davis, Jr. outdoing even himself as he delivers this without a superfluous note. His masculine warmth and energy render "Something's Gotta Give" an infectiously catchy number. Great! Frank performs "Just One Of Those Things" with passion, sensitivity and a worship of a love affair that stuns me with its high quality control.
The CD ends with a reprise of "Guys And Dolls" sung by Frank and Dean once again. Although many years have passed since this recording was made, the lyrics about men doing things to impress their women remain completely true to this day. Awesome!
The liner notes feature photos of Sammy, Frank and Dean with a blue hue to them; and there are a few quotes each provided about themselves and their work together. It's very sweet; but I would have liked an essay to be included in the liner notes. However, this is a minor disappointment.
Sammy Davis, Jr., Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin will remain three of the greatest entertainers that ever lived; and I doubt we'll ever see another group quite like them. They sang their hearts out, all the while making it seem so easy although we know it really wasn't. I highly recommend this CD for their fans; and fans of "The Rat Pack" will love this CD forever!
Enjoy!

if you liked old boysnightout then stay well away from this album.......2006-10-07
First off the lyrics and idea for how this album is portrayed is well thought of but to me it appears that the band has thought too much about the lyrical content and not enough about the music, quite frankly it's boring. The one track I liked and still like off this album is purging because my mind just cannot escape the sound of the female keyboardists voice, it's innocent and sweet. I just cannot understand why the band felt they had to part with the sound they used to have the concept would of worked out exactly the same with the old formula but they took the pop out of the heardcore/pop and threw away the speed. This band used to be a nice different sounding experience now they just sound like thousands of other bands that are churned out of record labels daily. I find the title somewhat of a pun "train wreck" just about as much fun as one.
Trainwreck.......2006-09-09
check this album out, it is amazing, the story is riveting and tne music supports the lyrics by seamlessly going from denial to depression to outrage to acceptance and so much more
Great Idea - Wrong Genre.......2006-05-23
I believe Trainwreck is a really good album, but moreso because of what it tries to accomplish rather than what it actually does accomplish. I gave it a four star rating because the idea to make a concept album based on the mind of a man decending into madness, murder, and insanity is what I've been waiting for ever since I listened deeply to the early Alice Cooper albums. Learning of the content of Trainwreck made me immediatley think of certain Alice Cooper story-songs like "Steven" or "The Ballad of Dwight Frye" which are also about diminishing mindstates and insanity taking over. The problem I have with Trainwreck is that the storytelling didn't work as well with their emo hardcore sound, frankly I would have been much more impressed with a classic rock approach similar to Cooper. Although Boys Night Out aren't in that genre, alot of the songs could have been better with a slower, creepier feel to them and lyrically - maybe singing slower to really drive home those tragic moments of the journey.
Great try Boys', and I will love the album anyways...but if you're gonna make a horror album then make sure it will really give listeners a scare. It was done alrite just could've been better.
shame!!on u guys.......2006-03-25
there first and second album rocked hardcore rocked
and they follow up with this I'm so disappiointed I'm gonna stop write>>
More of a Planecrash........2006-03-17
Sugar, we're goin' down. "Trainwreck" is a concept album that plays more like a plane crash than its title would suggest, which is to say it takes a spectacular nosedive in quality after the first couple high-flying tracks.
An idea for a record like "Trainwreck" sounds promising on paper: the disoriented jumble of events surrounding a mental patient's unintentional murder of the one he loves most, and exploration of the ensuing tragedy leaves a grand canyon sized hole full of pain and anguish for the Boys' guitars (and, these days, singer) to not-so-gently weep about.
Unfortunately, in portraying the obfuscated story of "The Patient," Boys Night Out hit the wrong chord a few too many times for taste, which at some point stops being purposeful and starts sounding spiritless, repetitious and uninspired. The songs undergo a downward spiral of their own and deteriorate from the genuinely anthemic quality of "Dreaming" into considerably more prosaic emo/hardcore chunk ballads.
It's not that Boys Night Out don't possess the ability to shift gears -- this much is apparent from the dichotomy witnessed between the styles of "Dreaming" and "Waking" -- it's that after awhile, they just seem to forget about trying at all. Maybe it's an unfortunate side effect of trying to cram too much story into too small an album, but most of the music on "Trainwreck" is going to sound awful damn familiar to anyone who hasn't been living under a rock since MTV heard about bands like Brand New and Fall Out Boy.
The stilted "Introduction" adds nothing musically, and "lyrically" ("These people were in LOVE! DEEPLY IN LOVE!")? Only a long-winded and heavy-handed prologue to inform and educate lazier listeners; it could easily be cut, and gets the skip every time. If anything, the expository press kit monologue could be replaced with the stripped-down instrumental noodling underneath, and nothing else, for a much nicer lead-in.
Don't even get me started on the forehead-smacking melodrama that is "Dying." Someone call "The Doctor" a script doctor ASAP, because this is some of the sappiest stuff you'll find outside of IHOP's kitchen. The music is a sight better, but the spoken word monologues give it a good punch in the gut to finish the record off.
For anyone with "rings around their wrist proving that they exist" who seeks a rewarding listening experience, I recommend pairing "Trainwreck" with Armor for Sleep's "What To Do When You're Dead," another lackluster record that will never escape the looming shadow of that terrible and misrepresenting label that is "emo."

an oldy but a goody.......2006-10-07
I have had this album for a good while now and it never bores me, its chirpy, well written, and extremely catchy, not being a particular fan of pop this certainly proves to me that when mixed with a little post hardcore definitely worth a earwig. Although the album sounds bouncy and punky the lyrics are pretty dark and brutal at times and well sang with an occasional scream to back them up. The guitaring is fast and technical, and full of unusual timing. There is a great variety of tracks from hardcore to acoustic to plain old punk but all made very experimentally great use of synth, and keyboards. The great thing about this album is I find myself singing the words to myself randomly even after not listening to it for several months. This album is power pop at its best, if you are thinking of exploring this band I recommend this album rather than the highly disappointing "train wreck". Check these guys out but be warned these songs are real, real catchy.
mind blowing album..........2006-06-21
This is one of the best albums of all time.
If you don't agree you need to listen to it again.
Buy this album immediately.
Just another in this dime-a-dozen genre.......2006-01-29
First off, I would like to state that Boys Night Out is not emo, screamo or whatever play off of emo you can think of. They are simply alternative rock, pop-punk at best. Thanks to MTV, everyone and their brother now think that any band that sings soft lyrics with punk-influenced guitar riffs is emo, and anyone that screams is screamo. This is 2006 emo/screamo died 10 years ago! If you want real emo, check out Rites of Spring or Moss Icon. Both of those bands have the title of the first emo band, depending on who you talk to. Also visit www.fourfa.com for an explanation of what emo really is.
Now about Boys Night Out. Their first album featured lots of screaming, and not much singing. This album is a total reverse of it with more singing and alot less screaming. To me they are exactly the same as Fall Out Boy, except with lyrics that you can understand. Same pop influeced punkish guitar riffs and same song structure except with a better singer and better lyrics.
Do yourself a favor and stop listening to most of the music thats on MTV. If you just have to buy this album because your best friend says to, or all the cool kids have it, buy it used.
Boys Night Out Debuts at High Performance.......2005-07-10
First of all "A torrid Love Affair" is one of the best written emo/screamo songs of all time. This cd is a great follow up to BB&BK. "I GOt Punched in the Nose" is a great opener with catchy lyrics and guitar. "Hold on Tightly" is another great lyrical song with a electrical sound. "The subleties that make..." is prob one of the most catchy songs on the cd."Anatomy of the Journey" is an amazing song that starts off with dark screaming and goes into detail to explain following the sounds of a bullet to a murder scene. Boys Night Out combines screaming and singing better than any other band Ive heard. Go Pick UP MYS now.
New Emo.......2005-06-28
Emo has a certain number of allstars. Ya know the ones that make the genre. Well Boys Night Out is the next one. Its an amazing CD that features the edge that not many others provide, with drawn out yells an actually meaningful lyrics. This is for the fans that want something to move to not cry to.

I loved it.......2005-09-07
This album really is a party. This compilation, is meant to give a little flavor of what is being played in gay clubs. Most likely NY gay clubs. There is some soulful songs like, I Don't Want To Lose Your Love by B Angie B and Best Days (TNT's Mo' Soul Radio Edit) by Juice. G.A.Y. by, Geri Halliwell, is the disco anthem that gets the party started. There were some old soul songs, that didn't need to be included, but they still add some taste to this album.
POOR EXCUSE TO CASH IN USING "SEX AND THE CITY".......2005-03-25
The only reason I can see why this album is out is because somebody wanted to find a way to cash in on the HBO series "Sex And The City". Track #7, "You Got The Love" by The Source feat. Candi Staton was apparently featured prominently during the closing credits of the last episode of the series (at least according to the sticker that is screaming this information to you from the front of the CD wrapper!). So, instead of issuing the track as a single, EMI thought they could make more money by issuing a gay-oriented compilation. Though I don't agree with their marketing ("Let's sell this to gay guys 'cuz, hey, it's 'Sex & The City', and you just KNOW they're gonna buy it!"), I can see why they had to resort to doing so: "You Got The Love" is just an OK track that's really a bit too weak to stand on its own.
So what do you get for your money? Not much, really. This disc is an unmixed CD consisting mostly (though not entirely) of short radio versions. For example, "Armed And Extremely Dangerous" by First Choice clocks in at a whopping 2:48...could they spare it? If you can't give us at least the album version or the 12" single version, why not scrap it altogether? The only solid tracks are the until-now incredibly hard to find extended John Luongo remix of "Boogie Oogie Oogie" by A Taste Of Honey, as are "Gonna Get Over You" by France Joli and the two Hi-NRG tracks from the 80's (but even then, only one of these is a long version). The rest is garbage, particularly the Geri Halliwell track, "G.A.Y." which is not only dumb, but rather condescending as well. A cheap marketing ploy if there ever was one!
Avoid this piece of rubbish. There are so many other dance compilations out there (whether gay-oriented or not) that do a MUCH better job of providing you decent versions of quality tracks.

Amazing.......2003-07-16
Ok, so my love of boys night out started the first night i heard them, a friend of mine had me listen to his cd. I was astonished! however i didn't know how amazing they were until i recently saw them live. They are hands down the best live band ever. this is coming from vast knowledge and show ex. my advice see them live. these guys perfectly blend screaming and singing but add flare and make it there own. if u like scremo/hardcore or metalcore you will absolutely love these guys. my favorite song is track 5 sketch artist comp. buy this!
Hardcore mixed with emo.......2003-05-23
This is a really good, but short, hardcore/emo album. This band goes about 50/50 between screaming and singing. Before this cd was released, they were a pop punk/ska band, but now they sound nothing like that. This is definetly one of the best mixes of hardcore and emo I have ever heard. I'll give you a run-down of the songs now.
1. Where We Breathe: A good song. Has mostly just singing. Sounds like a Finch song.
2. Only Honest Love Song: An awesome song. I think the guitars are the best in this song. The melodic breakdowns are crucial in this song. Some of the best I have ever heard.
3. This Broken Killswitch: A very tight song. I think this should've been the first song on the cd, since the opening is very fast and gives you a tight rush. This song has much more screaming than singing.
4. Victor Verses the Victim: Average song. Contains mostly just singing. Nothing Spectacular and pretty short if you cut out the weak ending.
5. Sketch Artist Composite: This is another good song. It sounds a lot like the first track though (sounds like an emocore song).
6. Torrid Love Affair: This is my favorite song on the album. The screaming and singing are about equal and are both very good. Also the song just flows greatly between the singing and screaming parts. Overall this is a great cd cause it is something new, even though a lot of bands try to mix singing and screaming, they don't have the same balance this cd has.
Fans of Atreyu, Beloved, Story of the Year, and Remembering Never should definetly get this cd. IM me at Gutter2D if you want to me to send you some of their songs (I have DSL) or just want to talk about good HxC bands...Peace

Depth of Holy Week Captured.......2007-04-16
I bought this for the voices of Michael Chance and James Bowman, as well as for Robert King. Once again these two famous counter-tenors are teamed up. Both with different voices but the perfect blend. Tracks 3 and 4 are solos, and the rest duets, with the singers complimenting each other magnificently. If you enjoy the mysterious and lengthy sound of sacred music, focusing specifically on the voice, you will love this recording.
a voice teacher and early music fan.......2005-12-24
The sacred music of Couperin has an intensity and power rarely found in baroque church music. It was mostly scored for one, two or 3 voices and continuo; this CD is an excellent example of his work. The name "tenebrae" probably refers to the darkness that gradually spread during the service as candles were extinguished one by one until Matins ended in darkness. The first 2 lessons are for solo voice;the third is a duet. The disc begins with a Motet which was written in honor of the marytr St. Bartholomew during which the 2 voices imitate and chase each other in 3rds. The selection "Venite Exultemus Domino" is largely an exultant text with suspensions of great beauty and ending in a surprisingly low tessitura. To my mind the "Magnificat" with its variety of textual moods and rich harmony is the real "showcase" on this recording! And with the 2 great countertenor voices of Chance and Bowman we have the best possible rendition. They are a great team vocally for they blend well and indeed are very similar in their singing style, although I think Chance as the edge in overall performance. A great recording in every way.
