Mulan: An Original Walt Disney Records Soundtrack [Soundtrack]
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Lea Salonga, best known as the voice of Jasmine in Aladdin, steals the show here as the title character in Disney's Mulan. The former star of Miss Saigon adds touching elements to the feature, especially on introspective numbers such as "Reflection." Unfortunately, the voice of Donny Osmond, relegated to anthems such as "I'll Make a Man Out of You" doesn't really enhance the story line, a saga set in ancient China. Jerry Goldsmith provides the Far East tinge to the score, almost reminiscent of early Les Baxter. While Mulan is a far cry from the memorable Beauty and the Beast, it is both funny and charming. --Jason Verlinde

Excellent Soundtrack but . . . .......2007-04-05
The sound track is excellent. Lea Solanga is outstanding and the selection of music is great. I found only one possible flaw and that was in the order of the tracks. I think it would been a much better flow if A Girl Worth Fighting For was followed by The Burned Out Village. As it stands now the song ends abruptly. The next track is True to Your Heart. The Burned Out Village should have followed "Girl . . .". The two are connected in the film so I think it proper that they be linked on the soundtrack. I think this is a big enough problem that I decided to downgrade my rating. A little more care and thought into the ordering of the selections would have made for a better soundtrack CD.
a true Disney heroine.......2007-01-04
And Lea Salonga has an amazing voice! I won't repeat what others have already said here about the wonderful (if incomplete) score; what I have noticed, however- unless they have updated and re-released this album since I bought it- is that the track titled "Mulan's Decision" is NOT the same music used in the actual movie at the point where Mulan makes the decision to take her father's place. Disappointing, since that is one of the best scenes in the film.
Best disney movie album!!.......2006-12-13
This is BY FAR the BEST disney movie soundtrack since...EVER! The Songs are GREAT, the voices singing them are EXCELLENT, and the score is INCREDIBLE! This is even BETTER than Titanic or the Lord of the Rings music! Believe me, if you buy this you will NOT be disappointed!!!
Peace out,
T-bone!
4 1/2 for the songs; 5+ for the score.......2006-12-06
Mulan has one of the best Disney soundtracks. In addition to being a wonderful movie it has a great set of songs to accompany it and a wonderfully lovely score behind the scenes. There are awesome songs like "I'll Make a Man Out of You" or "Reflection", or just plain funny songs like "Girl Worth Fighting For" which is hilarious and fun. "Honor to Us All" is also a funny song, but also slightly serious. It mostly gives us a view of what Mulan's life is like and what sort of a person she is. It also includes some of her feelings in regards to her father and her worries and concerns about him.
"Reflection" is really the song where we learn about what sort of a person Mulan is. It reveals her in a way that very few conversations do. It's a touching, beautiful song. There is also a pop version that is a bit different and strange, slightly bringing the score of these fine songs down. "I'll Make a Man Out of You" is awesome. Simply and plainly. It's a kick-butt song that is fun to sing along to and is so much fun to listen to. It's exciting and the words are funny. You can dance to it, yell to it, and it's one of the best scenes in the movie. "Girl Worth Fighting For" is a very funny song about all of the guys describing their perfect girl and Mulan being very awkward and confused. It's nothing incredible, but it's cute and fun. There is also "True to Your Heart", which I personally don't like much and think kind of ruins the mood of the soundtrack.
Those are the songs. Now we enter the world of the score. The pieces are lovely and fitting. They're powerful, emotional, and beautiful. Every piece accompanies its appropriate scene wonderfully with so much heart to it that it just sounds so beautiful it's sad.
This soundtrack is terrific and I'd recommend it to anyone. This is a soundtrack to buy.
