"(Beegie) caresses the keys like a jazz mama in heaven. Close to paradise on plastic."

Austin Bealmear, Tennessee Jazz & Blues Society, 12/1/97
"Beegie's piano work is very much like Sinatra's vocal style--finely crafted, elegantly non-chalant, subtle yet interesting, and always swinging."

The pundits claim that Ol' Blue Eyes did his best work with Columbia in the '50s, but there's more great '60s and '70s stuff here than you can shake a stick at. After all, Sinatra wouldn't start his own label only to sing schlock. This four-CD set was released to celebrate The Chairman's 75th birthday and it traces the mellowing of that tremendous voice like the aging of a fine wine. It also adds eight unreleased tracks to a staggering song list highlighted by biggies like "New York, New York," "My Way," "The Way You Look Tonight," "It Was a Very Good Year," and "The Song Is You." --Michael Ruby

5 out of 5 stars One of the Four Essential Sinatra Box Sets.......2007-06-19

Along with The Columbia Years, The Capitol Singles Collection, and Sinatra in Vegas, this is a must-have for any Sinatraphile. His Reprise years saw some great ballads and some excellent re-makes of older Sinatra classics. Because of the occasional inconsistency of Sinatra's later Reprise releases, this boxed set is an economical way to get the best of his later work without buying the later albums.
Sound is excellent, and the set comes with a good booklet on Sinatra as well.

5 out of 5 stars Everything you'd want from the Reprise Years.......2006-06-08

Few vocalists pack the drama, emotion, and swagger of Frank Sinatra and "The Reprise Collection" compiles Frankie at his best during that era. You couldn't possibly pack EVERYTHING her recorded on Reprise into a box set...it would be enormous! This covers the gravy of his recordings for Reprise from 1960 to 1986 and shows his career trajectory during those many years, going from a middle-aged pro to the twilight of his years. Anything and everything is pretty much here, from "Something Stupid" to pop classics like "New York, New York" all delivered in the inimitable Sinatra style. Reading over the track listing is a trip down memory lane and so many of these tracks were signature songs Sinatra defined and owned. Of course there's the age-old debate about whether his Capitol or Reprise years were his best; I say who cares! Pop these CDs in and you'll see Frankie was still the consummate artist until almost the end.

5 out of 5 stars Very good collection for a good price.......2006-02-05

This is a great value if you are looking for the many highlights of Frank in the Reprise years. This will give you many (not all) of his great recordings. This will save you much time and money vs. trying to find many of these songs individually.

In short: gives you alot of songs for the money. However, there is much more out there during the Reprise years to discover.

5 out of 5 stars A Dazzling Collection And A Must Have For All Sinatra Fans.......2005-07-08

When I got this four cd boxed set nearly 10 years ago, I was pretty heavily into Sinatra and already owned the excellent "The Capitol Years" boxed set, but I always leaned slightly towards the Reprise years, since those were the first Sinatra recordings I've ever heard.

"The Reprise Collection contains the best work from Sinatra at Reprise Records, the record company he started in 1962 and made a lot of his best work at. This four cd collection is the best representation of his career released. Sinatra was always like fine wine, getting better with age, and here, in his autumn years, was never finer.

Here is where you'll find a lot of Sinatra's best songs. Indeed, songs like "Fly Me To The Moon", "Strangers In The Night", "The Summer Wind", "Somethin' Stupid", "I've Got You Under My Skin", "My Way" and "(Theme From) New York, New York" rank among Sinatra's best and most popular works. Of course, there are a number of underrated gems here that really deserve to be heard, especially the stuff on the latter half of the third disc. And I would also like to reply to the reviews to say his voice was not in top form on the fourth disc. Well, Sinatra was much older at this point, plus he smoked, so it was only fitting that his voice changed. However, it worked in his favor. A lot of the songs Sinatra sing in this period, like "There Used To Be A Ballpark", "Send In The Clowns", "The Gal That Got Away/It Never Entered My Mind" and "Here's To The Band", were meant to be sung from an old person's perspective, and Sinatra performed them perfectly. So it ends here.

The booklet is flawlessy put together. Very informative with some great photos. This boxed is an absolute must for all Sinatra fans or anyone with any taste in music whatsoever.

Each song on this 96-cut collection is wonderful. And the Capitol years were when Sinatra's fullest voice was used on material by the best (Arlen, Porter, Van Heusen, Cahn, Styne). But a purist will miss the narrative that was so special in the original albums. Records such as This is Sinatra, Songs for Swingin' Lovers, and Only the Lonely were among the first concept albums in pop music. If you're used to hearing "Three Coins in the Fountain" after "I've Got the World on a String," this relatively random cornucopia--though full of great music--will not leave you feeling as satisfied as the old LPs. This is a fine primer for newcomers, but you should't miss the tracks that never became singles, including such classics as "Pennies From Heaven" and "Old Devil Moon." --Karen Croft

5 out of 5 stars FRANK SINATRA "AMERICANA AT ITS FINEST" THIS CD SET CAPTURES OLD BLUE EYES VOICE AT AN UNREACHABLE PEAK.......................2007-05-14

I do own Frank Sinatras Columbia years 4 cd set 1943-1952. I like how young and vibrant his voice sounds in those war torn years of America. I will say Frankies voice reached an unreachable peak during his Capital Years 1953-1962. This cd box set really showcases Franks incredible voice. I never realized how great Franks voice was until listening to this box set straight through. At first it was overkill but as each song played, I wanted to hear more. Frank saw through the whole process of his recordings, he also used top notch recording equipment in the recording studios. Thank the good lord Frankie did, because the remastered quality sound on this set is incredible for recordings this age. I was'nt around for Sinatras young years, but I appreciate this mans voice and skills in the studio. Frank Sinatra came from a poor upbringing. He fought his way to the top of the movie and record business, either unscrupuless or agreeable it doesn't matter, as the song goes Frank did it his way. Frank was very concious of his looks in public and on the screen. What Frank may have lacked in looks, God Blessed him with a beautiful voice that far surpassed any great looking Hollywood star of the time. The Frank Sinatra Complete Capitol Singles Collection is a must have for any music fan, the 96 page booklet is very informative and interesting. Frank Sinatra, even though deceased is Americana at its finest.

5 out of 5 stars The One and only Francis Albert.......2007-05-01

The original reviewer is quite wrong when she states this is not for the purist. All of these singles where not included in Franks concept albums and to miss this collection would be a shame. You need this collection to go along with all the others,I know I have them all.Ring a ding ding!

5 out of 5 stars Great appreciation.......2007-01-12

Recording quality is excellent and permitted the listener to fully apppreciate Sinatra's voice during his prime.

5 out of 5 stars SOME VERY GREAT YEARS...PEAK SINATRA VOCALS!!!.......2006-12-07

Many of us baby boomers fell in love with the great voice of Frank Sinatra when we were kids in the 50's hearing adults around us playing his great lp's and listening to his wonderful Singles on the radio which is what this wonderous collection of Sinatra classics is all about so each great song was specially crafted for the radio to be a hit and many more than were should have been...this is an incredibly great collection of gems from the genius!!! Arrangements are first rate and this collection is a keeper from a peerless legend who continues to enrich our life in a way that only he could...thank you Mr. Sinatra for leaving us such a treasure chest of musical magic to enjoy over and over again and you are missed!!!

5 out of 5 stars Phenomenal Frank Collection- Includes some great rarities.......2001-12-04

The trouble with buying Mr. Sinatra's recordings is that many overlap between the original vinyl now on CD,and other more lenghty collections. That's why this 4-disc CAPITOL collection is so good. There are some swingers and ballads here that to me at least,a die hard fan, were unknown before hearing them here.True, a few are not top drawer Frank, but there are many peak performances here with Frank, and usually,Nelson Riddle. These include "My One and Only Love",which I admit I almost disliked on first listening. Now it is among my all-time favorite Frank ballads.Listen to this wondrous love song, and you'll know why Frank helped make a better world with so many tunes. The same is true with "You My Love","Look to your Heart","Tell Her You Love Her" (a slightly faster tempo),"Time After Time",and "This Was My Love".Any young couple who can sing these songs together (try karaoke?!) should head right to the altar, and will probably live happily ever after. (Except for "This Was My Love",actually a sad number). For swingers try "Mr. Success",a real blaster with lyrics Frank may have helped write. The same holds for the practically unknown "Ya Better Stop",an arrangement full of fun, wit, and brassy horns, even ending on the singer's amusing fade out comments.Duets like "Who Wants to be a Millionaire",and "Well did you evah" with Mr. Crosby are just a few more of the fun numbers balancing this collection. As in any large assortment, there are a few near-misses,including a goofy "Sea Song",a 1950's version of turn of the century vaudeville (smaltz?!)But a few near misses don't take away from the fact that there must be at least 50 smashes on here, many difficult to find anywhere else.Bottom Line: This a great collection of Frank, unique from many others, and will never go out of style, and is worth the investment several times over...Listening to Frank's best 1950's recordings put the lie to the common smug comments that the 50's were dull,bland,etc...

5 out of 5 stars Just the best!.......2007-06-03

Think of sophisticated songs, sung by that master of sophisticated songs, Frank Sinatra, such as ..Young at Heart; All the Way; In the Wee Small Hours and nine others of that ilk, played to perfection by that queen of the keyboard, Beegie Adair, and you have a pretty good idea of the contents of this CD. Her jazzy style particularly suits these Sinatra classics and I'm certain that he would have loved them...smooth and sassy. This is a fabulous CD that all lovers of good jazz should have and enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Definitely among the short list of great jazz pianists.......2006-07-18

Reading through some other comments, I'd like to throw in my own three cents. Beegie Adair should indeed be considered among the short list of great jazz pianists. Her recordings are one thing. Here LIVE PERFORMANCES are quite another.

On The Frank Sinatra Collection, Beegie Adair and her trio present the great songs of Frank Sinatra in a, yes, "romantic" and "easy on the ears" format. Intentionally created for dinners, candlelight moments, and those oh-so-grand times of canoodling with your heartmate.

This in no way dismisses her from inclusion among Bill Evans, George Shearing, Erroll Garner, Oscar Peterson, Tommy Flanagan, Gene Harris, et al. Still a sceptic? Go see her live concerts. I've attended dozens of them, and I have every single recording she has made (23 to date).

Again, her recordings are great, no doubt. Her live performances are beyond great. Hear for yourself.

5 out of 5 stars Sinatra Collection.......2006-07-11

I bought this for my husband. He is a big Sinatra fan. He really likes this CD, even though it's not by Sinatra and the songs are all instrumental. The Beegie Adair Trio does a great job jazzing up many of Sinatra's classics, adding their own unique twists here and there. We both enjoy listening to this CD.

3 out of 5 stars The Frank Sinatra Collection .......2006-03-20

I love Beegie Adair's style and am usually happy with the musical arrangements, but this album disappointed me. I expected more energy and pazazz.

5 out of 5 stars Nicely Done.......2004-10-17

Great music. A great tribute to Sinatra. All the songs are great played in Beegie's style. Although "strangers in the night" seems to be too much of the song itself. She need to make that a bit different to me.

Talk about your gifts of Christmas past, The Christmas Collection is a must-have for any Sinatra-phile, right down to its family photos and one priceless shot of Sinatra swinging a golf club next to the tree wearing a Santa suit! Complete with four previously unreleased tracks (some from live TV specials) -- including two with Bing Crosby ("The Christmas Song" and "White Christmas"), the 18-song collection surveys Sinatra's holiday output and its effects are often chilling. Listening to him glide soulfully through Jimmy Webb's melancholy but romantic "What Ever Happened to Christmas?" or hearing him do his immaculate phrasing on "Silent Night" when he was visibly frail and aging in 1991 are close encounters of a Sinatra kind that are rarely captured on one album. There's also a delightful "The Twelve Days of Christmas" sung with his kids Nancy and Frank, Jr., from their 1969 record The Sinatra Family Wish You A Merry Christmas and insightful and intimate liner notes by James Ritz, not to mention those magical orchestral arrangements. Here's a five-star package to remind us that it's still Frank's world--we just rent a stable in it. Highly recommended. --Martin Keller

Album Description

It's starting to sound a lot like an Ol' Blue Eyes Christmas with this hearth and heart-warming TV-marketed collection of Yuletide favorites. On traditional carols and holiday favorites from the American popular soundtrack, no one can deliver a vocal like Sinantra!

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Always the best.......2007-01-20

Don't miss it if you like Frank and you want to live the Christams atmosphere. Good sound quality, fantastic Frank. I recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Great Christmas Classics From a Classic Singer!!.......2007-01-20

This is a great CD for Frank Sinatra fans! Frank's timeless vocals on these classic songs bring back an old-fashioned Christmas feeling! Very enjoyable!!

3 out of 5 stars Not Nearly as Good as "Christmas Songs by Sinatra".......2006-12-20

Bought this CD on the basis of the good reviews here. I like it, but overall, I don't think it touches the quality Frank gives us on "Christmas Songs by Sinatra."

This version relies on lots and lots of choral support -- which isn't my preferred way to hear Sinatra.

"Christmas Songs by Sinatra" contains more straight Sinatra. Also, it has more traditional songs, whereas this CD has lots of songs that I don't think Frank sings as well as the old standards.

Don't get me wrong, I think this CD is fine. But I'd recommend "A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra" and "Christmas Songs by Sinatra" IF you prefer Sinatra singing classic Christmas songs largely on his own.

3 out of 5 stars You can do better.......2006-12-19

Don't be fooled by its funky packaging; this album isn't as cool as it appears to be. Although it does have its redeeming qualities, if you're looking for more traditional Christmas tunes sung by Sinatra, look to another CD. This one seems full of the later years with less well-known songs and somewhat lacking in that vintage Sinatra charm. Still a quality holiday CD, but definitely not my favorite.

4 out of 5 stars The only Sinatra holiday set containing stereo tracks; replaces "The Sinatra Christmas Album".......2006-12-18

If you're looking for a Frank Sinatra holiday music collection that contains his holiday recordings post 1960, then this album is the only way to go. This set supercedes the old 1994 Reprise CD "The Sinatra Christmas Album". "The Christmas Collection" has all thirteen tracks that the "The Sinatra Christmas Album" contained (albeit fully remastered), plus an additional five tracks (four of which are previously unreleased):

- "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm" (recorded on December 21, 1960 and taken from the 1961 Reprise album "Ring-A-Ding Ding!")
- "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" (a recording taken from the Sinatra TV special "Happy Holidays with Bing & Frank" that aired on December 20, 1957)
- "The Christmas Song" (a duet with Bing Crosby that aired on the same 12/20/1957 TV special as the above track)
- "White Christmas" (another duet with Bing Crosby that aired on the same 12/20/1957 TV special as the two above tracks)
- "Silent Night" (vocals recorded by Frank on August, 27 1991; orchestral track recorded on March 23, 2004)

"The Christmas Collection" is also the only current Sinatra holiday album that contains a majority of its tracks in stereo sound (as was the case with "The Sinatra Christmas Album"). But I personally still prefer Sinatra's 1957 holiday album that he recorded for Capitol Records ("A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra"), which was arranged by Gordon Jenkins (even though it's entirely in mono sound). Sinatra's other holiday collection that's still in print (the 1994 Sony compilation "Christmas Songs by Sinatra") contains the holiday tracks he recorded for Columbia Records during the 1940s, and it's also a good set, but still not quite on par with his 1957 holiday album.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Budget CD If You Need Frank With Dorsey.......2007-05-18

If you have a good Tommy Dorsey collection but it is short on Sinatra sides, this fits the bill quite nicely to help fill in the gaps. I might complain that it is missing "East of The Sun", but that is minor for the fact you get most of the cream from their collaberation together.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent sound, good selection.......2004-05-05

These tracks have been recycled many, many times, but it is handy to have them in one great-sounding package, especially for those who don't have the time or the inclination to track them all down elsewhere. 12 tracks is a pretty skimpy these days, but it's a good set and well recommended. Nice liner notes.
