Vocalist Janis Siegel is a member of the world-famous Manhattan Transfer, but she has also released several satisfying records as a solo artist. This CD features Siegel paying tribute to the New York hit-making institution of the '50s and '60s known as the Brill Building, and to female singers. A topflight band accompanies Siegel, including pianist Cedar Walton, tenor saxophonist-flutist David "Fathead" Newman, and trumpeter Tom Harrell. The singer and her soulfully syncopated crew work their magic by recasting tunes such as the Barry Mann-Cynthia Weil gem, "Just a Little Lovin'," and Toni Fisher's "The Big Hurt." Siegel's sophisticated and sensitive vocals also give justice to Dakota Staton's "The Late, Late Show," Etta Jones's "Don't Go to Strangers," and Nancy Wilson's "(I'm Afraid) The Masquerade Is Over." Throughout this project, Siegel unveils her own distinctive voice in a number of genres from mainstream swing and ballads to doo-wop. --Eugene Holley Jr.

Album Description
Top of the British Classical Charts for 10 Weeks! Billboard Top Ten Classical Recording - December 2002! This album gathers together most of the carols I have composed over the years, plus a sprinkling of my arrangements of traditional carols, grouped to form a program which narrates, reflects upon, and celebrates the Christmas story. I have always enjoyed carols ever since I first sang them as a member of my school choir, and it was not long before I began to write carols of my own-in fact my first two published compositions were the Nativity Carol and the Shepherd's Pipe Carol. For any musician involved in choral music, Christmas is an especially joyous time, and I am indeed happy that it has played a part in my musical life for so many years- JOHN RUTTER
Customer Reviews:
Rutter Christmas Album.......2007-05-14
Great selection of music, and well presented. This is however older recordings that do not match the quality of Rutter's latest recordings such as the Te Deum or the Gloria.
Unique and Beautiful!.......2007-03-09
John Rutter, and his beautiful music, is such a gift to the world. This unique Christmas CD is magnificent! Especially touching are two of Rutter's original carols, "Christmas Lullaby" and the joyful "Angels' Carol." The musical selections speak to the soul, helping the listener connect to emotions of joy, peace, faith, hope, and love. This is a worthy addition to your collection of Christmas CDs.
Johh Rutter Chirstmas Album.......2007-02-19
If I were to choose only one Christmas album to ever own, this would be the one. John Rutter is an exceptional composer of religious music, with unusual harmonies. The music is difficult to sing, and because this is his own choir and he is directing it, the performance is flawless. Gives you goosebumps.
Liked it enough to go through a lot of trouble to give it a review........2007-02-07
Great music by John Rutter: Great performance!
John Rutter and Cambridge Singers.......2007-01-18
This is quintessential English cathedral music; beautifully sung. Reminds one of the English Christmas -- warm and serene -- that we've only experienced in our dreams!

In these days of the crossover, it is hardly surprising to find two great opera singers making a foray into numbers from Broadway musicals by such composers as Cole Porter, Stephen Sondheim, and Andrew Lloyd Webber. What's remarkable is that they seem completely at home in this music. Both say they grew up listening to it, and indeed they approach these songs with no less care and seriousness than they'd give the most demanding operatic arias, and without a trace of condescension. However, their vocal, expressive, and interpretive styles are very different, both in the solos and the duets. Terfel projects assertive manliness, tender, intimate affection, and rollicking humor without external effects, using only his incomparably sonorous voice and powerful personality. His diction is impeccably clear, and though he has sometimes let his theatrical flair spill over into Schubert songs, he is the soul of simplicity here. This is in stark contrast to Fleming's tendency to exaggerate colors and dynamics and to turn sentiment into sentimentality. Moreover, though she claims a background as a jazz singer, her "crooning" sounds artificial and unnatural. However, her top notes, culminating in a triumphant high C at the end of the final number, ring gloriously. Her voice glows and shimmers with irresistible luster, soaring from seductive whispers to thrilling climaxes. The program features a great variety of love songs, and includes an antiwar protest (from Beautiful Game), a celebration of the American dream (from Ragtime), and a rousing fun piece (from The Music Man). Unfortunately, even the best songs are marred by thoroughly corny arrangements. Listeners will find their own favorites, but the real "stars" on this record are the two singers. --Edith Eisler
Customer Reviews:
Delightful .......2006-07-24
I truly enjoy Terfel's vocal talent and found it to be well suited for this genre. Fleming's impeccable soprano voice is a bit overpowering for this style of music. (I own this CD)
A Master Class in Singing.......2006-06-20
This CD is a must-have for any person interested in the singing art. Ms. Fleming and Mr. Terfel gives new light to these Musical Theatre classics. Their fine vocalism in the musical theatre genre coupled with the depth of musicality and dramatic phrasing in each of the selections is truly a breath of fresh air. This recording is indeed a Master Class!
Bryn is swell, but the bombast is annoying.......2006-05-03
Love Bryn Terfel, the finest bass-baritone in Opera. Love Renee Fleming's luscious soprano. But the arrangements! Kettle drums and bombast and bang, bang, bang! Once Renee starts swooping, things go downhill, with little redemption.
It starts out beautifully. "Not While I'm Around" has never sounded more intimate to me than Terfel's caressing pianissimo. Fleming's "Moonglow" is stunningly good. Terfel makes a medley out of "I Don't Remember You and Sometimes a Day Goes By" that makes you want to cheer, and Fleming does a lovely Sondheim medley as well. Bryn sings "Stars" and makes me long for him in Les Mis. And then...things tend to go downhill. The bombast takes over and gets to you - it overwhelms two of the biggest voices now recording. Then Fleming begins to swoop and scoop, over-coloring and often coming off as simply self-indulgent, reminding one of a kid who makes a point of putting his face in a camera shot.
I don't mind Bryn as Prof. Harold Hill - I frankly think the Welsh accent is kinda cute - and it doesn't bother me on "Wheels of Dream," either, but Fleming seems to have lost her mind on that great song, and rather than indulging her, it would have simply been better left off the album. Ditto "All that Wasted Time" which is pretty much unlistenable. Ms. Fleming needs to stop thinking she is a jazz singer.
The four stars are because this album does contain some truly GLORIOUS moments, particularly in the duets, and in Terfel's solo's which are warm and memorable. Without him, the kettle drums and Fleming's self-indulgence would have made the whole endeavor unbearable.
Surprisingly Fine Crossover from Fleming and Terfel.......2006-04-18
Bryn Terfel and Renee Fleming are two of the most acclaimed opera singers of our day. But the musical theatre fan who puts on their Broadway CD, RENEE AND BRYN: UNDER THE STARS, expecting to hear a carelessly compiled hodgepodge of songs sung by voices ill-suited to them is in for a big surprise, beginning with the first phrases of the duo's warmly sung "Not While I'm Around" from SWEENEY TODD. True, these singers' beautiful voices have greater power and range than even the best of the Broadway stars', but this is an asset in these songs, most of which are either semi-operatic in nature or call (like THE MUSIC MAN's "Seventy-Six Trombones") for such an outsize personality as Terfel's. Fleming's sensuous and tonally gorgeous rendition of "Moonfall" from THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD can be placed among her very finest recordings, operatic and otherwise. And Terfel is ideally suited to both "Pretty Women" from SWEENEY TODD and "Stars" from LES MISERABLES; few if any Broadway Javerts could match the impact of his "This I swear by the stars!" Kander and Ebb's "I Don't Remember You" and "Sometimes a Day Goes By" make a perfect medley here, as do Sondheim's "I Wish I Could Forget You" and "Loving You" from PASSION. And though I don't care for the Andrew Lloyd Webber selections (ersatz Puccini) or the Jason Robert Brown one (which sounds too much like a pop song), Terfel and Fleming's singing of them is beyond reproach. The program ends with a bang: a rendition of "Wheels of a Dream" worthy to stand beside the now-classic one by Brian Stokes Mitchell and Audra McDonald on the original cast album of RAGTIME. Welshman Terfel's natural accent is noticeable here; but if one imagines him as, say, an Irish immigrant married to an African-American woman (as Fleming here sounds uncannily like McDonald or like Leontyne Price) his accent is appropriate and his voicing of the "bridge" section ("Oh Sarah, it's more than promises/Sarah, it must be true...") especially moving. Fleming's ecstatic final high note makes one want to applaud and cheer, both for the song and for the successful "crossover" effort.
BREATHTAKING VOCAL MAGNIFICENCE~BRAVO!!!.......2004-10-11
So captivating are these incredible singers in the glorious live concert "Under The Stars" creating an unforgettable musical masterpiece of epic proportions that is so moving and great to watch that I ran out and purchased this studio recorded Compact Disc the next day!! The brilliance of the live broadcast carried over into the recording studio capturing Renee and Bryn at the peak of their incredible powers emotionally and vocally making them the most effective crossover artists since the great Barbara Cook who like Miss Cook sing with emotion that is accurate for this type of material which is usually not the case with classical voices. Renee Fleming sings with genuine passion and stirring emotions and her timing is absolutely flawless and this lady has alot of soul and the Torrie Zito arranged "Moonfall" is a stunning masterpiece that clearly illustrates this. A dazzling medley each show both singers in glorious peak form with Bryn splendid in the enchanting "I Don't Remember You/Sometimes A Day Goes By" and Renee spellbinding and haunting in the gorgeous "I Wish I Could Forget You/Loving You" which will make anyone who loves a great voice fall in love with this amazingly gifted singer. "Stars" features a commanding performance from Bryn that raises the roof and this is so refreshing and inspired in these musically tired times!!! This superb showcase is full of wonderfully exciting performances which are capable of making people feel again and this is what is sorely needed in music today and BRAVO to Bryn Terfel and the gorgeous Renee Fleming for achieving this with complete artistic brilliance. Captivating duets fill this wonderous collection and never have classics such as "Not While I'm Around" or "All I Ask Of You" been sung more brilliantly than here. Renee is magical with "Hello, Young Lovers" while Bryn is commanding and winning with "Pretty Women". Renee's stunning "All The Wasted Time" is a vocal and emotional tour-de-force that is like a wild roller-coaster ride that you won't want to end as this is one of the most riveting songs that I have ever heard from a Broadway score and this certainly must be the definitive performance of this great song. This lady can really really sing and this is some deeply serious singing~WOW!!! Gorgeous together again in the beautiful "How Could I Ever Know" which is hair-raising and wonderfully soulful and sophisicated together in Cole Porter's "So In Love". A grand finale by these two awesome vocal wonders lives up to expectations being a complete blowout vocal festival and they definitely do not disappoint here!!! "Wheels Of A Dream" is mesmerizing and soars to magnificent heights with Bryn and Renee in peak form singing to the skies and hitting notes that I swear I have never heard before~BRAVO!!!!!!! You are both magically inspired and simply put as good as it gets!!!! Highly recommended if you love two awesome vocal wonders at their absolute peak in a magnificent beautifully orchestrated setting!!! Thank you Bryn & Renee...

Just amazing.......2001-08-08
This album I got at Disneyland Paris. I saw it and just knew that I had to have it. It's classic disney tunes in the style of the great composers. And it really do remind of them. As a lover of classic music and disney music, this couldn't be a better album.
A Disney Classic!.......2000-03-09
This cd is a great introduction for little ones into the world of classical music. My children ages 6 and 4 have "worn out" their first copy of this lively cd. If you enjoy disney music, this is a must for your children's music library.

Delightful Disney Music.......2007-03-28
These Disney tunes done in the style of classic composers are so much fun. Children and adults alike will enjoy these songs over and over.
Uncle Walt would be quite honored!.......2006-12-20
For many a baby boomer, Walt Disney meant animation. But, besides that, music played an important part in the telling of the story. So interested in music was the animator that he fashioned one of his greatest triumphs ("Fantasia") on the works of the great masters.
Well, Donald Frasier and a bevy of musicians have compiled a wonderful collection of interpretations of familiar Disney tunes, many from Walt's time, along with a few latter day compositions.
Every selection is a winner, destined to make the listener reflect and recall the films from which they came. And if one is familiar with composer whose musical style is "copied" here, the album is a treasure.
Fabulous CD.......2006-10-04
Being a classical music connoisseur, I often listen to my local public classical radio station to hear the works of the great composers of old and of today. One day the station played "Colors of the Wind" and announced it was from this CD. I fell in love with it. I am a huge Disney fan who has over 350 Disney songs on my iPod. Pretty much the only music I listen to is either classical or Disney. And having them combined makes this CD euphoria for the ears.
Each song is in the style of a different classical composer, and usually in the style of one of their more specific songs. One with a trained ear will hear chords and melodies in almost perfect similitude of the original.
I can listen to this CD over and over and never get bored. How could you be bored when you're hearing all of your favorite old Disney songs in a new exciting way?
sleeping to Disney.......2006-07-30
I am really pleased that there is a classical music cd that has only Disney classics so that I can play them for my infant daughter while she sleeps. We are big Disney fans and it's fun to play these instead of the regular classical music. They sound just like the original songs. I would have given 5 stars but I wish they would have had all instrumental music, one of the songs has a choir singing, but it still sound good.
this is a treasure.......2003-05-11
Disney music is always uplifting. Classical music is beautiful. Combine the two - and you get THIS! "Colors of the Wind" is glorious, followed by the enchanting title track. "Beauty and the Beast" is true to the romance of the original. "The Second Star to the Right" is magical. Everything is awesome - and flawless. I initially bought this because I love The Main Street Electrical Parade music, and that is definiely a highlight here - but so are ALL the other songs! This is GOOD STUFF! It is so excellent that it can be a very beneficial introduction to classical music - for kids AND adults.

Back to when I believed in fairy tales...........2002-09-30
If you could, just for a moment, return to the days when fairy godmothers were real, when you really could turn four white mice into four white horses - then just buy this CD for a few smiles, a lot of memories, and the original Rodgers and Hammerstein tunes. This CD took me way back to when magic was there, and now it makes me wonder, everytime I listen to it, if maybe the magic isn't still there? Maybe I should just call on my fairy godmother..... A true heirloom of a CD.
The Glass Slipper Fits!.......2001-04-21
This is an excellent compilation of songs that express the longings, fears and exuberance of the Cinderella story. Rather than just relying of the romantic side of the myth, producer Bruce Kimmel adds depth to the story by including songs from The Slipper and The Rose and Sondheim's Into the Woods as well as the Disney and Roger & Hammerstein Cinderella versions.
When Susan Egan plans her strategy in "Promise Him Anything" and Pamela Winslow expresses her fear in "On the Steps of the Palace," the listener becomes aware of Cinderella's human side. Likewise, when Christa Moore shares her fantasy world "In My Own Corner" and Christina Noll expresses her thrill of her dream coming true in "Impossible/Suddenly It Happens," the listener is reminded of the powerful message of Cinderella's theme: dreams DO come true.
Fortunately, the compilation does not exclude humor as well. "The Stepsister's Lament" by Farah Alvin and Alet Oury is hilariously poignant; the lyrics "Why would a fellow want a girl like her? A frail and frocky beauty!" could be the alltime wallflowers' lament. And Jonathan Freeman's "What Has Love Got to Do with Getting Married?" is a droll piece of practical cynicism to his Prince son. (The song reminds me of the film Moonstruck. When Olympia DuKakis asks her daughter Cher, "Do you love him?" When Cher answered affirmatively, her mother muttered, "That's bad.")
Also, the musical bridges add to the suspense of the Cinderella story. "Midnight", "The Ball," and "If The Shoe Fits" from Prokofiev's ballet are beautifully orchestrated and remind the listener that the Cinderella myth is adaptable for many forms of entertainment.
I was a little disappointed that "So This is Love" and "The Work Song" was not included, but I guess I'm partial to the Disney version. The 1950 cartoon was my first introduction to Cinderella, and to my delight, my nephew enjoyed it as well thirty years later.
Nevertheless, this CD shows the timeless appeal of the Cinderella myth. Its beauty, humor and suspense is contained here in this magnificent collection.
Magical collection fit for a princess!.......1999-04-13
I was thrilled to come across this collection. One of my favorite movies, The Slipper and the Rose, had been out of print for many years. This CD includes 4 of the songs from that movie and though not by the original artists, just as good. The songs range from the whimsical to the romantic to a few comic gems, all from various stage and film Cinderella scores. "Tell Him Anything" from the Slipper and the Rose, a powerful song filled with longing and despair is sung movingly by Susan Egan, a nice change of pace from the cheerier, more sparkling numbers.
The score from Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella is so charming and catchy it's fun to hear it again by new artists. The performers, all apparently Broadway singers (?), are all beautifully performed with exuberance and style. The orchestration is lush and appropriate to the material.
Fabuloso!!!! A must have!!!!.......1998-08-11
This is an AWESOME cd. It has songs from the original Rodgers and Hammerstein version, the Disney version, and Into the Woods. This is a faboulos collection of songs. Definetly buy it. NOW!!!!!

Amazing Live Performer @ 78 yrs. Young.......2006-11-15
My husband were priviledged to catch Keely live in a one-night concert at the Cerritos Center in Southern California recently. She performed a 90 minute show based on the Prima years @ The Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. With Nelson Riddle arrangements and a smokin' ensemble backing her up, Keely was ALIVE and her voice has not aged at all. She is slated to sing on Valentine's Day 2007 in Palm Desert @ the McCallum Center. If you're a Baby Boomer like myself and was too young to hear Keely live in the Rat Pack era. This is a rare opportunity. Don't miss Keely now.
Her first solo effort.......2003-12-17
Behind every man there is a good woman, or so the saying goes. In this case the woman behind, alongside and eventually stepping in front of bandleader and husband Louis Prima, was Keely Smith. Louis Prima somehow has not been given his proper dues in jazz circles(because it wasn't pure even though it was New Orleans influenced) but this duo, along with the with the Witnesses, were the jazzy, creative and exciting pulse of live early Las Vegas acts. Stemming from an early High Fidelity recording from back in the day(60's?) Keely Smith was paired with the magical arrangements and conducting of Nelson Riddle for this her first solo release. The results are a recording for the ages that was obviously good enough to have Capital dig into it's vaults and spruce it up a bit with some alternate tracks for an added dimension is sound. The new interest in Keely Smith is due to her own cotinued recording and recent releases such as her successful tribute disc to Sinatra. Keely Smith is a wonderful talent who displays all the classic characteristics of a fine jazz songbird. Her ability to gently swing in a provacative seductive style sucks the listener in to her smoky voice. The title track is absolutely amazing as she renders the lyrics to the classic song, "I Wish You Love. " This particular song captures the essence and demonstrates the epitome of Keely Smith. Another beautiful song(they all are) is "If We Never Meet Again" that is a suttle reminder of her elegance and charm as she croons the lost love ballad. In the song she vows to let the "birds of spring" and "the roses" remind her of her everlasting love. She must have been a romantic at heart because all the the playfullness demonstrated on her recordings with Louis Prima is absent; it is all business and straight up ballads here. "Fools Rush In" is a beautiful collaboration with the band of Nelson Riddle where the give and take is a perfect marriage. Without a doubt she has one of the voices that melts a mans heart, stretching her notes and softly carresing you with her pillow talk voice. Her voice can be a bit difficult to pin down because it flucuates in range from a thick Cher(bad comparison but you get the point) like voice to a whispery songstress in the style of all the great songbirds who came before her. Her voice is the real draw but the work by Nelson Riddle and the great big band sound that interupts is a welcome treat. The band moves and swings but Keely Smith is stirrng this sleek vechicle down the musical road. This was a departure album for Keely Smith, one intended for her to show her stuff without the rousing husband and wife act she put on with Louis Prima that made her famous to the Las Vegas crowds. She has a marvelous voice that rivals or exceeds many of today's more contemporary female vocalists. Her voice is one that comes across effortlessly a though nothing is forced; she is an underrated female vocalist who belongs on a short list of great American twenty first century singers. Her breezy style has influenced a long list of contemporary singers. In any event this is a very good disc, especially for those unfamiliar with Keely Smith who was more than just the singing sidekick and wife of Louis Prima. Highly recommended for people that like swinging music that has stood the test of time. A truly classic recording then and now.
FIVE STARS FOR KEELY!.......2003-11-12
For all the hype of the packed rooms in Vegas over the years and from the time she hooked up with husband/bandleader/crazy Italiano Louis Prima, Keely Smith was a chanteuse in the waiting. When the idea was pitched that she could in fact compete in a market with other female songstresses, Smith was thrilled to do so. Husband Louis Prima let his songbird fly freely and advised Capitol bigwigs to let her do whatever she wanted, so long as she had the best to work with. Capitol willingly obliged to Prima (and Keely) in a big way, pairing her with the incomparable Nelson Riddle for her first outing, I WISH YOU LOVE. (They would collaborate again for another package, included on the Collectables release POLITELY / SWINGIN' PRETTY)
The tale's been told by Keely many times of how her signature recording came to be: Capitol producers brought her a stack of songs, lastly, I WISH YOU LOVE, a French song that "would never amount to anything". Labeled as a throw away, Keely immediately fell in love with it and bargained that if allowed to record it, she'd do whatever other numbers Capitol wanted. With all this agreeing going on, it's no wonder Keely Smith fans call this album her very finest! But there's more to this album than history or a stunningly gorgeous torchy title track. Nelson Riddle wrote some great charts for Keely to swing with as well; DON'T TAKE YOUR LOVE FROM ME being one of them, as well as WHEN YOUR LOVER HAS GONE. Two songs from either side of the "love-line", both classics read with style here. Keely's dreamy version of IMAGINATION inspired all others to follow. With an ethereal sound from the woodwinds, and Keely's trademark plaintive voice soaring just when it needs to over this lovely Burke / Van Heusen evergreen, it runs a close second to the title track as the album's best offering. The heartfelt reading Keely and Nelson provide of the old Louis Armstrong chestnut, IF WE NEVER MEET AGAIN (recently recorded by Tony Bennett and Kd Lang with equally lovely results as a duet.) sits right in the middle of the album, and is not to be missed. Nelson Riddle was a master at his craft, perhaps one of the best arrangers to have ever lived, and he always got the most out of any singer he ever worked with (he had Peggy Lee hitting high notes in full voice years after her breathy phrasing became her trademark sound; and Shirley Bassey hit notes on Riddle charts she never accomplished again) I point to the lovely song I UNDERSTAND on this album and direct your attention to the tag on the ending. Riddle ushers out the orchestra and the chorus sings a refrain, compelling Keely to answer in a lovely high noted closing tag that caps off the song perfectly. Ever a fan of the Jerome Kern evergreen ALL THE THINGS YOU ARE, I was amazed at the fresh approach Nelson and Keely take to make a swinger of this one. This is probably the best of the bonus tracks (it was inexplicably omitted from the original LP) but the stark yet moving 'original' version of I WISH YOU LOVE definitely gives we fans a chance to do the comparison and judge for ourselves, and also offers insight as to the work and thought put in by all parties involved to get the "proper" version of the song out, which brings us now to full circle. Without running on any further, this album IS Keely's finest hour, and well worth the waiting for.

Great compilation.......2002-05-10
I don't actually own this particular compilation, however, since I own nearly every recording represented on these discs...I think I'm qualified to comment. This is a wonderful representation of the high quality of work that DRG Records does.
The previous review is way off the mark. This is definitely not a waste of time or money. This is 25 years of preserving Broadway shows, Off-Broadway shows, studio recordings (mostly from the city center concerts), etc. So what if they "aren't as good as the original", DRG is preserving many recordings and artists that other mainstream labels don't or won't. You have wonderful recordings from Brian Stokes Mitchell, Nathan Lane, Debbie Gravitte, Tyne Daly, Anthony Perkins, Joanna Gleason, Marin Mazzie, Carol Burnett, Heather Headley, Patti LuPone, Barbara Cook, etc., and many of these are from Original Cast Recordings just as they appeared on Broadway. This is an excellent sampler of the work going on at DRG. No...I'm not an employee...just an avid listener and collector of theatre recordings.
A disappointment.......2001-12-15
There's a reason you've probably never heard of most of the songs and shows on this album, not to mention most of the artists. This is a second-rate collection of second-rate numbers performed by mostly second-rate artists. In the case of the shows that were revivals, the performances on the original cast recordings were better. Don't waste your money.

Arguably "The Best" English "Merry Widow ".......2006-09-12
This is the "Merry Widow" with English translation by Christopher Hassel sung by June Bronhill. I loved this rendition ever since I first heard it in about 1960. What's to love? First the translation is the best I've heard. The language doesn't sound "stilted" as some others. And, you can understand almost every word sung. Plus, the famous song, "Vilja" has some wording that moves me every time I hear it: The soprano sings, "Love me and I'll DIE for you!" with the word "die" somewhat emphasized. I don't know, there's just something "powerful" about someone saying they'd "die" for love! AND, at the end of "Vilja" the chorus and soprano raise to a crescendo hitting a high note together. In many renditions the chorus is heard but not the soprano on the final high note. In THIS version, the soprano, June Bronhill, can be heard rising to the final high note with an incressing crescendo and fortissimo louder than the chorus and holding the final high note---which gives a very thrilling effect as she holds that final note, I assure you!
The "problem" is that this June Bronhill, Reid, and Hassel version is hard to find on CD. For example, this CD is made in Holland and "there is one left" so it says on Amazon. But, if you can find it, I think it would be very much worth a listen. Then, after hearing it, if you think there's a "better" Merry Widow, please let ME know! Thanks. Email:boland7214@aol.

Sheri Petta - who would a thunk?.......2007-02-17
I heard a cut from Sheri Petta and enjoyed it so I ordered her only album and have played it over and over. She is gifted with a silky smooth syrupy voice - a torch singer with soul and perfect pitch - a real find.

Smooth Renditions.......2006-03-20
A superb CD. Silky voiced, smooth renditions of classic numbers excellently produced with very professional backing. Well worth a listen.
Beautiful Fresh New Voice.......2006-01-22
Sherry Petta's music resonates with a fresh new sound. Her voice is clear and clean...reminds me of listening to jazz in a hot club, but without any smoky haze... a contemporary sound for today. I have given Sherry's CD as a gift to many friends and they all enjoy listening to it over and over again. The lilt in Sherry's voice is just charming. Buy this CD today for hours of listening pleasure.
Magical!.......2006-01-18
You must buy this CD. While visiting Arizona recently, I heard a song from this CD on the radio. I figured the singer was some famous person, and then I heard the DJ say it was from an "upcoming star". Well he was right. This woman can sing! All of the songs put you in a calm, relaxing, and "feel good" state of mind. In short, Sherry Petta's music is magical! I highly recommend it.
