The score, an early collaboration from Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick (SHE LOVES ME, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF) is very strong, and includes several show-pieces like "Politics and Poker", "Little Tin Box" and "On the Side of the Angels".

Ellen Hanley (who had previously been criminally under-used as Polly Bergen's understudy in FIRST IMPRESSIONS) glows in the role of feisty Thea, the sweatshop workers' leader. She has two of the score's best ballads, "'Til Tomorrow" and "When Did I Fall in Love".

Pat Stanley (who earned a Tony for her performance in the disastrous GOLDILOCKS) gets the cute number "I Love a Cop". Eileen Rodgers (who later starred in a successful off-Broadway revival of ANYTHING GOES) sings the showstopping "Gentleman Jimmy", a manic flapper tune. FIORELLO! is a fantastic show in that it has no less than 3 strong female roles.

For those who only started following Tom Bosley's career during his 'Happy Days', the fact that he was a top-drawer musical theater talent will come as a big surprise. Bosley played the entire run of 795 performances. Bosley later made many more successful Broadway appearances including BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and (as of this review's writing) a triumphant stint in the Sam Mendes revival of CABARET.

This lovely reissue on the Angel Broadway label sounds as fresh as paint. An excellent remaster job and an excellent cast album.

I can't stop loving you, Peggy !!!.......2002-08-02

This set contains a mix of songs that is typical of Peggy's repertoire, including songs from the Great American Songbook (on this set, generally not the well known ones) and more contemporary songs. The album opens with the upbeat A lot of livin' to do. There is a well-balanced mix of uptempo songs and ballads, all of which Peggy sings extremely well, including great covers of Unforgettable and The boy from Ipanema.

To understand what Peggy Lee does to a song, just listen to her exquisite version of I can't stop loving you. This classic was written by country singer Don Gibson and was a country hit for him. More famously, it was covered by Ray Charles, who had a #1 hit in both Britain and America with it. I've heard many versions, male and female, but Peggy stamps her own identity on it, slowing it down and sounding very seductive. Of all the singers who ever covered this song, Peggy is the one who most deserves to get her partner back, based on the way she sings the song.

Although still available at the time of this review, I think it may actually be out of print - it's listed as Limited Availability at Amazon UK - so to be sure of getting your copy, buy while stocks are still available.

The songs lift your spirits beyond belief. They just make you feel you are up there on that stage with the cast. You would understand why the songs are on this cd and the order they are in as they happen in the show if you saw it first, but trust me you can listen to the cd before you see the show.
The cast featured on this cd are Australias best!
TODD MCKENNEY (Singin'In the Rain, Crazy for You, 42nd Street, Strictly Ballroom{movie})just to name a few, Plays Peter Allen.
CHRISSIE AMPHLETT (The lead singer in the band "The Divinyls", plus several shows) plays JUDY GARLAND.
