Engelbert Humperdinck, who at the circa 1968 height of his career shared a manager with fellow hunk Tom Jones, has never enjoyed the campy appreciation that has come to Jones in recent years--mostly because he's way too earnest compared to the teasingly all-man singer of "What's New Pussycat" and "She's a Lady." Humperdinck certainly deserves a place on some space-age bachelor's mix tape with the quietly ebullient "Quando Quando Quando," the quietly invitational "Winter World of Love," and the quietly fatalistic "Les Bicyclettes de Belsize"--maybe yours. Great album!!.......2007-04-28

I actually ordered this with with another item, this album has reach me, but the other item is still waiting for stock i presume..

Anyway, i am always a fan of oldies, but, i oftenest prefer compilation albums with various artist rather than a single artist.

But this album is an exception, it has all the songs that we all know.., such as "Release Me", "Quando, Quando, Quando".., "Am I That Easy To Forget ", "A Man Without Love", "There Goes My Everything", and my most favourite "The Last Waltz"..

The sound quality is awesome, it's an original recording remastered.., based on the info, it was first released back at the year of 1974, a good work for remastered this one.

Get one today for your oldies collection!

i grew up together with engelbert's songs - i'm born in 1942...this cd was gift to my cousin - she was missing this record so i bought it for her birthday...

His Of His Prime In One Collection.......2006-07-25

This CD is a re-issue of an album originally released on the Parrot label in the US in the early 70's and contains most of Engelbert's Top 40 hits and more memorable album cuts. Licensing conflicts between record companies lead to the exclusion of some early 70's material that was (like this album) originally issued on the Parrot label but overall this one disc set captures about 85 percent of Engelbert's most memorable hit material. This set does pre date 1976's "After The Lovin" album and single so that material is not included. Among the radio hits featured are Top 20 staples like "A Man Without Love", "Am I That Easy To Forget", "Winter World Of Love", and of course his break out hit "Release Me". For the casual fan or the budget conscious this is a good set.

Engelbert Humperdinck `s name has remained for almost five decades in the great musical stages. In Spain there is a term that fits so well to describe his magnetism: Duende.

He shone with radiant intensity in the Age of the great crooners, the most difficult, indeed: Frankie, Tony Bennet, Andy Williams, Dean Martin, Matt Monroe, Bobby Vinton, Booby Goldsboro, Glenn Campbell, O.C. so many great songs, so many compilations.......2005-01-18

Engelbert is long overdue a three disc box set to contain some of the fantastic songs from the first dozen or so years of his nearly four decade long career, those melodies that hold so many memories, sung to perfection by "The King of Romance"; for now they are scattered among dozens of CDs, and to get all one's favorites means purchasing multitudes of compilations. Though practically all will include "Release Me", there are lesser known beauties that are "must haves". This is a terrific grouping, and the rarity on it is "Ten Guitars", and to a lesser extent "Everybody Knows (We're Through)", which is sung from a woman's point of view, and from his first "Release Me" LP, the wonderful Herman's Hermits hit "There's a Kind of Hush (All Over the World)", and "My World" (sometimes listed as "Il Mondo").

Also included is the song I could listen to for hours, "The Way it Used to Be", the exquisite "Les Bicyclettes de Belsize", and the waltz to end all waltzes, "The Last Waltz". These are all the original recordings, and the sound is O.K., though not as good when compared to "Ultimate Collection" or "Greatest Love Songs", which are two compilations that are on the top of the heap for excellence, and deserve to be in every Engelbert collection.
The booklet insert includes a mini bio and most appreciated, a U.K. and U.S. singles chart history from 1967 to 1970, and total playing time is 43'19.

Great voice, great songs.......2001-02-01

Born in Madras, India, in 1936, Arnold Dorsey, a.k.a. Englebert Humperdinck, became one of the best pop singers of the late 60's through the 70's, and even up to the present. This collection contains his greatest hits between the period of 1966 to 1969, plus 5 songs that weren't released as singles but were still very popular during that time...and of course, they still are. These are songs that will always be good to listen to. Booklet contains a 2 page essay about E.H, plus a U.K. & U.S. Singles Chart History, which is very informative.

Not Quite........2003-03-22

The album is a great bargain, price wise. "What's New Pussycat" alone is reason to buy it. Throw in "Green Green Grass of Home", "Thunderball", "Promise Her Anything", and "Release Me", and you've got your money's worth. But how?, how do you NOT include "Bicyclettes de Belsize",and "After the Lovin"?
It coulda been a contenda.

This CD/Album was my personal introduction to Englebert Humperdinck. I bought it cheap and out of curiousity:It turned out to be one of my favorites! While already being familiar with Tom Jones, I took a stab at Englebert and was blown away! Tom Jones has better Best of.. titles, so to me this is purely Englebert at his best.

Two great voices on one disc.......1999-06-30

These two gents have a couple of the greatest voices ever to sing a song. It is true that the selections on this disc are unusual(and not their greatest hits, actually), but believe me, they are brilliant. Probably the two best on this disc would be Tom Jones' version of Burt Bachrach's "Promise Her Anything," and Englebert Humperdinck's version of "Yours Until Tomorrow." Anyhow, those of you who are already fans of these two men will be pleased by the disc, and those who aren't fans may very well be converted after listening to this relatively low cost record.

One of the better "Best Of" albums in recent years. Thankfully lounge music is making such a strong comeback!

fabulous voices, less than great song selection.......2004-09-06

Two of the most celebrated voices of a few decades ago, this CD is not exactly a collection of their "greatest hits" from that era, but though not the best overall selection of songs, there are still many fabulous tracks, my favorites being "Thunderball" and "With These Hands" for Jones, and "What Now My Love" and "Quiet Nights" for Humperdinck.
Both singers, with their respective phenomenal talents, have managed to survive into the 21st century, the changing tides of the music industry, and the bumpy road of fame, and are still giving concerts and having good careers.

"It's Not Unusual" put Jones on the map in 1965, and "Release Me" did the same for Humperdinck in '67, and both these songs are included on this CD, and are sure to bring back memories to their fans. For me, "Release Me" always brings back the memory of seeing Humperdinck in concert at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles in the early '70s, where he wore a jacket with "Release Me" in lights.
Though the songs could have been better for a hits compilation, there is enough greatness in the voices of these two fantastic singers alone to merit a 5 star rating, and as an avid Engelbert fan, and a moderate Jones fan, it's fun to hear them both on one disc.
The sound is O.K., and total time is 43'11.

Not quite their greatest hits........2003-03-29

This cd is worth getting just for "What's New Pussycat".Great song."Green Green Grass of Home", "Thunderball", and "Promise Her Anything" are also marvelous contributions from Mr. Jones. He is one of the few artists that can pull off such a wide variety of material and yet, make them all uniquely his "Sound". Englebert has some good moments too, but how in the world do they leave off "Bicyclettes De Belsize", and "After the Lovin'"? Who compiles these albums? Oh well, all in all not a bad disc.

If you want a different mood setting this will do it for you and still hear that wonderful spectacular voice. No one would ever mistake this voice for anyone else. It is so powerful.

I am bowled over by this singer...the arrangements are great, the music is dreamy, soothing, and that voice....I can't get enough of the album. The best cut is "The Power of Love" but all the songs are very good - including the standards of course.

If you only have one Engelbert CD, make it this one! It has all the hits that everyone recognizes, such as "Last Waltz" & "Release Me", but it also has alot of uptempo & Spanish-flavored songs that one would not expect from this artist. "Radio Dancing", "Portofino", "Under the Man in the Moon" & "Spanish Night is Over" are some personal faves of mine, because of the uptempo beats. I highly recommend this for every EH fan!
