Long derided by critics as unoriginal and uninspired, Saliva has gained popularity among legions of rock & roll fans eager to celebrate good times with a bottle of domestic beer at their sides and their fists thumping high, high in the air. Blood Stained Love Story seems unlikely to change critical minds--much of the album, including "Ladies and Gentlemen," "Never Gonna Change" and the unimaginatively titled "Twister" comes off like warmed-over '80s hair metal. While it's true that the record features blazing guitar leads and drumming that'll hasten the beats of the average rock-starved heart, it seems unlikely that it--or the band that created it--will make an entry into the pantheon of timeless rock & roll. Thoroughly disposable. --Jedd Beaudoin
Album Description
For gold-selling Memphis turbo-rockers Saliva, the past couple years of their decade-long career have brought an ocean swell of change. One or more members have had children, stopped drinking, ended longterm relationships, gotten married and/or left the group, and each instance has been accompanied by a new sense of clarity.
As a result, Saliva's fifth album Blood Stained Love Story resounds with a previously untapped level of passion, energy, sincerity and diversity, not to mention an undeniable melodicism that will endear the band to anyone that feels any sort of connection between reality and music.
"I think we've all been through a blood stained love story of one type or another," says frontman Josey Scott. "It's kind of a metaphor for how things can be a certain way for so long, and then within a day, they just change and you're on this whole other path."
Blood Stained Love Story is an album of growth, a realization that there are more important things in life than cover stories, photo shoots and big Hollywood parties. But while it may be more mature than Saliva's past efforts, it's no less turbulent.

Recent discover of an instant classic.......2007-05-20
Every once in a while, a band releases a CD that is great from beginning to end. Saliva did that with "Blood Stained Love Story". Although my first experience with this band is on this CD alone, and I have not yet had the pleasure of experiencing their previous works, I am looking forward to enjoying their other efforts as well. I am not one of these people who expect a band to have a similar sound throughout their careers, to me that shows no artistic venture. So, when any band releases a new CD, I enjoy it for the fact that it is a new production. Whatever it is that they (Saliva) have done in the past will be enjoyed as the separate works of art they have produced for my listening pleasure. "Blood Stained Love Story" is a great introduction to Saliva's music for me, and I look forward to their future works as well.
Saliva is back with a decent album.......2007-05-01
Two and a half years since thier last album (and worst) the boys from Memphis are back with a decent album. Better than their "Survival of the Sickest" (3 stars) but not as good as "Every 6 Seconds" or "Back into Your System" (both 4.5 stars). The main reason, to me anyway, is the growing amount of slower songs the groups puts out. Shorter than their other albums with only 10 songs, 1 is almost a classic, 1 I skip, 5 are good and the other 3 are ok. While it's a decent album and a good one for their fans, I prefer their earlier work more.

Saliva flirts with power ballads and mainstream rock.......2007-04-26
THE BAND: Josey Scott (vocals), Wayne Swinny (guitars), Dave Novotny (bass), Paul Crosby (drums & percussion).
THE DISC: (2007) 10 tracks clocking in at approximately 40 minutes. Included with the disc is a 10-page booklet containing song titles/credits, song lyrics, one band photo and thank you's. All songs written by Saliva and producer Bob Marlette. Recorded at The Blue Room in Woodland Hills, CA. Label - Island Records.
COMMENTS: A lot has happened since this band formed in '96 in Memphis, TN. From a nice beginning in the alternative/nu-metal/post-grunge category in the late 90's, to a more calm and slick, well produced rock album in 2007. Saliva no longer belongs with the nu-metal acts like Korn, P.O.D., Mudvayne, Papa Roach, and Linkin Park. Instead, they can join the likes of Nickelback, Creed, Puddle Of Mudd, Buckcherry and Staind. Not necessarily a bad thing - just depends on your individual tastes. Fans that heralded their older albums as their best material will no doubt cry SELL OUT on "Blood Stained Love Story". I, for one, was not a huge fan of their first (major) album, "Every Six Seconds" (2001). I've never been a nu-metal fan, so most of this disc went right by me. "Back Into Your System" (2002) still may be their most complete album to date... and even in '07, it's still my favorite of theirs... balancing post grunge, hard rock, and minimizing the rap (not to mention one of their best songs in their catalog, "Superstar II"). Saliva's 3rd album "Survival Of The Sickest" (2004) is a good album, but the writing was on the wall - and you could see the band was leaning toward mainstream rock - almost no rap or nu-metal feel, and the emergence of the rock power ballad(s). And that brings us to "Blood Stained Love Story". Two immediate hits with "Ladies And Gentleman (reaching #1 on the US Mainstream Rock chart) and "Broken Sunday" (reaching #34). To be honest, when I heard first heard "Ladies And Gentlemen", it really caught my attention because I thought it was a new song from Doug Pinnick and King's X. Both these songs are worthy of being overplayed - wonderful melodies and crunchy guitars. I predict the next hit might well be the first ballad on the album, "Never Gonna Change". Other highlights include the hard rocking "King Of The Stereo", the mid tempo rocker "One More Chance", and the heaviest tune on the disc, "Black Sheep". Perhaps a few too many rock ballads here ("Going Under", "Starting Over" and "Here With You" to name a few more), but over all a very listenable album. This is the 1st Saliva album where I don't find myself skipping tracks. Side note: I never really gave Saliva much credit in the beginning. But, hearing their music on several Playstation-2 games, on ESPN Sportscenter, several movie soundtracks (Spiderman, Daredevil, Fast & Furious, Talladega Nights, etc), having the song "Ladies And Gentleman" used for several professional sports team pregame warm-ups, and recently opening for Aerosmith and Kiss - I'm convinced Saliva has made a name for themselves [...]. Good album, though not what I was expecting - in a good way (4+ stars).
A Good Album.......But Could Be A lot Better!!!!.......2007-04-11
I will admit I've been a Saliva fan since "Every Six Seconds" first came out, But I've also wondered why they can't seem to make another record as good as that one. As good as 2002's "Back Into Your System" was it never came close, in fact it included the first of their songs that I got very tired of hearing (Always) and the second (Rest In Pieces)...Even though they are both great songs. Fast forward to 2004 and we got "Survival Of The Sickest" an album that was a step forward, but still not great. It had kind of a cool southern rock feel to it at times. Which isn't a bad thing, but it still didn't feel like a genuine Saliva record to me.
So, When I first heard that "Blood Stained Love Story" was coming out in January, I got really excited. I figured maybe this was what I had been waiting for, a return to form. However, when I heard the album I was once again disapointed. It starts out okay....with the first single "Ladies And Gentleman" and "Broken Sunday"....Then it takes a wierd turn downward with "Never Gonna Change" which sounds like it could have easily been done by Clay Aiken or any of the other American Idol contestants. It's a slow song that sounds like a drum machine behind it, instead of Paul Crosby. But, I made myself listen further and It improves slightly with "King Of The Stereo" perhaps the only song that sounds like a saliva song on the whole disc. "One More Chance" and "Going Under" are both pretty descent songs, but when I listened to "Twister" I remember thinking, What the hell happened? It has to be the worst track on here, it's a very experimental song that I have yet to explain. It is however the records closer that is the most impressive, "Here With You" could very well be the nicest, most heart-felt thing this band has written. In one part he sings "I will come to you in a dream my friend, To love you when I'm gone". Overall this album is okay....But not great. This band could have done a whole lot better and I'm still hoping that the next album will be. On average, I wouldn't recommend this whole album to anyone, just the last song. If you want to hear Saliva at their best...I recommend the debut album, with that one you can't go wrong.
Stand Out Tracks:
"Here With You"
"King Of The Stereo"
"Broken Sunday"
"Ladies And Gentleman"
Copycats should be their name.......2007-04-07
Every song on this CD sounds as though these guys sat down and listened to other bands and then tweeked the tune a little. The second song on the CD sounds like Animals from Nickelback. If you know who Galactic Cowboys are then you'll recognize Ladies And Gentlemen etc... The best song might be Blacksheep but every song on here got copyed from someone.

Cynical types will accuse Disney of milking the "greatest" concept until it's drier than Tinkerbell's fairy dust ("Supercalafragilisticexpealidocious," "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Da," and "Heigh Ho" were hits off of Vol. 1; "Bare Necessities," "It's a Small World," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come" stole the show on Vol. 2), but a glimpse of this installment's track listing is all it'll take to squash their suspicions. Once again running reverse-chronologically, Vol. 3 opens with Jonatha Brooke's gorgeously achy ballad "I'll Try," from 2002's arguably not-so-great Return to Neverland, and gradually reaches back through the years to re-raise the curtain on Toy Story 2 ("When She Loved Me," performed by Sarah McLachlan), The Lion King ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight"), Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews's classic "A Spoonful of Sugar"), Pinocchio ("Give a Little Whistle"), and a bundle of treasured others, bottoming out at 1933's "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" from The Three Little Pigs. Vol. 3 is not without its weak moments--would a G-rated movie-goers' poll produce Beauty and the Beast's "Gaston" or The Hunchback of Notre Dame's "Topsy Turvy" on a hits list? Seems unlikely. Still, the bulk of these tracks are, as the included Little Mermaid song goes, "Part of Your World," and the spread of decades they represent proves their staying power. Don't expect Disney to latch the lid on its inexhaustible archives until a dozen or so of these records, each as strong as the next, beckon you back for more. --Tammy La Gorce

above 18 but still have some kid in them
Timeless Disney Music.......2007-05-07
Nothing brings sweet recollection of Disney movies like hearing the wonderful songs. In an age where there so much music with no redeeming qualities, these Disney CDs are priceless. Wonderful for the entire family to listen to around the house or in the car while traveling. We can't help but sing along. We love that these are the original tracks from the movies! Wonderful! We now have all three volumes.
Disney songs are the best.......2006-03-18
I love the songs on this volume. I'll Try by Jonatha Brooke is such an amzing somg. I especially bought this CD fort that song but, was pleasantly surprsed by the rest of the playlist.
Great Disney Music.......2006-02-21
I have bought the first 2 volumes of Disney's Greatest Hits and the 3rd volume doesn't disapoint. My 2 young children love to listen to this CD and talk about the movies that they come from. A definate must have!
Not as good as Vol 1 and Vol 2.......2005-09-11
This Disney CD represents the "leftovers" that didn't make it on Vol 1 and Vol 2 of this series. Although it has some of my favorites, I don't listen to the entire CD often. Disney could have done a better job of editing the which sound files should make the cut on this one. Still, it's nice to have all 3 CDs.

Eh, It's Okay.......2007-04-24
For those that purchase soundtrack collages to have a variety of songs and themes, then this is good for you. Unfortunately, these tracks didn't have the signature Erich Kunzel version of the songs as he had on other soundtrack mix CDs. It was more like just that, a mix CD of different soundtracks and scores. However, it was a good buy in the fact that the tracks chosen had excellent sound quality and a sense of harmony.
We really enjoyed hearing all of the old movie themes.......2005-09-30
we put this CD in on a long road trip. We played a guessing game as to which one knew the movie. The music was excellent.
Outstanding Film Music.......2005-09-10
This is an outstanding collection of film music. The sound is qulity is very good. The selections cover a good range from various film genres and time periods. I like this CD.
An Interesting and Gratifying Volume 1.......2005-08-22
Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops' interpretation of film scores on this first tribute to Hollywood is somewhat a mixed bag. A SUMMER PLACE was beautifully executed and true to the nature of this sensitive film that was made during a time of innocence. The BEN HUR, CAPTAIN BLOOD and OUT OF AFRICA selections were good. The interpretation of GOLDFINGER was a rather bizarre and blatantly bombastic exercise in overkill. This is a good CD for me because of the A SUMMER PLACE selection.
Fantastic collection of movie music.......2001-02-13
Erich Kunzel and The Cincinnati Pops never fail to disappoint. This is a rousing stirring collection of overtures and themes from some of Hollywood's biggest films. And what better piece to start off the album than the "20th Century Fox Fanfare". A lot, if not all, of these pieces will be familiar to movie lovers. Who can resist the beautiful "Love Theme from Romeo & Juliet" or the "Theme from Love Story". Then there's the heart pumping "Theme from Jaws" and the "Theme from Rocky". This is a terrific album, and belongs, not just in a music fans collection, but also a movie lovers.

Following up on the release of his debut CD, The Voice, Russell Watson is back with Encore, another mix of opera favorites and popular songs. By now Watson has become virtually a household name--he sells out large concert venues and remains on the top-seller charts. On Encore, we find Puccini and Verdi sharing the billing with Lulu and Lionel Ritchie on the CD's 16 tracks, which range from the much-loved Bach-Gounod "Ave Maria" to "Where My Heart Will Take Me," the theme for Enterprise (the latest Star Trek TV series). Indeed, a more fitting title might have been The Voices, since Watson explores opera, sacred works, film, television themes, and pop songs. The orchestral arrangements on tracks such as "Va, Pensiero" may not win him any fans from the opera contingency, but Watson reveals a captivating sound on pop ballads, including "You Are So Beautiful" and "Somewhere." If you enjoyed The Voice, you're certain to want an encore. --Rebecca Agnew

awsome CD.......2007-06-09
This CD is overall a wonderful sellection of music. I bought it for the one song and have enjoyed all of the songs on the CD.
Versatile Singer.......2007-03-30
Russell Watson has an incredible voice range & a very versatile singer. He even made me appreciate opera!
il divo ancora music.......2006-11-10
The book is wonderful. I love playing their music, its so great. Worth the money, no doubt.
Amazing..........2006-05-05
Russell Watson is amazing. It is truly a delight to hear him sing both the pop and the arias, for he performs both equally well. His rendition of Volare is very fun, and when he sings Somewhere, it's simply breathtaking. His duet with Lionel Richie was also splendid. They really did sound fantastic together. The two low points for me were The Prayer, because I couldn't stand Russell's duet partner, Lulu, and Don't Know How I Got By, because the song just didn't seem to suit Russell's voice. However, the other tracks more than make up for those few inferior selections. Russell Watson truly is a talented man, and I highly recommend this album.
His wrost CD.......2005-01-12
I have all 4 of Russell's Cd's and this is by far his wrose.
The Classical stuff is great but The pop stuff is some of the wrose pop stuff he has even done.

It's not opera; it's not a pop concert; it's not Broadway. It's all of these and none of them. Once you accept the fact that this sequel to the original blockbuster concert recording is less about music and more about entertainment and the power of musical personalities, you can appreciate what you're hearing as an event--phenomenal and bizarre, momentous and frivolous. This is an occasion to celebrate the voices and egos of three huge superstars, and to have fun listening as Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, and Jose Carreras interact, bouncing lines off each other and playing to the overwhelmingly enthusiastic audience. Much of the fun and flavor of the concert is dependent on seeing the action, though, and without the visuals you notice flaws in the singing much more. Domingo comes off as the more solid performer, and his voice is in far better shape than the other two. But if you crave big, high, and loud--and you don't take your opera too seriously--you'll love this disc. --David Vernier

The Three Tenors has/have become a cottage industry, churning out one CD after another for every imaginable event and in every combination. This does not mean that the results are necessarily inferior but it does imply a commercial, layman's approach. And maybe this is better - spreading the joys of fine music to the masses. After all, where besides figure skating and cartoons do most people have a chance to even hear opera?
This event, like the first one in Rome, has a magnificent setting but, like Rome, the show was marketed mainly to the American audience. They still include the dreadful "Maria" with the hilarious pronunciation and even added "With a Song In My Heart" (or, as Carreras is wont to sing, "Weeth a Soeeng een My Haht"). Though some may deride the choice of encores, they were almost perfect. The Three Tenors, despite their prior celebrity, are creations of our culture of entertainment in ways that Caruso could only dream about.
Synopsis: Carreras stands out, Domingo substitutes volume for quality and Pavarotti soars when he doesn't have to.
The Most Enjoyable Evening IN !!!!!!!!!!!.......2003-05-01
I am not a regular Opera fan, hoever these THREE are the Best. their songs they sing together are SUPER!!! And the range of NOTES REACHED ARE REMARKABLE. tHE MIXTURE of songs is a treat for all, even if you are not an OPERA FAN!!!! Great show!!!!!!
Hmmmm...........2002-04-21
Not what I thought it was going to be. I like only about 4 of the 20+ tracks on this CD. I shoudl have just bought the DVD instead and actually watched them perform. Much, much more entertaining.
Last Encore of songs missing off C.D........2002-02-06
The Three Tenors are my absolute favourite singers. The 1994 Concert was undoubtedly their best in my view. I taped this live concert from the television, and have played and played and played it!! I also taped it on a cassette, however, when I bought the C.D. I was really disappointed that they did not include the last set of encore songs, which included O Sole a Mio (don't know if I've spelt that correctly), where Placido and Jose try and outdo Luciano!! It received such a fantastic reception from the crowd, (one of the many standing ovations), and really showed how much the Three Tenors seemed to enjoy performing the concert. How come this was not included? I don't know if it was on the Video because I play my own.
Many thanks for your time,
With kind regards,
Pam Sargeant.

Twilight Zone.......2007-05-16
Still one of the best pieces of music, Twilight Zone "Rocks" as much today as it did when it was new! The entire CD is great!
Great For Golden Earring Fans.......2007-04-20
'The Continuing Story of Radar Love' is a greatest hits collection of songs by the (mainly) 70s rock group Golden Earring. With 'Twilight Zone' being one of my favorite songs of all time (and still is), I continually have the vision of the bullet slicing through the apple in the music video which was a mainstay of MTV in their early days. Radar Love is Golden Earring' opus achievement according to most fans (I feel Twilight Zone is better), and never fear, that headline song is present, along with several other tracks which pale in comparison to these 2.
If you are a Golden Earring fan or 70s rock music in general I think you will be happy with this collection but the top 2 hits blow away everything else on the disc (Quiet Eyes is pretty good though).
**** RECOMMENDED
Twilight Zone.......2007-04-19
The Continuing Story of Radar Love is a 12-song hits collection from rock band Golden Earring, containing both the 70s rock staple "Radar Love" and the full eight-minute version of "Twilight Zone." These two songs are the most notable on this compilation and both cracked the Top 20, with "Radar Love" hitting number 13 in 1974 and "Twilight Zone" peaking at number ten nine years later. The other ten songs on the album consist of long, heavy guitar-filled runs that surround obscure lyrics, the best of which are "The Vanilla Queen" and "Mad Love's Comin."
TWILIGHT ZONEMany American music fans had forgotten about Golden Earring after "Radar Love," but the Dutch group hung around and remained popular around the world as it performed its mix of hard rock with other sounds and subsequently created many albums worth noting. Their consistent hard work paid off when the group released the major hit "Twilight Zone," a rocker that paired edgy lyrics to a hard-hitting, slick rock sound, not unlike the much newer song "Kryptonite" by Three Doors Down. I guess you could say these guys had thirty minutes of fame, having had two big hits nine years apart. "Twilight Zone" seems to be a story about paranoia, desperation and betrayal. It paints a lonely portrait of "a double-crossed agent, all alone" who is trying to carry out a mission only to find himself betrayed at every turn: "Help, I'm stepping into the twilight zone/This is a madhouse/Feels like being cloned/My beacon's been moved under moon and star/Where am I to go now that I've gone too far?" The music replicates the angry tone of the lyrics by mixing certain melodies that build from a meditative mood to an angry boil with a swirling chorus that consistently shifts direction conveying the frenzied confusion of the agent. Golden Earring's recording of "Twilight Zone" is equal parts hard rock and heavy metal. Anchoring the song is George Kooymans' angry, somewhat bluesy guitar work in conjunction with pulsating synthesizer lines that add a futuristic mood to the recording. Drummer Cesar Zuiderwijk adds plenty of exciting percussive frills, providing a major contribution to the song's scorching instrumental break. Singer Barry Hay provides an exceptionally emotive performance with a gruff vocal that enhances the song's mixture of anger and paranoia. This is a thrilling rocker that became an major U.S. and international hit.
A very good distillation of greatness.......2006-11-26
Golden Earring, the talented Dutch foursome of long duration (they've basically had the same configuration for more than 40 years now, since 1965) has an amazing body of work. Many of their finest moments occurred throughout the 1970s and 80s, and this period is fairly represented by the song selection here.
While simple popularity has dictated more selections from the 1973 smash album, Moontan (including the hit single "Radar Love") and its 1982 counterpart Cut (with its MTV favorite "Twilight Zone"), at least a sampling of the vast amount of other great work the Earring produced in the 70s is present.
Hopefully this collection will inspire new fans to explore the deep and pleasurable Earring catalog, including such landmark albums as Switch (1974), To The Hilt (1975) and Grab It For A Second (1978). And it'll certainly remind longtime listeners why they took a shine to the Earring in the first place.
Happy listening!
Golden Earring Rocks Like No Other.......2006-08-14
Can it be that utopia is riding my Harley Davidson along the shores of Lake Michigan, with Golden Earring blaring forth from my twin speakers. I know my wife hates it--but who cares?? After all--she likes Barry Manilow, and that music will NOT be played on my Harley!!!! For years I have grooved to "Radar Love", and "Twilight Zone". For the first time I have listened to an entire album of songs. What was I waiting for?? Wow--plug me in and turn up the volume. Great guitar licks, awesome vocals, and hip lyrics. I WILL be searching for more Golden Earring music soon. Time to put snow tires on my bike!! lol

Great to Hear All those great Voices from the Past.......2007-07-05
I just wanted to confirm what the first reviewer had to say about this CD. To hear Ethyl Merman, Mary Martin, Andrea McCardle etc. singing their trademark songs brought a lot of memories from the mid-centry musical theater back again. The last song by Glynis Johns is especially poignant.
You certainly can't beat the price!
A Good One!.......2006-11-10
This is a very good CD, mostly because it's the original artists. I've had some that were re-recorded by no name artists that were ghastly. This one is a really good one--including the sound quality. If I had one wish, I would wish it were longer!

From the opening piano notes of Montana: A Love Story, George Winston fans are sure to feel they've returned to safer ground after his last album, The Night Divides the Day, the pianist's dip into the acid rock of The Doors. There's nothing on Montana that wouldn't feel at home to anyone who has followed him since his first two albums on Takoma and Windham Hill records. Winston has carved out a space for open-air melodies that seem to echo off the Montana plains that have provided so much of his metaphorical imagery over the years. It's an attractive sound which, at its best, recalls Keith Jarrett's more contemplative ruminations, and at its worst, sounds like cocktail music by someone without a good fake book. The pure Winston sound can be heard on his originals, including "High Plains Lullaby," as well as covers like Mark Isham's childlike "Thumbelina." But Winston also plays Celtic tunes, Sam Cooke's R&B hit, "You Send Me," and Leadbelly's "Goodnight Irene." And just to put you on edge, he does Frank Zappa's angular "The Little House I Used to Live In." He says it reminded him of the little house in which he grew up in Montana. When he explores these different styles, he becomes a more generic pianist, the kind you might hear at the local shopping mall. But on the reverie of "Sweet Soul" and the exoticism of "Sky," the distinct Winston sound is revealed as he continues to forge his brand of American Plains piano. --John Diliberto
Customer Reviews:
Mr George Winston's Love Story.......2004-11-12
Mellow, tripping, carefree and atmospheric: George Winston makes some really good neo-classical noises on his Love Story CD, without a doubt the most relaxing you are ever likely to listen to. If you are into your heavy stuff this is not your bag; its feather notes tumbling from the piano have nothing of the grandeur of classical tradition, yet avoids being twee. The subtlety of Chopi without his moodyness. Simple, alluring, sexy and serene. Superb.

The Eclectic Northener.......2004-11-03
As you can guess from the title of this album, George Winston lives in Montana. And, very clearly, he likes it there. Choosing to base his work on folk and traditional music that is associated with that state, the album has only five original compositions. This isn't bad by any means, but I spent my first listening (without reading the notes) thinking how familiar the music sounded. For those of us who are used to the more abstract styling of his other albums this takes a few cuts to get used to.
The sound is still the sparse, acoustic approach that Winston is noted for. He isn't a musician to waste notes unnecessarily, often paring a melody, traditional or not, down to its bare bones. It is more proper to say that he 'derived' his work from Montanan music rather than that he borrowed it. Winston's musical sense is always very good, and it certainly didn't fail him here as he mixes his jazz-like approach with a melodic tradition.
If I had my druthers, I would have liked to hear Winston work more with the music of Montana's northern frontier - the Voyageurs and the Metis. This isn't a criticism, Winston has drawn from what he is most familiar with. I just would like to here what a really good musician could do with traditions that get too little air time in the US.
from Solo Piano Publications.......2004-11-02
"Montana - A Love Story" is George Winston's tribute to his home state, and contains an eclectic grouping of piano solos coming from a variety of sources. The only real surprise on the album is that only five of the seventeen pieces are Winston's original compositions, but I doubt that his fans will be disappointed. From the beginning, Winston has called himself a "folk pianist" rather than "new age," and quite a few of the tracks are folk or traditional songs that Winston arranged as piano solos. Winston has again included a piece by fellow native-Montanan Philip Aaberg, a pianist Winston greatly admires and respects (who doesn't???). Most of the pieces are melodic and graceful, with the possible exception of Frank Zappa's "The Little House I Used to Live In," which is more discordant and abstract - can't say that I like that one much. Winston mentions in his liner notes that he is playing a lot of solo piano dances, and he includes some of his favorite pieces from those as well. Several of the tracks have a strong Asian-influence - an interesting development.
My favorites in this collection are pretty varied. "Thumbelina" comes from Mark Isham's soundtrack for the classic children's story. Gentle and quiet, this is a lovely opening. I really like "Billy In the Low Land," which is a variation on an American fiddle tune. It is easy to picture Montana's vast open spaces and to feel the peace and contentment of a simpler country life. "Valse Frontenac" is a traditional waltz from Quebec, and is a sweet and sincere piece full of charm and simple elegance. I prefer Philip Aaberg's recording of "Nevertheless, Hello," but Winston does this great piece justice. "The Twisting of The Hay Rope" is a joyful ancient Irish piece with a beautiful melody. "You Send Me," a slow-dance arrangement of the Sam Cooke classic, works well as a piano solo. "The Mountain Winds Call Your Name" is one of the originals, and much of it is played on plucked piano strings - a technique Winston has relished for a long time; it's an interesting piece. My favorite track is "Music Box" by Rentaro Taki, a haunting little piece with a bittersweet melody. I also really like Winston's arrangement of "Goodnight Irene," an easy-going waltz composed by Huddie Ledbetter (Leadbelly) in the early 20th century. The final two tracks are loving tributes to two of Winston's cats, both very tender and sweet, and full of Winston's distinctive open spaces.
George Winston has truly become a legend in his own time, and has had a strong influence on many pianists and other musicians. "Montana - A Love Story" is a continuation of his tradition of gathering pieces from a wide variety of sources and making them his own. Winston's many fans will love this album!
Classic George Winston.......2004-10-26
What a great CD! George Winston is a talented, innovative musician which this new recording clearly reflects. It has a great selection of songs, some originals and some interpretations of other composers, constituting a nice mixture of moods and feelings.
One of my favorites is Music Box, twinkling in the upper registers (similar to his previous recordings from the Snowman and Velveteen Rabbit) Other favorites include Goodnight Irene, Montana Glide, and Valse Frontenac (the latter has the classical feel of some of his December songs). Zappa's spooky Little House song is a bit avant-garde, but George Winston didn't get to be who he is by being commercial and predictable. This musician plays from the heart, every song evoking a distinct feeling or mood, and he's not afraid to try new things.
This multidimensional disc has instantly become one of my favorite driving CDs. I'm still waiting for a recording of Winston's fabulous Fats Waller influenced songs that you can only hear in his live concerts, and his Badelamente "midget song" that I only heard once in his concert during the Twin Peaks era. Keep surprising me, George!
A CD for true George Winston fans.......2004-10-22
I am a long time George Winston fan and was ecstatic to hear about the release of this new CD and I was not disappointed. I can see why he called this album A Love Story - the first three tracks are totally gorgeous, I found track number 3 Valse Frontenac especially romantic and easy to get lost in. I love his ability to make many styles of music his own.
George Winston's music was always made me want to cuddle up to someone I love in front of a warm fire and this CD is another perfect soundtrack. The only song I found a little hard to get my head around was The Little House I Used to Live In, but that wouldn't stop me from giving this CD 4 out of 5 stars.
It's a great album to, along with DECEMBER, add into the CD rotation this season.

love songs easy to listen too.......2007-05-07
I love a classical voice singing this type of mustic, or sacred (from the operas (in English), or, out of print sacred. Wish I could find a source for some of my old tapes (some recorded from 78s) of artists like Jerome Hines (Holy City, 1962-3, 78 record I transferred to tape), Russel Davis (1970 or early 8os record I coped, of tape my Dad had copied), William Harness, Kathleen Battle, etc. etc. I enjoy a wide range of music, but had operatic training, so understand the requirements for superior vocal skill. John Denver had much of the quality. Music for me is part of the fabric of life.
This is an oldie but a goodie!.......2006-11-09
One of his first albums of "popular" songs and one of the best of the songs we have loved for years with a fresh, new Domingo treatment. Just as his album with John Denver was a something new for him, these songs are out of the opera world. You'll never hear any of them performed by anyone up to the "gold standard" of Domingo. That being said, I love this album, but - the accent gets in the way on the English songs. You have to be able to accept the accented English and just listen to the gorgeous voice singing some very romantic songs. I highly recommend!
Great for boring candlelight dinner or quick ride in an elevator........2006-10-31
As much as I enjoy listening to Placido Domingo's popular recordings this is not one of his best performances. Missing the full-blooded belting that can be heard on his other albums ("Be My Love" for example). The orchestration is very mediocre and uninspired.
For a romantic mood, "Perhaps Love" (simply fabulous) is much better choice.
Beautiful music.......2006-02-23
I have been looking for this title for a long time...in all the wrong places.
A Valentine's Day Gift for all time.......2005-02-02
If you truly want to touch someone's heart, give this as a Valentine's gift. I received the CD last year and I love every minute. It makes a loving gift of one of the greats. With such a long career you would think that Placido would disappoint. So far it hasn't happened. This year my honey and I will see him in concert! Another Valentine's day wish come true.

Customer Reviews:
Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23
THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.

Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17
If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway
