Customer Reviews:
A good collection of Petula's sixties music.......2003-01-04
There have been many compilations of Petula's music, but this is a good one to play if you are mainly interested in Petula's sixties music. Tony Hatch wrote or co-wrote many of the songs for which Petula is best remembered, so although this is not a greatest hits package, it contains a lot of hits. They include Downtown, I know a place, You'd better come home, A sign of the times, I couldn't live without your love, Don't sleep in the subway and Color my world.
Call me probably should have been a hit for Petula, but was never released as a single. Chris Montez (perhaps best remembered for the rock'n'roll hit Let's dance) had a big American hit with his cover of the song. For reasons best known to the compilers of this CD, My love is omitted.
However, anybody who wants a greatest hits collection has plenty to choose from. This CD gives you a chance to hear some brilliant but obscure songs that Petula recorded in the mid to late sixties. These include Gotta tell the world and Just say goodbye, both of which could have been singles, plus You're the one, a huge American hit for the Vogues. Look at mine provided Petula with a top twenty country hit for Petula - and also for Jody Miller, who covered the song.
There are many other fine songs here - I particularly like Cranes flying south - making this ideal for the casual buyer who just wants one collection of Petula's sixties music that doesn't cost too much. It is also good for Petula's fans to have many of the best Tony Hatch songs together on one CD. Every track here has been made available on other Petula CD's.
Sweetly nostalgic yet fizzy.......2002-10-11
A great budget priced compilation, this mixes most of Clark's biggest hits with some obscure and previously unreleased tracks. Tony Hatch was the composer/arranger/producer who helped create Petula's phenomenal success with many of his tunes, and this album showcases that very particular 60s English sound. A bargain.
