Customer Reviews:
Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23
THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.
Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14
This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway
Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17
If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

Warning: wrong play list.......2006-08-26
As of 8-25-06, the listed tracks have been switched with "Jazz for a rainy afternoon". I bought this for the "St.Louis Blues" track. When I got the Open Road CD, it wasn't there.
However the music is so good I didn't care and will just buy "Rainy Afternoon". The Savoy series has over 50 minutes of music per CD. I like that there are different groups on each CD. All are in the same style of music but with different sounds. Open Road has one vocal per disc, the rest is instrumental. A lot of music for the money. The sound quality is good too.
if you're starting a collection.........2003-09-11
I'm a big fan of the Jazz for.... series. I'm a total novice who was looking to start a jazz collection, but didn't know where to start. This series is great! I especially like this album as it's a collection of somewhat livelier jazz than the other collections.
I listen to this all the time!

This excellent batch of midtempo "cookers" will have you reaching for that dog-eared copy of On the Road, ready for a jaunt down Route 66. The accent is on swinging, horn-led, classic-era jazz, with fine contributions by saxophonists David "Fathead" Newman, Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, and Sonny Criss and several breezy organ-jazz numbers by Richard "Groove" Holmes and Big John Patton. Grant Green and Donald Byrd add their brand of high octane, as well. The 51-minute, 10-tune disc makes for a smooth ride; relaxed and unhurried, it has a solid, medium-tempo groove throughout and, given the variety of instrumentation, would make for a nice party once the drive is over. --Wally Shoup

Jazz For Dummies.......2006-06-30
Sorry...IMHO it should accompany the book 'Jazz for Dummies' which by the way was co-authored by Barney Kessel - world-class jazz guitarist. There are some catchy tracks here but as a whole it just doesn't add up. Did you see some of the prices - .15 cents - give me a break - how much is a jewel case?
One of the best compilations.......2005-05-22
I love this CD. It's just so darned hot. If you are listening to this at home, you really will want to get in your car and just go (and don't forget to take this CD along)!
Not the "32 jazz" series.......2004-03-28
I ordered this because I thought it was a part of the "32 jazz" series. I have many of these including "Jazz for a Rainy Afternoon," "Jazz for when you're alone" etc.
This CD imitates the series, with similar cover photography and even the exact typeface for the titles. It is manufactured "..under license from 32 Jazz."
The music is just fine though. I'm glad I have the CD.
Good groovin' jazz.......2001-10-18
The "Jazz for..." series by Jazz32 was one of the first influences to get me interested in jazz. Then I saw the Ken Burns jazz series on TV and it increased my interest still further. This cd, "Jazz for the Open Road," has a lot of groovin', upbeat numbers for when you are in a wide-awake mood. Or you want to be wide-awake, like when you are driving. This CD introduced me to Grant Green (guitar), Richard "Groove" Holmes (organ), David "Fathead" Newman (sax), and other great soul/groove performers. Of the first six releases in the "Jazz for..." series, this is the only one with a vocal track (Ernie Andrews, and it's a good one). All other tracks are purely instrumental, which I prefer most of the time for my jazz listening.
another great CD.......2000-04-07
This is the second CD from the Jazz for a ... series that I own. Once again I found a top notch album. The mixture of artists is excellent. Each brings a unique style to the the jazz genre. I would recommend this CD to anyone, jazz lover or not.
