Album Description
This project contains a superb collection of four well pened originals, six great standards, and two rarely recorded tunes performed by two of the most in-demand, rising artists in the Southeast U.S. As partners , Lisa Kelly and J.B. Scott have performed throughout the country and internationally as guest artists with big bands, with their dixieland group, and with their mainstream jazz 5tet represented on this CD. Kelly and Scott are supported by their outstanding rhythm section, Scott Giddens/piano, Ed Strohsahl/bass and Rick Kirkland/drums.Creative maturity in individual improvisation and democratic 'team' playing, along with the ability to enterpret a variety of jazz styles with ease, is clearly evident in each musician. From a hauntingly moving ballad to a hard driving bebop tune,from a sensual contemporary Latin piece to a blues with a New Orleans trumpet flavor,from a light-hearted 3/4 tempo to a medium scatting "Ella-ish" swing tune, this group communicates with energetic confidence, poise and sensitivity,determined to create great music for the love of it. A hard swinging group truly dedicated to the spirit of jazz and its enjoyment by the listener and musician alike.
