Some Like It Hot: Original MGM Motion Picture Soundtrack [Enhanced CD] [Soundtrack]

Editorial Reviews
From the Label
Background score by Adolph Deutsch (1959)

This classic 1959 comedy about two musicians (Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis) disguised as women on the run from the mob has become one of the world's best loved Hollywood comedies. Marilyn Monroe sings three songs on the swinging soundtrack, including the ever-popular favorite "I Wanna Be Loved By You." First Time on CD!

3 out of 5 stars When animation had good music.......2005-10-27

Despite the quality of the sound I felt that the music really shone through, that jazzy style that so few people listen to in England since the constant overtaking of decades of worse and worse music into the mainstream charts.

It really made me remember all those old Tom and Jerry animations because the first time I listened to the C.D. it obviously had the full length versions rather than the segments used in the movie but the music was still familiar. It took me about three seconds to connect it to old animation visuals. I'm sure scores from Raymond Scott's albums were also used in T& J.

It's full of really energy expanding pieces on this album, it's defiantely one of those albums you put on when you feel low as a pick-me-up. However, do not play it before bed, you will not sleep!

2 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing.......2002-03-05

I found this release very disappointing.
Like the other reviewers, I found the sound quality awful, but my biggest disappointment was the exclusion of Marilyn's vocal rendition of the song "Some Like It Hot" that was released on a EP {extended play) when the movie first came out. Not only is it very rare {it turns up on some compilation Marilyn CD's}, but its also fun, and definately would have made this already short CD more complete and appealing. This movie soundtrack deserves better.
{Added note: MGM did a superb job of their release of the soundtrack to "The Misfits", finding never before released music from the movie in their vaults and beautifully restoring it to an unbelievable sound quality. Surely they could do the same with "Some Like It Hot".??}

3 out of 5 stars in agreement.......2001-11-13

I'm going to have to totally agree with the other reviewers here on the bad quality of the transfer to compact disc. While I love both the movie and all the music from Some Like it HOt, and I love listening to this, it doesn't sound very clear. It's like listening to a scratchy record.
Maybe it needs to be remastered again? or is the best it can get?
It is very good, a great ensemble of jazzy tunes that all were in the movie including all three of the songs MM sang: Running wild, I'm thru with love, and I wanna be loved by you.
I like how some dialogue is thrown into the mix too. It's a fun soundtrack if you don't mind the quality of the sound.

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorite soundtracks.......2001-06-18

This is an excellent soundtrack album if you love the movie (like I do!) It contains Marilyn Monroe's three musical numbers, incidental background music, and even some dialogue from the film itself. Some people have complained about the sound quality-the sound is in stereo, but it is defintely not wide-range (you can barely hear that there are two channels of sound). Other than this, the quality was pretty good. Remember that this music was recorded for use on the soundtrack of a movie, so they were not going through extra effort to make it sound better to the home listener. I am not sure whether or not the final film was mixed in stereo or not. Perhaps if someone knows for sure, they could mention it in their review (thanks!)

5 out of 5 stars Marilyn walks, and is a hit in some like it hot........2001-03-30

MARILYN IS WONDERFUL IN SOME LIKE IT HOT. her 3 songs are wonderful. It also includes Arthur Miller's (husband at that time) favorite song 'I'm thru with love' which she does beautifully. She does a take off on Betty Boop in the song 'I wanna be loves by you' and ends the song with the 'boop poo pee do' betty boop sign off.Her song Running wild sets the tone for the whole movie. It is not surprising that this song is played as an instrumental in the opening titles. The instrumental 'sugar blues' provides the perfect erotic music background for her entrance into the film walking down the ramp at the train station, while smoke whistles blow from the train. What an entrance..She steals the scene from Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon dressed in drag. Now many years after she died, we can notice what a good actress she was, and a very nice singer in spite of not having a voice like Barbra Streisand. But listen to how she phrases her lyrics. The vhs video has been remastered and now provides a good quality for viewing the film. The CD is fine for listening.Enjoy, enjoy, one of the best comedies ever made, directed by the one and only Billy Wilder. CERTAINES L'AIMENT CHAUD.
