    5 out of 5 stars A Glorious Love Album.......2004-05-19

A glorious album! Eydie Gorme out did herself in this fabulous selection of songs. I wish that Eydie had a broader appeal because Frank, Billie, & Ella fans would or should love this. I really love HERE I AM IN LOVE AGAIN with its melody so haunting & lyrics so honest & intelligent. Somehow she can do covers of songs so closely associated to more famous singers & make one think she only sung them. Cases in point are Sinatra's IN THE WEE SMALL HOURS OF THE MORNING & Doris Day's WHEN I FALL IN LOVE. Her IDLE CONVERSATION is just that: conversationally honest & not petensiously phony as more famous songs can be. I don't know how well this sold but E. G.'s 1st 2 lps made the top 20 charts & Blame It on Bossa Nova reached 23. I'd like to think this did very well too. With a voice that surpassed or rivalled Carmen McRae's dramaticism, Jane Moragan's range, Barbara Streisand's humor, Frank Sinatra's swingingness, Ella Fitzgerald's purity, & Sarah Vaughan's vibrato, she is the best. Eydie has all the great quailties a pop singers should have. In this 12 songs set her vibrato, purity, & dramatics really shine.

5 out of 5 stars Love songs, par excellence!.......2002-02-18

This particular group of songs is the very best of non-sexual, words of love. They say all the things you wish you could say to the one you love and cant. Eydie's voice is magnificent, her enunciation is perfect and clear, the musical scoring is without equal. I have owned the 331/3 album for years and played it to death. The love songs are still fresh and devoted. I love this CD. Buy it,, you will never be sorry!!

5 out of 5 stars YOU'LL LOVE EYDIE AFTER THIS!.......2000-03-16

Eydie Gorme, teamed with long time Steve & Eydie friend and arranger/conductor Don Costa, put their best foot foward on 12 standards that can only be described as magnificent. From the opening strains of the poignant "WHEN THE WORLD WAS YOUNG", sung here by young Eydie from a woman's point of view (Nat King Cole's version has always been one of my favorites, now he's got some competiton!)to the classic, simple reading of "IN THE WEE SMALL HOURS OF THE MORNING", to Eydie's soaring vocals on the torchy "LOVE LETTERS", it's just one beautiful song after another. It is interesting to note that Steve Allen wrote the lovely "IMPOSSIBLE". Let's not forget who's show Eydie met hubby Steve Lawrence on....a labor of love from one of the classiest female vocalists ever.

5 out of 5 stars Love as it should be!.......1999-12-22

This CD is a revelation of just what a fantastic singer Eydie Gorme is. Not only is she technically excellent, but her phrasing and ability to wring out every emotion out of a lyric domonstrates her star quality. This album was recorded just after her marriage to Steve Lawrence. From bittersweet, unrequited love songs such as In Love In Vain, to the sage and knowing When the World was Young, her range of emotions is a pleasure to hear. Listen to In Other Words and know that hers is the defining version.
