I really just wanted this cd because it gave me a chance to hear something old from Norman Hutchins. It sounds pretty good, and I am glad to make it a part of my collection.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent example of mass choir gospel.......2005-08-04

I grew up on all kinds of gospel music, from traditional southern gospel to choir gospel to the Gaithers and a'capella music. Therefore I have a pretty educated history with different types of music that fall within the gospel genre.

I have always liked good choir music, and southern-style mass choir is spirited, which lends itself to a spirit of praise. But I have three major beefs with nearly every mass choir recording out there: 1) They don't enunciate well enough for me to understand the words (kind of defeats the purpose of listening in agreement), 2) They shout in key rather than sing using dynamics, and 3) They vamp and vamp and vamp the chorus so that the songs are way too long, beyond the point of usefulness.

That said, this CD has none of those problems, and I mean none of them. Not just that, but their soloists are all very talented, and while they're comfortable in the spotlight, they don't completely overtake the song. And the best thing of all is that you can tell this group of people isn't thinking about how cool they are to be making an album. They're focused on praising the Lord with their music. Like one of their songs says: "Just forget about yourself, concentrate on Him, and worship Him." You can tell that they mean it.

It's very easy to get caught up in this music and enter into a spirit of praise while listening to it. What a talented group of singers, and what a wise director to lead them so well, so that we can all enjoy the songs without the loud and brassy voices, and the overly repetitive refrains. The last song, "What A Mighty God We Serve," is so full to the brim of joy, you can't possibly sit still unless you're made of ice. It's good stuff.

This album is a blessing, and I'll be ordering a couple more of their CDs soon.

Unbelievable! This is THE most powerful praise CD I have ever heard. I had never before heard such unbound joy and praise of GOD. Get this CD, stick it on the stereo or in your car, and see if you don't feel like a MILLION BUCKS by the end of the album! There IS a cure for depression, despair, boredom, deadness of the soul - it's Jesus!! He's alive in the hearts of his SAINTS IN PRAISE!! Couldn't recommend it more!!!!!!!

Long ago, I've listened to this in tape. It was a first time I knew real gospel songs. I never forget very very beautiful voices, rhythms and spirits. Now, Amazon.com says, THIS TITLE IS CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE. The label is out of stock. I'm looking forward to be reissued.
