Midler is Divine, one of a handful of singers that can get you off the couch and singing like you think you have a voice. She gets you hopping in this CD and intertwines some of her greatest ballads with her most popular rock tunes. Its a sweet rollercoaster ride that you don't want to end.

You cannot play it enough, as she is truly one of the most talented singers / actress / and gifted person on the face of the earth. Rarely do I feel the emotion of anyone's performance in voice that is as moving as from her. This album gives you just a taste of the range of talent this true star really has!

A wonderful and unique artist and a true star; this collection shows off Bette Midler's talents. Personally I miss "Beast of
burden" from her "No Frills"-album. The song was quite a hit
in Europe. It's about time for a volume 2 of this lady's
greatest -she has recorded several great songs since this
compilation came out.

Good Start.......2002-03-15

Bette Midler has had an excellent career filled with memorable music, and Atlantic does a decent job with this release to accompany this 20 plus year celebration of the career of Bette Midler. There was a US version, but this one is far and beyond better than that one. This compilation features four bonus tracks that were unavailable on the US release: "To Deserve You" (Single Mix), "To Deserve You" (Album Version), "Beast of Burden and "Favorite Waste of Time". As well this has new artwork. However, with the 18 tracks here, there are several missing from this collection which are sorely missed, such as "Old Cape Cod", "Mother's Eyes", "Married Men" and more. However it still marks as a good compilation, with some of her most memorable hits, such as the lump-in-the-throat "Wind Beneath My Wings", the beautiful ballads "From A Distance", "In My Life" and "The Rose", the quirky and upbeat "Miss Otis Regrets", as well as "When A man Loves A Woman", "Chapel Of Love", "Only In Miami" and more. If you are a new Bette Midler fan, this is a good place to start your foundation for her music, its a good introduction into her career and music.

Better than the US release.......2000-08-25

Much better collection than the US version, but still incomplete! After 20 years and several million sellers. Atlantic managed to scrape up a stingy one disc collection that's supposed to reflect that! Where are her other top 40 and A/C hits? Missing-in-action are Old Cape Cod, You're Movin' Out Today, Married Men, My Mother's Eyes and others.

Album Description

The cycle of ten pieces known as Harmonies Poétiques et Religieuses was dedicated in 1853 to Liszt's second companion, Princess Sayn-Wittgenstein. These pieces are based on poems by his friend, Alphonse de Lamartine, and the medieval chant of the Catholic Church.

These mystical pieces are not the typical virtuoso piano compositions that one thinks of as music by Liszt. They are song-like; it's as if Liszt is forcing the piano to sing. Playing these pieces conjures up images of Liszt, playing the piano in his study late at night, meditating and praying to his God. Liszt eventually took minor orders into the priesthood where he remained for the remainder of his life.
