Michael Bublé's assured debut and the tireless year of globe-trotting touring he spent promoting it elevated the 20-something Vancouver native into the first rank of pop crooner revivalists. His sophomore studio follow-up largely turns on the same formula that helped make his considerable vocal prowess so attractive to mainstream audiences, mixing the nigh flawless, if expected Sinatra-channeling ("I've Got You Under My Skin") with more playful and inviting renditions of pop standards like the Gershwin's "A Foggy Day in London Town," "Feeling Good," "Try A Little Tenderness" and Cole Porter's "I've Got You Under My Skin." But it's the eclectic mix of more contemporary material the singer seasons them with -- apt tribute to Bublé hero Bobby Darin -- that keeps him walking the narrow tightrope between artistic intrigue (a blues-tinged vamp of Holland-Dozier-Holland's "How Sweet It Is," Leon Russell's lovely "Song For You," with a guest turn by Chris Botti) and the kitsch-laden abyss ("Quando, Quando, Quando"'s Euro-centric duet with Nelly Furtado, a ring-a-ding-fling with the Beatles' "Can't Buy Me Love" that echoes fellow Canadian crooner/rival Matt Dusk's more successful flirtation with Lennon-McCartney). Arranger/producer Tommy LiPuma offers Bublé a welcome swinging jazz showcase on "The More I See of You," a bracing respite from the rest of producer David Foster's slick, if typically bloodless MOR production. -- Jerry McCulley [Note: A special edition including two bonus tracks--"Dream a Little Dream" and "Mack the Knife"--is also available.]

Great music.......2007-07-16
He is my favorite new singer. Very reminiscent of Sinatra, Bobby Darin, and the great Swing music of the 40's.
Michael Buble is WONDERFUL!.......2007-07-16
If you like easy listening music that`s reminiscent of Frank Sinatra, then you`ll love Michael Buble. I haven`t heard any artist this fantastic in years. This CD is the one you put in when you want to relax.
Another well done CD.......2007-07-14
This is another very well done cd by Michael Bublé. If you like his work, you'll enjoy this new edition.
Fantastic CD.......2007-07-05
This is a great CD - if you like Michael Buble's current CD (Call Me Irresponsible) you will like this one as well. This album has more slow songs on it than the current album, but still sexy and fun.
He just can't do the blues....only slightly convincing.......2007-07-02
I like Mike. He's a talented guy, but this, and the Call Me Irresponsible CD are just ok. He makes a few attempts in areas where he is not proficient, doesn't have the training, or the voice, but makes a decent go of it. However, the end result simply isn't convincing. He should stick with covers as he did in his opener, and even then, try not to make them his own by changing the musical accompaniment vastly. Good Jazz/Crooner, stick with it! Don't let the producers get in your way.

Greatest Hits? YESSSSSSSSSSSS.......2007-04-16
Perhaps at the time, these were considered their greatest hits. I've had my LP and CD for a very long time. I can't even remember. I love it. She was like an angel singing with herself. They seemed to adore one another on the TV show. She - so beautiful - and he - just beaming at her.
Maybe it's time to do another greatest hits and call it "More Greatest Hits". Other singers do it. And maybe all of us didn't agree with their first "greatest hit". Hey, you guys out there who do these kinds of things, what's taken so long?
great album.......2007-02-09
Every fan of Guitar music will appreciate this Album.
Les Paul is not only a great Guitarist he is an inventor of modern recording technology.
Dual track recording and his use of up to eight tracks made him an music industry icon.
Mary Ford's strong clear voice makes this duo complete.
A great Album!
Some Glaring Omissions!.......2005-08-06
I'm a huge fan of Les Paul and after reviewing the track list on this CD, I don't see how anyone in their right mind could call it an "all time greatest hits" collection.
While tracks such as "Mockin' Bird Hill", "The World is Waiting for the Sunrise", and "Vaya Con Dios" among the duo's best loved and best known songs, I find the omission of "How High the Moon", one the their biggest hits, to be unforgiveable. Equally astonishing is why "Dry My Tears", the theme song of Les & Mary's 50s radio show, and "Cryin'", arguably the best song Mary Ford has ever sung, were excluded. I would much rather have had those tracks included in the disc than the cover version of Patti Page's "Tennessee Waltz", and the ersatz "Meet Mr. Callaghan". It's also hard to understand why the only Les Paul solo instrumental track on this disc is "Bye Bye Blues". "Lover", the song that propelled Les into the spotlight, and "Nola", a song that enjoyed worldwide popularity, were inexplicably left out.
While this is a decent collection of the work of Les Paul and Mary Ford, it is definitely NOT their all time greatest hits. The record label ought to be sued for false advertising.
Refreshing!.......2004-12-31
I've just discovered this pair, and I'm so sorry I haven't heard them until now. Being a jazz vocalist, I'm always looking for challenging material. I have a few CDs in this genre, but the styling, and caliber of the musicians puts my other CDs to shame. I suspect k.d. lang has borrowed styling from the likes of Mary Ford, as their voices seem to lilt in the same fashion. Les Paul's ability makes me wonder if there are more than two or three guitars playing simultaneously. Many of these cuts are very subtle in their exhibition of complicated material. For those so inclined to listen, it's an auditory adventure.
What a great sound.......1999-08-25
I am so happy that Les Paul and Mary Ford records are available. I love this one.

Boasting the first jazz instrumental to sell a million copies, the Paul Desmond-penned "Take Five," Time Out captures the celebrated jazz quartet at the height of both its popularity and its powers. Recorded in 1959, the album combines superb performances by pianist Brubeck, alto saxophonist Desmond, drummer Joe Morrello and bassist Gene Wright. Along with "Take Five," the album features another one of the group's signature compositions, "Blue Rondo a la Turk." Though influenced by the West Coast-cool school, Brubeck's greatest interest and contribution to jazz was the use of irregular meters in composition, which he did with great flair. Much of the band's appeal is due to Desmond, whose airy tone and fluid attack often carried the band's already strong performances to another level. Together, he and Brubeck proved one of the most potent pairings of the era. --Fred Goodman

Time Out for a Timeless Classic.......2007-07-04
This is a reissue of the 1959 studio session. Although Blue Rondo and Take Five are the signature pieces for the Quartet, the other tracks are in keeping with the innovative time signatures 5/4, 6/4 and variations of 4/4 and 3/4 time. What else can you say except it's a classic and belongs in evryone's collection.
A classic ! .......2007-07-01
This Cd is just GREAT and such a Jazz classic! The re-mastered version of this Album is absolutely wonderful---sounding so crisp and sharp!
The songs speak for themselves, as they are some of Brubeck's most famous hits.
This is a highly recommended re-mastered version of Dave's TIME OUT Album!
This CD Changed The Rules.......2007-06-16
This album changed the rules in jazz in two important ways. First, it introduced atypical time signatures to jazz performers. Performers were pushing ever other musical limit, including harmony (Miles Davis, Bill Evans, . . .), melody (John Coletrane, Eric Dolphy, . . .) and song structure in general (Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor, . . .). 4/4 and 3/4 time signatures were already optional in contemporary classical music and some ethic music. Brubeck opened up this fertile opportunity for the jazz world (and later rock like Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull and Rush). Perhaps more remarkable was the fact that this album proved that the public was receptive to this new approach to popular music. Brubeck went pioneering and returned with no lethal arrows in him.
The best part about this album is that this new technique was not just a novelty; it was a path to creating timeless compositions like Take Five and Blue Turk a la Rondo. My favorite things about Brubeck are his range of expression (from cool and understated to highly muscular), and the unique voice of Paul Desmond's saxophone. Desmond's instrument has the bird-like sweetness of Charlie Parker combined with the lazer-focused tone of John Coletrane. The alternating solo voices really injects life and breath into the group.
The use of different time signatures did not did not get embraced as widely as one might expect in a genre built on creativity. Some felt that odd time signatures did not "swing" (although Brubeck and others disproved that), some may not have felt comfortable with or inspired by this new approach, and I suspect that the distinctiveness of this contribution by a white man made it "uncool" among many jazz musicians to do something that sounded "like Brubeck". The happy side effect for Brubeck is that this album stands out in jazz like few other works.
Time out....Dave Brubeck Quartet.......2007-06-01
A clear jazz master piece......remastered by Sony....better than the originaland better than todays Brubeck Quartet
Brubeck in SACD...heaven.......2007-05-17
Sony/Columbia did this superb sounding disc very well in this SACD transfer! This rivals the original edition Lp for lovely sound, and I think it is among the best single layer SACD's out there (Mingus ah um is THE best to these ears!). You know (or should know) the music, so don't hesitate getting it on SACD! I should add I am not into 5.1 for music. My sound review refers only to 2 channel stereo sound.

I'm in the Mood for Love...The Most Romantic Melodies of All Time is Kenny G's twist on the trend that's found artists, from Rod Stewart to Gladys Knight to Barry Manilow, repurposing classics for modern consumption. Or is it? A scan of the track selection is as likely to get listeners wondering whether he's covered these songs before as it is to drum up curiosity about how they'll sound spiraling out of his signature sax. For instance: silky as "The Way We Were," the Barbra Streisand chestnut, comes across, it stirs a sense of déjà vu as much as wonderment; as does the Sinatra medley "Fly Me to the Moon/You Make Me Feel So Young." Such familiarity is without doubt the product of impeccable taste and a seasoned ear--somebody, whether it's Kenny G or a behind-the-scenes studio type, knows what works for the curly-topped jazzman and what's better left un-saxed. Still, such scrutiny can make for a disc that's aurally matchy-match; a stab at an out-there number--Etta James' "At Last" or U2's "With or Without You"--might have worked, too. That said, hats off to the G-man for pronouncing a couple of recent hits among the most romantic of all time: Alicia Keys "If I Ain't Got You" deserves it especially, and is mesmerizing here. --Tammy La Gorce
Customer Reviews:
A Romantic CD to Listen With a Loved One..........2007-05-29
For me, Kenny G's albums are a hit or miss. This is a hit. Here we got 13 songs, ranging from standards to torch songs. Kenny G also plays tenor saxophone a bit more than his previous recordings.
Highlights include "You're Beautiful", "Yesterday", "I'm in the Mood for Love", The Way You Look Tonight, & an interesting version of Alicia Keys's "If I Aint Got You" (however alto saxman Eric Darius's version is better).
The surprise tracks however is "The Shadow of Your Smile" & "Fly Me to the Moon/You Make Me Feel So Young". The former has a bossa nova favor to it while the latter is done behind a big band.
This album will not appear to everyone; most purists & anti-Kenny G people won't touch this with a 39 1/2 foot pole. For the rest of us, this is great for those nights with that special someone.
Getting In The Mood.......2007-05-29
Everyone gets in the mood for love every now and then.So when that mood hits you it"s so nice to have Kenny G"s "I"m In The Mood For Love" comming to your rescue.Along with that someone special in your life.Compiling a list of great romantic melodies is no easy task. With so many great romantic melodies to choose from. But Kenny G does manage to put together a good list of songs.Kenny G mixes some old songs in with some not so old songs. And the end result is a wonderful melody of sound. All design to get and keep you in that special mood for love. Now all these songs have been recorded before. But on this album Keeny G gives us his very own romantic interpertations of classics like "I"m In The Mood For Love","If" and "The Way We Were".The album gets off to a good start with James Blunt "You"re Beautiful" very nicey done by Mr G.And he takes it soft and easy on the songs "Yesterday" and "The Shadow Of Your Smile".He picks it up a bit on the songs "Fly Me To The Moon" and "You Make Me Feel So Young".These two songs bring back memories of Frank Sinatra. And the song I like the most on the album "The Way You Look Tonight" I think this song as a great feeling to it.I ready like this album but like so many other Kenny G fans.I can"t wait until he does his next album of original music. But until then just sit back with a cool glass of wine and enjoy this music by yourself or with someone you love.
just sit back and enjoy.......2007-05-26
This latest cd by Kenny G is one that will make you just sit back and enjoy. That special someone and a glass of wine helps to add to the mood that is set when listening to this cd. This cd might just bring back some of those special memories. Can't go wrong with this one. True romantics will love this cd.
As good as ever.......2007-02-11
If you have always liked Kenny G's music, you will like this album. He has taken a long break from new studio recordings, but this album proves he hasn't ignored his instrument during his hiatus! Everyone is doing standards these days, and they lend themselves well to Kenny G's style. Recommended!
Mom was pleased.......2007-01-25
Mom was pleased with her new Kenny G CD album. I was relieved, because as we all know, "If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!"

You could call the austere, resonating sounds laid down by drummer Paul Motian, guitarist Bill Frisell and saxophonist Joe Lovano chamber jazz. But while that would speak to the refinement of this long-standing trio, it would miss the free, open-ended nature of their collaboration. You get the feeling if they weren't in the business of making a recording, their three-way conversations would keep going and going. Dominated by Motian compositions, this sequel to their fine 2004 album, I Have the Room Above Her, is frequently centered by Lovano's artfully restrained tenor, buoyed by Frisell's trademark roots-inflected chordings and prodded by Motian's ever-shifting patterns. But the artists exchange those roles at will, resulting in melodies that can come at you from any angle and textures that constantly renew themselves. A diaphonous reading of Thelonious Monk's "Light Blue" and a plummy reading of Rodgers & Hammerstein's "This Nearly Was Mine" (from South Pacific) raise the melodic ante while maintaining the overall feeling of the album. --Lloyd Sachs
Album Description
One of the great bands of modern jazz, Paul Motian, Bill Frisell and Joe Lovano have been recording together since 1981. Ever since, and despite skyrocketing careers, the three musicians have always set aside time to continue their trio collaboration.
Paul Motian's last two albums on ECM have been widely lauded by press and fans alike. 2005's I Have The Room Above Her was Motian, Frisell, Lovano's last outing, and Time and Time Again has been eagerly-awaited since. The new record features compositions by Motian and Lovano, plus a tune from Thelonious Monk and the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic "This Nearly Was Mine" from South Pacific.
Customer Reviews:
Less Is More.......2007-05-31
Perhaps the most abstract expression of passionate commitment to music is this zen approach evinced by the remarkable efforts of Motion, Frisell and Lovano. From the opening strains of "Cambodia" until the end of the disc when it all seems to release itself into the ether time and time again, this is a sublime evocation of what finds solace deep in the human heart and soul. Certainly the other side of the pond from Michael Brecker's brilliant PILGRIMAGE, this disc nonetheless presents an open invitation to dwell deeply, poetically. It is the piety of thinking that finds its sojourn in this music and you will find yourself returning to this disc the rest of your life.
Nothing splashes, crashe sor reaches a boppish fever. The inflections are more subtle. By not stating something thematically, this trio speaks volumes. Even the chestnut, "This nearly was Mine" more evocatively presents what has escaped than what is common. Monk's "Light Blue" occupies that zone just before enlightenment arrives and is certainly a sonic approach to what Heidegger referred to as The Clearing.
This is an even finer CD than I HAVE THE ROOM ABOVE HER. It is waht is left unsaid that continues to haunt you long after you walk away from this disc.
Three old pros.......2007-04-29
The first few times I listened to this album, I was somewhat disappointed. It's grown on me a lot since then. Sonically it's quite similar to the trio's previous album on ECM, I Have the Room Above Her. There's lots of sophisticated, subtle interplay between the three musicians, but with a mellower, less explosive sound than their albums on JMT/Winter&Winter and Soul Note. Don't expect any squealing electric guitar by Frisell or free jazz screaming by Lovano.
Favorite tracks: some nice free-ish jousting on "Onetwo", the very melodic "K.T.", and Thelonious Monk's very funny "Light Blue". "In Remembrance of Things Past" is nice, but doesn't hold a candle to the very intense version recorded on Trioism.
I'd check out I Have the Room Above Her or some of their albums on JMT/W&W before this one, but if you like those albums then you will probably appreciate this one as well.
Inspirational three-way music-making ........2007-04-03
Paul Motian once again teams up with guitarist Bill Frisell and tenor saxophonist, Joe Lovano.
Each of these artists have done very well on their own, but their combined force is, as the platitude goes, far greater than the sum of its parts.
There's a genuine sense of luxuriousness to "Time And Time Again".
Whether it be the muted blue textures of Frisell's sensitive guitar passages or the sheer effervescent sparkle of Motian's cymbals, there's an uncommon richness of atmosphere to this recording.
Although predominantly made up of original compositions by Motian himself, the trio tackle a couple of standards in the shape of Rogers & Hammerstein's "This Nearly Was Mine" and Thelonious Monk's "Light Blue" and and Lovano's drifting "Party Line" to particularly great effect.
Throughout the album the mutual respect between these three players is abundantly evident, with no one voice intruding upon another.
Motian's own performance, in particular, remains remarkably accommodating to his fellow performers, allowing the compositions themselves to take centre stage.

Album Description
"Sacred Ground" is a fascinating and important new recording that grew from
David Murray's involvement in the acclaimed documentary film, Banished, directed by
Marco Williams. Although it's virtually unknown, more than a dozen counties in the U.S. violently expelled thousands of families between the Civil War and the Great Depression. The film - and this recording - explores not only these historical facts, but also the legacy of these events in the communities and for the descendants of the families.
After exploring the themes of the film he'd been asked to score, Murray was inspired - indeed compelled - to dig deeper, and to compose further music. David Murray enlisted poet
Ishmael Reed, one of today's pre-eminent African- American literary figures. Reed wrote two poems, performed here by the great
Cassandra Wilson.
David chose to record this using his
Black Saint Quartet - sometimes called Power Quartet, on the group's first outing since the passing of the great John Hicks last year. Logically then, David enlisted pianist
Lafayette Gilchrist, informally a Hicks student and admirer, and on drums the great
Andrew Cyrille. Bassist
Ray Drummond completes this first class group.

Once again, Khan is joined by the familiar names of of John Patitucci, Jack DeJohnette, and Manolo Badrena exploring compositions by Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman, McCoy Tyner, and a moving version of "You're My Girl" which was written by Steve's late father.
Customer Reviews:
Keep it going Steve!.......2007-07-01
Another great outing by Khan who lately seems to be in come back mode...and as in some of his past records seems to have a foot in straight-yet-fusion-tinged jazz and a more latin fusioned with jazz music that at times reminds of the best Santana percusion passages mixed with Khan's composition style (particularly the first 3 Santana albums)...don't be put off by the description...this is not latin-jazz. It is still a real jazz record. Only 1 had to be skiped while playing the cd ( Luna y Arena, which to my ears just doesn't fit well with the rest of the cd...it is sung in spanish by Gabriela Anders and it is just too soft and romantic). Still, without that track you get more than an hour woth of incredible music...Get it specially if you liked 'The Green field'...and yes, De johnette is on fire here!
another excellent offering from an overlooked player.......2007-06-22
Great follow-up to last years The Green Field album, this is an articulate & thoughtful set - not just pure speed, A.

Customer Reviews:
At The Movies by Andre Rieu.......2007-05-20
Andre Rieu brings a warmth and pop-like aire to his music. Here he plays popular music with a classical orchestra and adds his special ingredients to it ie:humor (musical jokes for the serious listener),fun,light-heartedness.It's a band of very talented musicians having alot of fun as is evident in the playing and especially if you've seen them in concert.I can "hear" the smiles on their not serious faces by their style of playing...less staccato and with more feeling.Andre and company swing and dance through every track climaxing on Ravel's Bolero from the movie "10".
very beautiful.......2007-01-09
This cd is very beautiful. It captures the songs wonderfully. The orchestra does a fine job.
Refreshing Music.......2006-11-03
Andre Rieu presents wonderful songs in a very inspirational way. They are to be enjoyed as "dinner music" or just for times when the TV is off and you need some "quiet time". It is a great grouping of melodies.
from texas--AND FROM A MUSIC LOVER.......2006-08-30
ANDRE RIEU TAKES US ON A WONDERFUL TRIP BACK IN TIME TO THE MOVIES YOU CAN=T FORGET AND THE MUSIC THAT MADE THEM CLASSICS. DO BUY IT. IT IS A TREASURE...
Andre Rieu - Music for the masses.......2006-08-10
Sometimes you just want enjoyable music as a backdrop to the job at hand. I turn to Andre to get me through these events. Probably not a glowing endorsement, but if you know of Mr. Rieu's feelings about music, he would just smile and nod his head. This is music to just enjoy for the sake of music - and that is a good thing.

Hits You're gonna love.......2007-01-03
I have always loved Les Paul and Mary Ford, from the very first time I heard them together, and particularly Les Paul's stylings on the guitar. This album brings together all that was great about them together and individually as well.

Believe it or not..........2005-08-03
I grew up listening to Les Paul & Mary Ford. Then I turned my back on them for many years, considering them old fashioned and maybe even weird. Recently I read something that mentioned Les Paul being a jazz artist. JAZZ ARTIST? HIM? Since I am a jazz fan, I ordered a "combo" CD (Hit Makers and Time to Dream)from Amazon and listened to the pair for the first time in probably 30 years or more. I was stunned. They were both fantastic. Mary's voice was full, throaty and she could sing jazz! You have to get past the first three songs - then you hit pay dirt, although I enjoyed hearing "Vaya Con Dios" again after so long. "Mockingbird Hill" is a little too much of a good thing, as are several on the "Hit Makers" list. But when you get to "Time to Dream" (the songs are split into two lists) it becomes a very enjoyable CD. Mary's vocals on "My Silent Love" and "June in January" are superb. And Les Paul does some mighty fancy gee-tar pickin'. It's an oldie, but I've listened to this CD a number of times since getting it - and enjoyed every minute.
