    Nancy Wilson lends a sense of style and sophistication to her music. This is a compiliation of some of her material on Capitol Records back in the 60's. Great songs, great arrangements, and a great voice! Some of the contributing artists on these recordings are Cannonball Adderly, George Shearing, Hank Jones, and Ben Webster. Recorded with the orchestras of Billy May, Oliver Nelson, Jimmy Jones, and Gerald Wilson.

    A Jazz session with Nancy Wilson - a compilation of her early Capitol output is always oxygen that purifies all around. Fully recommended to those who got to know her in the last 2 decades and think her best comes the skipable recent R&B Sony albums.

    Nancy Wilson seemed to have the best arrangers and musicians working with her back in the sixties and her talent was worthy of it. I'm very impressed with the songs chosen for this collection because they are not the obvious choices and most of the tracks are not available on other cds

    Nancy Wilson has had a long and distinguished career as one of the most stylish and sultry vocalists of her generation, even hosting her own Emmy-winning variety series on NBC, "The Nancy Wilson Show," as well as being a frequent guest performer on other shows. Best known as a jazz performer who worked with the likes of Cannonball Adderley and George Shearing, Wilson also crosed over into Pop and R&B, as evidenced by this import collection from EMI Gold. Consequently, this is not really a greatest hits collection where you will pick up Wilson's songs that did the best on the Billboard charts, which would be "That's What I Want For Christmas" (#6) and "(You Don't Know) How Glad I Am" (311). Instead you will find her covers of a wide variety of songs, including adult hits like "(I Left My Heart) In San Francisco" and "Moon River," Broadway tunes like "What Kind of Fool am I" and "As Long as He Needs Me," and rock songs like "Yesterday" and "Son of a Preacher Man." So, while you would certainly want to pick up a standard Nancy Wilson hits collection, this is an excellent choice as a second album which will give you lots of great songs with little or no overlap with the other. It amply demonstrates Wilson's range, as she proves herself equally adept at doing Gershwin's "Somebody to Watch Over Me as she is "(Uptight) Everything is Alright."

      NANCY'S MUSIC TRANSCENDS GENERATIONS; I AM FROM THAT HORRIBLE, VAPID LOT CALLED GENERATION X, BUT NANCY IS MY FAVORITE SINGER. HER MUSIC SENDS CHILLS DOWN MY SPINE; HER INTERPRETATIONS ARE UNIQUE AND POLISHED -- YET EMOTIONAL. NANCY, YOU ARE A CLASS ACT -- NO ONE QUITE REACHES YOUR LEVEL. THIS IS AN EXCELLENT COMPILATION OF HER WORK. I OWN EVERYTHING SHE HAS IN PRINT, BUT I BOUGHT THIS ONE IN ORDER TO GET A FEW MORE SONGS THAT I DIDN'T OWN BEFORE. IT WOULD BE SO GREAT IF CAPITAL RELEASED SOME OF HER OTHER 60 ALBUMS. Of all the great song stylist, Dinah Billie, Ella Carman, Sarah, Morgana, Cleo andothers, Nancy stands alone for delivering great songs, nomatter the style the way the writer intended. As avocalist myself, I do no hesitate to tell anyone and everyone about theinfluence this supremeartist has had and still contnues to have on me to this day. I learned nearly all of the standards from her as well as a lot of not well known material from listening to the 'Lady with a song' Ms. Wilson. I have a career in music as a song stylist because I have been taught by the very best. Thank you Nancy for all that you have been to the world and especially for what you have meant to me. Jymi.

      I spent the last year of the 60's in Vietnam. At night I would listen to Ms Wilson and she allowed my soul to leave the craziness for some very precious moments. My life, like many, has changed over the years and different stress has replaced that of war. But despite the changes of life, Nancy's voice has the same peaceful effect on me. Thank you Nancy!!!!!! A very appreciative fan.

          5 out of 5 stars 60'S-70'S OVERLOOKED CLASSICS!! BRAVO NANCY WILSON!!!.......2004-05-30

          It looks like nobody is at the helm over at the Capitol Tower and once again it took somebody with some taste and knowledge from an Import division to release some of the sadly overlooked gems from Nancy Wilson's vast and brilliant 70's catalog. What is the problem over at the Capitol Towers???? No wonder the music industry is in such a sad state when so much junk is spewed out weekly yet a Legend such as Miss Wilson has a vast amount of her work unreleased and we are talking about close to 10 of the best albums of her career still in the vaults!! The only 70's set released is the Import of the 1974 masterpiece "Come Get To This" that has been in my car changer for months and I cannot get enough of this INCREDIBLY GREAT album!! Late 60's also is unreleased and listen to "Peace Of Mind" and Face It Girl, It's Over" in this sterling collection and one can quickly realize that these are classic Nancy and "The Sound Of Nancy Wilson...An Experience In Motion And Emotion" and "Easy" need to be released on Compact Disc!!! HELLO CAPITOL RECORDS!!!! "(You Don't Know) How Glad I Am" was my introduction to Nancy while in High School but by the late 60's Miss Wilson started making really great albums and these are what made me a real fan!!! "Now I'm A Woman" is the title song from the early 70's Gamble/Huff masterpiece while "Your As Right As Rain" is from the unreleased 1974 classic "All Is Fair In Love" which is a totally awesome set!! "Now" and "In My Loneliness (When We Were Young)" is from the classic 1976 "This Mother's Daughter" and "I've Never Been To Me" is the title song from this definitive version that is the stunning version that made this song a timeless classic. A soulful collection is 1978's "Music On My Mind" with "I'm Gonna Let Ya" representing that great set here. This is an engrossing collection that shows the artistry of a classic whose career thrived despite the indifference of a major label who from the late 60's on appeared to not realize what it had and clearly doesn't what it has in the vaults!!! Hopefully somebody with a real feeling for what is great in music can correct this but for now get this collection and enjoy a classic at the peak of her wonderous powers!!! Thank You Nancy Wilson!!!!

          Nancy is the greatest singer of my Time. this cd is outstanding. I'm Wish The Nancy Wilson Show at the Cocoanut Grove, This Mother's Daughter, and Gentle is My Love can be released on cd ASAP because my records are wore out. Also the cut When We Were One needs to be put on a CD. Please Help me Out. :)

          The purchase of this cd allowed me to hear Nancy's stunning version of "I've Never Been to Me" for the first time as well as "You're As Right As Rain" and others. Her albums from the seventies aren't as fondly remembered as her sixties albums but she did turn out some great music during that decade. The bulk of the tracks on this 2 cd set come from her sixties albums. "I'm Beginning to See the Light", from her live album, "The Nancy Wilson Show", is the first track from that album to make it on cd. It makes you wish that whole album were available on compact disc, ideally with previously unreleased bonus tracks.
