Customer Reviews:
Good solid performance.......2007-04-11
If you've heard the Derek Trucks Band then you'll want this. It is a good solid performance, maybe not as controlled as the DVD Songlines Live, and a lot looser. This sounds like they're testing out some of the material that ended up on Songlines and it is interesting to see where it is here.
Stop reading the reviews and just buy it - you'll like it.
Keep track of this young man.......2005-12-17
Derek Trucks is a remarkable, emerging improviser. He, with the support of a solid, capable band, is interpreting songs in a soulful, heart-felt way, delivering music with a distinctive sound and feel.
Watch him play, and you'll see a young man peacefully focused on reaching into the music. He doesn't waste an ounce of energy on posturing, wincing, or going through the choreographed paces too often seen in many of his contemporaries.
Reminiscent of the great East West era Paul Butterfield Band, featuring Mike Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop, this group, driven by Truck's passionate guitar, has updated the 60's to full-blown turn of the century fusion.
Get it, but don't get ripped off by people pretending it's a hard to find import. Go to the source - hittinthenote dot com - and pay the players.
Great CD.......2005-12-06
I Went to this show, and I recorded it with a little hand held tape recorder. Of course, it sounded terrible, but at least I could hear it again. Now I got it on cd, and it sounds great! I've seen Derek Trucks 6 times over the past 10 years, and this is the best I've ever heard them play. This cd is a must have!
Watchout for the import, it only has one disk, and half of the show!
Also if you are having trouble finding it, try the Derek Trucks web site, you can get it there!
ESSENTIAL for fans.......2005-12-05
For fans of Trucks and The Allman Brothers this live recording needs no more recommendation, it is a great show and recording; familiar songs but done with enough variation to keep it interesting.
For the casual listener there is alot to recommend here as well. A killer tight (but loose) band playing their eclectic mix of southern rock-funk-jazz-blues with passion and playful virtuosity. There is no mistaking this band's sound, the funky groove and sinuous slide. This may not be a recording for all moods (Truck's tends to sound like he's working a large power tool when he gets warmed up), but it is great for what it is. (Look online at the Hittinthenote website to order more cheaply and easily)
Why this isn't more available is beyond me..........2005-11-04
This double-set CD is, in a word, fantastic. I am amazed and incredulous that it is only available either as an import or through the occasional vendor for over 25 bucks. This one should be on everyone's holiday want list! If you are familiar with Derek Trucks, this live set extends the jam and expands the fusion. Blistering guitar by young Derek hisself, plus the funk/jazz flute by Hofi Burbridge, new vocals by Mike Mattison, and the groove laid down by Yonrico Scott & Count M'Butu (and Todd Smallie on bass). A bit of Allmans old and new, jammin' like Gov't Mule, and throw some hot jazz in there (at times I heard shades of 70's Herbie Mann...ooo!), plus de funk (kind of a touch of Santana, too). It's just perfect. Not sure if you're in the mood for jazz or funk or blues or rock? No problem! Stick this in your player and get down-- or get up. You can do both, or either. Someone, somehow should make this more accessible and affordable. This ain't no commercial pop-crap; this is quality music. Derek Trucks is a genius. This is my choice for the best of the year. Find it, buy it, have fun, enjoy!

Customer Reviews:
if you like music, this album is for you.......2005-10-11
Alright, so trey flubbs the arpegios at the beginning of yem, but parts of the yem, like the lyrical section and later solos are some of the best out there, they all just rip it up. Then theres the reba and the colonel forbin/fly famous, possibly the best versions of these songs.
The Remain in Light is practically flawless, Trey nails all of the abnormal solos with his own twist, and Gordon slaps all the bass lines while still keeping to the heads themes. Born under punches and houses in motion are spectacular, and the version of The Great Curve is perhaps one of the best songs of all time, the first solo is perfect, and the second goes into this ridiculous jam, which the horns add to a lot.
To top it off, the open the third set with a sick Brother, and keep it fresh until the simple, the song part of Simple is pretty solid, and if you wait through the five minutes or so after that part (through the long bass drum and keyboard jam that doesnt change until about 11:00) trey comes in with this really intense pitch and they go into one of their best jams of all time... This show is easily one of their best performed.
One word: Reba.......2005-09-19
Ive listened to almost all of the live phish series, as well as having 30+ additional shows on discs. Of all of them, this is the best version of Reba I have ever heard(though the white album show's reba is quite comparable). From the moment the vocals start, you can tell this is going to be a good one. Trey is on like I have never seen before, his guitar is just singing, his vocals are right on the mark, its completely awe inspiring. All 15 minutes remain interesting, not trance playing, but jams that really go places.
Whats even better, is that the rest of the show is essentially as good. As a talking heads fan who has both this cover and the actual album, I can say that phish really tackles this one.The other halloween covers, especially the white album, honestly arent better than the original. This, in my opinion, is. They just nail it on the head and take it a step further.
This is one of the peaks of phish. They're starting to move away from their early humor and eclecticism and heading towards the more focused funk of the wonderful 97. You get some bonus gamehendge material in colonel forbins ascent > fly famous mockingbird, a great little tidbit. This has some excellent funky bass from Gordon, superb trey playing(especially compared to post hiatus), fishman holding it together as always, and page doing well also(page's best stuff is the tweezer set from LivePhish 18, check it out).
If you are a phish fan at any level beyond farmhouse and bouncin round the room, you should check this out. Maybe listen to a live one or slip, stitch, and pass first, but this may well be the best live phish release available and would get my hands on it as soon as possible
need right discs.......2005-08-06
You guys sent me the cd case but when I opened the cd, it had the Las Vegas show. I ordered another one and it happened again if you could send me the Omni show I will be happy to rate it. I am not very happy with the problem I have had trying to get the right cd, or the one that I ordered. Could you please send me the right Discs I already have the cover. If you look at my records you will see I have ordered two Atlanta Phish shows and both of them have been the right case but when I opened the cd case it was the Las Vegas show. Please Please help me out with this problem, I really want the Omni show so please send it.
The tapes don't lie...required listening........2004-12-02
I was lucky enough to have attended this, and with the exception of Big Cypress Y2K, it was the best Phish show I've been to. When I bought this volume of Live Phish, I was hoping I didn't build up that Halloween night in '96 TOO much in my head over the years...but after hearing it, it only confirmed that the boys were indeed on fire. Talking Heads' "Remain In Light" album was right in the bands' wheelhouse, and surpasses the other albums Phish covered on Halloween ("Crosseyed and Painless" even re-appeared several times in future shows & has become a fan favorite). As for the other material, standards like "You Enjoy Myself", "Reba", "Down With Disease", and "Maze" are cream of the crop versions, and rarely is there a weak moment anywhere else on these CDs. This is a "desert island" show, so pick this up NOW...
Live Talking Heads album included.......2004-06-08
A wonderful version of Remain in Light. It's like getting a brand new Talking Heads album as a present in 2004!

Great Playing, Not So Great Mix.......2007-07-10
Is it just me? I can't agree with those who rate the sound quality of this otherwise remarkable set. To these ears, there are too many vocals (and some flute) that sound a little off mike, and the balance between instruments is sometimes poor. Although it's not, it sounds to me like a live broadcast mix.
That said, I'd walk across broken glass to see this band play.
This set has a weird retail history, being touted first (I believe) as an iTunes-only release. I bought my copy for a very reasonable $9.98 from www.shopbootlegs.com, but it's out-of-stock there as at July 2007. I certainly wouldn't pay the exorbitant import price. Shop around.
Don't buy this.......2006-07-03
You can buy it for $10 at the Sony Music Store (linked from the band's website).

Very good live album.......2005-04-08
This is very good in every aspect. A nice performance, good song selection and excellent sound quality. It is a 2 disc set and just at 2 hours long. The tracks are 5 to 15 minutes long.
I think the music on this CD rates between four and five stars. I am giving it 5 stars because of the excellent sound quality, mix and editing. It has a great dynamic range, with a mix that rivals a studio recording. Plus, the audience noise has been kept to a minimum. This is a real treat comparing this to some recent live CD's by the Allman Brothers, Gov't Mule and especially Dave Matthews, which have poor sound and mix and has the audience cracked up over the level of the band in some places.
If you have any of the studio albums or have heard the Derek Trucks Band live before, there are no surprises on this album. Most of the songs come from the studio albums. They are played like the studio albums, only the songs are stretched out more.
These are very good performances by excellent musicians. The music is entertaining and interesting throughout. If you like anything by Derek Trucks, you are sure to love this CD.
If you have trouble ordering this CD, you might want to try going directly to the Derek Truck's site, or Sony Music.
UPDATE: MANY OF THE SONGS ON THIS LIVE SET ARE ON THE NEWLY RELEASED STUDIO ALBUM, SONGLINES.

An Excellent Snapshot of a Raw and Hungry Band.......2004-06-29
While this does not have the polished mastering of a studio record, this is a great live album. Yes, the vocals are a little subdued at first, but they are not inaudible. Whoever mixed the recording realized after the first song the vocals were buried, so they turned 'em up a little. Keep in mind this record was mastered from TAPES of a LIVE recording that was never intended to be released to the general public. Throughout, however, the mixing is clean and balanced, the vocals are in front, as they should be, the bass and drums are present but not overpowering. The cymbals are crisp as are the guitar licks, however they are not clipping (exceeding the maximum volume input, causing square waves, basically fuzzy noise). Halfway through the album, the band is on fire, tight and firing on all cylinders. Hell, it DOES sound like a studio recording at points.
There are shades of the Allman brothers in certain passages and echoes of Skynyrd in the slide guitar. And, yes, that good ol' Northeastern Florida accent that we are all accustomed to hearing live from Donnie Van Zant, brother of Synyrd frontman and part-time frontman himself, from the band .38 Special. Also in common with frontman Don Barnes of .38 Special, Molly Hatchet doesn't have the crowd in the palm of their hand, they have their arm around the shoulder of the crowd, like an old drinkin' buddie.
As a performing and recording musician myself, a son of the South and a lover of the raw, blues-influenced spirit of Southern Rock bands, I would highly recommend this record to Molly Hatchet fans. It's also a great embarcation point for you younguns who are out there cuttin' your teeth in the smoky bars and keepin' it real.
Enjoy, and have fun.
~R
This CD would have been incredible...IF...................2003-12-02
Danny Joe Brown's vocals are barely audible except between tracks when he's talking. Whoever remastered this should have turned up the vocals a tad. If they had done this, I think this would have been one of the greatest live Southern rock concerts ever recorded.
A Great Live Artifact From A Great Band.......2002-09-25
This archival show by Molly Hatchet is absolutely stupendous. It features the earliest known recordings of several songs bound for FLIRTIN' WITH DISASTER, including "Let The Good Times Roll", "One Man's Pleasure", and "Boogie No More." It also features the first live versions of some songs from the first album, plus the otherwise unrecorded "T For Texas", "Harp Jam", and "Crossroads." The centerpiece is the cautionary midtempo grinder "The Creeper." Overall, this CD belongs in any Southern rock record library
LIVE AT THE AGORA BALLROOM (LIVE).......2001-03-26
DON'T EXPECT AN AIR TIGHT RECORDING. EXPECT RAW, UNBRIDLED, UNINHIBITED, ENTERGETIC, TRUE TO THEIR ROOTS, SOUTHERN ROCK 'N' ROLL. IF YOU ENJOY STAYING UP LATE AND HAVING A FEW BEERS WITH YOUR FRIENDS WHILE LISTENING TO KICK ASS ROCKERS, THIS MAY BE JUST WHAT YOU NEED.
Theo's thoughts on Hatchet at the Agora.......2001-01-23
It's too bad that a band of this calibar has to be associated with such a poorly recorded product. The 3 stars are out of respect for a band I've truly loved to listen to for more than 20 years. Any audiophile who's a fan of MH should consider not buying this CD. Having said that, and on a positive note, this '79 show at the Agora would have been one to attend! Great set list with some previously unreleased material (as far as I'm aware)...Jimmie Rodger's "T For Texas" and Robert Johnson's "Crossroads". The introduction to the players ("Harp Jam") is a highlight as well. This band of "originals" are about as tight as a band gets when they're "on". They were close at the Agora, but slightly off on several tracks, especially the opening track of "Bounty Hunter". They did warm up though, and the unbridled "rawness" of this very talented group of players shines through.

Product Description
Live at Earthshaking Music is a double CD set of the incredible SS Puft Quartet of Athens with a very special guest, saxophonist Dave Rempis (of Chicago's Triage and Vandermark 5, among others).
With wildly versatile guitar genius Colin Bragg, innovative trumpet colorist Jeff Crouch, expressionistic drum master Blake Helton, the redefined bass-plus of H'arpeggionist Erik, and the serpetine brilliance of Dave Rempis, this is free music for the next century...a true hybrid of five highly idiosyncratic energies.
From explosion to whisper, rocket to crawl, every moment is compelling, beautiful, and distinct.
Expertly recorded by Jeff Rackley before an audience at one of the hot spots for great music in Atlanta.
