Customer Reviews:
Little Wonders - Rob Thomas.......2007-06-16
I think this song is fab and deserves to be in the GB charts, as yet I have never heard it played on the radio in the UK only in Australia. I think thre track just grabs you, the word are good and Rob is a great singer.
Can It Get Any Better?.......2007-05-30
I've always found Rob Thomas to be a talented crafter of hook-laden songs. His distinctive voice lends itself well to his writings, and the results are songs that are instantly likeable and memorable.
"Little Wonders" continues that streak and then some. There's a haunting, almost sentimental, feel to this song that is unshakeable. The gorgeous, U2-like opening imposes a sense of sadness to the song, but the lyrics lift the song to another place. They say that, in the end, the best parts of life are found in the little things that mean the most.
My only recommendation is to spend a few extra dollars and pick up the soundtrack to "Meet the Robinsons"... I haven't seen the movie, but the other singles on the CD are great, and Dany Elfman's scoring is always entertaining.
Very uplifting.......2007-05-05
Wow!
Rob Thomas has an excellent voice and this song is so uplifting. It has certainly inspired me to get back into songwriting.
Great chorus, great riffs.
Very Rob Thomas, very catchy.
Not a bad movie either.

Hey not "98.6" but worth owning!.......2007-06-24
As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" and a former radio disc-jockey, I am often asked to write and or discuss various recordings from the 60's and 70's.
It is inexcusable that the powers that be behind the CD release of "One Hit Wonders" could take a 5 Star idea and turn it into ***.
The first and not as egregious as the second error is the total playing time. With a myriad of great tunes left off the release they could have given 12-14 tracks. To think a CD holds 80 minutes and not even half is full!
As two other fine reviews stated previously (M.Doane and Jonathan Schult) the legendary "One Tin Soldier (The Legend Of Billy Jack)" by Coven is not the version the listener is in tune with. It is both misleading and disgraceful.
This sort of thing was taken one step further frequently in Europe in the late 1960's and early 1970's by offering discount compilation of hits but the original recordings were not used. Hired studio musicians performed the tunes!
The majority of news here is good. "Reflections Of My Life - The Marmalade" is one of the finest and most intense lyrical compositions ever. You could make a case that as long as its contents are found here anything else is gravy.
"Come On Down To My Boat" - Every Mother's Son reminds us older folks of the great summers past. The first note takes you back to a simpler world. We didn't have the internet or even calculators but we did have some amazing rock and roll radio.
"98.6" - Keith may be the most underrated tune on the CD. Although simplistic in its arrangement, something sticks in the brain from the initial listening.
"Monster Mash" - Bobby Pickett is a staple of every Halloween. People were laughing then and still are now, but we are still enjoying the song.
Ten solid tracks and only a couple of gripes. Not bad.
Enjoy the music and be well,
Craig Fenton

Not Coven's original.......2007-02-24
I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but the version of "One Tin Soldier" by Coven on this CD is not their original. The original Coven version was on Warner Brothers and charted in 1971 to # 26 on the Hot 100. This CD's version was a re-record (although arranged and conducted by the same person, Mundell Lowe) and released on MGM Records, and charted almost two full years later, to # 79. Five months later, the Warner single re-charted to # 73. Further, the Coven version (both, actually) are better and more impassioned than the Original Caste version, which suffers from an overstatement of "mellow". The Warner's version of "One Tin Soldier" is available on volume 7 of Rhino's "Have A Nice Day: Super Hits of the 70s"
One Hit Wonders.......2007-01-05
Great songs. if you like the old songs, you will like this CD
HUGO is correct!.......2006-10-24
I have this CD and I had both The Original Caste's and Coven's versions of "One Tin Soldier" on 45 rpm record. Coven's version got the bulk of the airplay back in the day, but The Original Caste version is all I hear on local oldies (I live near the Canadian border) and on XM Radio's '70s station. All selections on this CD are the original versions. It gets only 3 stars from me for having only about 30 minutes of music.
ORIGINAL CASTE's .......2006-08-06
For all the hoopla and erroneous credit the band "Coven" got in the early 70's for their much latter version, they did not release the 1st and original hit version of "ONE TIN SOLDIER". It was recorded and issued in 1969 by a Canadian group, THE ORIGINAL CASTE, and it was they who actually recorded the more definitive, superior and memorable version still played on Oldies radio stations to this day. This has caused much confusion with music fans of the song over the years. Coven recorded a "cover version" of the song which was used by Warner Brothers for their "BILLY JACK" movie at the time, as it made sense to use a band's version that was also signed to the label, therefore Coven recieved the lion's share exposure/promotion twice over for "ONE TIN SOLDIER", but their scaled down smaller band version is actually the weaker of the two. THE ORIGINAL CASTE version is more orchestrated and well balanced around Dixie's up front and centered impassioned vocal affair by far. The ORIGINAL CASTE was started as the "North Country Singers" in 1966. They changed their name to "The Original Caste" in 1969. It was a group of five people with the married couple of Bruce and Dixie Lee Innes at its core.
At first, they released two singles through DOT records, with little success. In 1969,they signed contract with the T.A. Records division of Bell Records. The single "ONE TIN SOLDIER"[composed by Lambert/Potter] and the album of same title were released. It has become a highly coveted collector's item.
They were produced by Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter who became the celebrated lead songwriters/producers at Dunhill Records as they churned out hit after charting hit with various recording artists in the late 60's and throughout the first half of the 70's decade. The ORIGINAL CASTE's group leader, Bruce composed several excellent and fully loaded pop songs found on their debut album.
Title song "One Tin Soldier"[Bell/TA-186] was more popular in U.S.A.(No.34/Billboard Chart; 1969)than their next single "Mr. Monday", yet, both hit #1 in their native Canada and Japan, respectively. Many cover versions of "One Tin Soldier" had been issued subsequently. Especially, Coven made this tune appear to the US charts four times and it was used for the Original Sound Track of the Warner's Movie named "Billy Jack". The music director of this movie's soundtrack wanted to use the original version by THE ORIGINAL CASTE, but the episode was that The Coven, signed band of The Warner Records, was in haste chosen because of the movie and record company's relationship.
Bruce, Dixie & The ORIGINAL CASTE's recording era/career continued in various forms as a group and solo[Dixie]recordings for about eight years[1968-74]and the final album "Back Home"[issued 1974] was left after their original member's group were dissolved in 1972. Dixie & Bruce continued to tour with various new members until 1980.
Dixie Lee lives in British Columbia, state of Canada. Bruce resides in Sun Valley, Idaho, and keeps his music career alive by playing his inspiring folk music in local concerts, issuing his independent label recordings and also tours with an all new line up of THE ORIGINAL CASTE, circa 2005. In 2000 he discovered singer Cheryl Morrell, which led to reforming The Original Caste along with long time Original Caste bandmate Gary Carlson.
A Japanese Import reissue Cd of the ORIGINAL CASTE's first album, "ONE TIN SOLDIER", is available at www.amazon.com - I hope this finally clears up all the confusion.

Bubblegum ditties of the Baby Boomers.......2007-04-14
Here are the obscure recordings of "Flash-in-the-Pan" artists and "hits" of us Baby Boomers! Stuff that was the temporary fodder of Casey Kasum and the "top 40' "Hit" radio stations across the United States in the '60's.
One Hit Wonders that were played over and over in their time then promptly forgotten. They were re'released in the many incarnations of "K-Tel," then forgotten again as these K-Tel records found their way to thriftshops, then landfills.
If you want to reminisce about all that "bubblegum" heard as a child, be more imaginative! Pass this one by and instead purchase The Resident's Third Reich and Roll! Only The Residents could give these "one hit wonders" the ROASTING they DESERVED!
Got me what I wanted..........2007-01-05
OK, I wanted "Then You Can Tell Me Goobye" by the Casinos, and here's a CD that provided it. Very nice. The rest of it? Ehhhh...., could be worse, I guess. Only real disappointment was the version of "Everlasting Love" by Robert Knight. While Knight may have been the original, Carl Carlton certainly recorded what has become the definative version of this song and Knight's pales by comparison. That's the way it works with compilations, you get the good with the bad. Glad I bought it, though!
One Hit Wonders.......2005-09-06
They definately are wonders. Wonderful that is. Great cd, bought for our DJ biz, but it seems to end up in my car alot!
Can't get enough of them!
Back for more.......2005-06-29
Vol. 2 of Bartley's anthology of one-hit wonders isn't quite as consistently good as the first, but it's still a fine balance of obscuros and hard-to-find well-known hits. It was great to have Robert Knight's original '66 version of "Everlasting Love" at my fingertips, for example, as well as Merilee Rush's "Angel of the Morning."
You can find a couple of the hits elsewhere ("Hang On, Sloopy" can be found in several places, while "Expressway to Your Heart" is on the three-CD "The Philly Sound" Philadelphia International collection), but this was, for years, the only CD where you could find the killer white soul shouter "No Good to Cry" by Connecticut band The Wildweeds (now on a killer 2002 collection called "No Good to Cry: The Best of The Wildweeds"). The song, written and sung by the teenage Al Anderson (before his long run with NRBQ and his successful career as a country songwriter), charted big in its home state (where I grew up) and in the South, but just made the upper 80s in Billboard; you fans from the rest of the country will wonder just how the hell this didn't become one of the all-time great chart hits.

On their follow-up to 1999's Right Back, the Long Beach Dub Allstars continue stirring their musical melting pot. Wonders of the World combines heavy dub, shimmery pop, bouncy ska, and aggro alt-rock into a disc that roller-coasters between spaced out ("Wonders Dub II" and "Grass Cloud") and punked out ("No Way"). The ex-Sublime members also pulled in some talent from the hip-hop world, getting will.i.am from Black Eyed Peas on "Sunny Hours" and Chali2na from Jurassic 5 on "Life Goes On." Even with all the special appearances and genre-crossing, though, the Allstars don't crack the surface, covering the same ground that bands like Sugar Ray and 311are already treading. While the band does flow seamlessly between rock and reggae, Wonders of the World feels coated in a tepid, radio-friendly gloss that, despite a few bright spots, dulls by the end of the disc. --Jennifer Maerz
Customer Reviews:
I'm Impressed!.......2006-08-24
I'm sure you've heard, Long Beach Dub Allstars is not Sublime. In some songs there is little bit of the Sublime style, but just a tiny bit; I didn't expect them to be Sublime either. I expected something totally different from what LBDA really is. And I like them alot more than I thought I would.
awesome album.......2005-12-21
When you buy this, don't expect quite the same as Sublime, but it's still awesome in its own right. Some songs are remniscent of Sublime but there's a lot more dub and reggae. I can't say the singer is quite as good as Bradley but he's still quite good and I love listening to this album on my ipod. It's worth the money just for "Sunny Hours," "Listen to DJ's," and "Lonely End" but the other songs are awesome too and this CD is a hell of a lot better than 99% of the crap they play on the radio. This is one of my newest favorite bands in its own right.
Pathetic.......2005-10-05
I Bought this cd beacause there first cd right back was great.
Theres one good song on this cd the rest suck.
Right back was nice and fresh almost like sublime this one sounds
totally diffrent its offspring meets britney spears meets sublime there vocals are okay but music wise they sucked on this cd.
All Around Mastery.......2005-01-25
Most people don't like LBDAS because they expect to hear Sublime. Long Beach Dub Allstars is not Sublime, but they are a collection of incredibly talented musicians with a wide range of styles. This album has everything, great songs by both Opie and RAS-1. Does anyone know if this album is out of print?? I'm not able to find any place that stocks it.
Best Cd In A Long Time.......2004-04-29
Lately, I have realized that not a lot of real good music have been put out in the past years. One day i was searching in the mall for a new cd i would want to try out. I rembered hearing about a band formed with some of the remaining members of Sublime. I found it in the store and brought in home. The first few times I didn't really like it. After a few times I started to like more. After like a month I would listen to it at least once a day. the cd starts out great With Sunny Hours feat Will I Am and Rolled up, both songs at least up to par with good Sublime songs. It gets even better with songs like Life Goes On, It Aint easy and No Way. The cd finishes a little slow with another suuny hours and grass clouds which is instrumental but still hits some good songs like talkin the truth and kablammin it. Exept for the two just mentioned, this cd is all A material and should be a part of any Sublime liking fan or any fan of just music. It doesn't get that much attention but is definitely worth it. plus it has an awesome cd cover.

Barry Williams 'One Hit Wonders' IS GREAT..........2007-06-13
I haven't heard most of these songs in years...The CD is great. I listen to it mostly everyday....and its good to see BARRy WILIAMS face on the cover...
Thanks....
One Hit Wonders.......2007-03-09
This album was a bit like attending a class reunion. The songs you thought were your favorites have lost a bit of their luster and those you didn't particularly care for now are surprisingly touching. The music hasn't changed so it must be the beholder? In the 70's "Please Come to Boston" was painful to experience; now it's like an old friend. "My Maria" has become a trigger to all sorts of memories. I wonder why I didn't think about it over the years. Try this album--it's a time machine.
So nostalgic.......2007-01-09
This is a great CD and brought back lots of memories. A few songs where we hit the skip button, but overall a feel good compilation for those of us in our 40's now. (ouch, I know) I would definitely recommend it.
One Hit Wonders.......2006-09-21
Excellent CD! It will bring back those memories from the 70's.
Brings Back the Memories.......2006-09-10
This Cd is really good, it is well worth getting. The music of the 70's is really good for family listening and it is nice to be able to play it with family.Kids nowadays like newer music but this CD relates to now generation too as alot of kids nowadays are listening to the 70's music and think it is great, my kids are 14 and 16 and even they love it. It is well worth checking out and I know I am very happy with it. If you are a music fan you will be too.Hearing Vicki Lawrence sing The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia was something that brought back memories of being in high school for me and hearing it on my schoolbus. Wow!!!! I am very impressed with the CD.

Anthrology KICKS!!.......2006-10-03
This is an excellent cd to add to your collection if your one of those true die hard Anthrax fans! "No Hit Wonders 1985-1991" takes you all the way back to the beginning from "Armed and Dangerous" to "Attack Of The Killer B's". Great songs such as "A.I.R", "Efinkufsin (N.F.L.) and "Be All, End All" is all you old schoolers would want to hear on a 2 disc cd.
THRASH LIKE AN ATHELETE!!
hellz yeah its anthrax.......2006-09-08
all i can say is you gotta buy this because its anthrax and its makes me want to jump up and down and make out with people i don't care what kind of metal your into you gotta like and respect anthrax so even if your not a big fan you need this at least
It's old school Antrax!!.......2006-07-08
If you liked the Joey days, you'll like having all the old tunes re-mastered and sounding better than ever. I did enjoy this cd for what it is, however truth be told, I much prefer Jon Bush as their frontman as his voice is a thousand times better than Joey's ever was.
Pick up The Greater of Two Evils as it features classic Anthrax tunes done right and while your at it, pick up We've Come for You All and Sound Of White Noise. All of these are awesome cd's from a band that has gotten no credit over the years.
Sounds MUCH better.......2006-06-01
Like many of you, I'd prefer that they would just re-release their Belladonna material completely remastered, but this is worthwhile in the meantime, or even if they never get around to doing that. This is a surprisingly comprehensive set, as it literally has like 2/3 of the classic Anthrax material. Frankly, this will probably still be worthwhile even after the full re-masters are re-released, if ever, as it's got 7 of the 9 tracks from 'Spreading the Disease' and pretty much all the good material from 'State of Euphoria', so I dunno if replacing those would even be necessary. Again, the remastering makes it sound much better overall. It varies some, depending upon the album, but it's always notable. I'd actually recommend this to people looking to get into Anthrax despite the fact that I'm generally opposed to getting greatest hits compilations. (Greatest hits are for housewives and little girls, remember?) But this is just so damn comprehensive, at least of the era it covers, that it's actually a very good representation. And the material itself? Oh, it's pretty much all totally classic thrash, with a few other fun things thrown in like their cover of 'Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath' and 'Bring Tha Noise'. Simply put, Anthrax put out some of the best thrash of all-time, and most of it is here.
Yeah, this is a very good collection.

IF YOUR A JOHN BUSH FAN, AS MYSELF, YOU HAVE TO WONDER WHY? JUST WHY? AS A LONG TIME ANTHRAX FAN, I ALREADY HAVE ALL THIS MATERIAL. WHY FLEECE ME FOR ANOTHER 30.00? THERES AN OLD INTERVIEW FROM BEFORE THE REUNION WHERE SCOTT REFERS TO FANS OF THE JOEY ERA AS PEOPLE WHO "ONLY GO TO ONE SHOW A YEAR, DONT BUY ANYTHING NEW, THEY STILL LISTEN TO WHAT THEY LISTENED TO IN THE 80'S" I'M VERY DISSAPOINTED IN MY ONE TIME FAVORITE BAND. AS A 46 YEAR OLD WHO GOES TO TONS OF SHOWS A YEAR AND TRIES TO LISTEN TO NEW MATERIAL, I BELIEVE IN MOVING FOWARD. SO, IF YOUR OLD RECORDS WERE RUINED WHEN YOUR BASEMENT FLOODED BUY IT,OTHERWISE, NOTHING NEW HERE. THERES A SONG TESTER(STOMP 442),THE LINE IS: YOU'LL BE HERE TODAY, GONE TODAY. TO TRUE.

Refreshing to watch and listen.......2006-04-27
We first purchased Praise Baby Born to Worship DVD and it was instantly a success soothing a very upset newly adopted 13 month old. She was new to English as well as a whole new country, but this and later the other two Praise Baby DVDs, God of Wonders and Smiles and Praises, have been her absolute favorites. My husband and I love them too, they are so well done and are a joy to listen to. We often get caught up ourselves in worship as we watch the DVDs with her
Better than the first one.......2005-01-14
I received "Praises and Smiles" on CD as a baby shower gift. My baby loves it, as do I, so when this album came out, I had to get it. I am so glad that I did! The music selection is wonderful (I am perhaps biased, though, as "Be Thou My Vision" is my favorite hymn), and beautifully recorded. The music quality on this CD surpasses that of "Praises and Smiles" which was very good. I play this CD constantly in the car, and Isaac finds it very soothing.
very well done.......2004-10-17
I am cautious about buying both praise albums and children's albums, mainly because there are so many out there that are poorly done. Not so with this album. I bought it yesterday at a Christian bookstore sale because I liked the mix of songs on it, although I didn't have high expectations for the arrangements. (I had not heard samples of the album before I purchased it - this was a true risk for me.) I put it in the CD player this morning and I was not only not disappointed, but also pleasantly surprised. I know 11 of the 15 songs, and many of them are favorites. Even the ones I don't care for as much were beautifully done, with gentle, rich female vocals and a lovely (but not "too perfect") children's choir. The arrangements of "Be Unto Your Name" and Michael W. Smith's "Agnus Dei" were especially pleasing to the ear. I think it is a nice way to introduce my 18-month old to quality praise music (besides bringing her to our worship team rehearsals every week). If you are looking for a well-executed album suitable for quiet play or singing in the car (and you are seeking a change from Sesame Street or Veggie Tales), give this album a try.

Album Description
The title says it all, 'The Best One Hit Wonders In The World'. While most artists aim to have a string of hits, here is proof that you can achieve pop immortality with just one. Ranging from the sublime to the, quite frankly, ridiculous, this fantastic double-CD brings you no less than 44 one hit wonders from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. There'll be no argument with the inclusion of, Cutting Crew '(I Just) Died In Your Arms', Deep Blue Something 'Breakfast At Tiffany's' (1996 - No.1 UK Hit), Nena '99 Red Balloons' (1984 - No.1 UK Hit), Trio 'Da, Da, Da' (I Don't Love You, You Don't Love Me, Ha, Ha, Ha) (1982 - No.2 UK Hit), Men Without Hats 'The Safety Dance' (1983 - No.6 UK Hit), The Knack 'My Sharona' (1979 - No.6 UK Hit) and many, many more. 44 tracks in all. Virgin. 2003.
Customer Reviews:
Bemusement.......2004-11-13
I'm aware of a few of these artists and I've heard a few of their OTHER hits... Collections like this one are a great way to introduce people to some of the great music that's been out there, but the title 'one hit wonder' is so often fragrantly misused. It's more often an indication of the ignorance of the titler than anything to do with the band they're describing. Rather than being a collection of 'one hit wonders' this is just another conveniently titled collection of fine pop music from over the years.
I bet you can find at least a dozen "new" one hit wonders.......2004-05-02
"Best One Hit Wonders in the World Ever" is an interesting collection because it comes from over the pond in England, which explains why it has songs by groups like Cutting Crew and the Mock Turtles. But there is more of an eclectic spirit behind the selection of these 44 one hit wonders. To be sure there is something of the international flavor alluded to in the title with Nena's "99 Red Balloons," Piero Umiliani's "Mah Na Mah Na," Lou Basil's "Mambo No. 5," and Los Bel Rio's "Macarena." You have televison represented with the Rembrandts' "I'll Be There For You" and Belouis Some's "Imagination" from "Pretty in Pink."
There are some blasts from the past going back to "Rhythm Of The Rain" by the Cascades, "Fire" courtesy of the Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, "Venus" by Shocking Blue, "Spirit In The Sky" by Norman Greenbaum, "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)" from Edison Lightouse, "All By Myself" by Eric Carmen, and "Lovin' You" by Minnie Riperton. But most of those have been around so long that if you were into music in the 1960s and 1970s you should already have most of those. You can toss in some quirky hits like Tony Basil's "Mickey" and Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy" and there is also a decent sample of more recent one hit wonders as well, with the Knack's "My Sharona," Men Without Hats doing "The Safety Dance," "It's Raining Men" by the Weather Girls, and "Runaway" by Soul Asylum.
But ultimately, what is going to make or break this CD in your mind are going to be the one hit wonders that you never heard before. You have "(I Just) Died in Your Arms" by Cutting Crew, "Mary's Prayer" by Danny Wilson, and "Break My Stride" by Matthew Wilder. Actually, all I really need to say is that I think you will have no problem finding a dozen tracks in this collection that you would appreciate adding to your music library. This is true if you have a dozen or more of them already, which should be the case with just about anybody with a decent music collection. There are not that many #1 songs in this collection (more from the English side as near as I can tell), so this really does go for a wider variety of one hit wonders. Check it out.
Great Collection Of Some Classic Tunes.......2004-04-11
Well, I'd like to start off by saying that if you're looking for some hard to find hit songs from the 60's through the 90's, you won't go wrong with this collection! All of the original hits are here as you remember them. I do have just one disagreement with this collection. Eric Carmen should have not been included on a disc of artists that are "one hit wonders." Anyone who knows anything about music would have never included him in this collection. How about such hits as Change Of Heart, Make Me Lose Control, She Did It and Hungry Eyes from the movie Dirty Dancing. Eric Carmen has quite a collection as a solo artist as well as his work with the Raspberries. So, aside from this mistake, the songs chosen here are a pretty good retrospective of just some of the one hit wonders from the 60's/90's. I really don't think that you can compile a definitive "one hit wonders" collection unless you broke it down by individual years. However, this is a pretty good start. In short, if you appreciate top 40 music that covers several decades, then get this collection. You won't be sorry.
