Petula's French mid-sixties recordings.......2002-10-27

So, you will find version of her hits Downtown (Dans le temps), I know a place (Viens avec moi), You'd better come home (Il faut revenoir) and Round every corner (Va toujour plus loin). Dans le temps is not a translation of Downtown, but a completely different song set to the same tune. The words are melancholy, but unless you know French, you wouldn't realise it from listening to it. I found the English translation of the French lyrics on Petula's official website.

Jack and John is an obscure song that Petula has recorded an English version for. Better known is Regardez-les, the English version of which is Just say goodbye. The version of Hello Dolly included here is half-English half-French. Petula had a French hit with a totally French version (available on Anthologie 3) but never recorded a totally English version. Petula ulso sings brilliant French versions of A well respected man (Kinks) and Nobody I know (written by the Beatles for Peter and Gordon).

Among the French songs here, La gadoue was a top ten hit for Petula in France, and there are plenty of other wonderful songs here to enjoy.
