Customer Reviews:
Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23
THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.
Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14
This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway
Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17
If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

Customer Reviews:
The Isley Two-On-Ones Continue (Thank God).......2007-05-24
BGO RECORDS should be commended for reissuing those classic 70s and 80s Isley Brothers albums as two-on-one cds. The liner notes are great and the remastered sound is excellent. I'm looking forward to the next Isley two-on-one (1981's INSIDE YOU paired with 1982's THE REAL DEAL).
LIVE IT UP (1974) and THE HEAT IS ON (1975) are the Isleys at the peak of their 70s creative and commercial power. By now the Isleys have settled into a formula of funky clavinet riffs, stinging guitar solos, and smooth "sweet lady" ballads. But this formula still sounds fresh over thirty years later. Four classic top ten r&b hits ("Live It Up", "Midnight Sky", "Fight The Power" and "For The Love Of You") are here along with such quiet storm classics as "Hello It's Me" and "Make Me Say It Again Girl".
LIVE IT UP became the Isleys' first of 10 #1 r&b albums, while THE HEAT IS ON surprisingly went to #1 on the r&b AND pop charts. Hey BGO, how about pairing 1977's GO FOR YOUR GUNS with 1980's GO ALL THE WAY? Or 3+3 with HARVEST FOR THE WORLD? (Just a thought)

What ??.......2006-12-10
The idiot from Virginia thought it a bit strange that an American black man would give the communists a chance. Looking back from modern perspective is easier than what he had to go on in the thirtes. Gee, I wonder why a black man would do that after all that southern hospitality, segregation, and steady work you gave the "black folk". Not to mention all those nighttime campfires you had going in their honor.
While I might be from New York I certainly would not be called a bleeding heart liberal but I can certainly understand why the poor soul was looking elsewhere. You are either ignorant of history and its influences on people or you are a totally unsympathetic jackass!!
Nice Voice, but not a nice person...(read on, pls.).......2006-01-07
Paul Robeson, who was brainwashed into
beleiving Communist rhetoric (which is
strange as hell for an Amer-I-can black
man). A good singing voice but all cover
songs! Come on, Paul!
A let down.......2004-09-24
I own several Robeson recordings and purchased this one with high hopes as it has a great selection of tracks. Unfortunately given the excellent recording quality of "Songs for Free Men" and "The Paul Robeson Oddyssey", the remasters from what I assume are 78's and possibly radio are a let down and mar what could have been an excellent album.
The definitive Paul Robeson compilation.......2003-09-19
This 2 CD set of Paul Robeson is the definitive collection providing a decent overview of his work in 50 tracks all wonderfully restored from 78s as usual for ASV, with spirituals, show tunes, Shakespeare-like readings, and more done with a trademark bass voice and orchestration that backs up Paul perfectly and he would later be one of the first civil rights activists. The first disc is a reissue of the single disc "Ol' Man River-His 25 Greatest" on ASV containing "Ol' Man River," "Mighty Like a Rose," "Joshua Fit De Battle Ob Jericho," "Carry Me Back To Green Pastures," "Lazy Bones," and many more classics which is also available here at Amazon for those who only want a single disc of Paul's work and the 2nd disc contains 25 more classics including "Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Seen," "The Old Folks At Home," "My Old Kentucky Home," "Wagon Wheels," "Git On Board, Little Children," and many more. In other words, all 50 of these tracks are essential to any early pop, folk, gospel, blues, etc. music fan and this is the set to introduce yourself to his work in a convenient 2 CD package with the usual great liner notes and details on the original 78s ASV provides with each CD released in their Living Era series.

Mostly hot air..........2005-03-07
I'm gonna take serious issue with other reviews of this CD. I, too, have seen D&K live (on the STREET LIGHT tour) and agree they do sound very good live and put on an impressive concert. However, we're not reviewing a live CD here...this is a studio effort and you have to take it on those terms.
I also have to completely disagree with a claim that they have ANY Deep Purple influence...at least on THIS release. Listen to the clips if you doubt me.
Now, on to my review. This CD was an attempt to return to a more rock-based sound following the poppier releases THE PLEDGE and GO TO THE TOP. They do succeed in putting the teeth back into the guitars, but unlike past successes ("War with the World","Boycott Hell","Life in the New Age","Competition") the songs don't stand as tall. Despite this, Christian radio rewarded the duo with 3 hits: #5 "Talk to Me", #6 "Soldiers of the Cross" and #9 "Never Look Back".
HIGHLIGHTS:
The ode to grace in "Selective Amnesia" churns along nicely, as does the title track, and a call for Christian accountability in "It's my Business". "Divine Embrace" is one of the better "light" tunes.
VALLEYS:
The list of musical sins on this one is fairly long. "God Good, Devil Bad" sums up every complaint anyone has ever made about Christian music being uncreative. It's no wonder this tune was parodied on the Swirling Eddies' "Sacred Cows" album. I just can't believe no one at the label said "Wait a minute, guys...". "Talk to me" is a snoozer. "I Use the J Word" makes dubious conclusions as to why they aren't aired on MTV (Is it REALLY because they have religious themes in their music...or because it's not up to snuff, hmm???) The vocal on "Fight Back" is outright bad.
BOTTOM LINE:
If you're a D&K completist, go ahead and pick it up. Otherwise, this one is really only bait for the incinerator.
Even Christians Can Rock; D&K present a vital message........2002-03-27
I bought this in July 1993 and have really grown attached to this CD. The message of new life in Jesus shines clearly in all of the lyrics, the songs are well produced and the band works together like a precision machine. 'God Good, Devil Bad' is a highlight, as are 'Never Look Back' and 'Soldiers of the Cross.'
I can almost detect a bit of Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore here, so any Deep Purple fans out there might want to give this a listen. I saw D&K live at a show in Tulsa in the fall of 1981 and was impressed; the only better live show I've seen was Eric Clapton in Hartford in 1985.
"Heat it up"- they sure do on this one!!.......2002-03-10
These guys know how to rock out. Like most of their later albums, there's some serious blues-based groove going on in much of the disc. The songs are catchy and there's just enough slower and somewhat mellow songs. At times their sound is ZZ-top-ish which is definitely a good thing. They finish the disc with an excellent funky blues tune called "Fight Back" which always tempts me to relisten to again and again. I hate for it to end!! The musicianship of these guys is very impressive. I once saw them live in concert and got my socks knocked off! Ed DeGarmo is a top notch keyboardist. Dana Key has some awesome guitar pickin' abilities. Tommy Cathey is always solid on his bass. And as far as I'm concerned, I consider Greg Morrow to be one of the best drummers out there today. He seems to know exactly what the song needs every time. If there's a weakness on the album, I'd have to say that the vocals can be a tad annoying like on "Talk To Me." But for the most part, I really like Key's vocals. DeGarmo throws in some fine vocals too in "We Use the J Word." I rated this disc 4 stars, but I think 4.8 is more like it. My slight annoyance of some of the vocals keeps me from giving it 5 stars.

I KNEW FROM THE START 98° WOULD BE A SUCCESS!THE CD IS MUST!.......1999-09-25
From the first time I heard their single, "Invisible Man", I KNEW these 4 talented guys had what it took. It was our job as a fan and a true believer in this group to spread the word. 98° "is" a unique group. It didn't take long before the public eye to notice their true talent went well beyond their great looks. (Their NOT just another pretty boy band.) Their music is pick-me-upper. It truly touches the heart and soul. I highly recommend the import,"Heat It Up."
very inovative,fresh, different........1999-08-14
As a girl who went to school with 3 out of the 4 guys,I feel a huge amount of pride and respect for 98 degrees.Unlike many of the so called 'guy groups' they really have talent.I knew that a long time ago.It is about time the rest of the world is blessed to hear them.
This is the best CD in the world 98 degrees are so cute.......1999-08-09
IF YOU DON'T HAVE THIS CD YOU TOTALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR MISSIN

Following in the footsteps of their "teeny pop" predecessors, Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync, both this Ohio-based quartet and its first "official" video souvenir hew close to market-tested formulae: this is plush, mainstream pop that belies its of-the-moment fashion sense and post-hip-hop choreography with a soft center of courtly romanticism aimed directly at young and preteen girls. Likewise, the companion video couples their hit video clips with two previously unseen performances (one live, the other a studio production), framed by location footage of their personal appearances, exclamatory inserts of giddy fans, and behind-the-scenes interview segments.
If 98 Degrees offers standard-issue accessories (the backward baseball cap, a lone goatee), the group itself is closer to modern R&B than its rivals, especially on the throbbing ballads (including "Invisible Man," the opening clip and the group's debut single). Those creamy harmonies and melismatic lead vocals still shine on uptempo tracks, but it's the slow jams that have snagged their admiring female fans, and that prove most impressive here. --Sam Sutherland

Always Loving 98º!.......2000-04-27
I love this video! When I first heard about it, I just had to get it. Although, it took me a while to obtain it, it was worth it! The video really shows what all of the guys in the group do and how they're feeling. It was like giving you a backstage pass that allowed you to be with the guys! It's the best and if you're a true 98º fan and you still don't have it, go get it now!

I was the first person in my city to buy this video...it wasn't even on the shelf yet the day it was released when I got it! It is THE BEST group documentary that I have ever seen! The greatest part of it is the personal interviews with the guys...I felt like I knew what it was like to be them. The concert footage is also awesome! And if you have always wondered if you'd ever be able to see their first few videos, they're right here! Even if you aren't a fan, buy this video and I guarantee you will be!
