1 out of 5 stars THESE ARE RE-RECORDINGS - NOT ORIGINALS!.......2004-12-30

These are not the original 1960s hits -- they are mid-1980s re-recordings that Petula made in Nashville for her "Give It A Try" album. The other two reviews on Amazon for this CD are incorrect -- they refer to a different but similarly titled CD called "Complete Golden Hits Collection" which does have Petula's 1960s original. This CD from the Masters label is poor quality packaging as well. Do yourself a favor and buy "Ultimate Petula Clark" or "Petula Clark Platinum & Gold Collection" from BMG for the TRUE ORIGINALS and best sound and packaging.

5 out of 5 stars 25 songs, 74 minutes, great sound - need I say more!.......2000-08-17

Learned that Petula is more than just her American hits from my childhood. Seventy-four minutes of good songs! Record companies take heed - put Napster out of business by giving us 25 good songs on one CD. This import recording is a GEM!

5 out of 5 stars Superb voice, great-sounding CD.......1999-12-05

Several fellow music lovers have panned some of the other Petula Clark CDs because of poor mixing and/or lackluster sound. I bought one of those CDs myself -- "Greatest Hits of Petula Clark" on GNP Crescendo. So, I took a chance and ordered a copy of this CD -- "The Complete Golden Hits Collection." It was worth every penny. The sound is excellent, it contains 25 tracks (though the 1988 remix of "Downtown" is good only for disco dancing or working out), and interesting (but poorly proofread) liner notes. Another plus is the song selection -- you get all of Ms. Clark's U.S. hits plus several of her big U.K. hits. And if you're familiar with Ms. Clark's life and career, you know that she cowrote, with her producer/arranger Tony Hatch, "You're The One," a great Top 10 hit for the Vogues in late 1965. Ms. Clark's first-rate (and underrated) version of that song is here, and it's a highlight among many highlights of this CD. If you'd like to hear Petula Clark's original classics, plus a few other gems, on a CD that you won't have to crank up on your stereo (though you'll want to for the sheer pleasure of hearing her superb voice and those solid arrangements fill the room), you may wish to consider this CD. I have no idea if there are better "greatest hits" anthologies of her music on the market as far as sound and selection go, but I'm selling the other Petula Clark CD I have and keeping this one.
