2007 Issued Digitally Remastered Triple CD Set and the Most Comprehensive Collection Ever Released of the Capitol Records Label Recordings (1955-64) from One of the Greatest Singing Stars of Hollywood's Golden Era. The Material is Drawn from all her Capitol Albums plus Hit Singles, Live Recordings and Previously Unreleased Recordings - all Mastered Using the Original Tapes at Capitol Studios in La. The Accompanying Booklet Includes Extensive Sleeve Notes as Well as Rare and Previously Unseen Photos from Miss Garland's Personal Library.

Judy Garland fans who buy this box set will definitely feel they have hit The JUDY GARLAND JACKPOT" and experience musical nirvana here on earth! Oh, Yes!! For starters, you get three complete Capitol Albums, plus excerpts from others, rarities. alternate takes, etc. for a whopping grand total of 72 gorgeous tracks; and very affordably priced, too! The beautiful booklet includes extremely well-written liner notes and stunningly lovely photographs of Our Lady Of Song.
Once Judy was free from the shackles of the MGM movie studio, she started Concert appearances and gave us a brilliant "A STAR IS BORN" at Warner Brothers in 1954. Arriving at Capitol Records in 1955, Judy took charge; determined to sing her songs HER way. With superb arrangements from Nelson Riddle, Mort Lindsey, and others, Judy never sang in the "sweet girl next door from MGM Style" ever again!! She was a woman with a lot of good and bad life experience, and it shows in the rich, robust, warm, full-throttle vocals here.
In addition to Judy's signature songs, you'll hear "Danny Boy", "Last Night When We Were Young", "Me And My Shadow," "Life Is Just A Bowl Of Cherries," "Lucky Day," "Little Girl Blue," "Anyplace I Hang My Hat Is Home," "I Gotta Right To Sing The Blues," "I Concenttrate On You," "If I Love Again," "This Is It", and so many more! The only real great Judy performances I'm missing here are "Hello, Bluebird" and the full-force, dramatic Mort Lindsey arrangement of "By Myself"-- both of these are included on the soundtrack of Judy's final film "I COULD GO ON SINGING" in 1963. For The Record, on the beautiful 1955 recording of "Over The Rainbow" included here on CD One, it does sound as though Judy quietly bursts into tears mid-way through, and just keeps on crying until the finish. Judy's fans, however (and we know who we are!) will be filled with joy. for this beautiful 3-CD Set, along with "THE WIZARD OF OZ," "A STAR IS BORN" and the complete, historic 1961 "CARNEGIE HALL" CD, are all the essentials necessary for a proper Judy Garland Festival. 5 out of 5 stars Rare Manufacturing Glitch Corrected.......2007-06-13

As a member of the production team, I noticed and inquired about the comments that CD #1 had a manufacturing defect. EMI London looked into this with the plant, to learn that it did accidentally occurr on a few pressings, and it has been corrected. Our sincere apologies. It should not happen again. My information is that anyone who has a defective CD should be able to return it to the seller, and they will be supplied a new one. This is most unusual, and again our apologies. We were very pleased to see the comments on the booklet and excellent audio quality, as a great deal of time was spent on them. These recordings are glorious, and we wanted them presented in the best way possible.

The vocals and remastering are superb on this Judy Garland CD. I agree with the reviewer who noted the POOR quality of the first cd. I too, have purchased two copies of this set from two different Amazon sellers and both skip on the "Memories of You " track. Shame on EMI you can even see a bubble on the playing side of the first CD.

This is an excellent collection of Judy's best. She was a great entertainer and singer. Once she sang a song, nobody else could sing it better.

Both Judy Garland's voice and the music on these CD's are incredible. However, on disc 1 song #17 the CD sticks and won't move on to the next song. I have tried 2 different sets of this CD they both stick on the same song in the same place. Perhaps, because this CD was made in England is the problem. I have never experienced this type of problem with any CD. Please let me know if anyone else has experienced this same problem with this CD. Thank you.

Born Frances Gumm, this brilliant singer-actress eventually adopted the name Judy Garland (after an interim period as Frances Garland). Her personal problems, compounded by the pressures of work, are well documented elsewhere, but Judy became extremely popular and successful despite (or maybe helped by) these problems.

Judy Garland's music has retained its popularity far in excess of most of her contemporaries, partly because of her outstanding singing but partly due to the popularity of the movies in which many of the songs were featured. The songs that most people remember Judy for are all here, especially Over the rainbow, Easter parade, The boy next door, On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe and Have yourself a merry little Christmas.

Judy can also be heard singing exquisite versions of Get happy, There's no business like show business, The trolley song, Anything you can do, They say it's wonderful, Embraceable you and many other great songs.

While I would like to have seen I'm nobody's baby and When you wore a tulip, I have no complaints about any of the selections here. There are plenty of other compilations of Judy's music to choose from, but this is a great choice as an introduction to her music.

          This CD offers an excellent collection of some--not all--of the best of Judy Garland's work for Decca Records when she was an actress at MGM. Judy's voice is in excellent form on this CD although there is a fair amount of surface noise on the initial two or three tracks. In addition, just so you know, these recordings are mostly, if not all, the ones she recorded for Decca Records--they are NOT the recordings from the soundtracks of her movies. That having been said, however, this CD does add some splendid bonuses that we would not have heard were it not for Decca Records: Judy's duet with Bing Crosby on "Yah-Ta-Ta, Yah-Ta-Ta (Talk, Talk, Talk);" and her duet with The Merry Macs on "The Atchison, Topeka And The Santa Fe."

          To state that Judy Garland "had the pipes" to be Hollywood's undisputed Queen Of The Musical would be a crass understatement. Judy's voice sensed and invariably expressed every little nuance of every word and phrase she ever sang. Her voice sounded much, much better than any female recording artist or actress I've ever heard. She could sing like a woman whose heart had been so irreparably broken that even the hardest of hearts would be deeply moved. She could also perform a rousing number that would make you want to jump up and dance with joy from the very moment she began to sing.

          On this CD just one listen proves it: Once you've heard Garland, there are no other female singers. She delivers a charming performance of "Over The Rainbow" and this is followed by "Dear Mr. Gable: You Made Me Love You." Her "Friendship" duet with Johnny Mercer charms you and she sings "Blues In The Night (My Mama Done Tol' Me)" in such a way that your heart feels everything she sings. Judy also performs great numbers by George and Ira Gershwin with grand aplomb; her renditions of "Embraceable You;" "But Not For Me" and "I Got Rhythm" stun you with the total synchronicity of the finest Gershwin tune and Judy Garland's magnificent voice.

          This CD also contains alternate takes of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" and "Yah-Ta-Ta, Yah-Ta-Ta (Talk, Talk, Talk)." Wonderful!

          The liner notes include an extensive essay about Judy, MGM and Decca Records by Ron O'Brien; and the notes include several lovely photos of Judy as well. You get the song credits, too.

          I sing the praises of many vocalists when I write reviews of CDs I have in my collection; but there is no one I can think of who deserves praise more than the unparalleled Judy Garland. Indeed, I doubt we'll ever see another quite like her. She was not only a natural talent; she became so polished and sophisticated in her presentations that others could merely aspire to be like her. She remains the greatest American entertainer ever; and she is very possibly the world's greatest entertainer as well. Judy's immeasurable contributions to the arts could never be overlooked or forgotten; and she remains fondly remembered and loved by old fans and new to this day.

          The Very Best Of Judy Garland (Over The Rainbow)is Just what the album title says. This CD features recordings Garland made in the 40s at Decca Records. All of her classic standards are here and sound brilliant. "Dear Mr. Gable" is here from her early years as well as "Over The Rainbow" and her romantic ballads of "Zing! Went The Strings Of My Heart" and "Our Love Affair" you as a listener also will here her version "Blues In The Night", "Embraceable You" and "I Got Rhythm" Both from (Girl Crazy) are here Plus duets with Bing Crosby, Johnny Mercer and Gene Kelly are a must for any music lover. Since Christmas Is coming you will also get to enjoy Judy's Classic carol of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" This album is definately a must for Judy and or Music fans. The Very Best of...also includes one of the very best photo's of Judy on the cover!!

          Smart and well-done compilation of Judy Garland's best-known Decca hit studio recordings (not the film soundtrack versions). The film recordings tend to be better recorded (and are available on a recommended compilation on Rhino), but the sound here is quite good and the performances are classic. "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" features the rarely-anthologized original wartime lyrics that make the song more poignant in my estimation. Booklet includes track-by-track notes with recording dates and context. Nicely done.
