cha cha slide.......2007-05-07
i love this cd and so does my daughter its a great work out cd
Just what I expected.......2007-02-17
I ordered this CD for my daycare kids and my own kid's party times. They love it, thanks!
Great for parties.......2007-01-05
I used this at my kids' Halloween party and it was a hit.
What Comes After The Cha-Cha Slide?.......2006-11-01
I purchased this CD because I wanted a copy of "The Cha-Cha Slide." I listened to a preview of each of the additional cuts prior to ordering the CD, so I knew exactly what I was getting. If you love "The Cha-Cha Slide," you'll love the first two cuts on this CD. But unfortunately, that's all that this CD has to offer. For me, it was still worth buying.
Great Dance Steps.......2006-07-22
I work in a child care facility and my staff were looking for the words and music for the cha cha slide. They were teaching the children so they could perform it at their preschool graduation. Well let me tell you it was a hit and the parents even joined in.
Ever since that night, the other preschool classrooms wanted to have some fun too and I let the other classrooms listen and dance. My only concern is that I don't get to use it too much because it is always on loan. I wish I had more copies! Thank you for helping my staff keep their children learning fun ways to listen, exercise, share and socialize with others.

They Came, They Saw, They Did More Than Just Hummin'.......2007-06-01
Xscape truly brought it to the masses with this album, and in the manner in which they spoke their minds in song, they proved to be a force to be reckoned with and they couldn't be denied. Songs like Just Kickin' It (personally, I prefer the remix over the original), Understanding, and I Got Love On My Mind are 3 major examples off this album that back up my thoughts. It's definitely worth having.
4.5 stars.......2007-04-11
When these talented girls released this short but sweet debut album, they were still very young. But they kept it mature, and that's one of the things I love about them. Nowadays, we can't get an artist or group under the age of 18 coming out without being a bubble gum pop act or a gimmick, talking about childish things like... lip gloss? Also, their harmonies are on point, which we really aren't finding in the industry right now. The production and song-writing is top notch. "Understanding" is so touching; I cried the first time I heard it. I love "Just Kickin' It," the original and the remix. Their take on the Clark Sister's "Is My Living In Vain?" was also a highlight for me. Okay... I liked the whole album! I listen to it straight through. A few more tracks and the exclusion of the interlude "W.S.S Deez Nuts" would've been nice, but I still love it!
Xscape enters the "girl group" market.......2007-01-03
In 1993, Xscape became the latest "girl group" to surge up the R&B charts. Like SWV, En Vogue, and TLC before them, they had a profilic producer in Jermaine Dupri, talented vocalists, and a hunger to succeed. These elements all led to Xscape marching to an incredible debut in Hummin' Comin' At Cha. But enough about history. Let's get into the music.
Xscape reeled off no more than THREE hit singles in 'Just Kickin It', Understanding, and 'Love On My Mind'. Each record was different from each other. 'Just Kickin' It' was a laid-back, midtempo groove that stayed on the charts for months. 'Understanding' was a smooth, sensual, slow-jam that ranks as their best EVER work. 'Love On My Mind' was the typical hip-hop flavor we'd come to expect from JD. Each helped in garnering platinum album sales for the southern quartet.
As with any quality record, good album tracks are present. And Hummin' Comin' At Cha is no different. The tracks to check out are: With You (a smoky, midtempo groove worthy of a single), Is My Living In Vain (an gospel-styled treat that will get your soul stirring), and Tonight (an acapella-laced treat that gets your heart shivering).
In sum, Xscape turned out an impressive debut. Not only did the quartet go on to bigger success, but they also became the front act of JD's label --So So Def -- later in the decade. They would also turn up better records as the decade went on. But, their debut should not go unnoticed. It is the start of their legacy and should be picked up by any music follower, especially those heavy into hip-hop/soul.
Grade: B+
"understanding" is absolutely heartbreaking..........2005-10-22
You know what, I've been looking for this CD for a long time when I was in the Philippines. Now that I'm in the US, I got a chance to purchase this in Amazon. BUY THIS CD! The tracks "Just Kickin It" and "Understanding" will already compensate for your money's worth. I had a heart time listening to "Understanding" though. Its one of my favorite songs of all time, but its absolutely heartbreaking and devastating. The group croons so well and their vocals just shoot me directly to my heart. I can't resist them. I get teary-eyed when I hear the song, especially when they declare the line: "I tried so very hard, to keep the love alive" and "I need some understanding, I wanna be with you..."
Don't take my word for it. Try to listen to the CD yourself. I believe you're a stone if your heart doesn't soften with the song "Understanding":-)
COMMIN AT CHA.......2005-10-08
NOT MY FAVORITE ALBUM FROM XSCAPE BUT IT DID SHOW THAT THESE LADIES COULD REALLY SING. THE HARMONIES AND STRENGTH OF EACH MEMBERS VOCALS MAKE THIS ALBUM GOOD. KANDI'S VOCALS ARE AMAZING ON THIS ALBUM AND UNIQUE . THE SISTERS VOCALS BLEND SO NICELY TOGETHER AND TINY PROVIDES THE COUNTRY IN THIS AMAZING GROUP.

LOVE IT!.......2007-05-13
Love this kind of music - can't get enough - have most all of the CDs. Excellent New Jersey-based company with excellent foresight and retro-understanding for the best party and jazz combos. Excellent choice for any kind of day or evening, party or relaxation time.
Now THIS'LL take the chill off your chili !!!.......2007-03-16
This CD in the Ultra-Lounge series boasts a great track set that will leave you wanting more of that cha-cha-cha! The CD is jammed full of music by many different artists and their orchestras; and there's even a bongo drum lesson at the very end of the CD!
The CD opens with Dean Martin crooning the words to "Sway" which gets the Latin treatment by Dick Stabile & His Orchestra. The mixing of traditional instruments with a Latin beat makes this number shine. "Recado Bossa Nova" by Laurindo Almeida & The Bossa Nova All-Stars follows; "Recado Bossa Nova" has a much purer Latin beat and the musical arrangement uses the guitar very effectively. Once you hear "Recado Bossa Nova" you're going to have incredible difficulty sitting still for the rest of the CD, so clear some room on the floor and prepare for what comes next!
"You're My Thrill" mixes a Latin beat with great use of the horn and drums as Jud Conlon's Rhythmaires infuse it with just a touch of a more traditional American flavor. How's about that piano, too? SMILES
The John Buzon Trio turns in an excellent performance with a solid cha-cha beat for "It Must Be True." As soon as I heard this I wanted a whole CD of John's trio but I didn't find one; and I have no clue why! They give a high octane performance on "It Must Be True" with even an organ thrown into the musical arrangement at just the right moments. This is a high point for this CD.
This CD also contains the classic track "Whatever Lola Wants;" and there is a medley of "Dark Eyes/It Happened in Monterey" by The Mallet Men and 80 Drums Around The World, respectively. Awesome! "A Nêga Se Vingou" shines also with a high energy, fast paced seductive beat and melody that reflects a relentlessly happy outlook on life; and "The Magnificent Seven" shows us how the then-current Latin cha-cha dance craze could be fitted to the score from a major American motion picture, too.
"Desafinado," the second song on this album to be performed by Laurindo Almeida & The Bossa Nova All-Stars, really makes you want to grab your partner and dance, dance, dance for joy! The flute adds a little extra something special to this instrumental track.
"So Nice (Samba De Verão)" will probably be the most easily recognized track on this CD. The organ and percussion carry the melody well; Billy May does a great job with this number.
Some reviewers write that this CD has some filler material. In my opinion, if there is any filler material it is most likely the track entitled "Rock-Cha-Rhumba." This track contains three shorter numbers to illustrate how the advent of rock and roll affected cha-cha music. You may like this; or you may not enjoy this at all. It's a judgment call!
The CD ends with Julie London singing "Sway" with her rather seductive rendition of the very same ballad sung by Dean Martin at the beginning of this CD. I think Dean's version would have sufficed for this CD; they could have added a brand new, fresh track in place of Julie London's "Sway" but the rest of the CD is so good I can forgive this.
The two bonus "hidden tracks" add some color to the CD but they are not the main attraction; some people may even consider them to be pure filler. There is one short track of a man professing his love for his woman as he simply talks about her. If there were only one track I could replace in the track set this number would be it; I would replace it with another musical ballad or an instrumental. The final track gives a brief aural lesson in how to play the bongos; give it a whirl before you dismiss the bongo drum lesson!
The liner notes give the song credits; a wonderful essay by R. J. Smith; and you even get recipes for making margaritas and cuban apricots! Cool! The sound is terrific; Bob Norberg at Capitol Records did a flawless job of digitally remastering these tracks.
The Latin cha-cha craze was just one of several Latin dance crazes sweeping the country in the late 1950s and 1960s. I highly recommend this CD for anyone who enjoys such music; and people who enjoy lounge music or Latin music from the 1950s and 1960s will treasure this CD as well.
¡Olé!
I love the Ultra-Lounge series........2006-12-10
The sound quality of the Ultra-Lounge series is excellent, even though the songs were recorded mostly in the 50's and 60's. Capitol Records packs each CD with carefully chosen tracks consistent with the theme of the particular volume in the series. Many of the selections that appear here aren't available elsewhere, either because the original album on which the song appeared is out of print, or because the song was issued as a single and never collected in an album. A few 'previously unreleased' tracks also appear here. This series is a wonderful introduction to the music of a by-gone era, and each album includes detailed notes on each track (artist, writers, date recorded, how released, etc.). I heartily recommend it to anyone who has an interest in this type of music.
Great on occasion.......2006-08-04
(3.5/5 stars) The range of music on here varies from outstanding (the title track, sung by Dean Martin) to the ridiculous ("Choo Choo Cha Cha" and "Rock cha Rhumba"). I'm not really certain what the purpose of putting two versions of "Sway" on here is, though one would have sufficed. The dance lesson at the end of the CD really seems to be filler material, though it does keep in line with the series. Regardless, there are numerous songs to make this entry in the series worthwhile. "You're My Thrill" and "Whatever Lola Wants" are two of the best, while "Gopher Mambo" is a familiar tune I did not previously have in my collection. This would be great to play at a party or while cooking, but it is not something to listen to very often. Don't rush out to buy this, but if you happen to have money burning a hole in your pocket...
South of the Border Lounge Cha-Cha-Cha.......2005-05-19
If you want to spice up your lounge, this volume contains plenty of spicy lounge classics like "Sway" (two versions, one by Dean Martin and another by Julie London), "Recado Bossa Nova", "The Carioca", "A Nega Se Vingou", "Cha Cha Cha d'Amour", "Desafinado", "So Nice (Sambo)", and "Rock-Cha-Rhumba". Great songs for a hot summer day, trip across the border, or if you just want to imagine being there while having a marguarita.

So much more than mindless muzak!! Xavier, I yi yi yi yi I like you very much !!!.......2007-05-07
Xavier Cugat and his Waldorf-Astoria Orchestra performed so wonderfully you could swear you were in heaven. This CD boasts a marvelous collection of their recordings made between 1935 and 1946; we get a fantastic assortment of rumbas, tangos, congas and more! Dinah Shore and Bing Crosby also lend their fantastic vocal abilities to several of the tracks on this disc.
The CD opens with the classic number "The Lady In Red;" the band makes great use of the percussion, horns and piano as it often did in Cugat's Orchestra. Don Reid & Chorus do a great job with the vocals, too. "The Lady In Red" is chock full of energy and whets your appetite for more. "Jalousie (Jealousy)" follows; this tango opens with a dramatic flourish by the horns and harp and "Jalousie (Jealousy)" generates a whopping amount of energy, too. You'll want to dance to this number for sure!
Other great numbers by Cugat and his Orchestra include the classic "Cielito Lindo" with a particularly upbeat, faster than usual beat and vocals by Chacha Aguilar and Carmen Castillo. Awesome! "La Paloma (The Dove)" also shines as the orchestra plays this so well. "Perfidia (Tonight)" scores another coup for Xavier Cugat and his Orchestra, too.
But there's more. This CD features Dinah Shore with some of her earliest recordings; she sings along with the orchestra as they play the bolero tune "Yours (Quiéreme Mucho);" "La Cumparsita;" "Jungle Drums" and "The Breeze And I." Great! Dinah's voice is in excellent form on these numbers.
Bing Crosby also lends his talent on several tracks including "Siboney" and the wonderful "Baía" which is a slow, romantic samba.
The CD ends with "South America, Take It Away;" I believe that Bing Crosby is featured on this track even though he is not credited as doing the vocals. The chorus does a great job, too. The song has a big band flavor that was so popular in the 1940s.
The liner notes give you an essay about Cugat and his Orchestra by Peter Dempsey; and the songs credits are there, too. The art work is very good.
The quality of the sound is very good considering the age of these recordings. These are the original mono recordings, so please keep in mind that there will be some surface noise but it won't detract from the quality of the sound too much.
Overall, I highly recommend this for fans of Latin music from the 1930s and 1940s; and Cugat fans will consider this CD to be a "must-have" for their collections. The music is romantic and it also provides us with hours upon hours of easy listening music enjoyment.
¡Olé!
Classic Latin Magic.......2005-09-21
Great selections, great sound; hard to believe these weren't original stereo recordings.
Buy!
Excellente!.......2002-07-02
Just got this today and it's exactly what I hoped for! The other reviewers were on the mark! The earlier Cugat orchestration and arrangements are so lovely and evocative. I'm a sucker for the sound of old recordings--these are from the 30's--they just had a warmth that is lost as recording equipment improved. But I still must get something with Besame Mucho . . .
HERE'S LOOKING AT YOU, KID.......2000-12-23
This compilation of Cugat recordings from 1935-1946 is one of the "sexiest" CD'S my collection. If you're a fan of many Hollywood films of that period these arrangements will send chills up your spine. Close your eyes and you're sitting at the Waldorf Bar in white tie with Bogie or George Raft; or you're an OSS agent sitting in a South American cabaret with Andrea King keeping one eye on Conrad Veidt and the other on Akim Tamiroff. The tunes are familiar and haunting. You may not remember the titles but you'll recognize the music of that genre.Several vocals by Bing Crosby and Dinah Shore add to your listening delight. The slow samba "BAIA" is an elixir with greater power than Viagra. The other rumbas, congas and tangos are superb; Cugat's distinctive rhythmic arrangements cast a hypnotic spell on the listener. Buy this album!
Great music from an era gone by...........2000-08-20
While on a Desi Arnez binge, I bought this CD not really knowing what to expect. I had read the book on Cugat by his ex-wife, and was curious as to his music. And what music it is. I've had this CD in my car's changer for two weeks now, and I'm listening to it more than the other five CD's combined. The music is superb, the perfect antidote to a long day at work. There's quite a variety of tunes, and the rhythm section has to be heard to be believed. And this is music that's a half century old! However, a warning to the guys: Listening to this CD may make you want to don tux-n-tails, order a Martini or Manhattan, and then let your feet fly across the dance floor with your Lady Love!

Cha Cha .......2007-07-14
Excellent music and composition. Lively and exciting music allows the dancers to tune in on various beats.
The music is okay.......2007-05-07
I like the second song, tea for two. The others are okay, not too exciting.
A poor choice for practicing cha cha.......2007-04-15
El Gato's Rhythm Orchestra is very hit and miss. Some of this is fun. Except for the first track, I like much of this as music. But this is NOT a good disc for most dancers, and a terrible disc for beginners. Many of the tracks have radical tempo changes (as noted below). Tracks 9-12 are faster than competition tempos, and so better as slow mambos for beginners.
Here are the titles, durations, and tempos:
1. El Musico, 3:22 (21 bpm). Too slow, and painfully sour trumpets.
2. Tea For Two, 3:15 (28 bpm).
3. Dance Of The Hours, 3:33 (28 bpm). There is a radical rhythm change to a fast samba from 1:25-1:55 in this track.
4. Vendedor De Bananas, 4:39 (29 bpm). This is too long for most beginners, and not all that interesting.
5. Amada Mia, 3:26 (30 bpm). There is a radical rhythm change to mambo from 1:20-1:40 in this track.
6. Ojos Oscuros, 2:54 (32 bpm). Beware, the tempo increases toward the end.
7. Swanee River, 3:03 (32 bpm). Odd beginning with no cha cha beat.
8. Vacaciones En Caracas, 3:06 (33 bpm). There is a radical rhythm change from 2:00-2:20 in this track.
9. Volaré, 3:36 (34 bpm). Some odd changes in tempo at random points.
10. Tiritomba, 1:49 (34 bpm).
11. Hello Dolly, 3:12 (34 bpm).
12. Blue Cha Cha, 3:45 (35 bpm). Again, some odd changes in tempo at random points.
Now THAT'S dancing !!!.......2007-03-26
This CD entitled Strictly Dancing--Cha Cha offers an excellent introduction to cha cha dancing for people who want to dance the cha cha. The music bears that distinctive early 1960s Latin American beat and you will enjoy learning the cha cha as you listen to the music on this CD. Naturally, if you wish to just enjoy the music without dancing there's nothing wrong with that, either!
The CD opens with "El Musico;" this number uses the drums, percussion and horns to carry the bulk of the musical arrangement. The piano is great, too! The melody is infectiously catchy; and then the CD goes into a cha cha rendition of "Tea For Two" although this particular arrangement uses the drums and percussion more than the horns. The pace also increases somewhat so that you can begin to dance faster as you increase your ability to do the cha cha. El Gato's Rhythm Orchestra plays these two numbers very well.
Other great numbers on this CD include "Dance Of The Hours" with its lush intro and great horns; the relentlessly upbeat rendition of "Amada Mia" and even a cha cha rendition of Stephen Foster's classic entitled "Swanee River." Great!
"Volaré" is an excellent example of how El Gato's Rhythm Orchestra could fuse together an Italian classic with a distinctly Latin cha cha beat. The drums, percussion and horns again carry the melody; you will not be disappointed by this track. "Hello Dolly" continues in the same vein; this time El Gato's Rhythm orchestra blends together a classic American Broadway show tune with their wonderful Latin cha cha sound. Impressive!
The CD ends with "Blue Cha Cha;" this number has something of a Mexican flavor to it and the tempo is faster than ever for this last number. The horns are wonderful.
Although some reviewers give this CD only four stars I think I will make this a five star review for two reasons. First of all, the liner notes tell very clearly how to dance the cha cha. Although this is done from the man's perspective it was customary at the time for the man to "lead" the woman around on the dance floor. These cha cha dance instructions impressed me. Second of all, the tempo increases as the CD progresses; this offers everyone a chance to gradually increase their ability to dance the cha cha faster and more proficiently with time. The liner notes also give a brief history of the development of the cha cha dance.
Overall, this CD has great music for your easy listening enjoyment. Moreover, this CD also proves to be a handy instructional device you can use to learn how to dance the cha cha. Although the heyday of the cha cha is long gone, this is no reason to avoid learning it. May you get this CD and enjoy it as much as I do!

Good CD + DVD Combo.......2007-06-20
This set is a very good value for the money. Instructions are clear and concise with just enough repetition and footwork shots to make sure you "get it". A very good choice for rank beginners through advanced beginners / early intermediates.
The music CD might not have the greatest choices of songs on it, but considering it's bundled with the DVD, it's still a bargain.
You WILL be able to get out on the dance floor after these lessons!.......2007-05-14
I think this is a great DVD for beginners or those who have taken a couple lessons in the past. Although there is sometimes a difference in how various instructors start/count - the Cha Cha (some start right off with 1-2-cha-cha-cha, others count it 1-2-3-cha-cha-1), you will still be able to catch on with these instructors, who use the second method. I like how they take it slow and show both the man's and the woman's footwork for each move - and they show it more than once. If you know a little about the dance already, you may still pick up a couple of new moves with this DVD. I haven't even played the CD yet, but I'm sure there will be some good cha-cha music to practice to. The instructional DVD doesn't cover a whole lot of different moves, but I think it covers just about the right amount for this level of instruction. I also have the "Anyone Can Salsa" DVD with these same instructors and I like it a lot as well. Give this one a try - especially for the beginner or near-beginner, this DVD will likely give your dancing ego a boost and help you to feel confident about getting out on the dance floor!
Excellent and clear instructions.......2007-01-16
Great DVD to learn basic, intermediate steps. Very clear instructions. Great savings over dance classes and a lot of fun to practice it at home. We pause the DVD and turn the music to practice until ready to go on. Great idea to combine music CD with instructional DVD for a price that would not buy an hour of dance lessons.

Fun CD.......2007-05-13
You have to be a fan of the Pussycat Dolls to enjoy this CD single. It's a fun, although a little repetitive. Excellent dance music that will get you going and in a good mood!
Don't Cha.......2007-04-05
I love the song but I didn't expect the lyrics to have foul language so I can't play it around any young kids.
IT'S COOL YOU WONT BE SORRY UNLESS YOU DONT LIKE THIS SONG !.......2007-01-25
THEY HAVE A FEW COPY'S OF THIS SONG SOME EDIT FOR RADIO A FEW VERSIONS OUT THERE SO BE CARFUL THE COVERS ARE IN OTHER COLORS THAT MIGHT HELP SAME BACK GROUND SOME IMPORTS ALSO BUT A GOOD BUY AT ANY RATE !
From obnoxious to infectious........2006-05-02
When I first heard Don't Cha I thought it was an obnoxious song.
I saw maybe 30 seconds of The Dolls performing on the Nick Awards and was offended once again thinking this song was too mature for a Nickelodeon audience. But for some reason, I was interested, and so I listened to the 30 second clips here on Amazon and was impressed. I bought the album and haven't been disappointed so far.
Even some fans say The Pussycat Dolls shouldn't be taken too seriously and that no one is looking for them to win a Grammy for anything. But why not? Gwen Stefani's Hollaback Girl was nominated for Record of the Year. If Hollaback Girl can be nominated, nobody should give up hope. Now, I love Hollaback Girl, but that's like saying you love an Adam Sandler movie: it hasn't anything to do with award shows.
So don't shoot down the girls' chances. It seems like anybody has a shot these days in the age where we see record sales as a sign of greatness and where it's okay to copy, sample, and recycle without adding anything new of your own.
The future of music is right here!.......2005-11-16
Who needs Pat Benatar and the overweight Wilson sisters when you have these lovely ladies? I see a bright future for them, and I love this single. It sounds like a Destiny's Child song but better. Oh, the ways I love this single. Get it now!
