Album Description
This holiday EP by Boston's best vocal band is the first recording to capture their new rock sound. The vocal "guitars" help drive the groove on original "Watching the Train." Stack provides lead, bass and drums on his power rock anthem "Santa Says Rock" - an amazing tune destined for greatness. Of course, he serves up a tasty drum solo on their driving arrangement of "Little Drummer Boy." The final two numbers are more mellow: a sentimental original by their musical friend Peter Calo, "It's Christmas," and gorgeously harmonic, beautifully sung, surprisingly rhythmic "Silent Night." Everyone on your list needs this one!

The Bostonian kings of harmony do the holidays. I'm not so much a fan of IT'S CHRISTMAS (a touch campy) or SANTA SAYS ROCK (sorry, Stack...I still love ya), but WATCHING THE TRACKS is very catchy, and totally captures that yearny-sweetheart-at-Christmas thing. Oren's take on LITTLE DRUMMER BOY just rocks out with Stack's VP solo and arrangement, and SILENT NIGHT is a quasi-meditative hymn-goes-rock gem. Dan's solo soars, and it cleanses the palate nicely to get you ready for the next XMas album in your cd changer (I suggest mPact's THE CAROL COMMISSION).

I bought this abbreviated offering with great expectations. After all, I loved "So There" and thought it was an extraordinary new departure for Paul Pampinella following the dissolution of the phenomenal Vox One. Wrong! If you are no more than about 17 you will like the "boom-boom", the echo chambers and the reverberation units, lyrics that are pinched, squealed and not sung, harmonies that are pedestrian and slurred. Five O'clock Shadow can do much better and already has. Please continue the soft rock in the style and quality of "So There". "Misfits" is a real must miss!

five o' clock shadow's latest CD, Misfit Toys, is a must-have this holiday season (well, any season really!). With only 5 songs, this CD leaves you yearning for more. Excellent job! We're looking forward to the next one!

          High I was never really interested in any A Capella music until Five O'Clock shadow came to my school and sang for a live concert. I was amazed at their ability to make music just by themselves.
