What A Great Voice.......2006-11-15

Filling in my 60's collection, I came across this very talented artist. To me, the best songs are "I Say A Little Prayer", "Do You Know The Way To San Jose", "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", "Alfie, and "...Valley of The Dolls". All still very listenable. A good buy.

Holds up Remarkably.......2005-04-25

I'm shocked how much I like this CD. When these songs were popular and I was much younger I was no fan of the pop music of Burt Bacharach, and I dismissed Dionne Warwick as just commercial and forgettable.

A few weeks ago I heard a singer on American Idol (yeah please don't hold it against me that I find that show entertaining) do "Anyone who had a Heart" and I did not remember the song but thought it was gorgeous so I bought this album. Wow! Dionne Warwick has a fabulous voice and could really sing. Many of these songs belong in the catalog of great american standards. The arrangements, while clearly of their time, still sound interesting and engaging. If you are looking for rock or soul in the classic sense you won't find it here. If you like pop standards, and perhaps even jazz vocals, you'll probably be surprised to be reminded what a great vocalist Dionne Warwick was in her prime and how many gems were written by Burt Bacharach.

absolutely great timeless misic.......2005-01-30

Dionne Warwick possesses the great natural raw talent with the instincts neccessary to take on Bacarach-David's complicated works, and the result is amazing music. She glides from one octave to another, from hard hitting and edgy, to vunerable and soft, with security and ease. These songs have stood for decades and still captures the listener with its melodies, and the voice, and transports you like a spell binding story teller does. Definitely 2 thumbs up on this one.

Not too shabby.......2004-03-08

My only complaint are two very dated songs that don't go with the flow of the rest of the cd, and they are Then Came You with a very dated sounding doo wop group, and Valley of The Dolls, also they should have included a hit sha had in the late 60's "Odds & Ends", my personal favorite Dionne Warwick song. This is a ok "best of colelction", but it could have been so much better considering that there is room for about 26 songs on thsi cd and they gave us a mere 16, which is why you should only buy this if found at a very budget price.

I am and have always been a fan of Dionne Warwick, ever since I was 5 or 6 years old! That's right! I'm trying to find the original release dates for some of her classics: Walk On By, Message to Michael, You'll Never Get to Heaven, Alfie, Trains, Boats and Planes, I Say a Little Prayer, and Anyone Who Had a Heart. If anyone can provide the dates for these songs, I would be very appreciative. I've already searched but don't find what I'm looking for. Thanks!

I bought this thinking (who wouldn't have?)that these were the original
recordings. NOT! These are remakes of the original classics. Sure it's
Dionne singing but these new versions are in NO WAY as good as the originals. I feel the title is deceptive. It SHOULD be noted on the cover that these are NOT the classics we've all come to know and love over the years. If you are into the old Dionne Warwick classics then this
is NOT the CD for you - stay away! You'll be as disappointed as I was.
Here is a definite example of where "if it ain't broke don't fix it" should have been adhered to.

I bought this in the bargain bin because I love Dionnes voice and wanted to hear some of her best songs. Then I saw that it was a live cd. Was dissapointed but put it on. It has good production qualities for a bargain record. For a live cd, it isn't that bad. However, there isn't any information about the concerts recorded or the date recorded. a kind of a question mark cd. but if you can get it for five or six bucks get it.

FINALLY! DIONNE'S ARISTA SINGLES ON A SINGLE CD!.......2002-09-01

This Japanese release, "Best 19" by Dionne Warwick, spans the years 1979-1987 when she was signed with Arista Records. Included here are her biggest Arista hits--"I'll Never Love This Way Again," "Deja Vu," "Heartbreaker," "That's What Friends Are For" and "Love Power" (with Jeffrey Osborne)--and also most of her additional singles released by the label. That's what I love most about this collection: it's pretty comprehensive! Tracks such as "After You," "No Night So Long," "Easy Love," "Friends In Love" (with Johnny Mathis), "Take The Short Way Home," "How Many Times Can We Say Goodbye"(with Luther Vandross), "Whisper In The Dark" and "Reservations For Two" were also hits for Dionne, receiving substantial airplay on pop and adult contemporary radio stations in the early to mid '80s. The only omissions that keep this set from being a complete single-to-single collection from this period are "For You," "Got A Date," "Finder Of Lost Loves" (with Glenn Jones) and "Run To Me" (with Barry Manilow). However, these are lesser-known releases and you might not miss them anyway.

If you love Dionne Warwick, and you've been trying to find the hits from the second half of her long career, get this import CD "Best 19." (This compilation of hits FAR SURPASSES the ridiculous U.S. release "Greatest Hits 1979-1990" which is padded with several non-singles and, therefore non-hits.)

This IMPORT CD focuses on Dionne's Hits from the 70's & onwards. This album contains nothing new, but the songs are wonderfully selected.
It's always a pleasure to listen to Dionne's music, she has worked with some of the greatest songwriters and talented musicians in the industry for years . . .
Recommended.
