One of my favorite albums ever !!! I lost my first one and reordered. Love every song in it and it calms me and puts me in a spirit of worship and praise. Always leaves me with deep peace and a spirit filled with joy.

This CD by Steve Green is excellent. I believe he has one of the best voices in Christian music. It is very inspirational and his whole message is loving the Lord. You can't go wrong purchasing this CD.

After ten years of ministry and nine contemporary CD releases, Sparrow released Steve Green's 'greatest hits' or most popular songs, if you will. The 'favorites' of Steve Green fans are here along with three new releases sure to excite fans who have never heard Steve sing them live in concert.

"People Need The Lord" is a recognizable song from the early 1980s that closed out his first album. It is weak as an opening song, but certainly one of his best-known songs. Green proceeds with "God And God Alone," the title of his most reverent CD. Other popular songs include "Broken And Spilled Out," "He Holds The Keys," and "Calvary's Love."

The new songs, however, are the highlight of the recording. Green gives a passable performance of Keith Green's (no relation) "Grace By Which I Stand" that is updated for contemporary style. It also contains a popular concert song, "A Mighty Fortress," that can be found on the 1986 cantata-style CD of the same name. Green performs a 'Cross Medley' that is a combination of "Hallelujah! What A Savior," "When I Survey," and "Amazing Love."

The CD ends with the apex of the 1993 CCM performed "Young Messiah," a contemporary version of Handel's "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth." The CD ends much like a Green concert and you leave the recording feeling blessed.

This is must have if you want a 'best of' that doesn't require a lot of dollars like buying all the old recordings does.

People Need the Lord is a collection of 16 of the best songs in Steve Green's first 10 years of ministry.

The songs are mainly oriented towards burdening Christians for people who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, other songs encourage the listener to reflect on the awesomeness of God.

Among my personal favorites are: People Need the Lord, God and God Alone, Broken and Spilled Out, He Holds the Keys, A Mighty Fortress, and I Know That My Redeemer Liveth. However, the other songs are fine also.

Highly recommended, I encourage readers to buy and enjoy for God's glory!

A collection of 16 favorite songs celebrating ten years of Steve Green's music ministry. This two-time Dove Award male vocalist of the year is my all-time favorite Christian vocalist! He uses his wonderful God-given voice to glorify God through music. This album has a good selection of songs overall, especially for those who enjoy contemporary Christian music as well as hymns. I especially like this CD for it has a nice blend of contemporary music and the old-time classic favorites such as "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" (written by Martin Luther) and "I Know that My Redeemer Liveth" (by G. F. Handel).

Not to harp on anyone here, but it's obvious that none of you grew up in a church or environment that had a good choir. I know, a Hymn is a genre of music, but a recording of a hymn isn't one if it doesn't contain HARMONY. If they're a "choir," then why don't the tenors sing a different note than the sopranos, altos, and basses? The organist is quite good, I'll admit, but you're wasting your time if you're looking for a good recording of these beautiful songs that were COMPOSED with harmony, not unison. If they want to sing in unison like this, they need to be stripped of their "choir" status and simply be called a "group."

Most everything on this CD is very well done. The recording environment might have been less than perfect, but that shouldn't dimish one's enjoyment very much. Most of the arrangements are very traditional, with the notable exception of Amazing Grace, which though it isn't terrible, it isn't very good either. Some songs had verses removed, which is understandable, though it was poorly done in Eternal Father, Strong to Save -- they did verse 1 ("Eternal Father"), then they skipped(!!!) verse 2 ("O Christ, the Lord") and went on to the final verses ("Holy Spirit" and "O Trinity") -- which is skipping Someone important! However, outside of that, it was excellent.

If you like sacred music, or hymns, then you'll thoroughly enjoy this CD. If you're a Christian, you should enjoy this as well, no matter your taste in music (and you might just learn to like hymns as well!). It is a well-chosen set of some of the most magnificent, God-honoring music of all time, done is a mostly very traditional manner, and it was done well.

3 out of 5 stars Flawed but enjoyable.......2005-04-15

The huge size and reverberating acoustics of Washington National Cathedral make it difficult to hear any kind of live choral performance clearly, even if you're sitting in the front rows in the nave. The Cathedral Choral Society is handicapped by having to record in this acoustically mushy space, and it shows in this CD, often creating an uneven balance between the organ and the chorus as noted by other reviewers. The repertoire is well-chosen, but the quality of the arrangements is uneven. Too often, the chorus seems to be singing in unison right out of the Hymnal, like any parish church choir at an ordinary Sunday service. Certain pieces do suggest the heights which the Society is capable of attaining. But the group never achieves the splendor that the Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys displays every Sunday morning. Just when the Society seems to be getting there, the conductor pulls them back. And the shrill folk arrangement of "Amazing Grace" will have you covering your ears as the sopranos shriek clumsily, confusing volume with fervor.

I purchased this CD just based on the titles and am very glad I did. There are only two downsides to the album. First is the fact that there isn't a companion CD with 26 more hymns! Second is picky, but I do agree with another rater that the organ could have been a little louder related to the singing. Hope you enjoy listening!

Album Description

Born in Seoul, Korea, pianist Sue Kyung Song immigrated to the United States with her family at the age of fourteen. While attending school in Atlanta, she won statewide competitions, as well as the Kingsville International Music Competition in Texas. She earned her Bachelor of Music in piano from the Oberlin Conservatory and went on to receive her Superieur Concertist in performance at the Centre Conservatoire de Paris under the prestigious Harriet Wooley Scholarship from the Fulbright Association. From there, she went to the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary, where she did her post-graduate studies.

Miss Song has performed solo in major concert halls in Paris, Seoul and New York, including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. She has also given solo concerts in Italy, Hungary and Australia, as well as throughout the United States.

Beautiful, flowing selections from the likes of Chopin, Brahms, Schumann, Bach and Beethoven interspersed with some delightful surprises: a 17th century French carol, an awe-inspiring arrangement of an old hymn, a contemporary inspirational song and an original piece by the artist. A soul-settling, peace-giving, spirit-lifting album of fine piano playing. A not-to-be-missed collection. Listen to it when you want to relax and be uplifted at the same time!

    The world-renowned Westminster Choir and Joseph Flummerfelt along with organists Joan Lippincott and Ronald Arnatt, give absolutely stirring reditions of some of Westminster's best-loved hymns and anthems. I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to this recording over and over again. It serves as a beautiful, musical tribute to the legacy of fine church music at Westminster Choir College.

    I bought this CD for one major reason. It has the song "My Shepherd Will Supply My Need" on it. The reason that song is so powerful to me is that I heard the Children's Choir at the National Cathedral sing it on TV on September 14th, 2001 - the day of the national day of prayer and mourning for 9/11. I wanted to find a version of the song on CD and this seemed to be the only one I could find. If you like choral music though the rest of the CD is great.
