The most consistently enticing disc in the Rock Instrumental Classics series, this is both a great party and driving record and a window on the rhythms that powered soul music in the '60s (and early '70s, in two cases). In addition to some obvious choices (the four Booker T. & the MG's tracks, the Mar-Keys' "Last Night"), it also offers some left-field picks, such as the varied approaches to Latin music offered by Ray Barretto, Mongo Santamaria, and El Chicano. The stock of virtuoso performances here is all but endless: the bass-and-drums breakdown on Cliff Nobles and Co.'s "The Horse," the glinting guitar solo on the Bar-Kays' "Soul Finger," Hugh Masekela's questing trumpet on "Grazing in the Grass." --Rickey Wright

This cd has all my favorite instrumentals from the 60's. The sound quality is good. There are also some songs I don't remember, but all the tracks are good to listen to. I will check out other cd's in this collection and would buy others. They were not remakes but original artists.

I love this cd. The songs in it such as "The Horse" by Cliff Nobles, are a nice addition to the cds I already have. Instrumentals are a nice get away from the regular kind of music. Instrumentals bring music happiness to people like me. They go along perfectly with the vocals. God bless you Amazon for having this cd in stock and thank you. You are my absolute favorite of all department stores when it comes to shopping. Thank you.

I found this product satisfactory. It came in a timley fashion.

There was no problem with the packaging. The music is great.

Each song was certainly a classic. I would purchase more

volumes.

I am extremely happy with this CD. I recognized only half of the 18 tracks by their titles before ordering, but the ones I did recognize were good enough to sell me on the CD.

It turned out when I first played this CD that all of the songs that I had failed to recognize by title were very familiar tunes and very good ones. This was a very pleasant surprise.

This is a great CD! I remind everyone that I intend to save the "five star" rating for CDs that just absolutely blow me out of the water, so the four star that I gave this CD means that I really, really like it and heartily recommend it. I have just started buying and reviewing classic rock CDs, so I have not as yet given a five star rating to any CDs.

Go ahead and order this one!

This is a great collection of soul instrumentals. Every single track here made the Pop Top 40. There is not a single bad track here. The CD begins and ends with Booker T. & The M.G's, and rightly so, since they were the most dominant soul instrumental group of all time. In between, you get one great instrumental after another. Highly recommended.

This is a great C.D. with many of our favorites. Katrina took all of my old 33 1/3 albumns so we're slowly replacing with the C.D. as we can find them. As usual, Amazon is the place for most everything one could want or need. The price is, of course, very reasonable also. If you love those old time Gospel greats, you will, for sure, love these.

    THIS CD IS MARVELOUS!!! TO HAVE 2 POWERFUL VOICES(JONATHAN PIERCE, GUY PENROD) IN THE SAME GROUP SAYS WONDERFUL THINGS ABOUT BILL GAITHER. THIS MAN IS AMAZING, TO BE ABLE TO FIND SUCH TALENTS. I LOVE ALL THE SONGS. JONATHAN PIERCE ON HIS SOLO'S KNOWS WHEN TO BE VERY POWERFUL AND WHEN TO SILENT HIS BEAUTIFUL VOICE TO BLEND WITH THE OTHER VOICES. WHEW, WHAT AN AMAZING TALENT!!!     This continues the recording of classics with the "Gaither Touch" that the first volume started. The best cuts are: Count On Me ( A powerful song). Bill's solo starts the song off more mellow and personal and then Guy Penrod's solo cranks it up with a soulful side that he hadn't shown on previous performances. He puts as much power, emotion, and kick in it as Michael Bolton could do, (but not to the point of excess.) The Old Rugged Cross Made The Difference is also a powerful cut with Penrod once again giving it all he has, and is a great arrangement. Farther Along is a good, new arrangement of the classic hymn, giving Jonathan Pierce a shot at the high and powerful type of solo. Sweeter As The Days Go By is a nice arrangement of the song that kicks, and gives Penrod a chance to adlib on a descant toward the end. They also update Search Me Lord with a modern arrangement. This, as I recall, was the first CD of their's that started the move toward integrating a country style into their material on several songs, but there is still the Inspirational, and Black Gospel material on here that they've previously been known for, as well.

    Perhaps one of the best of the Gaither Vocal Band recordings. If you appreciate the Gaither Vocal Band you will love this CD. I paid more for the recording in a retail store and had to wait two (2) weeks. The Amazon price represents a substantial savings.

          With the Bishops being a Father and Sons Group it makes it a difference being Family. The Song "Lazarus, Come Forth" is a very empowering song with great harmony. I recommend this CD to anyone who loves trio music

          The late '80s were a golden age for CD reissues, especially of tracks from the '50s and '60s, since the new digital format was just gaining popularity, there was a retro-1960s revival going on, and record companies realized they had whole new revenue stream from people buying (or re-buying) back-catalog material for their new players. The compilations issued then were full of quality stuff, unlike later bottom-of-the-barrel reissues.

          "20 Party Classics" is a prime example. There are no fillers, no re-recordings, no easy-listening chart toppers that don't belong on a rock-n-roll disc. Can you go wrong with a single CD that includes the Rascals, Little Richard, the Coasters, Rufus Thomas, Sam and Dave, Booker T and the MGs, Aretha Franklin, Dion and the Belmonts, Jerry Lee Lewis, Wilson Pickett, the Monkees, _and_ Sonny and Cher? Plus a bunch of classic one-hit wonders like "Little Bit of Soul," "Little Girl," "Stay," and "Leader of the Pack" (vroom vroom)?

          Don't expect audiophile quality from these tracks: they're not all expertly remastered, but then again, a lot of them were meant for AM radio anyway. Even if you, like me, were born after these songs hit the charts, you can chuck it in the CD player at your party with pleasure.
