Telarc was among the first international labels to embrace digital technology. Their catalog is rich with jazz and classical titles that celebrate the genre's ongoing traditions. To commemorate their 25th anniversary they've assembled sets that explore their large catalogs. The title of this two-CD set couldn't be more forthcoming. Contained herein are 25 selections which run the gamut from the smooth vocals of Joe Williams, Mel Tormé, and Bobby Short to the friendly angularities of McCoy Tyner's piano explorations. They've released recordings by many of the pillars of jazz's bebop and post-bop eras, including Gerry Mulligan, Ray Brown, Ahmad Jamal, Jim Hall, Slide Hampton, Jimmy McGriff, and George Shearing--all of whom are represented here. From the violin of Stepháne Grappelli to the trombone of Steve Turre, Telarc has been documenting the voices of jazz with warmth and clarity.
