4 out of 5 stars The Girl Next Door Soundtrack is awesome but with missing songs.......2007-04-08

I have the complete soundtrack, and it's great. Two days ago i saw the movie again, and is so awesome and entertained. Emile Hirsch and Elisha Cuthbert are a pretty couple.

Almost a 5 stars soundtrack, but there are missing songs that would fit so well into the cd.

5 out of 5 stars Girl Next Door Soundtrack Purchase.......2007-03-08

Recieved item quickly while deployed overseas. Plastic Case was damaged, but the cd was in excellent condition.

4 out of 5 stars Song?.......2006-12-11

I'm looking for a song that's in the movie but not on the soundtrack, it's right after the song of Paul Haslinger called `' Bank Meltdown'' when Matthew says to Danielle `'I'm in so much trouble''?? I'm quite like that song so please help me!!!

1 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack, [...] soundtrack.......2006-05-01

This movie has brilliant music in it. The Verve, Queen, David Gray etc, however, seeing as it's a teen movie they've put all the crap songs on the soundtrack. So don't buy it. Instead go get the individual songs... just so you'll be able to live with yourself...

best song in this movie definitely is "This Year's Love"

1 out of 5 stars Songs missing.......2006-01-11

The best song in the movie was not even on the soundtrack! It was David Grey's: This years love. Advertisement for the soundtrack said every single song from the film was definetly on there...yeah right!

5 out of 5 stars A question about Marti.......2007-04-03

Now, do not get me wrong. The album is definitely very good and deserves 5 stars, but my review isn't really about the CD. I have a question about Marti that no other forum I could post it on, frankly because Saving Jane doesn't have one. Ever since I have purchased this CD, this one tiny little question has left me and my friends skeptical on something...

Is she a man? Wait, let me correct this. Was she a man? I'm not trying to be rude or anything, because I love her music and in the Girl Next Door video, she did look pretty in the limo scene. Other then that, she looks manly. Not just looks, but she's built manly. But, besides those, is she a man? Well, now a woman, but was she?!?! It's driving me crazy! I cannot look at my booklet until I am sure of this question.

I'm not hating, because if she is or was, that's fine. My feelings for her will not change whatsoever. In fact, I won't care. I just need to know! Please, somebody answer with a POSITIVE answer, not just a thought. Know before speaking! Thank you!

.......a little Sheryl Crow, Dixie Chicks, Bif Naked, and a couple riffs that sound like the Beatles and Foo Fighters. Marti Dodson has a GREAT voice!

5 out of 5 stars All the information about this cd you need and don't need to know.......2006-09-03

I first heard saving Jane as a side act for a Bo Bice concert. Bo was great, But I'm not talking about him right now. I really liked them, and had bits and peices of their songs stuck in my head all day. The only song I had heard before was Girl next door, and they didn't sing that untill the end. I really liked this cd, and I will show the world how much free time I have and write about every little song.

Who's Crying Now is the first song on the cd, or at least on mine. Marti herself said that it's about when you have a boyfriend that doesn't call for a long time and then suddenly wants to get back together again like nothing happened. This song has great lyrics and shows a lot of emotion, as most of thier songs do, and is a surprisingly cheery and upbeat.

The nesxt song was Happy, which was Marti's opening song in the concert. This one's about having a boyfriend that's moved on and you haven't. The lyrics are kind of sad, but it's a really fun song that makes you want to turn up the music really loud and rock out and annoy all the neighbors.

Girl next door was, as I allready said, the last song in the concert and the only one I'd heard of before. It's also in the newest Now cd, but that usualy had really bad music in my opinon. But that's really good for the band, because they've really got talent and deserve fame.

Imperfection is one of my favorite songs. It's about how in the music industry (and in life in general) they want everyone to be so perfect and beautiful and sexy, and Marti just wants to be who she is and doesn't care what anyone else thinks. In the concert that really was true. she had realy pretty hair, but she wasn't trying to be more that she is. as the song says, "this is what you get. This is who I am." this also has some of the coolest lyrics, like, "Sometimes I trip and fall. But I nkow where i stand." and "In case your looking that's my heart there on my sleave." I love this song, because it describes a feeling everyone has felt before.

I don't remember if they did Reasons Why in the concert. This one is not my favorite, but it has a lot of emoton. It's kind of about how marti thought that she wasn't 16 anyomore and was too old to get big in the music industry, but then she realised, "Maybe it's not to late for me to fly. Maybe you underestimated me and now it's tiiiiiiiime." It's a really hopeful song and makes you think that if she could do it, anyone can.

Ordinary wasn't in the concert either, and it didn't stick out much for me. It's a slower song, which isn't exactly my thing. the title says it all, "if you would get to know me, Maybe you would love me, I'm so ordinary..."

Sleep on it is in the same cattagory as Ordinary.

Don't stop is one of my favorite songs, too. I think It's kind of abput stage fright, but I'm not sure. It's a really fun song, and makes you want to dance. It's a pretty good lesson for everything, "Don't stop now."

The pretender is the only song in the album that is not by someone in the band. It's pretty good, but not my favorite. I think it goes on for a bit to long, and i don;t understand much of it.

Mary is about someone who's trying to be someone she's not, so she trys to be someone else she's not, and the moral is be yourself. Very self explanitory. It's a good song, though a little less upbeat, and has a nice ring to it.

Come down to me is the song where the band gets to show off their pianist, which was much needed considering that he was just kind of sitting there shaking his head for some of the other songs. It's a really nice love song about when you realy like someone but you don't know if he likes you back. The song was kind of ruined at the concert, though, when some people got up because they thought they saw Bo coming from back stage.

autumn and Me is the last song on the Cd, and is about Marti and her best friend Autumn. I really like this song, too, and the lyrics are also realy funny, like, "I was named for a boy, she was named for the fall, and nothing much else really mattered at all." You Say, the thing at the end, was king of wierd, though.

I really liked this cD,and even though I'm only 12 and I can't type very well, I would recoment this cd to anyone that liked good music. I hope this was helpful.

5 out of 5 stars I love this cd!.......2006-09-01

I absolutley love this cd! I first heard of this band when they played at a concert I went to. I liked a couple of their songs so i bought the cd. i love it! the vocals are all good, as well as the lyrics. Most of the songs are pretty upbeat, exept for sleep on it, ordinary, and Mary, but these are all good songs anyway. If you liked Girl next door, you will love this cd!

4 out of 5 stars I like this CD!.......2007-01-31

This was one of my first CD's when I was like 10. I remember always playing it. I think when I was that young I didn't realize how country she was. Now I listen to it and wow, it really is country!

I remember I LOVED "State of Mind", and "Eleven Roses".

5 out of 5 stars I LOVE this album so much that I have bought it twice!!!!.......2005-06-03

I never knew that Crystal Bernard was a singer until about 1999 when I discovered this CD the first time. I was so happy that I bought it. I love country music and I enjoy good love songs so it was perfect for me. I did lose the CD and was VERY happy when I came across it again in a local music store. Matter of fact, I am playing "This Purple Heart" as the prelude for my wedding this Sat. I hope you will all give it a chance!

4 out of 5 stars A good country album.......2004-03-09

I bought this album about 8 years ago on a whim, not even hearing one song before I bought it. Fortunately, I didn't regret it, although only half the album is memorable while the other half is forgettable.

It is 8 years later, and I can still remember how these songs sound like (they all happen to be in the first half):

-"Could Have Been Mine"
-"You're Gonna Miss a Whole Lotta Love"
-"Eleven Roses"
-"Have We Forgotten What Love Is"
-"This Purple Heart"
-"State of Mind"
-"Too Far This Time"

The best songs are "Eleven Roses," Have We Forgetten What Love Is," and "This Purple Heart." I especially like the lyrics to "Eleven Roses" and "Purple Heart."

As for the second half, I don't remember how any of them sound like. In other words, they are forgettable:

-"Miracle"
-"When You Took Your Love Away"
-"Till I Get over You"
-"Call It Love"
-"If You Have Love"

Let's not even talk about the "Intro," which is utterly pointless and a waste of a track.

Crystal has a sweet Sherrie Austin voice with an occasionally overdone vibrato and the album has a country sound, which works for her. This is a good album, not a great one, but good.

2 out of 5 stars Not bad, but certainly not great.......2003-11-26

I would have rather given this CD 2.5 stars instead of 2, since I always consider 2 stars a poor rating.

I bought this CD many years ago as a fan of "Wings" and because I liked Crystal Bernard on the show.

She has a pretty good voice, but the song selection isb terrible. With the exception of "State of Mind," "Have We Forgotten..." and maybe 1 other song, the rest are fairly boring.

I hd tow really big pet peeves on this album. The first was the intro, which is an old recording of Bernard singing some cutesy song when she was 4 years old or so. I guess it's supposed to be one of those things that make you go "ahhh, how clever, she was singing even when she was a baby and now she's making a career out of it!" I don't care that she sang a few times as a kid. I bought the CD to be entertained, not to hear some screeching kid sing "Oh My Darling" on a scratchy 30 year old recording. This same thing was done on Martina McBride's "Independence Day" CD and it is annoying. I buy a CD to be entertained. I want the best most playable song as the first track, not this garbage taking up a vital spot on the CD that I'm going to have to skip over every time I insert the CD. Intros should be saved for rap music.

My next annoyance, half the songs have the word "love" in them! Why did the songwriters feel the need to use this word in the chorus of every song?!

Overall, I would stay away from this CD, because while it's got a couple of playable tracks, but the novelty factor of Crystal Bernard singing country music isn't worth the $10 (listen up Mary McCormick, aka Marsha Brady fans).

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2002-01-17

I LOVED the album. I like country and soft rock and she fits the bill on both. It is a wonderful combination. I heard her sing originally on "Happy Days" and "It's a Living" so I was not surprised when she came out with an album (granted years later) she has a beautiful voice. I have since purchased her newest album "Don't touch me there" and it is equally as good!!

5 out of 5 stars Annette Hanshaw: An Underrated Talent!.......2005-10-30

Annette Hanshaw was an important artist of the 20s and 30s. She is as much of that era as Ruth Etting, Helen Kane, and The Boswell Sisters. Annette had an extremely plaintive voice but she was certainly not a sugary sweet singer. On this CD are a few songs in which she does an uncanny Helen Kane impersonation.
I am fond of Helen Kane, but let Helen be Helen and let Annette sing like herself. There are many gems on this CD not available on other compilations such as "It All Depends on You", "My Blackbirds are Bluebirds Now", "I Can't Give You Anything But Love". There is a blues feeling with "Big City Blues" and "My Sin". Annette's rendition of "Button Up Your Overcoat" is on an equal par with Ruth Etting's version which is better known. This is a CD well worth having and it includes many songs from early talkies of 1929. I am so glad to have discovered this CD which has excellent sound quality. My favourite, if I had to choose one, would be "Say It Isn't So" which is poignant and heartfelt. Annette Hanshaw's music is a delight and I am grateful for the legacy that she left behind in a career that seems to have been too brief.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent overview of 20's jazz singer.......2000-01-18

One of the few listenable singers from the 20's, has a highly appealing and swinging style which puts her in the same category as Ethel Eaters in the 20's. Some excellent jazz singing with excellent jazz musicians bacing her(The Dorsy Brothere, Manny Klein, Joe Venuti, Bunny Berrigan, exe...)

I found out about saving jane when they weren't known well from frickin'A. and fell in love with them. The songs are catchy and i can relate to many of them. "ordinary" and "come down to me" would have to be my favorite tracks. I love how down to earth marti is and how she never fails to crack me up when I see/talk to her.

4 out of 5 stars Girl Next Door by Saving Jane.......2006-07-09

I heard "Girl Next Door" on Top 40 Radio and fell in love with it instantly. There was something so honest, so raw about the song that made me love it and shortly after I heard "Happy" on the radio as well and just had to pick up the album. And this did little to dissapoint.

I guess what's so funny is that this is a girly pop rock album, and because she's an alto singer I read some say she's not a good singer. The lead singer is actually great, I love her low powerful voice. And the cool thing is is that her voice has a very country feeling to it, and yet she pulls off the rocker chick well.

Lyrically the songs are exceptional. Lyrics are raw, meangingful, and honest. I also like how the lyrics are deep, but not overly metaphoric. Take "Happy" for examply, "I'm so happy for you I could cry/ I'm so elated cross my heart and hope to die." And it's those kind of lyrics that make that song, plus the title track and "Autumn & Me" near flawless. As a matter of fact, just about every song on here is good. I personally didn't enjoy "Reasons Why" but that only brought it down a star.

Saving Jane is a great band and I think it would be good for everyone to listen to. They have the perfect sound to make for a good summer cd.

    5 out of 5 stars Saving Jane.......2006-06-21

Awesome cd. Good for people that like or don't like pop music. She is truely gifted and has a "different" type of voice

3 out of 5 stars good lyrics, sometimes mediocre music.......2006-05-21

Marti Dodson, lead singer of Saving Jane, has a voice kind of like Sheryl Crow's, and on "Sleep on It" she sounds a lot like a rougher, tougher Jewel. The first two songs on the album are pretty good; Marti's deep throaty voice sounds rather untrained but is still pleasing, and it lends a genuine feel to the album. Track 3, "Girl Next Door," is a bouncy anthemic track that tons of girls can relate to; the background music to the track is fairly standard and reminds me of several other songs, but it's catchy. I skip over track 4 because it bores me. Track 5, "Reasons Why," is kind of inspirational, which I like: "Maybe it's not too late for me to fly/Maybe you underestimated me..." That line gets stuck in my head a lot. I also skip over tracks 6 and 7, mainly because 6 doesn't make sense to me and 7 is a little suggestive. Track 8, "Don't Stop," seems to be about writing songs and performing for a crowd, and it's possibly my favorite song on the album. "Mary" and "Come Down to Me" are quite good, the former for the lyrics about a rebellious girl and the latter for the pretty piano music and gentle delivery. "Autumn & Me" is another favorite, about best friends, and it can make the sentimental tear up a little. I never bother with the bonus track; the few times I listened to it, it went in one ear and out the other--nothing memorable about it. The main complaint I have about the album is that I think the beats could be stronger: some of the songs would benefit from a heavier bass line. They could have a bouncing, rocking "Since U Been Gone" (Kelly Clarkson) feel to them if they did have that. Without it, it can feel a little too mellow.

5 out of 5 stars Loving this CD.......2006-05-14

I laughed at the lyrics to Girl Next Door and loved the singing, so bought the CD - great songs, great sound. Not sure where Saving Jane came from, but I'm looking forward to hearing more from them!

    4 out of 5 stars ..........2006-12-31

When this album first came out, I really didn't give it a chance. The other day, I finally gave it a proper listen and I was pleasantly surprised. It is much better than her debut. It's very solid and it's quite a shame that it didn't get promotion. (But Elektra was never too good at that kind of stuff. No wonder why it fell apart.) The production is very nice and the vocals are strong. Meet The Girl Next Door is laid-back and you can listen to it all the way through. I highly recommend it... but maybe try and find it for a little less $ than Amazon asks for.

    5 out of 5 stars Really Hot!.......2005-12-04

I remember when this album 1st came out, I played it nonstop. She's another artist that doesn't get the airplay and respect she deserves. Her songs can really be related to and on top of that, she can SING!!! There are too many artists out here with a record deal and cannot sing at all. This album gets a definite five stars from me.

    5 out of 5 stars Gifted.......2005-08-10

Lil' Mo is very underated. She writes, produces, she can rap and her voice is amaing. She deserves so much more respect in the game the she has gotten thus far. She can sing circles around these so called artist that are out.

    5 out of 5 stars Meet Lil'Mo Next Door.......2005-05-18

I remember this album when I was in the 10th grade. I loved every song on the album. This is more than a title of her new album. It's the metaphor for the brazzy singer's optimistic outlook on life. This album puts her instincts to the test. This album should have been promoted more. Remember, this was 2003.

4 out of 5 stars The Girl Is Bad! .......2005-01-12

Lil' Mo throws down on this album. Listening to this album you can tell that Lil' Mo put a lot into this album. It succeeds her debut in a number of ways. Her voice seems to be stronger and better than ever. The material is fresher, slicker, and hard-hitting. Mo also happens to be a very gifted songwriter. My favorite songs are Doing Me Wrong and Shoulda Known. I would strongly recommend this album to anyone.

4 out of 5 stars A very underrated Evelyn King "lost" classic.......2005-11-24

This is one of my favorite Evelyn King CDs, but for some reason, it flopped upon release in the early 90s and is hard to find now - Evelyn's rich vocals never sounded better, and songs featured several cuts produced/written by Chicago house legends TEN CITY ("Loverman" and "Day to Day"), as Evelyn ventured into club territory here. This CD also include Evelyn's own take on BODY's "Footsteps in the Dark" - all in all, a nice addition to your Evelyn King collection. Now I just wish her other "lost" albums were finally made available on CD, like "ACTION" and "SO ROMANTIC" from the mid-80s. Too bad. Evelyn King has one of the richest, strongest voices in all of R&B - where is she now?!

    4 out of 5 stars A nostalgic delight.......2006-10-16

OK,so she didn't have a great voice. But Annette Funicello worked hard at her music, and for anyone like me who grew up in that era, this two-CD
collection is a nostalgic treat. It may not be art,but listening to this is
sure good fun.The tunes are still enjoyable, and Annette sings them quite well. And the accompanying book is a nostalga buff's delight. All in all,
this is a wonderful trip down memory lane.

5 out of 5 stars She had a "Certain Something".......2006-02-23

If you are reading this review, you're either old enough to remember Annette Funicello or you are curious and/or fascinated with her and so, I make no apologies for having had a life-long crush on this sweet little lady. She was a triple threat! A Movie Star, TV Star and recording artist; one of the few female "Teenage Idols". Okay, her movies were not memorable, neither were the TV shows. No one ever let her actually DO anything in her movies. It's ANNETTE HERSELF that we remember fondly. This 2 disc CD Box containing an exquisite full-color die-cut booklet is a tribute to her recording career, one which started almost by accident. When called upon to sing on an episode of the Mickey Mouse Club, the usually obedient Annette demurred at first, knowing she had a small (but sweet) voice. It took the sharp ear and persuasive talents of the Multi-talented Tutti Camarata to convince Annette to try recording the song ("How will I know my love") herself. Hence the title of this review. How right Tutti was! As I listen to these recordings today, I realize that Annette, who was never regarded as a Great Singer, had "a certain something" that made her voice unique. That is the mark of a great singer. It must have been frightening for Annette to begin her recording career at age 15 in a day and age when people actually had to be able to SING to land a recording contract. Her contemporaries included Connie Francis, Patti Page, LaVern Baker, Patsy Cline, Brenda Lee and even Dinah Washington and Sarah Vaughan. I am not for one second comparing Annette's vocal talents to any of the above mentioned ladies but she certainly gave every session her best shot, aided and abetted by Tutti. She was an instant success, recording a series of Teen Laments, Bubble Gum Rock and Novelties. Back in the early sixties, I used to wonder why Annette was usually stuck with some Kiddie-Bop song by The Sherman Brothers when there were writers like Carole King and Ellie Greenwich around. Now, I realize why Annette's songs were always so naive. The Studio was maintaining her well-deserved image as a "Good Girl" and, in fairness to them, I must say that they were right after all. There is a timelessness and tailor-made quality about many of these songs and performances that most of Annette's contemporary competitors did not possess. Annette's hits are almost all here: "Tall Paul","Jo-Jo the Dog-Faced Boy","Lonely Guitar","Wild Willie","First Name Initial","My Heart Became of Age","Train of Love","Tell Me,who's the Girl","Pineapple Princess" and "Dream Boy" (The last two in true Stereo, a revelaton indeed). Looking at the track listings, I realize that Disney has included at least one song from every Disney Project that Annette was ever involved with. Many of these tracks are rare and many are in Stereo for the first time. Personally, I would have eschewed some of the filler from her early albums in favor of some of the tracks from her excellent Beach Party albums like "Promise Me Anything","California Sun","Treat Him Nicely","Muscle Beach Party" or "How About That". Or perhaps a few of her non-charting singles that deserved better like Carole King's "Dreamin' About You" or "Indian Giver". The most glaring omissions of all are the absence of the original 1958 version of "How Will I Know My Love?" in favor of the 1965 acoustic remake. The remake is lovely, but Disney could have included both versions. Also, the version of Annette's Top Ten hit "O Dio Mio" included here is the Italian version which Disney erroneously claims to be previously unreleased. This is from the "Italianette" LP. The Hit single version certainly should have been included here. And then there is "Strummin' Song", a B-side which is heard here as a simple demo with a Banjo or Uke. Annette doesn't quite make it through the silly song. She breaks up into laughter before she can finish, forcing Tutti to finish singing it for her. It's a charming moment. It's too bad Disney didn't include the finished product for comparison's sake. You can hear the released track with full background and chorus (The Vonnair Sisters) on Disney's OOP CD Set A Legacy in Song. The differences between the two underscore Tutti Camarata's contributions to This and other Disney recordings of the Era. Still, I'm giving this Five Stars. Why? Because I WANT to.If you are a fan of Annette, or The Girl Group Sound of the Late 50's - Early 60's, grab one of these while you still can! And, while they're still affordable.
I recently saw Jessica Simpson "performing?" Nancy Sinatra's signature song "These Boots are made for Walkin'" on Television. It was embarrassing to behold. Ms. Simpson, nearly nude, bumped, grinded, grabbed her private areas, moaned, groaned and wiggled her way through a not-very-hard-to-sing song. She made Nancy Sinatra sound like Ella Fitzgerald. I long for the days when the girls we admired were girls we wanted to marry. Five Stars and three cheers for Annette.

    3 out of 5 stars Annette's personality shines though.......2006-02-14

Anyone who sat transfixed watching Annette on the Mickey Mouse Club and the various spin-off movies like The Shaggy Dog, will have fond memories of this lovely girl who became a beautiful woman, and I'd strongly recommend her (auto)biography, A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes, which glosses over rather a lot, but reveals a warm, caring woman stricken so cruelly with MS.

But what about the music? I bought Tall Paul and First Name Initial as singles and they still sound good and stand up as representing the innocence of pop music at the time. There are one or two others that are catchy and fun - Pineapple Princess, Mister Piano Man - but I have to say that on the whole, hearing the songs on these two CDs is a painful experience. It helps to look at the nicely illustrated booklet when listening, but the bulk of these songs, with Annette in her Hawaiian (Luau Cha-Cha-Cha), Italian (Please, Please Signore), Dance (Rock-A-Polka) and Beach (Bikini Beach Party) periods, are dreadful. I don't blame her for a moment, though the writers had to accommodate her limited singing range, it's just that the songs sound so utterly bland - dull arrangements, routine back-up voices, embarrassing lyrics, tuneless "melodies". Songs like Don't Jump To Conclusions, Jo-Jo the Dog-Faced Boy and Rock-A-Cha should have been suffocated at birth. Despite all this, somehow, Annette's vivacious personality manages to win the day, but dipping in is recommended, rather than listening to these relentlessly anodyne numbers in one sitting. It's a shame that the best song she ever recorded, Carole King and Gerry Goffin's Dreamin' About You is not included here, and die-hard fans should seek out her take on The Beatles All My Loving for a further example of how poorly she was treated in a recording studio (as she was on screen, but that's another story).

The CDs are nicely packaged in pastel pinks and greens, but this is really one for those of us who were smitten at the time and want to relive some of the innocence of the late 50s and early 60s.
