The Power is There, but the Message Isn't.......2006-02-28
I have owned Amanda Marshall's first album for years and finally purchased Tuesday's Child. Well, it sounds somewhat similar to the first album, but the writing on this one is lifeless. It seems that she's trying to reach for what she had on her premiere, but she can't quite pull it off. Her vocals are as powerful as always with her gritty voice and catchy acoustic guitar.
I listen to her first album, but Tuesday's Child is just background music.
Ten on a Five Scale.......2005-07-18
This artist, & particularly this album, are the reasons I DON'T LISTEN TO THE RADIO anymore! This should have been the #1 album of 1999, & won the Grammy for Album of the Year, but no one in The States got to hear it!(Also the reason I pay no attention to the Grammys anymore)
This is one of the best albums EVER recorded - by ANYONE! Her voice is seductive yet powerful, with a growl like no one I've heard before. Her highlites are in all the right places, but her soulful delivery blows right past any air of formulaic pop to a hard-rock edge reminiscent of Sass Jordan or even an early Doro Pesch! Her poetry is intelligent & full of imagery, harkening back to the best of fellow-Canadian Joni Mitchell while rocking hard when the srory dictates. "The Best of Me" is as rockin' as anything you'll ever hear; "Too Little, Too Late" is one of those ballad-that-becomes-a-rocker masterpieces that every lame-oid on the radio wishes they could sing; "Give Up Giving In" should have been on every lite-rock station in America, & should have won a Grammy for Song of the Year! But the best song is the closer, "Out of Bounds", which is, in my opinion, THE BEST SONG IN THE HISTORY OF RECORDED MUSIC - BAR NONE!!!
On my personal list of Top 10 Albums of All Time, this is SECOND only to Airplane's "Crown of Creation". 'Nuff said!
Excellent follow up.......2005-01-15
Amanda Marshall's second album TUESDAYS CHILD is just as good as her first. Vocally she is on top again, her voice is very powerful and makes you take notice. This album didn't have as much success as her first, but it still spun off a few hit singles in Canada. Still no real big hits in the US, all I can say is they are truly missing out on a great talent! "I Believe In You" is a moving ballad that was also featured in Touched By an Angel. "Love Lift Me" was the second single, nice uptempo song. "If I Didn't Have You" is a killer ballad, really well sung and written, also a single. The other single was "Shades of Grey". There's some nice quiet reflective ballads here like "Too Little Too Late", "Never Said Goodbye", "Wishful Thinking", "Give Up Giving In", and some great uptempo songs like "Why Don't You Love Me", "Ride", "Best of me", etc. Overall a really consistently good album!
What a voice..........2002-05-25
Amanda Marshall is one of my favorite solo artists. As soon as this CD came out, I went out and bought it, which I never do. I usually wait until it's been out a while and can hear enough word of mouth or singles to decide if I want it. But Marshall is different. She has such an amazing voice, and her music is so passionate, heartfelt, and intense, and her first album was so terrific, that I knew this one would be as well. Even better, she writers or cowrites some of her songs. And the lyrics for all are amazing.
The scary thing is that this album is actually even better than the first. There's a wonderful range of songs about universal themes; love, loss, regret. The music is gorgeous, and there's a wide range, from uptempo to slow and soothing, so the listener never gets bored. Even better, Marshall knows how to mix it up in a way that doesn't make the album seem disjointed. Everything flows nicely. A couple numbers are a tad over the top (I'm thinkig specifically of If I Didn't Have You), but it somehow works.
I would love to be able to say what the best tracks are on this CD, but they're all so good that it's hard to pick. Certainly Believe In Me is a beautiful song. I also especially love Too Little Too Late, Best of Me, and Shades of Grey (which is absolutely haunting).
It's hard to classify Marshall's music. It's somewhere between pop/rock and Adult Contemporary. I see her as essentially a cross between a Sarah McLachlan or a Jann Arden (she's actually a little more up tempo than these two) and Melissa Etheridge with a few less guitars. It's music that is more for listening than dancing, overall.
This CD is one I think should be in any serious music fan's collection. I know it's one of my top 10 all time favorites.
The cd that has never left my stereo!!!!.......2002-05-13
When I got this in the mail I couldn't wait to put it in my stereo, and to be truthful it hasn't left since. I absolutely adore this album and if I had to spend eternity on a deserted island and could only bring a couple of albums, this would definitely be one. She has such a strong voice and there's not one song on the album that I don't like. I liked her first album, I love this album, I can't wait till her next one will be released in the US. For anyone who is not sure whether or not to pick this one up, just know that you'll be making a huge mistake by passing this one by!!!!

Abenaa's music is hard to classify but if I had to compare this disc to one in recent memory, it'd be Rhiann Benson's. The disc is really short - clocked in at less than an hour but each song is distinctly individual and will keep the listener interested. The tracks that stood out to me are:

The CD version must be better.......2005-06-22
I own this on cassette, but it has only 8 songs compared to 10 on CD. Not a bad sampler, but it is a good bargain.
He is easily the best in Contemporary music!!.......2001-05-12
SCC has been a personal favorite of mine for a long time. This album may not be the one a first time listener of SCC would like to listen to. But there is a lot of depth in his lyrics which is set against beautiful music. Tracks like "Tuesdays Child","Human Race","My Turn Now" are too good and the other slower tracks will truly encourage a soul which is broken. Tracks like "Hiding Place" and "His eyes" truly enriched my soul whenever I listen to it. I have given it a four because I have heard of much better songs from this talented composer and singer and truly a man of God. If you are looking for a nice SCC album you can buy "Speechless" or "Heaven in the Real World" Keep the candle burning, SCC!!
Good Sample of Steven.......2000-12-20
If you like 80's Christian music, you'll like this album. It's a good sample of Steven's early songs, with the ever popular My Turn Now and His Eyes. If you're an avid SSC fan you should definitly buy this album. It certainly demonstrates an early era of Stevens career. Some of the best artists were better before they were popular, is that true with Steven? It's arguable, because his music has almost consistently been good with all albums. See for yourself.

Tuesday's Child - 3.5 stars.......2006-07-16
I got this disc after seeing her video for SONG FOR YOU. This is one of my favorite tracks with its great melody & simplistic vocals. I don't listen to the radio and it's hard to get any buzz or info about an artist such as Abenaa because her music isn't considered "mainstream".
Abenaa's music is hard to classify but if I had to compare this disc to one in recent memory, it'd be Rhiann Benson's. Abenaa isn't a powerhouse vocalist but she does have a pleasant voice that shines more on the tracks that are sparely produced with just her singing and a piano or guitar accompanying; on tracks that have a lot more going on musically, her voice tends to get drowned out.
The disc is really short - clocked in at less than an hour but each song is distinctly individual and will keep the listener interested. The tracks that stood out to me are:

This cd is Execellent. Each song will touch your mind and heart. She has written for Vanessa williams, a few songs on "the sweetest day", oddly, their voices are very similar. She has made a stunning masterpiece with this cd, perfect for those introspective days. File under Acoustic Soul

Put her into one category? It's very difficult to pigeon whole her and her music because its just so solid and so good, yet it defies a label. When you listen to her, think warm breezes, clear azure water and trees baring ripe fruit....she's that vivid!
Although, this Cd is a few years old, it is still worth the investment. You can clean to it, chill out with it, take long drives by it or simply soak in the hot tub and contemplate life.
