Album Description
Cybill Shepherd's first ever live CD release, recorded at the Cinegrill at the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in June of 2000. The act is a fusion of song and comedy from her thirty year rollercoaster of a career. Cybill is frank, funny and as bold as ever. It includes it all... the laughs, the tears, even cutlery against plates!

"Performing for an audience in the flesh is humbling, challenging, transformative and inspiring. To me, singing is like breathing - I just have to do it. And making people laugh... well, it's like quenching a fearsome thirst." - Cybill Shepherd

    4 out of 5 stars A hoot........2001-06-03

This recording follows one of Jason Graae's live cabaret acts from start to finish. There is enough fresh and outrageous humor to make this disc a real hoot. Mr. Graae possesses a voice of truly impressive range and clarity. I'm glad I got this CD, but I wonder how often I will give it a repeat spin. I know that when I've heard the funniest jokes more than two or three times, I begin to lose interest. I'm afraid the same might be true for this production. I will say this ----- if Jason Graae were ever to bring his act to the boondocks of upstate New York, based upon this recording, I would certainly make a serious effort to attend it.

    5 out of 5 stars A riot........2001-02-24

Jason Graae is one of the most hysterically funny performers in theatre today. The fact that he can sing makes for an attractive bonus in this album of songs he's mostly performed before, but the real reason that musical theatre fans have to own this is the endless stream of in-jokes that Graae supplies.

But even if you've never heard of Judy Kaye, Lillias White, or Andrea Marcovicci (and why not, I should ask), you should pick this up. Just as hysterical as the in-jokes are the ones that aren't going to go over anyone's head, such as an entirely off-key take on "The Wrong Note Rag" and his famous version of "Applause" featuring dead-on impersonations of Johnny Mathis, Tallulah Bankhead, and others. Graae's timing is impeccable, and his sensibility agreeably bitchy -- appropriate for the likely audience, in other words.

And yeah, he can sing too. Quite attractively at that, especially on the handful of soft numbers ("What More Can I Say", "Something That I Wanted You To Know", "It Would Have Been Wonderful"). But it's not those numbers that I'm going to be playing over and over again.

5 out of 5 stars Hurrah for Graae!.......2001-02-17

I think it's wonderful- lively, inside, campy, musical. Everything I want in a Live CD!

          5 out of 5 stars Cybill.....at long last Live!!.......2002-06-05

I have rated this CD 5 stars mainly because I'm a huge fan and I always enjoy her music. I have listened to all of her work over the years and feel that any true fan of her work will relish this CD, so please buy it. I do have to point out a personal "preference"(PUN...sorry)however and that is that I believe Cybill is at her very best when singing in lower keys and she absolutely kicks [rear] when she sings standards. The high notes she attempts occasionally seem shrill.
My main complaint throughout her career is that she never released an album of standards when Moolighting was at it's peak. Now that her voice has matured and is even better, at least to me, I still think if someone "in charge" of what she's doing lately was smart they would suggest this to her. She should still make an album of standards in the same vain (and keys) as "Blue Moon" and "I Told you I Love you Now Get Out!"
The only downside to this live show is the shameless plugging she does for everything in her career which brings her cash, it sounds a little like "me, me, me" after a while, but I love her and still thoroughly enjoyed this live CD as there are a few gems throughout the set, please check it out. Also check out the earlier CD "Vanilla", great stuff!

4 out of 5 stars Great voice finally being put to good use!.......2002-03-03

I have been a fan of Cybill's voice for a long time. Her previous albums have never really done her voice the justice that it deserves. Cybill's voice is very majestic, with an almost operatic quality. I feel her voice is best suited to ballads, which really allow her expressive voice to shine. She often goes for big-band bluesy numbers which I don't think are a great way to represent her voice. This live album is a nice way for Cybill to showcase both her voice and her comedy. The Cinegrill provides an intimate setting where Cybill and her band command the room.

Performances of songs about the menopause and "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" allow Cybill's natural humour to shine through. Cybill's voice is never better when singing "Talk Memphis To Me". A truly touching song about her native town and a real chance to show just how beautiful her voice can be.

Over 18 tracks this cd may not suit all tastes but for lovers of easy listening styles, eg Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler this collection is a must for your collection.

4 out of 5 stars Live @ Last on CD.......2002-02-14

For anyone who has missed Cybill's cabaret shows, myself being one of those people. This is a live CD taped @ The Cinegrill from a June 2000 show including some live commentary and cabaret to a piano backing.

Highlights have to be hearing live renditions of TALK MEMPHIS TO ME, THE PARTY'S OVER and most notable she finally covers the Al Jarreau theme song to her show, MOONLIGHTING. Also Cybill does magical interpretations of two new Janis Ian tracks: MEMPHIS & a very moving song SHE MUST BE BEAUTIFUL, both from Ian's 2000 CD 'God & the FBI'.
