Best of Judy Garland: 20th Century Masters [Original recording remastered]

If Judy Garland had been born in the '80s instead of the '20s, she'd have followed the usual path taken by today's teens on their way to stardom, if not exactly legend: she'd have been on Star Search; joined the new Mickey Mouse Club; gigged around Orlando, Florida; and then been drafted to lip-synch to Swedish-produced pop songs. Luckily for us, she came around at a time when genuine talent was not just discovered and then packaged, but was given material to work with that was worthy of it. Garland was still a teenager when she recorded some of the songs included on this collection, including a number of tunes by George and Ira Gershwin ("I Got Rhythm," "Embraceable You," "Swanee"), duets with Bing Crosby and Gene Kelly, and several immortal tunes from her films, including "Over the Rainbow," "On the Atchison, Topeka, and the Santa Fe," and "Meet Me in St. Louis." Her personal troubles came later, so everything on this set is bright and upbeat. --Daniel Durchholz --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

The young Judy Garland .......2006-06-09
Judy Garland was a singer of tremendous emotional power. In her latter years this was reenforced by the sense of her fragility. In the early years the singing is fresher and filled with hope. The songs she sings here are among the greatest in the world's songbook, including one that is for many the greatest song of all time, her signature song, 'Over the Rainbow'.
This is one of those songs it is possible to list to over and over again. 'Embraceable you' ' You made me love me' 'Swanee' are in the same category as great classics of song.
JUDY ROX! AND BELIEVE ME!.......2006-05-06
hey there
believe me... I could so see HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS playing during a morbid greusome horror movie scene..
TRUST ME!
OK.......2006-01-15
All about mail, recieve and the CD's status is very good and very OK.
True Classic.......2004-01-25
This album delivers Judy Garland in her early years (and early years ONLY). If you want the younger, crisper sound of Judy Garland, featuring primarily show tunes, then get this album.
I would have given this ablum 5 stars if it included more material (there was room for more songs) and if it included some of her great performances later in her career.
It is what it is. If you want a high quality recording of her early music, get this album. If you want the feel of her later performances on stage (as opposed to the sound room), then look for something else.

This is a fantastic CD! All of the songs are great. The one song that bothered me was Track 12. Where is Judy?! Its a pretty nice song and very funny. I listened to it over and over again I don't hear her anywhere. If anybody knows please e-mail me.
