Customer Reviews:
High Cost, Little Quality.......2007-06-07
This CD is such a disappointment! I sing with a traveling theater group and thought I could practice to this karaoke disc. Not a chance! The quality is poor-synthesized instruments & wrong notes and chords all over the place!Don't even get me started on the sample vocal tracks! I actually discarded this part of the pack as it was painfule to listen to. The vocals are horribly off key. Please, save your money. I know it's exciting to find this wonderful musical in a karaoke version but keep looking. Don't waste your cash on this one!!!
i'm 13, and i need help. (by the way, GO WICKED! luv it.).......2007-05-29
Hey ya'll.
i'm giving this 5 stars because i love wicked a lot (and it's not my top 1, but top 3.so i'm not biased) but i really need to know if the karaoke part is worth buying. i don't care about the instructional singers, just the music. i want to perform this, but plz tell me if it's worth the MUCHO money? thnx!
Don't waste your money.......2007-02-01
My daughter needed the karaoke version to perform one of the songs for a show at her school. This version is absolutely horrible. Neither one of us can even stand (or sit)to listen to this cd. What a terrible waste of good hard earned money. Everyone who has purchased this should receive their money back plus 10% and an apology for being subjected to hearing this. Shame on the people who produced this cd and are making money from it.
"well-sung, theatrical vocals..." What cast did they listen to!?.......2007-01-07
I bought this CD from the local Wal-Mart for a hefty sum. I was a little nervous, as I always am when I purchase something without listening to it first, but figured what the hey, it's Wicked, it CAN'T be bad. I really just wanted an alternate take on some of my favorite songs, since I can't afford to go see the musical in person yet.
I was wrong. I was very, very wrong. I realized I wasn't going to be getting the same level of performance as in the OCR release. But, after reading the reviews when I got home, I opened it. I popped it into my CD player, and my ears were immediately assaulted by their Gahlinda's warbling. Yes, Gah-linda. No other name fits so well. It's plain the group assembled to sing was trying, in part, to emulate the original cast's performance, and sadly, they failed miserably. Gah-linda's voice was off pitch and screetchy, frequently. Thinking perhaps I was merely comparing her unfairly to other performers, I played it for a friend, who all but begged me to turn it off. It was plain to us both that she was trying to sing far above her natural range. The other cast members, save their Fiyero, were decent. Their Elphaba was amateur good, and their Nessarose was surprisingly talented for the few moments time she got.
On to the music itself.
I have a reasonably high quality speaker system, yet the background music sounded like a midi file someone had made of the real music. Like something out of an old 16 bit game, or perhaps a talented teen trying to coax music out of an old keyboard. Thinking perhaps it WAS the sound system, I tried it in another media player. Same sound. Realizing that perhaps the guide CD might have simplified music apart from the karaoke CD itself, I swiftly switched to CD2. But wait. There was no CD2, because I had recieved two copies of CD1.
This was the final insult, for me. I contacted Stage-Stars and asked for my money back, explaining the variety of reasons I thought I deserved it. The woman I spoke with was polite and understanding, and, after getting my address, overnighted me a new copy of the title, shrink wrapped. It went immediately back to the store, and I got my money back.
On another note, on hearing the samples given on various sites of the CD2 music, I must conclude that it is the same quality on both CDs. In all honesty, you'd have more fun just setting the money on fire. Don't waste it on this purchase.
I could play it better myself on a kazoo.......2006-12-13
I bought this karaoke cd because I was told it was the only one available for the musical and even though I had heard it was bad I figured it couldn't be all THAT bad. I was wrong. It's so bad that it hurts the ears of anyone with an ear for music and can throw off even the best trained singer - even when watching the cd+g graphics. I don't know what solution to offer instead since it's the only karaoke track that I know of... but you may be better off just going without.

Too Good For the Average Man.......2006-11-20
What do you mean, you've never heard of Blossom Dearie? Shame on you!
Love Broadway? Love Jazz? Order this today. "Blossom Dearie: Soubrette" is my favorite of her many recordings. The songs collected here are not your usual Broadway fare. No, these tunes are character songs, novelty song ususally sung by the second female lead or soubrette.
The greatest Broadway composers are represented to great effect: Rodgers & Hart with "Too Good for the Average Man" and (especially) "To Keep My Love Alive," Porter's "Always True To You in My Fashion," Loesser's title tune from "Guys and Dolls," and two incomparable numbers from Schwartz and Dietz, "Confession" from "The Band Wagon," and the unforgettable "Rhode Island is Famous for You."
This is simply a joyous recording. It's hard, if not impossible, to listen to this recording without at least a smile on your face. This is one that should not be missed [I know I say that alot - but I mean it]. Order this, you be glad you did. And remember, I told you to.
Not flawless, but VERY good!.......2006-09-15
Ok, it is always a matter of taste. This may be not a typical B. Dearie album, wich means, you will not find a Jazz Combo. Those who are jazz buffs should start by somewhere else. But for those who enjoy traditional vocal Pop, will find these recordings very rewarding. The arrangements are a little contained, but very well designed by the master Russ Garcia, who respected the "light" voice of the performer, giving a non-obstructive orchestral dressing, in other words, lots of vibraphone and woodwinds. It sounds very nice. Plus, aside of the overrercorded songs like " Guys and Dolls", you will find some other tunes that are almost rare like Porter's "The Physician" and Rodger's "Too Good For..." . And even if you say "not her best" due to the bright of other recordings of her, it deserves at least four stars for its contents.
Not Blossom's best........2004-11-01
I believe this is the last of Blossom's Verve canon to be reissued, and you can see why they held on to it for so long. I had this on my wish list when it was only available as a Japanese import in the $30 range, and am so glad I waited to get it on ebay for $5. It's really not up to Blossom's usual impeccable standard. Blossom is always at her best in a jazz combo setting, but when working in the orchestral setting of Capital's MAY I COME IN?, she did a nice job. Of course, that was with Jack Marshall's excellent arrangements and a hip selection of songs. This reissue, unfortunately, suffers from some truly dreadful Russ Garcia arrangements that accentuate Blossom's penchant for coyness. Songs like "Love is the Reason," "To Keep My Love Alive," and "Confession" are irremediably marred by corny/tacky arrangements. (To hear what a great song the little known Schwartz-Dietz "Confession" really is, listen to Judy Holliday's version on TROUBLE IS A MAN). Blossom fares far better on more jazz-oriented arrangements like "The Gentleman is a Dope" and "Rhode Island is Famous for You," but those are very much in the minority. The only other thing that ameliorates the downside of this album is the fact that Blossom clearly chose songs that show some of Broadway's legendary lyricists at their wittiest. Lorenz Hart's "To Keep My Love Alive," Cole Porter's "The Physician," Dorothy Field's "Love is the Reason," Yip Harburg's "Napoleon," and Howard Dietz's aforesaid "Rhode Island" are full of sparkling with of the "they don't write songs like that anymore" variety. But, overall, this is strictly an album for Blossom completists only. The only song that is a must for Blossomphiles is "Rhode Island" and that's available on one of Verve's Blossom compilations where you get some really good stuff along with it.
From BlossomDearie.com.......2004-10-02
This has been a frequently requested album over the years. Favorite songs like "Rhode Island Is Famous For You", which is identified with Blossom more so than the broadway show it came from make it a real treat. From Verve Records to Daffodil Records it's always hard to pick a "best" album, Blossom Dearie is just so good!

Annoying arrangements.......2006-12-19
One of the greatest jazz singers, Sarah Vaughan, was also a great pop-singer, one of the best produced by the USA. However, although some interpretation's on this album are quite acceptable, and some of the material quite intriguing, the arrangements used by Hal Mooney's orchestra are at times quite IRRITATING (only a handful of songs is recorded with other orchestras).
Even when the emphasis is not on the strings, the music still sounds corny...
Just in order to be sure I'm not to strict (being a jazz fan) i gave this album more than one star.
Broadway music and Sarah Vaughan... what a combination !.......2000-12-21
Songstress Sarah Vaughan has the power to make magic with music using the most important instrument of all, her voice. With an amazing 3 octaves and more, Sassy, as she is fondly called, sings the best of Broadway music in her most inimitable style. Listen to one of the greatest female voices of the century belt, cry and whisper some of the most important songs from the musical theater stage and screen we have grown to love through the years.

Album Description
Broadway and Cabaret star Craig Rubano takes you on an exploration of partnership, featuring songs from Broadway, Movie Musicals and the Hit Parade. He is accompanied by a Trio and instrumental guest partners.
Customer Reviews:
A superb - if mellow - follow-up to his first album........2005-03-07
"Change Partners" is one of the most soothing albums I've ever bought and I bought it on the basis of Craig's first impeccable album, "Finishing the Act." While that album featured a lot of "known gems" with a few "unknowns", this album explores exactly the opposite. I doubt you'll have heard more than a few of these songs before. Even so, you'll love the introduction Craig Rubano gives them. His voice thunders when it needs to and soothes when appropriate, but throughout, he treats his material with utmost respect. This is a man who loves to sing and the variety of his song choices are delicious. Now and then some of the arrangements bordered on smaltzy in a "Kit Kat Klub" kind of way, but mostly the piano, bass, percussion trio provided an intimate feeling that was perfect for the material. Guest instrumentalists appear here and there for added flavor - an alto sax, a trombone, a clarinet - but they are never used to excess. On a few of the songs, I literally could not believe my ears at the range of this man. His baritone is absolutely pure but he also has a very high top on his range and he never hides vocal flaws with an overdone vibrato (a.k.a. Mandy Patinkin). If anything, and I'm surprised to hear myself say it, he reminds me of Anthony Warlow's perfectly trained baritone. Not that anyone can really surpass Warlow's voice, but Craig Rubano makes a legitimate claim to aspire there. If you want to hear what a great singer can do, give Craig Rubano a listen - you won't be disappointed.

Customer Reviews:
La Cage aux Folles.......2005-08-10
I am hosting a musical La Cage aux Folles night where my guests are invited to perform a song. This karaoke CD is perfect for my purpose - ten great songs followed by the same ten in music only.
The BEST of Karaoke Times!!.......2005-02-26
This is without a doubt the best karaoke version of a Broadway show I've ever heard!
I've purchased or listened to dozens of these types of CDs. The background tracks only versions are not interesting. My friends and I enjoy the Stage Stars recordings because their selections are more complete and the actors they use (while sometimes uneven) are terrific. And this is absolutely the best cast of actors and best choral work on any karaoke CD I've heard. The chorus sounds full and rich and the harmonies are GREAT. The tempos are perfect - just like the original cast, so very easy to sing along with. And the orchestrations are very good, if still a little too synthesized and overpowering. The leads are all wonderful! In particular, I'm a big fan of Miles Phillips. His solos as Georges are literally BETTER than either Broadway production and better than any recording I've ever heard (and I've heard em all)! It's worth buying this CD just to hear him sing Song On The Sand and Look Over There. The entire CD is worth just sitting back and listening to for pleasure. The fact that you get a second set of tracks to sing/rehearse/entertain with is almost a bonus! Great job, Stage Stars! Keep the quality coming!!

Another of Blossom's rare gems!.......2002-06-25
This is one of two Verve recordings that is currently unavailable domestically and as I said of the other one, it is truly a shame! This album contains some of Blossom's most whimsical observations on living and loving! Sure to bring a smile to your face from beginning to end, my favorite track is definitely 'Rhode Island Is Famous For You'. Other standout tracks are 'Confession', 'To Keep My Love Alive', and 'Always True To You In My Fashion'. As another reviewer has said on this website, Blossom should be "selling out huge venues at $100 a ticket", but is still under-appreciated by a world that should be singing her praises and demanding every recording at their local music store! I'm out making new fans every chance I get, Ms. Dearie!!
Blossom at her charming best!.......1999-10-13
Blossom really is at her most charming on this album from about 40 years ago. She was still doing some of this classicly witty stuff in live performance when I saw her last December in New York, as well she should. Highly recommended for her uniquely personal style. Blossom can be appreciated by anyone who wants to be entertained by a musical charmer for whom the concept of cabaret entertainment must have been invented. Please bring me more. Much more.
